3-11-14 GAC Minutes
Minutes of the Council meeting of March 11, 2014
Approved by the Council on April 8, 2014
In attendance:

1. Dean’s Report – Kevin Williams
Dean Williams reported that the 2014 Graduate Student Assessment Survey was going out to 
current student on 3/11/14 from the Office of Institutional Research.  This is a valuable survey to
weigh various issues/factors from students.  He hopes for significant response participation.
Dean Williams brought to the attention of the Council a request from the Literacy and Special 
Education programs in the School of Education to incorporate a section on professional 
standards in each programs curriculum listing in the Graduate Bulletin.  There was no objection 
from Council members, so the Dean indicated he will have the editorial changes made as 
requested.
2. Chair’s Report – Ron Toseland
The Master of International Affairs (M.I.A) program proposal was approve by the University 
Senate on 3/10/14 and will be subject to transmittal to SUNY & NYSED upon approval by 
President Jones.
3. Committee on Curriculum & Instruction – Sridar Chittur
Professor Chittur introduced and summarized the Committee report previously distributed with 
the GAC agenda.  The sole item was a recommendation for minor change to the curriculum of 
the M.A. Latin American, Caribbean and U.S. Latino Studies program.  The Council voted 6-0-
0- to accept the report and thereby approve the recommendation for approval contain therein.
4. Minutes from the GAC meetings of 9/17/13, 11/15/13 and 12/13/13 were approved as 
distributed without change by a vote of 6-0-0.
5. Committee on Admissions & Academic Standing – Alan Zemel
Professor Zemel introduced and summarized the Committee report previously distributed with 
the GAC agenda.  The sole item was a recommendation pertaining to a grade grievance from a 
student in the School of Public Health.  The Council voted 6-0-0- to accept the report and 
thereby approve the recommendation for grade grievance change denial contain therein.
6. The meeting was adjourned.
