Discussion on the Recommendations to the Provost’s Office on the MRII Document:
It was moved to accept the recommendation from the Chairs of the Senate Councils and Senate 
Officers and forward it to the Provost’s Office. 
Amendments:

To drop the last sentence in Section I. A. “Why do we want AAU Status?”  It was moved 
and seconded and thoroughly discussed, the sentence will be deleted.

To make the second sentence in Section I. A. a question rather than using the declarative 
tone, or to drop the sentence entirely.  It was moved and seconded, the sentence “It is 
time to consider this assumption” was deleted.

To reword the first sentence in Section II. A. 1, to better clarify the word “foundational.”  
The new sentence would read:  “Redress the erosion in faculty size that has occurred in 
the foundational academic areas such as the humanities, arts, and social and natural 
sciences as well as in the professional areas.”  It was moved and seconded, the sentence 
will be reworded.

There was a motion to postpone the discussion on the Mission Review II 
recommendations to another meeting of the Senate because of the lateness of the current 
meeting.  The motion was defeated, the discussion continued.

A motion to delete Sections G, I, and J of Section II was moved and seconded.  There was
lengthy discussion on this proposed amendment.  The motion was defeated.

A motion was made to strike Section II. B. number 3 because the word possibly suggests 
being unsure.  This matter was discussed and the motion was passed, Section II. B. 
number 3 will be deleted entirely.

A motion was made to vote on the recommendations with the amendments as a whole.  
All were in favor, the recommendations with the above amendments were approved and 
will be submitted to the Provost’s Office.
