Background

Scope and Content:

This collection contains materials related to World War II rationing and price controls on the U.S. homefront. There is a gas ration card, application for a basic mileage ration book, and handouts from the Office of Price Administration.

Biographical / Historical:

Harriet Dyer Adams (1910-2005) was a librarian at the University at Albany and served as head of Special Collections in the 1970s. Adams was a 1927 graduate of the Milne School and in 1960 received her MLS degree from our University. Previously, she was a museum curator and worked in several art museums, including serving as the second female curator of the Cranbrook Art Museum from 1944-1948. These items are from her earlier tenure as curator, later acting director and curator, of the Person Hall Art Gallery at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Acquisition information:
The exact donation date of this collection is unknown, but these items were all donated to the University Libraries by Harriet Dyer Adams.
