SUNY Distinguished Professor JoAnne Carson of Art and Art History will be the Grand Marshal for the 2021 Commencement ceremony, heading the traditional Grand Procession that involves ornate academic banners and celebratory music. Dressed in academic regalia and carrying the official University mace, the Grand Marshal leads the procession of graduating students and faculty members of the platform party in the formal ceremony, which will be virtual this year.

A detailed schedule for the 2021 Great Dane Graduation Experience can be found on the Commencement website . Join the Virtual Commencement Ceremony at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 20, and be sure to have a flashlight or candle handy to join the torch lighting ceremony.

Graduates can bring up to four guests to attend their in-person events and should check in together within the scheduled 15-minute time frame. Parking is at Casey Stadium. To make room for everyone, graduates and guests are encouraged to carpool, and should plan to leave the parking area as soon as their event has concluded.

Facemasks and compliance with COVID-19 policy is required for all attendees. All events will occur at their scheduled times, rain or shine.
