ORGANIZER

Job Title: Statewide Community Organizer (SCO)

Position Type: Full-time

Reports To: KCADP Project Advisory Committee (PAC)

Compensation: $35,000. This_position isis—grant funded for one year with the potential for
renewal.

Start Date: April 1 or as soon thereafter as the appropriate applicant is determined.

Position Description

KCADP seeks to abolish the death penalty in Kentucky through a multi-facted campaign that includes
education, grassroots organizing, and media and advocacy work. KCADP uses a variety of tactical and_
strategic organizing approaches and tools, including +public educational forums, grassroots leadership
trainings, rallies, andmedierelatiens, coalition building, among -and-others. In all things, KCADP puts an
emphasis on relationship building. At the direction of the PAC, the SCO will develop and implement eea
strategic ndtet- statewide grassroots organizing planeampaign, with a focus on 4#targeted legislative
districts. Theis eampaignis-focused of the work will be-en extreaehte-engaging targeted individuals and
communitiesparties: members of faith groups, law enforcement, conservatives, the families of murder
victims-familymembers, and persons and communities of color. The goal is to maintain and strengthen
relationships with a variety of stakeholders and allies empowered to act locally in carrying out the
KCADP strategic campaign -plan. Essential duties and responsibilities of the organizer will be to:

e Recruit, activate, empower, train and inform supporters across the state, with an emphasis on
key strategic areas - -to take effective action to end capital punishment in Kentucky

¢ BuildBeveleping relationships with all key grassroots and “grasstops” key-constituencies,
including -s#eh-as-the families of murder victims, law enforcement, and political and
community leaders, including conservatives; and Jaw-makers-as-svellas-strengthening current.
working relationships with both traditional and etherinterest groups and identifying-
nontraditional partners

e As amember of the campaign’s media team, assist with the creation of a media plan, Develep

¢ create and maintain Greatisg-good relationships with journalists and news organizations, -end
serve as a campaign spokesperson as required by the media plan, and assist with the
development of previding-quetes-and-media content, including Op-Eds.

¢ Prepare written materials (fliers, brochures) to support grassroots campaigns and assist in
compiling KCADP eNewsletter and ABOLITION NOW!

e Ensure thatMaintain the KCADP blog, social networking sites, and regular email
communications with supporters are effectively and strategically implemented

¢ Work in conjunction with the PAC to develop and implementexeette an effective advocacy
jegislative- program to support the mission of KCADP

¢ Other duties as assigned

Qualifications /Requirements

° BABS degree
¢ Minimum of two years organizing or other relevant experience that shows a track record of
success and results
e Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; experience as a public spokesperson

and advocate a plus

e Experience working with a-high!ydiverse constituencies, particularly conservatives and
evangelicals

¢ Ability to coordinate a fast-paced environment, to manage several projects simultaneously.
and to adjust to frequently changing demands Must be-ablete-travel and ‘flexible

e Excellent leadership and decision making skills to facilitate communication and collaboration

¢ Ability to work independently while staying regularly connected to the PAC

e PC literacy including electronic communications, desktop publishing programs;-experience itt
producing and-p: tin e-p pointp: tations: comfort and experience with online
organizing and website maintenance is ideal

¢ Legislative experience a plus

. Must be able to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekend as necessary

e Direct or personal experience with the criminal justice system, Jaw enforcement, or murder
victims family members a plus.
¢ BA/BS degree is a plus
