The collection consists of a journal kept by Richard Varick DeWitt on a journey across England and western Europe from May 15-June 26, 1862.
- Biographical / Historical:
Richard Varick DeWitt wass born on February 6, 1800. DeWitt was a resident of Albany, New York and known for a ship portrait. Dewitt had six children and died on February 7, 1868.

- The collection was acquired in 1969, but the exact provenance is unknown.
