KCADP Board Meeting
Sept 9, 2019

Present: Pat Delahanty, Aaron Bentley, Ben Griffith, Kaye Gallagher, and Mike Von Allman.
Regrets from Dawn Jenkins, Mark Meade, and Kate Mudd.

We met via Zoom. As it happened, no one joined with the video feed. Aaron called the meeting
to order at 6:35. ( FYI-The phone connection provided very clear audio.)

1) Minutes from June were tabled for approval until our next meeting. There are some small
spelling and grammatical errors to correct. We weren’t prepared to do that at this time.

2) Treasurer’s Report was given by Kaye. Relatively quiet period of activity. Some additional
donations will show up on the next report. We ended August with a balance of $65,061.16 so
with those additional donations we should end up fiscal year at a relatively healthy place.

3). State Fair. Pat reported we received approximately 250 quality sign ups for what feels to be
a successful fair. As we go forward to next year, Pat has expressed he will not be the organizer
or serve so many booth hours if we do the fair again. The deposit for the booth isn’t due until
June 2020, so we have time to consider whether we are able or willing to do the booth again.

4) Witness Tours. Pat reported on some interest from Covington and Berea on hosting an
event. Also, we have begun to develop some more Kentucky innocence speakers besides Mike.
Recently Pat, Aaron, and Mike met with Jeff Clarke. Jeff was accused of murder in Meade
County and twice threatened with the death penalty, only to finally be exonerated of any
connection to the murder. Aaron reported they find his story compelling. Jeff is not confident
about his public speaking ability but is willing to learn. There is an on-going civil case for Jeff
and Aaron will be helping Jeff to seek approval from his lawyer for participation in the tour.

Note there is a new direction here for the tour. We are turning toward local Kentucky stories of
innocence. This will not only save on the expense of the tours, but will hopefully engage
Kentuckians with our own state stories. We plan to pay speakers a daily honorarium and
expenses.

5) Upcoming 2020 Session. Bills will be filed in both the house and senate. Senator Julie Rocky
Adams (in Senate Republican leadership) and Representative Chad McCoy will be the
Republican sponsors.

6) Don Vish. Pat has met with Don recently. Don is preparing to file a brief challenging the
constitutionality of the death penalty in the Kentucky Supreme Court. There is a strong
statistical legal argument for this case. Pat was bringing this development to our attention.
Stay tuned for further developments.
7) 30" Anniversary. At this time the Board will table the idea for a big public event to celebrate
our 30" year of existence. We have other ways to expend our energy at this time. We are open
to some “celebration” in the future when there is the time and energy.

8) The next meeting will be held December 9 at 6:30pm. Stay tuned on place. There is a
possibility that we will have Jeff Clarke present his story to us in Frankfort at that time.
Meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.

(And please read the entire meeting notice from Aaron about the meeting place and agenda.
You might avoid driving to Waters With Blessing from Frankfort like | did where | sat in my car

on speakerphone to take these notes : ).

Respectfully submitted, Ben Griffith, Secretary
