CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF LEXINGTON

THE CATHOLIC CENTER

Office of the Bishop

October 29, 2010

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As Catholics and U.S. citizens, we have the obligation to be faithful to our Church’s teachings and to our duty to promote
the common good. As we Bishops urged in our 2007 document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, “Every
person and association has a right and a duty to participate actively in shaping society and to promote the well-being of
all, especially the poor and vulnerable.” (#47)

On behalf of the Catholic Conference of Kentucky, | encourage you to take advantage of an opportunity to be a faithful
citizen. In preparation for the 2011 legislative session, the Catholic Conference of Kentucky is organizing 17 regional
legislative advocacy meetings in the four dioceses of the Commonwealth. Our diocese will host eight of these “Catholics
@ the Capitol: Faithful Citizenship” gatherings.

Catholics @ the Capitol legislative caucuses provide a means for the Catholic community to voice our position on key
issues likely to be discussed in the upcoming Kentucky General Assembly, as well as explain the Catholic social teaching
underlying those positions. The meetings also allow the Catholic faithful to build relationships with their elected state
representatives close to home, and to act on their faith in the arena of legislative advocacy.

Catholics @ the Capitol: Faithful Citizenship gatherings will be hosted by these parishes:

Frankfort: Good Shepherd, Sunday, November 7, 12:00-2:30 p.m.

Lexington: Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary, Monday, November 8, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Morehead: Jesus Our Savior, Saturday, November 13, 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.

Lexington: Sts. Peter and Paul School, Barr Street, Saturday, November 20, 9:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
Campton: Good Shepherd, Saturday, December 4, 10:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

Prestonsburg: St. Martha, Saturday, December 11, 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Ashland: Holy Family, Tuesday, December 14, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

London: St. William, Saturday, January 8, 2011, 10:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

Please make every effort to participate in the meeting nearest you and encourage other Catholics from your area to do
the same. Together we can act for the common good and help to shape a society in our Commonwealth that is more
respectful of the life, dignity, and rights of the human person.

| look forward to seeing you at Catholics@ the Capitol: Faithful Citizenship.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

+ Bold Wein
