RE: Recognition Opportunities for Library Preservation Department
and University Athletics

DATE: September 26, 2014

University Library

The Division of Development seeks the Council’s approval to name the
Preservation Department at the University at Albany's Science Library in
honor of, and in recognition of, Alice Hastings Murphy '40 for her generous
bequest totaling $2.2 million. This bequest is one of the largest gifts from an
individual in the University's history, and the largest in support of the
University Libraries. This recognition opportunity is in line with previously
approved guidelines.

Hastings Murphy was with the University during its transformation from the College
for Teachers to the State University of New York at Albany, and was the first person
to hold the title of Director of University Libraries. During her tenure, she played an
integral role in the massive growth of the library in the 1960s. She retired in 1970 as
head librarian at the University.

University Athletics

The Division of Development seeks the Council’s approval on the attached
recognition list regarding the Academic Support Center, Football Offices and Sports
Information Office. These facilities are located in the Physical Education Building
