November 2017
Dear Friend and Abolition Supporter,

The Coalition has had a good year and that success is due to all those who support this movement to
abolish the death penalty in Kentucky. Next year we celebrate our 30" year as a non-profit corporation in
Kentucky. As we prepare for that, we are closer than ever to achieving our goal.

| am happy to announce that Rep. Chad McCoy from Bardstown has agreed to sponsor a bill to abolish
the death penalty in the House of Representatives when the General Assembly convenes in J anuary
2018. Last year’s bill had 18 co-sponsors. With your help we hope to add more names to that list in 2018.

Your help is essential for success and | propose two concrete ways for you to have a significant impact
on efforts to abolish the death penalty in our Commonwealth.

First of all, itis important that you raise your voice and contact your State Representative when you
receive this letter. Tell your State Representative that Rep. McCoy will be sponsoring a bill to abolish the
death penalty and ask him or her to co-sponsor that bill and support it by voting for it at every opportunity.
The easiest way to do this is by calling 1.800.372.7181. You will speak to a staff person who will deliver
your message directly to your State Representative.

Another important way to have an impact on this effort is to use the enclosed envelope to make a
personal contribution to the Coalition so we can continue our constant effort to educate Kentuckians
about this failed policy and invite those who agree with us to join in our work.

Last year we spread our abolition message by staffing a booth at the State Fair in Louisville, another at
Hillbilly Days in Pikeville and another at the Mountain Heritage Festival in Whitesburg. We added the
names of more than 300 new supporters to our advocacy list. And we hope to do more in 2018.

We also work with our friends at the Kentucky ACLU to bring former death row inmates into the state to
tell their stories about being innocent, yet condemned to death. After their presentations we always have
new supporters’ names to add to our list. More Witness to Innocence tours are planned for 2018.

Efforts like those above, which we plan to expand during 2018, do cost money. Your past support
enabled us to educate many Kentuckians who have now signed up as supporters. With your continued
support we can do even more. As we approach our 30th anniversary, please demonstrate your continued
enthusiasm and invest in a future without the death penalty in Kentucky with a generous contribution.

These two simple actions - making one phone call and writing one check - are quite powerful actions that
have great impact on our future success. Working together we will end the death penalty in Kentucky.

Sincerely,

or, Aeahesty

Rev. Patrick Delahanty,
Chair
