Gov. Paul Patton
700 Capital Ave.
Suite 100

Frankfort, KY 40601

Dear Governor Patton:

During this holy season of Christmas, we often hear the refrain of “Peace on Earth — and
Good Will to Men.” At a time when the threats of unrest seem to occupy the minds of
many, we encourage you to reflect on how we in Kentucky can forge peaceful solutions
to serve the cause of justice.

As you know, the case of Kevin Stanford is in your hands. In the past you have
supported a ban on the execution of juveniles and we concur with you on that issue.
Kevin’s story is very tragic. This will not excuse his crime or any crime, but neither will
putting him to death be a just deed on the part of our government.

There is a saying — “if we want peace we must work for justice.” While Ben Chandler is
pressing for a death warrant — we are pressing for solution that is more humane. Please
grant Kevin Stanford a decision that will serve peace by commuting his sentence.

Sincerely,

Deacon Charlie and Fran Brown
