SPECIAL REMINDER about a notice sent out to the campus regarding an active shooter exercise:
On October 15, 2019, the University at Albany will conduct two emergency management exercises on campus. In coordination with the University Police Department (UPD), local police departments and other first responders, the exercises will be used to analyze and evaluate the response and recovery section of the University’s Emergency Management Plan.
Both exercises will address the threat of an active shooter. The morning exercise will be a response-based drill affecting a building on the podium, while the afternoon exercise will be a discussion-based tabletop exercise going through initial notification, response and recovery phase.
October 15 is the second of the two-day fall break for students, so impact on educational and student activities should be minimal.
Morning drill components happening on the Podium
· Active drill with responders moving around the Podium
· Emergency drill will focus on the response to an active shooter
· Officers and responders from multiple departments will be on campus
· There will be actors and role players to provide realism
· Please respect the space being used for the exercise
Note on your calendar about the morning exercise on the Podium and make sure your coworkers are aware of the event. For questions, contact Stephen Conard, UAlbany’s Emergency Management Coordinator. sconard@albany.edu
