Dear Dr.Friedlander:

The North Side Groupe of the Selfhelp,Chicago Chapter
has authorized me to express the sentiments of the
membership on the occasion of your leaving Chicago.

It is certainly with the deepest regret that we have
to resign ourselves to the fact that we shall have
to get along without your exceptional leadership and
guidance.

Our work would not heve been possible without the

understanding and considerate advise, which you cont-
ributed at all times.

Notwithstanding our regret at losing you for the time
being,we wish to congratulate you on your new assig-
nement, which will doubtlessly bring to you success
and satisfaction.

Please accept our sincerest wishes for you and your
wife, and the expression of our deepest gratitude.

In closing may we be allowed to hope that this is
not "farewell" but "Auf Wiedersehen".

Very sincerely yours,

Jemt © fyloymach,

Dear Dr.F riedlander:

I am a little ashamed for not having answered your
card of last November, but knowing your kind nature
I hope that you will understand that the reason
was not that I have forgotten you.

The fact is that besides having been extremely busy
‘helping my-husband in his office I had quite a bit
of trouble through sickness in the last few months.
First my husband had a bad attack of sore throat
which made it necessary for him to go away for three
weeks, while I had to take care of the office, and
later I myself had to have an operation which kept
me almost six weeks out of my regular routine.

Now everything is going along quite nicely again

so that I can catch up on my obligations.

First let me congratulate on your splendid success
in your present position. We all feel that you really
earned it and wish you lots more of it.On the other
hand we regret that all this is our loss,as we will
have to miss you as our esteemed leader so much
longer.

I assume that you are being informed of conditions
at the "SELFHELP" here in Chicago and that I cannot
tell you anything of importence. Our group¢ has

gone along nicely with its normal duties, there have
been no extraordinary cases and after our next
meeting we will start summer vacation.

Since you always have been very see interested in
our personal welfare I am happy to tell you that

we are getting along very well.My Latatal) business
has developed very nicely and we have reason to bel-
ieve that it will go on doing so.

Our boy,who went into. the Army last July is still

in the country at Aberdeen Proving Grounds,Md.

He has a very interesting assignement with the
Ordnance Research Center and likes it very much.

Eva is studying quite hard and will be a senior
next month. She is majoring in Sociology.

I hope that I have made up for the long delay and
that I rin lat shall hear the best from you.

With kindest regards for you and Mrs.Frielander

I am,

Geet ERE. or ae a Orr ©; Merheth .

Very cordially yours,

Dear Dr.Friedlander:

I am almost ashamed for not having written to you for such
a long time but I sincerely hope that you will understand
that our daily life with its constant obligations keeps us
from many pleasant duties we should and would like to do.
There is so little time left outside of our work and since
we are not getting younger we just drift on neglecting most
of our social amenities.

I feel all the more guilty today since I am going to ask a
very great favor of you relying on your magnanimity and
hoping that you will be able to help.

My niece Miss Lilly Sachs who is going to graduate from
Roosevelt College next June has applied for admission at
the University of California at Berkeley to work for her
Masters degree in Psychology with minors in Education.
Berkeley has already transcript of her college grades and
credits as well as letters of recommendation.

She has majoreé in Psychology with minors in Education and
Mathematics attending school on part scholarship and has

been student assistant in Psychology Department for one

year and assistant in Psychometrist counseling and testing
center for one year.

At present she is assisting Dr.Erika Fromm, school psychologist
at Francis Parker School while student teaching at that
school.

Lily is mainly interested in the field of guidance, counseling
and testing as her future work.

In view of the present overcrowding of all schools especial-
ly those with a reputation and scholastic standing as
Berkeley and the difficulty of out of state applicants to
get accepted,I would be extremely grateful if you could use
your good services to help Lily in this respect.

I assure you that your efforts will be used for a very worthy
person as Lilly is not only intellectually and scholastically
outstanding but a very dear and sweet girl besides.

I need not assure you again of our gratitude for your kind
assistance.

Adding a few words about our own circumstances it may inter—
est you that both our children are married.

Owing to the pressure of work I was obliged to resign as
chairman of the North Side Group of selfhelp but I continue

my connection with the organization as treasurer of the
Chicago Gapter.

Hoping that you,Mrs.Friedlander and your children are in
the best of health,I remain with kindest regards from
Mr.Monasch and myself

Very sincerely yours,
Jams C Monesch
