ABOLITION
NOW! next big step
May 1, 2008
Dear KCADP Supporter,
We need your help!
As you may have already read in our recent newsletter, the Coalition’s Board members agreed at the January
meeting to take the next big step in our effort to abolish the death penalty in Kentucky. The recent decision by the
United States Supreme Court, declaring that lethal injection as practiced in the Commonwealth is constitutional,
serves as a reminder that we will find little solace in court decisions and will have to repeal our death penalty law if
we hope to end this barbaric practice in Kentucky.
Enclosed with this letter is a case statement outlining the Board's proposal and explaining why this is an op-
portune time to press our case and achieve success.
This success depends on each member of KCADP renewing his or her commitment to working on this issue
and contributing financially to the work of the organization.
The Board is proposing a three-year plan with a budget of $240,000 to be raised in pledges from people like
yourself. Each Board member has already made a generous three-year pledge, collectively totaling $24,000, one-
tenth of the overall goal.
KCADP will use this money to build on our past legislative and organizing successes by hiring a full-time
person dedicated to the issue who has the skills necessary to increase our membership, maintain contact with our
organizational partners, educate Kentucky’ citizens about the failure of this public policy to address violent crime
justly, and increase the volume of our voice in the legislative halls of Frankfort.
This cannot happen without your help. Please take some time to consider a generous pledge of your own. We
have enclosed an envelope which includes a list of suggested pledges. We know that each supporter’ s financial
situation is unique and that you will do your best to help. To begin searching for just the right person to lead this
effort, we need to know if we will have enough money for the project. If you can, please let us know how much
you will pledge by returning the enclosed envelope before J une 15.
If you have Internet access, you can visit our website — www.kcadp.org — and use your credit card to send
your donation through the secure PayPal service. Some supporters already donate monthly through this method.
We also accept stock donations. Contact Kaye Gallagher at 502-636-1330 or kcadp@earthlink.net to learn
about making a donation of this type.
If you know of others who might wish to help us financially and who would be open to a visit from a Board
member, please include their names and contact information when you send in your pledge. This is deeply appreci-
ated.
If you have any questions, please contact the office and we will make every effort to answer them promptly.
Thank you so much for your past support. Together, we can take the next big step and end the killing of others by
our State.
Sincerely yours,
Chick Aelehaity,
