MILNE'S "DOUBTING THOMASES"
According to President Franklin
De. Roosevelt, there
ure clwcys a cer-
tain few who are dubious as to the sd-
visebility of adopting new measures,
and whose opposition c..nnot be destroyed
except by furnishing figures to prove
their success.

Strangely enough, this

There sre still those of us who
insist that this new system is but a
ehildish way of enforcing "military
discipline" upon innocent students,
ad ulthough as yet
we have no def-
-nite figures to convince those who
would already do away with this system,
we find that we might be cble to sooth
their enger by — few hitherto unmen-
tioned remarks.
It seems queer
that, at just the .&

more supervision by the faculty, it-would
be just such conduct. This is not ment
to be « scolding, but the fact remcins,
tmt such behevior might be taken us 4
sign of the desire of the student body
for more and closer proctorship.
Now, perhaps a few words of con-
solation might be in order. Milnites
should not think that this is the only
school where this pln has been put
into practice, for they would be sedly
mistcken. One of the chief reasons
why this system was considered prac-
ticcble in Milne is becuse of its mar
velous success in other institutions.
It has been found thet such an crrange
ment is beneficial to the majority,
while only a smell minority is ser-
jously affected.
Therefore, in accordance with whr
as been mentioned cbove, we believe
that before uny students begin a move
ment to protest this new system, they
stop und see if clready they haven't
gone too fur in the other direction,
especially by showing th:t this plan
is ulmost indispensable, und that
even more surveillance is needed.
