Dear Representative,

We ask that you vote “YES” on Floor Amendment to
House Bill 610. This amendment will abolish the death
penalty in Kentucky.

This amendment should be adopted because:

¢ Kentucky now has “life without the possibility of
parole” and Kentuckians are fully protected against
killers without the death penalty.

* 62% of all death penalty convictions in Kentucky since
1976 have been reversed.

* Death penalty convictions come from less than one-
third of Kentucky’s counties.

¢ — Litigating death penalty convictions is prohibitively
expensive.

e There is no credible evidence that the death penalty
deters violence more than “life without possibility of
parole”.

* Many victims’ families have organized to oppose the
death penalty.

We know violence begets violence. State-sanctioned
execution sends the wrong message to our children.

Thank you for your YES vote for Floor Amendment

Sincerely,

Carl Wedekind Rev. Patrick Delahanty
