RE: Resignation
Eric and Gail,
Normally, according to the Bylaws II.8.3.a, the position would be filled by whomever ran against Tom in the election last year. That person--Anna
Radkowski-Lee--is, sadly and tragically, no longer with us. So, I think an election must take place, involving the entire Senate because that is the
constituency involved (See Bylaws II.8.3.b).
This should happen as soon as possible, although we need to find at least one candidate for the vote, preferably two. I'd recommend an e-mail call go out
ASAP to the Senate, with the hope that we'll have at least two respondents by the next Senate meeting. I believe that whoever takes over for Tom is
expected to finish his term.
In the interim, Gail and I will have to work on the Senate service issue and the upcoming elections. If things go well, a new Secretary will be able to take
the reigns before the actual spring elections. If not, though, we should do our best to keep this from us holding the elections as they are supposed to be
held.
Gail: I'll be in touch with you early next week once I'm back in Albany.

Gail,
I need to check on a few things regarding how we find a replacement until the end of the semester, at least. I will get back to you soon.
Susanna, if you have any inputs from a Governance perspective please let me have them.

Susanna and Eric,
Fortunately, I suppose, I did not get to sending the call letter last Friday which asked members of the voting faculty to contact Tom if they were interested
in Senate service. I had a last minute question for Susanna which you may not have gotten. Anyway, I will certainly be looking for guidance from both of
you on how to proceed in terms of what you may or may not expect from me in terms of picking up where Tom has left off. I think we should discuss.
Eric, we have touched on some of this in previous discussions but I would like to be clear on what the expectations will be.
Thanks,
Gail

Hello all-
It is with great sadness that I have decided to resign from my position as University Senate Secretary, and thus, from my seat on the senate, effective
immediately.
There are many reasons. The biggest one is that my senate secretary and other senate duties are taking too much time from my actual job. I am getting
behind in things that need to be done and that I want to do. It is clear to me that my job performance has started to suffer and I need to right that wrong
without further procrastination. If I thought that I was doing a bang-up job as secretary, I might bite my lip and forge ahead, but my performance as
secretary is nothing special. Further, my personal life has been a tad bumpy lately and I need to simplify and step back a bit so as to be able to do what
needs to be done, and do that well.
I apologize for the lack of notice, and also for the timing, but my head won't be in it, and one needs to be aware of when one will be ineffective.
I am absolutely sure that Gail will keep things on track.
If anyone would like to speak to me about this, please feel free to email. That said, this is something I absolutely need to do, so my decision is final.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve. I appreciate the opportunity.
