Dear Rose,
Justicia is a genus of Acanthaceae, and this was my first
"thought" when I read about the lake below. The cliff-
hanging reptiles above made their appearance in the Jurassic,
and this period word, too, awakened a professicnal association.
Am I fossilized in my routines? 1 hope not. For many things, beside %hy
the danestic laws of Massachusetts and New York--I am admitted to
poth Bars--and the international norms of collision--I am rather
lactive in US - BEC problems--occupy my mind, for instance just now,
wether Paul should follow his genius or bow to econanics. You know
my answer without telling. Money pays interest in prestige. It does |
not yield honor and respsct. Those incapable of distincticn don't
appreciate the difference; they pay respects, grant honors--
to money. Quite obviously there is no beg et » no love in
money-making as such, and there is bliss in following one's true
calling. All the necessary will be added unto it.
You should have seen the colored lights adorning our seventeen
Christmas trees: Canadian hemlocks we planted last fall at the
far side of our driveway. Why don't you all come one day--no
accident, please!{--to our peaceful house, old enough to have been
aT to John Quincy Adams? (In June, thoi.gh, I'll be again
abroad.
As ever,
Yours,
CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

Dear Pauls
My town is a patronymic of the poet and that's why I like to quote him.

Apropos math, I remember my owa initial misgivings as to Huclidear
geometry which "proves" the obvious aad claims to be "the" truth.’
I did well, though, ia algebra, trigosometry, and calculus, and later
learmed, much to my satisfaction, that the Greek's spatial theorems
are quite arbitrary aad just ome of many possible views. They were
superseded by Riemana's “mom-Kuclideaa" geometry which,through aad
after Einstein who employed it, revolutionized physics aad almost
everything else.
With best wishes for you all,
Ao
