Dear Father Delahanty,

lam writing to apply for the position of Director of Public Education, Advocacy and Outreach with
The Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. As my resume states, I have worked for the
past five years in the non-profit sector, have ample professional experience in social justice and
community education, and hold a Bachelors degree in Cultural Anthropology. As such, I am the
ideal candidate for this position.

As the Lead Case Manager with the African Community Center (ACC), it was my duty to support
refugee newcomers as they began their new lives in the United States. My responsibilities consisted
of finding housing, job placement, English education, financial literacy, budgeting, producing
documentation, and advocating for refugee rights within government programs, medical agencies,
and the greater Denver community. As a cultural ambassador, it was my duty to connect our refugee
families with volunteers and to promote greater awareness of the refugee program. As a manager, it
was also my duty to hire, train, and supervise the case-management team.

ACC’s vision included incorporating refugees, staff, volunteers, and the community into the daily
operations of the organization. As part of that process, I sat on their Leadership Board, which built a
five-year strategic vision to increase organizational capacity, both programmatically and fiscally. In
addition, in my previous position, with Junior Achievement, I recruited and managed over 700
volunteers and implemented educational programs in six school districts. As such, I feel I am highly
qualified for this position.

Professionally, it is my goal to advance my career in human rights. Personally, I firmly oppose the
death penalty. Consequently, I fundamentally believe I would be and excellent asset to your team. I
am eager to join KCADP and its commitment to abolish the death penalty in Kentucky.

Please consider me for the position of Director of Public Education, Advocacy and Outreach. I am
happy to interview at your convenience. Please feel free to contact me at anytime by phone or

email. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Erin Herbert
