Each ACRL unit is asked to address the following issues in order for ACRL to assess how it is making progress on the strategic plan. Please
provide a short summary of the Chapter's activities for the following issues.
1. How has the Chapter facilitated ional devel ivities?
eo ENY-ACRL held 2 conferences both with the theme of academic library partnerships.
o The Fall 1999 ENY -ACRL conference, "Hand in Hand: Partnerships in Academe," was held at
Siena College on Monday, October 18th. With attendance figures topping 125 and Hannelore Rader, ACRL Librarian of the Y ear,
as keynote speaker, the conference was a rousing success.

The Spring 2000 ENY -ACRL conference, "Academic Libraries Partnering With Our Communities," was held on May 19th, at
Schenectady County Community College. The spring program expanded the focus of partnerships to collaborative efforts between
academic libraries and other types of libraries, organizations or institutions. The Call for Submissions and Participation brought 9
speakers to the conference. Unique to this conference, College & Undergraduate Libraries offered conference authors the
opportunity for publication in its June 2001 issue. Registration for the Spring conference totaled 86.
Another unusual aspect of the Spring conference was our pre-conference dinner. In keeping with the theme of partnerships, we had.
ajoint dinner meeting with the Hudson Mohawk Library Association and ENY -ACRL at the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia, NY
on May 18th. Another first, with 52 in attendance, we had a guest dinner speaker, Martin Gomez, Executive director of the
Brooklyn Public Library.
Michael Engle from Comell University was the recipient of the 2000 Librarian of the Year Award. The award was presented at the
Spring conference on May 19, 2000.

2. How has the Chapter influenced legislative activities regarding information policy or higher education at the state, regional, or
national level?
o Teny Romning, Past President, and Susan Zappen, Treasurer, testified before the New Y ork State Regents Commission on Libraries.
o Karen Ingeman, Govemment Relations Chair, alerts members via ENY -ACRL listserv to relevant legislative activities and informs
members of appropriate means for voicing concems.
3. How has the Chapter contributed to ACRL membership recruitment activities?
o Display information on ACRL at ENY-ACRL conferences.
o Link to the ACRL web site from the ENY-ACRL web site.
o Library school students are encouraged to attend conferences and join ENY-ACRL with discounted registration and membership
fees.
o ENY-ACRL membership is discounted for those members who also belong to ACRL.
o Membership committee members contacted institution liaisons to encourage enrollment in ENY-ACRL and ACRL.
4. Has the Chapter undertaken any special efforts this year?
o Initiated the process to re-establish federal tax exempt status now that we are incorporated.
o Registered our chapter website under the identifiable and mnemonic domain name of www.enyaci.org
o Moved the ENY/ACRL newsletter to an electronic format. As of the Spring 2000 newsletter, it will be distributed by e-mail and
posted to the ENY/ACRL web site only, no print copies will be produced.
o Updated our membership database after extensive data review.
o Program committee administered a Call for Submissions and Participation for the Spring 2000 conference.
