Lobbying Your Representatives

The Stop Killing Kids Rally is only a part of a successful campaign to pass HB 180 and SB 15. An
equally important task is for each individual to contact State Representatives and State Senators
and ask them to co-sponsor and vote YES for HB 180 and SB 15.

Finding Your Representatives

State Senator: State Senators have offices on the 2nd floor of the Capitol Annex building. To visit, go to the
Senate reception area on the second floor of the Capitol Annex. Give your name and ask to see your sena-
tor. If your Senator is not available, ask to speak to an assistant and go to that office. Make sure the assis-
tant gets your name and address. Write a message that makes it clear to the Senator that you a) support pas-
sage of SB 15; b) that you want him/her to co-sponsor SB 15; and c) that you want him/her to urge Senator
Judiciary Chairman, Robert Stivers, to give SB 15 a hearing at the next udiciary Committee meeting. Attach
your message to one of the fact sheets about the bill and give it to the assistant.

State Representative: State Representatives have offices on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Capitol Annex. To
visit, you must get a pass from the Receptionist. If your Representative is not available, you can leave a mes-
sage with the Receptionist. The message is similar to the one for your Senator: a) you express support for HB
180; b) ask him/her to co-sponsor HB 180; and c) urge him/her to ask House J udiciary Chairman, Gross Lind-
say to give HB 180 a hearing at the next) udiciary Committee meeting. Attach your message to a fact sheet
about the bill and leave it with the receptionist.

Senate and House Leadership

It is important to contact members of the General Assembly who are the leaders and, therefore, very power-
ful. They can make a bill move or cause it to die. They need to hear from you in one of the following ways: a
personal visit; a message left if they are not available; or a phone call to the message line, 1-800-372-7181.
