REP. MILWARD DEDMAN
Kaye and Pat met with him in session 05 at his office. He is a realtor from Harrodsburg;
family has ties/ownership to Beaumont Inn. Has kids interested in horses, according to
his Google search. As a new legislator, he has been “talked to” by a veteran lawmaker by
saying things like he “won’t commit to any bill until I see it because you never know
what has been added to it.” He neither agrees nor disagrees with us and hasn’t given dp
much thought. Lonnie Napier said later that he could get him to sign the videotaping bill.
SEN. KENNETH WINTERS (Murray)
Pat and Carl met with him on 2/2/05 at his Ffort office. He is the former president at
Campbellsville and Morehead colleges. Seems logical and unbiased; might end up with
us. Key person to contact him: current pres of Cville University.
SEN. CARROLL GIBSON (Leitchfield)
Pat, Bert and I met with him in his Ffort office in Feb. He is a retired circuit court clerk.
Made several anti-death statements including there is no religious basis for backing dp.
Could/would back juvenile & is supportive of HB 242 — videotaping.
REP. JIM CARR (Hopkinsville)
Pat, Bert and I me w/ him Feb. at his office. Former chemical salesperson who is familiar
with the Logan region. Pro-life, pro-gun and spoke many times of forefathers. Is very
approachable; said he hasn’t given a lot of thought to subject but wanted a fact sheet on
HB 242. Said he has to face constituents and have prepared arguments when he backs
these type of bills. Will send him fact sheet.
RAND—Bert’s legislator. Could back HB 242 but is unsupportive of other dp bills.
SEN. JULIAN CARROLL (Frankfort)
Pat and Ben Griffith met with the former governor on April 13 at his Ffort law office. He
had told me earlier how he was for the dp since his family member had been shot and left
for dead. He was almost indicted by prosecutors during his tenure so he is willing to back
legislation that keeps them in check. He seemed to warm to smaller bills.
REP. TERRY SHELTON (Magnolia)
Ed Bohlander and I met with him at his office in June 05. He is a former county judge
exec and thinks most crimes are related to drugs. Doesn’t think jail is for reform. Never
leaned towards our mission but warmed to video taping bill. Likes Lonnie Napier.
