Mount St. Mary Activity
An intern has been working on a major project (120hrs for credit) on improving CMN’s use of social
media as a non-profit organization. The project is due for completion early in December. There is also
student interest in volunteering on death penalty repeal in Maryland. As a member of the Board on MD
CASE (Maryland Citizens Against State Executions) | know the state coalition is interested in having
students help with the Lobby Days in Annapolis after the DP repeal bill is entered into the docket in the
MD legislature next session (sometime in the mid-January to early February timeframe.
The new book, Where Justice and Mercy Meet: Catholic Opposition to the Death Penalty is to be
published in early February. A flyer was distributed by Liturgical Press’ marketing team. We will be
edistributing the flyer to attendees at all our conferences/programs. Cathy Jarboe has been the CMN
contact with Liturgical Press’ marketing team. All royalties will go to CMN/
Maryland and Pennsylvania Efforts for 2013
In Maryland Vicki will continue the work she has been doing for over a decade in her daughter
Shannon’s memory. Shannon was born, raised and educated in this state. The bill is to be entered
(again!) this coming legislative session. It will be the last session with Gov. Martin O’Malley in office ( he
is finishing his last full year of his second term) and he is a strong supporter for repeal. Please keep us
in your prayers that the 2013 strategy for repeal, supported by many religious groups and other
organizations/coalitions, will be a success.
Vicki is continuing her work serving on the PA Advisory Committee on Punishment, serving on the
subcommittee that is reviewing the effects of the DP on murder victims’ family members, as well as the
families of the executed. The subcommittee report is due to the state legislature in the Fall of 2013.
Statewide data on the availability of support services, their cost and sufficiency for victims of the death
