County fair, county fair,
Everybody in town’ll be there
So come on, hey we're goin’ down there
— County Fair by Bruce Springsteen (a death penalty abolitionist)

Aug. 18-28, 2011, KCADP has rented booth 341 in the South Wing Exhibition Hall during the Kentucky State
Fair and we need your help. We will provide volunteers a pass valued at $18.00 that includes the entry fee
and the cost of parking (or if that doesn’t work out we will reimburse you $18 for admission and parking).

All you need to do is work for three short hours of the 132 hours our booth is open. Simple, right?

And the rest of the day you can go smell the animals. Or ride the rides, win a stuffed animal, see a horse
show, attend a free concert. Oh, and did we mention the delicious grilled pork chops, sweet roasted corn,
hamburgers stuffed between donuts, and all the cotton candy you ever wanted?

HOW DO | SIGN UP FOR THIS GREAT DEAL?

The easiest way to sign up is type this link into your web browser— http://tinyurl.com/Suaaoqw— and select
the day and time you want to help. Include your name, phone number, email address, and an address to mail
your FREE admission and parking pass. If you have problems filling in the spreadsheet, please email us at
staff@ kcadp.org and a staff person will get back to you as soon as possible.

Another way to sign up is to call us at 502-636-1330 and staff will help you select a day and time to help.

You may sign up for more than one day or for more than one 3 hr shift on the same day!!!

WHAT WILL | BE DOING THERE? AND WHO WILL HELP ME?

Work at the booth means meeting and talking to State Fair visitors from Kentucky's 120 counties, a great op-
portunity to spread our message about abolition. After you sign up we will provide more information about that
message so you feel comfortable in the booth. There will always be a staff member present to answer any
questions about the use of the death penalty in Kentucky and why we wantit abolished. YOU DO NOT HAVE
TO BE A DEATH PENALTY EXPERT TO HELP IN THIS BOOTH.

The only qualification you need is your heart-felt opposition to using the death penalty. You can speak your
heart to booth visitors and staff will be ready to help answer any question booth visitors have.

Visitors will have the opportunity to sign a postcard opposing the use of the death penalty in Kentucky which
we will later mail to the Governor. We will also urge people to sign a petition for the Governor and we will in-
vite visitors to join and become active members of the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

Thanks for your help: and the sooner you sign up the better. It will help us plan
a great state fair event.

WeAre Fortunate

cadp can go to the Kentucky State Fair this year and reach out to visitors from Kentucky’s 120 counties because
of a generous grant from the Death Penalty Mobilization Fund of the Tides Foundation. And later this year this
same grant is helping KCADP sponsor an advocacy training program for clergy and other pastoral leaders in No-
vember at two sites: Louisville and Berea. And this grant will also defray costs associated with bringing members
of Witness to Innocence to five or more college campuses throughout Kentucky during this year.

But this generous grant is limited and it does not pay for the ongoing expenses related to having a full-time director of advocacy
and education and a part-time position for an assistant who schedules these events, administers the office, answers the email and
picks up the phone when you call. Please use the envelope enclosed to make your own generous donation and invest in the Kentucky
Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty as we draw nearer and nearer to the day our goal is accomplished. At his last meeting with
staff, only 9 days before he died, while telling us about his impending death, Carl Wedekind lamented that he would not see the day
Kentucky abolished the death penalty. Carl is no longer here. But he left a legacy of generosity and gave his time, talent, and treasure
to ending the use of the death penalty. His example is one we must follow if the goal is to be reached. Thank you for your gifts of
time, talent and treasure.
