SD Award the German Chapter presents the “Gert-von-Kortzfleisch-Award
for outstanding German publications in system dynamics,
including a prize money of € 500. The award is named after
Gert-H. von Kortzfleisch who pioneered the application of and
education in system dynamics in Germany after having visited
Jay W. Forrester at the MIT in 1968.

Award Winners:

2009: Florian Kapmeier for his work on the dynamics of inter-
organizational learning alliances.

2010: Birgitte Snabe for her work on the usage of system
dynamics in organizational interventions.

2011: Robert Weikl for his work on the diffusion dynamics of
alternative car engines.

systemdynamics.de The Chapter hosts the German web portal for SD, offering

information about the approach in general, its history, literature,
a link list, etc. A password protected area gives members access to
an online membership directory and exclusive content such as the
presentations held during conferences.

publications etc. on an irregular basis.
Diversity increases within the German Chapter:

Geogra phically, as the share of members not

based in the South-West of
Germany increases, even
though a “South-West bias”
still persists.

Professionally, as the initial overweight of

academics has vanished.

Currently, only 44% of our

Systems
Attra cting interested scholars and practitioners who are not yet involved

with the international system dynamics community, the Chapter
offers a first

Point of contact and tries to win new members for the System Dynamics
Society. The share of Chapter members who are not members of
the System Dynamics Society has increased to 65% (up from
36% in 2007), showing that a regional point of contact is an
attractive complement to the international network built by the
Society. Hopefully, Chapter membership will translate into more
Society memberships from Germany.

Description:
The German Chapter advances networking and collaboration among system dynamicists in Germany. The Chapter has 113 members per end of April 2011 (of which 5 are corporate members) and keeps more than 280 interested researchers, managers, and students updated through its e-mail newsletter. System Dynamics colloquia and roundtables are regularly organized in various German cities (Frankfurt/Main, Munich). These events provide a basis for meeting fellow system dynamicists and for discussing modeling projects. On May 26-27, 2011, the Chapter's 5th Annual Meeting is held in Wolfsburg. This event brings together modelers from the scientific and corporate world, and by combining talks, presentations, and modeling exercises, it offers a formidable and appreciated platform for establishing links within the community as well as for actively advancing SD skills. More information on the activities of the German Chapter is available from our website at http://www.systemdynamics.de (in German).
