4. Develop and deliver responsive professional development programs that build the skills
and capacity for leadership and local data-informed and evidence-based advocacy.

Our 2014 annual conference “Setting Out on the Right Path: Academic Libraries and the First Y ear
Experience” provided an opportunity for participants to leam about different ways to connect with
first year students. In addition to poster sessions and lightning rounds, 4 speakers shared their
perspective on the First Year Experience: Colleen Boff, Professor and Associate Dean of Libraries
at Bowling Green State University, “Understanding the First Y ear Experience: An Avenue to
Explore Trends in Higher Education’ Panel Discussion: Connecting With Today’ s First Y ear
Students: Michelle Bishop, First Y ear Experience Librarian, SUNY Oswego; Lisa Forrest, Director
of Research and Instruction Services, Hamilton College; Joyce Miller, Reference and Instruction
Librarian, SUNY Adirondack.

1. Identify innovative practices in learning environments and instruction that enable
academic librarians to transform learning.

We share information about information literacy-related projects and instructional practices through
ournewsletter. For example, our spring 2014 newsletter included an article by Barbara Norelli,
Social Sciences and Instructional Services Librarian at Skidmore College, “Infographics +
Annotated Bibliography =Adding Fun to the Equation” and our fall 2013 newsletter included.
“Getting Faculty and Students to Participate in an Information Literacy Assessment Project,” by
Catherine L. Crohan, Siena College.

4. Build capacity for the librarians’ role in supporting faculty and future faculty as they
work to develop information literate students.

We encourage student participation in our organization. Students attend our events, especially those
from regional programs in library/information fields, and some have participated as lightning round
and poster session presenters.

2. Enhance members’ capacity to address issues related to digital scholarship and data
management.

Our spring 2014 newsletter included an article by Jason Kucsma, Executive Director of the
Metropolitan New Y ork Library Council “Empire State Digital Network: Working to Bring New

York's Digital Collections to the Digital Public Library of America.” Our fall 2013 newsletter
included articles by Joanne Schneider, University Librarian and Professor in the University
Libraries at Colgate University, “How One Library Redefined Itself to Support Digital
Scholarship”, and David Fuller, GIS and Data Librarian at Union College “Datax (big +science +
sets) =big data +data science + data sets”

Education

In addition to our annual conference, our organization supports professional development
opportunities across our geographic region. During 2013-2014, member institutions hosted three
regional brown bag discussions about Libraries and MOOCs (at the University at Albany; Clarkson
University; and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF)).

We produce a newsletter twice a year (archives available at: http://enyaci.ory/site/newsletter
archive/), keep an active web site, share information via our Chapter list, and post via Twitter and
Facebook as possible.

This year, we endorsed the E-Resources Licensing Manifesto of the NY 3Rs Association. The
manifesto is part of their Information Infrastructure initiative, which aims to ensure affordable
access to information needed for the effective support of research, economic development, teaching,
and leaming throughout New Y ork State. We also shared information with our members regarding
the Middle States Commission on Higher Education’ s proposed revised accreditation standards,
which did not contain any mention of libraries or information literacy, and provided suggestions on
steps they could take if they were concemed.

Member Engagement

Our chapter co-sponsored a social event with the Upstate New Y ork Chapter of the Special
Libraries Association (UNY SLA) and the State University of New Y ork Librarians Association
(SUNY LA) at the Empire Collaborations Conference on June 10, 2014. Our newsletter includes a
Notes from the Field section which allows for sharing of member and institutional news.
