CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF LEXINGTON

THE CATHOLIC CENTER

Office of the Bishop

October 29, 2010

Greetings to My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As Catholics and U.S. citizens, we have the obligation to be faithful to our Church’s teachings and to our duty to promote
the common good. As we Bishops urged in our 2007 document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, “Every
person and association has a right and a duty to participate actively in shaping society and to promote the well-being of
all, especially the poor and vulnerable.” (#47)

We have a special opportunity to come together and work for justice here in our diocese. In preparation for the 2011
legislative session, the Catholic Conference of Kentucky is organizing 17 regional legislative advocacy meetings in the
four dioceses of the Commonwealth. Our diocese will host eight of these “Catholics @ the Capitol: Faithful Citizenship”
gatherings.

Catholics @ the Capitol legislative caucuses provide a means for the Catholic community to voice our position on key
issues likely to be discussed in the upcoming Kentucky General Assembly, as well as explain the Catholic social teaching
underlying those positions. The meetings also allow the Catholic faithful to build relationships with their elected state
representatives close to home.

lam writing now to express my hope that you will work to promote Catholics @ the Capitol in your parish communities,
and will participate in this effort yourselves. Catholics @ the Capitol: Faithful Citizenship gatherings will be hosted by
these parishes:

Frankfort: Good Shepherd, Sunday, November 7, 12:00-2:30 p.m.

Lexington: Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary, Monday, November 8, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Morehead: Jesus Our Savior, Saturday, November 13, 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.

Lexington: Sts. Peter and Paul School, Barr Street, Saturday, November 20, 9:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
Campton: Good Shepherd, Saturday, December 4, 10:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

London: St. William, Saturday, January 8, 2011, 10:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

| join my fellow bishops from around the country in calling Catholics to consider their role as faithful citizens. Thank you
for helping your parishioners act on their faith in the arena of legislative advocacy.

| look forward to seeing you and members of your parish community at Catholics@ the Capitol: Faithful Citizenship.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

4 Kalb Losin
