Hello, I'm Pat Dela Hanti.
I chair the Kentucky Coalition to abolish the death penalty and usually on Thursdays we
have a video made by one of our supporters.
But today, because of what happened in Nebraska on Wednesday, I wanted to make sure everyone
knew that another state and its lawmakers have abolished the death penalty.
It wasn't easy there.
They had to override the governor's veto and they did with overwhelming support from
a bipartisan group of lawmakers.
We can do that in Kentucky.
We have a bipartisan group of lawmakers, men and women in both chambers, the Senate and
the House willing to sponsor and co-sponsor legislation.
They need the support of others in their chambers and that's where we come in.
We must contact our legislators and urge them to follow the lead of Nebraska and other
states that have recently abolished the death penalty and make Kentucky death penalty
free.
It will be better for all of us.
We will no longer risk executing the innocent.
We will no longer waste taxpayer dollars on a system that promises but fails to deliver
justice.
I want to invite everyone who sees this to become part of our growing movement.
To sign up on our web page or at the top of a Facebook page and working together, we
can abolish the death penalty in Kentucky.
Thank you for listening.
