Whereas John Ryan served as Interim President of the University at Albany while continuing to
serve as the President of SUNY-Maritime, even living on campus;
Whereas John Ryan was instrumental in facilitating the smooth transition to the succeeding
president of the University at Albany, the late Kermit L. Hall;
Whereas John Ryan and Kermit Hall maintained a productive relationship during Ryan’s
chancellorship and Hall’s presidency to the credit of both;
Whereas John Ryan maintained this productive relationship with Officer in Charge Susan Herbst
and has been supportive of the campus;
Whereas John Ryan served as a forceful advocate for the State University of New York while
serving as its Chancellor;
Be it Resolved that the University Senate of the University at Albany salutes his service to the
University at Albany and to the State University of New York, and wishes Chancellor Ryan the
best of success in his new challenges.
