Minutes of the University Senate Meeting
October 12, 2022

The meeting was called to order by Sydney Faught at 2:45pm, presiding.
Billie Franchini moved that we put the President’s report ahead of the minutes. The motion was 
approved by unanimous consent. 
President Rodríguez reported to the Senate, followed by a question-and-answer period.
Timothy Sergay motioned to amend the minutes. The amendments were approved by unanimous 
consent. Zakhar Berkovich motioned to approve the minutes. The motion to conduct the vote for 
the amended minutes was approved by the Senate. 
Votes: 31-approve, 6-disapprove, 3-abstain.
Senate Chair Sydney Faught reported to the Senate, followed by a question-and-answer period.
General Orders
1. Confirmation of new council members. Ilka Kressner motioned to approve for all council 
new member nominations. The motion was approved by unanimous consent. 
2. A general call for suggestions for topics of Senate forums for this academic year.

New Business
1. Discussion about creation of the ad hoc committee in response to University Faculty 
Senate Resolution 190-01-1, “Advancement of Historically Underrepresented Faculty,” 
adopted at the 190th UFS Plenary, Winter 2022. Senate Chair Sydney Faught solicited 
nominations from the floor for the chair of the ad hoc committee. Zina Lawrence self-
nominated and was approved by unanimous consent. 
2. The meeting adjourned at 4:27pm.
