Co-Director Update- Russell Allen

Overview 8-2 through 8-13

Main Overview: You will notice an overall theme in this report focused around the Frank
Bumgartner UNC report. This report is extremely important and has been a bit of a
breakthrough on providing updated data and fresh narratives. It has also fortified strong existing
narratives on KY death penalty issues. Also another note, co-directors are wrapping up work on
the 8AP grant. This is not listed in the update but has taken a moderate amount of time. .

Coalition Building

Overview: Over the past two weeks there has not been a ton of activity here. Will be able to
report on meetings with NAMI Lex and Laura Schook on the next report as they will happen
later this week. | am pursuing a potential partner level relationship with a group of pastors in the
central Kentucky area. After an initial meeting with them, they would like to see some of the data
we are working on. Mentioning some of the preliminary narratives to them and they are
potentially interested in making DP abolition a tenet of their work. These pastors are well
resourced and connected within the state. This connection could help us reach other
denominations and communities in KY.

Advocacy/Communications
Overview:

We are currently going through a paired down social media posting period. We will be posting
current and/or relevant DP stories in KY and support of other state level DP movements until a
report the co-directors have been working on with UNC’s Frank Bumgartner is completed. This
report is in its draft stages and will provide multiple narrative paths that we will utilize moving
forward.

KCADP Co-directors are planning for two public events over the next quarter. One of which was
originally reported as taking place on September 15th. It will still take place in September but
the date may be pushed by a week or so to accommodate the completion of the report. The
October event is still on track for its original date of October 10th. Additional information will be
provided on the September 15th event. National and local level media hits will be coordinated
around these events.

Education/Outreach

Overview: Co-directors are still developing educational materials and programming. Co-directors
received initial data from Professor Frank Bumgartner of UNC-Chapel Hill. This data set is
incomplete but extremely meaty. Co-directors are working with Frank and other partners to
identify victims in a handful of cases. Once this process is complete a report will be circulated
and is sure to attract state level and national level media attention. Co-directors anticipate this
data is ready by mid to late September.

Co-directors are developing a small live event to happen in the next couple of weeks. The event
will be focused on basic abolition education
