The Senate will be hosting meetings with the four candidates for provost, Wednesday May 4 at
2:15 in CC 375, Friday May 6th at 10:30 am in the Campus Center Assembly Hall, Monday May
9th at 10:30 and Wednesday May 11th at 2:15, both also in the Assembly Hall. We realize this is
an imposition during finals week. However, from a practical standpoint, most interaction of
faculty with the administration occurs through the provost, so participating in this decision is
important to you. Please try to make these dates.
At the faculty meeting of April 27, the faculty elected five new senators at large, Gwen Moore,
At its meeting of May 2, the Senate voted for the 2005/6 Vice Chair, Diane Dewar. It also voted
to create a committee to mediate disputes with faculty governance actions, and to require,
starting for graduate students admitted in 2006, the electronic submission of dissertations.
Modifications were made to the policy on academic misconduct to require written documentation
of the allegation phase, during which it is decided whether an inquiry is warranted.
The Senate has been discussing a new policy on academic advisement (see
http://www.albany.edu/senate/uac.htm), and a CAS honors college. It will be voting on May 9
on a bill to endorse the creation of the Center for Cancer Genomics, and on a policy to allow
creation of faculty and staff organizations.

www.albany.edu/senate, and includes reviews of budgets, issues of student retention,
regulations for free expression, and assessment of academic programs, research centers, and
tenure cases.
