Dr. Matthew J. Fenton , director of the Division of Extramural Activities (DEA) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), will provide an overview of the Institute, their strategic priorities, and suggestions for navigating NIAID and other NIH institutes for research funding. He will also discuss the COVID-19 research being conducted at NIAID, especially clinical trials. Participants are encouraged to review NIAID’s Strategic Plan for COVID-19 Research before the webinar.
As one of the 27 institutes and centers of the National Institutes of Health, NIAID conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. For more than 60 years, NIAID research has led to new therapies, vaccines, diagnostic tests, and other technologies that have improved the health of millions of people in the United States and around the world.
The DEA serves the NIAID external research community and the Institute through policy oversight, peer review, and the management of grants and contracts, including research training, small business, and international awards.
