Minutes of the Graduate Academic Council meeting of October 22, 2018 3:00 PM, MSC 102A
Approved by the Council on 11/19/18 by vote of 6-0-0.

Draft minutes of the Oct 1, 2018 meeting were approved without amendment by vote of 7-0-0
2)
Membership of the Graduate Academic Council was updated with the addition of Tiffany Williams-
Hart.
3)
Dean’s Report – Nothing to report.
4)
Chair’s Report – Catherine Lawson substituted as chair in the absence of Chair Rafferty. There was
no report from the Chair.
5)
New Business – Proposal to establish a M.S. program in Digital Forensics & Cyber Security, through
the School of Business
Prof. Sanjay Goel reviewed the proposed new M.S. program and fielded questions from
the Council. Saraj Commuri joined him in answering questions.
Items of note were:
a) The review of the proposal by other universities with well-established
similar degree programs, b) the collaboration of the University at Albany’s
President and Deans of other programs to be sure there’s no over-lapping of
course topics and substance, and c) the high demand of pre-trained graduates from
a variety of businesses and industries.
Motion was made and seconded to approve the proposal
The Council voted to approve the proposal 8-0-0
Meeting was adjourned without opposition, at 3:40 PM.
