Council on Research Meeting Report
for November 9th Senate Meeting and October 26th SEC Meeting
Tuesday October 25, 2022, 3:00-4:30 PM
COR last met on September 21, 2022. We approved minutes from the September meeting as
well as the full subcommittee roster. Vice President for Research & Economic Development
Kesavadas presented a detailed update on research initiatives including the strategic plan for
doubling funded research by 2030 and the hires, research space, support staff, and alliances
necessary to achieve that goal. In addition, the VPRED discussed the AI initiative and the in-
progress application for the regional innovation hub; the Heathy Aging initiative; future
research in the life sciences; continued research on minority health disparities; and proposed
projects to include in the soon-to-be updated facilities master plan. The VPRED provided
greater detail about the efforts to redistribute indirect cost returns (ICR) and efforts to
streamline and standardize rules about the application of ICR. The office of the VPRED will be
seeking input from the COR membership about proposed changes to ICR rules as well as
proposed adjustments to processes regarding the creation and maintenance of centers and
institutes.
Subcommittees will have awards to review beginning in early November.
COR will meet again on Tuesday, November 15th.
