Albany, N.Y. — Senior forward Jessica Smith recorded a double-double with 21 points and 13
rebounds to lead Stony Brook to a 67-61 win over UAlbany in America East Conference action on
Wednesday evening at the SEFCU Arena.
lt was a back and forth game in the second half, as the game was tied seven times. The
biggest lead of the first half of the stanza was held by Stony Brook, who went ahead by five, 48-43,
on a Smith layup at 10:04. Junior forward Kristin Higy would tie the game for the final time at 54-54
with 5:43 on the clock before the Seawolves embarked on a 7-2 run that would put them up 63-56
with 3:00 left.
Stony Brook (17-10, AE 13-2), which used strong free throw shooting throughout the game,
went ahead by nine, 67-58, on two shots by Mykeema Ford with 38 seconds remaining. Freshman
guard Charity Iromuanya, the reigning America East rookie of the week, knocked down her third 3-
pointer of the game with three ticks on the clock to set the six-point deficit.
lromuanya was named the Great Danes’ A-East player of the game, tying a career-high with
17 points. lromuanya’s first trey of the game gave UAlbany the biggest advantage of the contest, as
the Great Danes went up 21-11 with 8:11 to play in the first half. Stony Brook fired back, and
managed to take a one-point lead, 28-27, into halftime.
“The team is playing good basketball,” said UAlbany head coach Trina Patterson. “We are
etting strong play on the floor, and when we have play like that, our future is looking great. Last year
we were not in many games, but this year, we have been in most of those tough ones.”
UAlbany (8-20, AE 4-11) also received double-digit performances from juniors Kristin Higy,
who netted 16, and Sherri Mikus, who added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
“We have been improving all season,” said senior Tanya James, who, along with fellow senior
Amanda Ward, was honored in a brief ceremony prior to gametime. “We played hard against the
second-place team in the conference, and that was something the whole team needed to do.”
Ford contributed 16 points, including going 4-for-4 from the free throw line, while Leah Getz
was the third player to score in double figures for the Seawolves, netting 13.

NO. 15 SYRACUSE USES FIRST-HALF RUN TO RECORD A 19-6 VICTORY OVER UALBANY
Syracuse, N.Y. — Senior attack Jill DePetris equaled a career-high with four goals and added one
assist in leading Syracuse, ranked 15thin both the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse national polls, to a 19-
6 victory over UAlbany on Wednesday evening at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange, who were coming off an 11-10 loss to sixth-ranked Dartmouth in last Saturday's
season opener, used a run of eight unanswered goals to break an early 2-2 tie. Freshman Christina
Dove, who had four goals and one assist, put her team ahead for good with 18:04 remaining in the
period. DePetris netted consecutive goals less than two minutes apart for a 6-2 advantage. Halley
Quillinan and Katie Rowan each scored twice in that stretch to give their team an eight-goal margin at
halftime.
The Great Danes, who were playing their second top-20 opponent this season, still trailed 12-4
early in the final period when Brittany Scott converted a free-position shot. Syracuse (1-1) then
ripped off five straight, as Quillinan, who totaled three goals and one assist, started that outburst by
connecting in a free-position situation. DePetris would later add her fourth goal of the game, before
Gabby Fortune scored unassisted with 12:06 to play.
Sarah Spillett, one of seven Syracuse area high school players on the UAlbany roster, tied a
career-high with four goals, including two in each half. Goalkeeper Jen Daly made 13 of her 18 saves
@ the opening period for the Great Danes, who fell to 1-3 overall.
Syracuse’s Rowan finished with three goals and one assist, while Amber Pardee-Hill stopped
nine shots. The Orange, who have won all five meetings in this series, are now 57-11 all-time in their
home facility.

Kansas City, Mo. — University at Albany’s Jamar Wilson has been chosen to the National Association
of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 2 squad. Wilson, a 6-foot-1 senior, was named to the first
team.
Wilson ranks first in scoring (18.6 ppg), second in assists (4.9 pg) and fifth in rebounding (6.2
pg) among the America East Conference leaders. He has scored 20 or more points on 12 occasions
this season, including a 29-point effort in last Sunday’s regular-season finale with Boston University.
A native of the Bronx, N.Y., Wilson became the first player in school history to score 500 or
more points in three different seasons last week, and currently has the fourth-best single-season total
with 538. He is the school’s all-time leader with 2,082 points, plus ranks seventh among the
conference's career scorers.
Wilson was named to the NABC All-District 2 second team as a junior, when he led the Great
Danes to an America East championship and a first-ever NCAA appearance.

JAMAR WILSON NAMED AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Jamar Wilson has been selected the America East
Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball, as announced by the conference office on
Monday afternoon. Wilson has won the weekly award four times this season and on eight occasions
overall.
Wilson averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of league victories over
Stony Brook (66-46) and Boston University (73-63). He shot 50 percent from the field, including 7-of-
10 from three-point range, and 84.6 percent from the line.
The 6-foot-1 senior tallied 19 of his 29 points in the second half as his team rallied against
Boston U, plus had six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Wilson scored 20-plus points for the
46th time in his career. He also had 19 points, six assists and four rebounds at Stony Brook on his
23rd birthday. Wilson became the first player in school history to score 500 or more points in three

Boston, Mass. — UAlbany’s Charity lromuanya earned her first America East Conference Rookie of
the Week honor after helping the Great Danes post a 75-68 win against league-rival New Hampshire,
as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
lromuanya, a 5-foot-8 freshman, scored a career-high 17 points against the Wildcats to lead
the Great Danes to their first win in the past nine games. Iromuanya added a career-best six assists,
plus had five steals, four rebounds and a block in 31 minutes on the court. She went 6-of-6 from the
free throw line, and shot 55.5 percent (5-of-9) from the field.
lromuanya, who started her 10th game as a rookie against New Hampshire, is averaging 5.4
points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.2 assists. She also leads the team in free throw percentage,
shooting 85.1 percent (40-47) from the line.
UAlbany (8-19, AE 4-10) will finish up the regular season this week, hosting Stony Brook for
Senior Day on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and visiting Vermont on Saturday at 1 p.m.
UALBANY MOVES INTO NATIONAL TOP 20 IN NIKE/INSIDE LACROSSE POLL
Baltimore, Md. — After knocking off nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins last Saturday, UAlbany has
moved into the top 20 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Division | Media Poll. The Great Danes, who were
unranked last week, are No. 12 in the latest voting. Princeton has taken over the top spot as there is
a new No. 1 for the third straight week.

[ FRANK RESETARITS NAMED AMERICA EAST LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boston, Mass. — UAlbany’s Frank Resetarits has been chosen the America East Conference Player
of the Week in men’s lacrosse, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Resetarits
scored four goals, including the game-winner with 1:44 remaining, in an 8-7 upset of nationally-
ranked Johns Hopkins on Feb. 25.
Resetarits, a senior attackman from Hamburg, N.Y., scored three times in the first half as
UAlbany leaped to a 5-0 lead midway through the second period. He has now scored four or more
goals on 10 occasions as a collegian. He moved into a tie for fifth place on the school’s career goals
list with 105 and is now sixth on the all-time scoring list with 165 points. Resetarits is second among

Boston, Mass. — UAlbany’s Kayla Best (Guilderland H.S.) has been named the America East
Conference Player of the Week in women’s lacrosse, as announced by the league office on Monday
afternoon. Best, a freshman midfielder, totaled seven goals in three games last week.
Best tallied a career-high four goals, including two in each half, in Sunday’s 13-7 loss to
Virginia Tech. She also netted a pair of goals against No. 19 Vanderbilt on Feb. 19, and added
another tally in her team’s 16-12 victory at Longwood. Best, who accounted for 62 goals as a
scholastic senior, was named to the 2006 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-America squad.
@ LEAH McINTOSH EARNS AMERICA EAST PITCHER & ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS
Boston, Mass. -- UAlbany freshman right-hander Leah McIntosh was named the America East
Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week in softball, as announced by the league office on
Monday afternoon. The weekly awards were the first of the 2007 season.
McIntosh, of Whitby, Ontario, went 3-0 in her first three appearances for the Great Danes,
earning wins over Stetson, Alabama State and George Mason, throwing a complete game against the
Patriots. McIntosh, who has a team-best 1.32 earned run average, struck out a team-best 18 batters
in 13.2 innings of work and has allowed just two earned runs. She recorded the Great Danes’ lone
shutout this season in the 6-0 win over George Mason. She struck out a career-high nine batters in
the contest. McIntosh is holding opposing batters to a .235 average.
UAlbany (4-3) will have a week off before heading to Rock Hill, S.C. to participate in the
Winthrop Tournament, starting on March 9.

UALBANY COMPETES AT BETHUNE-COOKMAN INVITATIONAL
Daytona Beach, Fla. — Freshman Jessica Signorelli finished 39th with a two-round score of
178 (91-87) to lead UAlbany to a 9th-place finish at the Bethune-Cookman Invitational. The
tournament was played at the Indigo Lakes Resort on a 5,913-yard, par-72 course on Feb. 24-25.
Sophomore Sun Hwa Kim finished 42nd with a combined score of 182 (93-89) while junior
Maggie Taylert shot rounds of 98 and 95 to finish with a two-day score of 193, good enough for 48th-
place. Sophomore Tracey Berns was tied for 53rd with a total score of 204 (104-100). UAlbany
placed 9th in the team finishing with a two-round score of 757 (386-371).
The Great Danes are back in action on Monday, April 16 as they compete at the Hartford
Invitational.

McBREARTY LEADS VIRGINIA TECH TO 13-7 LACROSSE VICTORY OVER UALBANY
Blacksburg, Va. - Kady McBrearty scored a career-high three goals to lead Virginia Tech to a 13-7
victory over UAlbany in the Hokies’ home opener on Sunday afternoon at Virginia Tech Lacrosse
Stadium. The game was delayed two hours and 45 minutes due to the weather.
The Hokies, who began their schedule with losses to No. 9 Virginia and Richmond, snapped a
2-2 deadlock with seven unanswered goals over the final 13 minutes of the first half. Lindsay Pieper,
a 46-goal scorer last year, started that run off a feed from McBrearty. Pieper finished with three goals
and one assist. Britt Faulkner followed with consecutive goals by converting a free-position shot and
scoring unassisted. Faith Richards’ unassisted goal with 20 seconds left before the intermission
capped that sequence.
UAlbany (1-2) closed within 10-5 in the opening seven minutes of the final period. Sarah
Spillett and Kate Fontana netted back-to-back free-position opportunities to close the gap. But the
Great Danes, who were coming off a 16-12 victory at Longwood on Thursday, could never get any
closer. Jackie Gray, who scored twice, ended that rally by scoring unassisted with 14:02 to play.

UALBANY SOFTBALL RECORDS A 13-3 VICTORY OVER BOSTON U. AT UCF TOURNAMENT
Orlando, Fla. —- Every UAlbany player scored at least one run, and all but one recorded a hit as
UAlbany posted a 13-run fifth inning to defeat Boston U., 13-3, on the final day of play at the Central Florida
Tournament on Sunday morning.
Boston U. took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on RBI singles by Shayne Lotito and
Brandi Sheilds. The Terriers tacked on another run in the fourth, as Molly Gallagher started off the inning with a
triple to right center and was driven home by a double by Chiya Louie.
UAlbany’s bats came alive in the fifth inning, as the Great Danes scored 13 runs on 10 hits. Junior
leftfielder Amber Maisonet finished with three RBI on two hits with two runs scored, while senior third baseman
Kelly Ogden and junior first baseman Leanne Tillman each drove in two runs and scored one. The Great
Danes saw three pitchers in the inning, as starter Megan Currier was replaced by senior Brittany Detwiler after
walking the first two batters. Detwiler allowed eight runs to score before Rachel Moeller took over for Boston U.
(3-2).

UALBANY RECORDS 20TH WIN IN 73-63 AMERICA EAST VICTORY OVER BOSTON U.
Albany, N.Y. — Jamar Wilson had 19 of his 29 points in the second half as UAlbany ended the regular
season with a 73-63 America East Conference victory over Boston University on Sunday afternoon at
SEFCU Arena.
Boston U. (11-17, AE 8-8) trailed 46-36 with 16:50 remaining, but wiped out that deficit with 11
unanswered. Freshman guard Tyler Morris had eight of his 18 points in that span, including a
turnaround on the right baseline that put his team ahead. The Terriers, who dropped a two-point
decision in the first meeting of the season between these clubs, moved out to a 52-48 margin when
Carlos Strong drained a three-point field goal from the right wing.
UAlbany (20-9, AE 13-3) regrouped with nine consecutive points in taking the lead back.
Wilson connected on one of his four 3-pointers, before coming up with a steal and finding Jon lati for
another three-point field goal that put their team ahead. lati, a 5’9” junior who had 12 points off the
bench, then sank another long-range jumper from the left corner for a 57-52 advantage.
The Great Danes, who reached the 20-win mark in back-to-back seasons for the first time in
17 years, still led 61-55 with 6:55 to play. But UAlbany pulled away with nine of the game’s next 10
points. lati made his fourth 3-pointer from the top of arc to ignite that run. Jason Siggers, who had 13
points on 6-of-10 shooting, later hit a slam dunk off Brian Lillis’ outlet pass, and Wilson converted a
left-handed drive in the lane for a 70-56 cushion.
r “| Know we wanted to go out with a bang,” said Siggers, whose team won 20 games in the
regular season for the first time since upgrading to the NCAA Division | level in 1999-2000. “We had
some things we wanted to accomplish as seniors. We are a confident team and have some
momentum going into the conference tournament.”
Corey Lowe, one of three freshman starters in the Terrier lineup, was the only other player in
double figures with 14 points. Scott Brittain, a 6’9” forward, added nine points and eight rebounds.
Wilson, who was one of three UAlbany seniors honored in a pre-game ceremony, made 9-of-17 from
the field and added six rebounds and three assists. The 6-foot-1 guard scored 20-plus points for the
46th time in his career in what was likely his last home appearance.
‘It's nice that people appreciate what you have done, | had a million of emotions racing through
me, explained Wilson about the ceremony prior to the game. “But the best thing is getting the win.
We have to make the best of what we have each time out (as seniors). As the coaches have been
saying to us, we have to impose our will on the opponent.”
In the first half, UAlbany pushed out to a 32-24 lead with 2:08 left before halftime as Wilson
made a pair of free throws. But Morris, who made 6-of-13 from the floor, connected on consecutive
three-pointers to close the gap to a single basket. Siggers would give the Great Danes a 36-32
halftime lead when he beat the buzzer on a turnaround from left of the lane.

UALBANY SOFTBALL SPLITS AGAINST VILLANOVA AND GEORGE MASON
Orlando, Fla. - Sophomore shortstop Meagan Butsch had two hits, including a home run, with two runs
scored and two RBI to lead UAlbany to a 6-0 win over George Mason on the second day of play at the Central
Florida Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Great Danes split play on the second day of the tournament,
falling to Villanova, 4-0, earlier in the day.
Against the Patriots, the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, as UAlbany
recorded four runs to take the lead. After senior third baseman Kelly Ogden opened up the inning with a single,
Butsch recorded a homer to give the Great Danes the 2-0 advantage. Catcher Leanne Tillman and rightfielder
Bailey Van Deest recorded consecutive singles before Laura Gremillion reached on a walk to load the bases.
An error by George Mason third baseman Kat Winter allowed Tillman and Van Deest to score to close out the
inning.
UAlbany added two more runs in the fifth, with Butsch and pinch-runner Shane Pais crossed the plate
in the frame. Freshman right-hander Leah McIntosh went the distance on the mound for the Great Danes,
fanning nine Patriot batters, and improving to 3-0 on the season. Becky Anderson and Paige Krystofinski
combined for the effort on the mound for George Mason (0-3), striking out just one UAlbany hitter.
Villanova (3-0) held the Great Danes scoreless in the second game of the day, as strong pitching by the
Wildcats Nicci Ward stifled the UAlbany batters. Ward went six innings for Villanova, fanning six and allowing
just five hits.
The teams remained knotted at 0-0 until the fifth inning, wnen the Wildcats scored three runs, led by a
Q@pourte by first baseman Eryn Teague. Teague’s double, coupled with a UAlbany error, scored the three runs
for Villanova. The Wildcats added an insurance run in the sixth to set the final 4-0 decision. UAlbany’s Casey

ill doubled and advanced to third on a fly ball to centerfield. Hill scored on a wild pitch before Wood hit the
Great Danes’ first home run of the game to left center. UAlbany added another run in the fourth before Sayre
knocked his homer in the seventh. The Great Danes loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, but centerfielder
Dave West hit into a fielder’s choice to end the game.
In the first of the two games, Liberty's Dustin Umberger went seven scoreless innings for the Flames,
striking out four. Tyler Light relieved Umberger in the eighth, allowing the Great Danes’ only run of the game,
as he walked the first two batters faced. UAlbany designated hitter Tom Hill followed with a single to
centerfield, scoring third baseman Pete Eichner. Ryan Page finished out the inning and sat three down in the
ninth to earn the save for Liberty.
Liberty (6-3) scored all five runs in the third and fourth innings, led by hits by Kenneth Negron. Negron,
who doubled in the third to lead off the inning, finished with three hits, two RBI and one run scored.
Chris Ott took the loss for UAlbany (0-5), going 3.2 innings on the mound. He was relieved by Sean
Gregory in the fourth. Gregory struck out three and allowed three hits in just over four innings of work.

UALBANY UPENDS NATIONALLY-RANKED JOHNS HOPKINS, 8-7, INSEASON OPENER
Baltimore, Md. — Frank Resetarits scored four goals, including the game-winner with one minute and 44
seconds remaining, as UAlbany upset nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins, 8-7, in the season opener for both
teams on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays were ranked No. 6 in the USILA coaches’
preseason poll and No. 1 in the current Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll.
In a game of runs, UAlbany (1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
Resetarits, who led the nation in scoring one year ago, connected on a low bounce shot to give his team a two-
goal advantage after the opening period. Matthew Green netted a hard shot, off an isolation play, over the
head of goalkeeper Jesse Schwartzman with 9:03 left in the second stanza, before Resetarits rifled a 15-
yarder inside the left post 48 seconds later for a five-goal margin.
Johns Hopkins (1-0) would get back into the contest by halftime. Kevin Huntley and Jake Byrne tallied
unassisted goals 34 seconds apart. Michael Kimmel, a freshman midfielder, then found the net with one
second left before the intermission to close the gap to 5-3. Kimmel went inside the right post off a long pass
from behind by Steven Boyle following a restart.
The Blue Jays, who had won 44 of their last 47 home games entering the contest, kept UAlbany off the
scoreboard for all of the third quarter and a good portion of the final period with a sticky defense. Meanwhile,
the offense put together a string of four unanswered goals. Mark Bryan, who was coming across the face of
the cage, scored off a pass from Kimmel to draw his team even at five apiece. Boyle, another freshman,
picked up a loose ball and hit the cage from the top of the crease for the go-ahead goal with 38 seconds left in
he quarter, before Michael Donegar gave his club a 7-5 lead early in the final stanza.
The Great Danes, who went scoreless for more than 33 minutes, then netted goals 31 seconds apart to
tie the contest. Steve Ammann drove around the cage and converted a spin move from the right side. John
Alpizar then netted a bounce shot from the top of the crease after moving in from the left. The sophomore
would later set up the winning play with another drive that found Resetarits wide open at the top of the crease.
The Blue Jays, who captured the 2005 national title and reached the NCAA quarterfinals last year, had two
opportunities to get the equalizer. Huntley’s blast went wide to the left with eight seconds left, before UAlbany
goalkeeper Brett Queener stuffed Boyle in the closing moments.
“John (Alpizar) dodged hard, Merrick (Thomson) set a pick for me, and | caught it and went low,”
explained Resetarits about the winning goal. “This is my greatest experience in sports. Everyone in this locker
room has a smile from ear to ear. It shows that we can beat anyone if we put our minds to it.”
UAlbany’s Queener, who also was used as an attacker in extra-man situations, finished with four saves.
Ammann and Alpizar each had one goal and one assist. Resetarits, a preseason honorable mention All-
American, scored four or more goals for the tenth time as a collegian.
“That's pretty big to beat one of the best programs in the history of the game, on their field, and on
national television,” said UAlbany coach Scott Marr, an attackman on Johns Hopkins’ 1987 national
championship team. “It shows the character of our kids and that no one stopped playing. They made some
adjustments on defense and we got tentative in those middle periods. We went to some different sets in the
final part of the game. Alpizar made a heckuva play to get underneath the defender on that tying goal and the

New York, N.Y. — University at Albany’s Jessica Ortman and Kamilah McShine each won events to
highlight their team’s performance at the 2007 NYU Fastrack Invitational on Friday evening at the
New Balance Armory Track and Field Center.
Ortman, a sophomore, took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.77 and was more than
three seconds ahead of a 31-runner field. Ortman, who was the track performer of the meet at last
weekend's America East Conference championship, won her fourth 800m competition of the season.
She was a first-place finisher at Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational, New York’s Gotham Cup and the Yale
Season Opener.
McShine, the current America East 55-meter hurdles champion, sprinted 8.87 seconds to edge
Delaware’s Alexi Capsouras by six-hundredths of a second in the 60-hurdles. Brenna Militello placed
third in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 3-inches. Ritshell Verdier threw 48-feet, 1.75-inches to
finish fourth in the weight throw and 42-11.75 to place fifth in the shot put.
In the men’s competition, Valete Graham qualified for next weekend’s IC4A championship with
a season-best leap of 23-feet, 2.75-inches to take third in the long jump. Luke Schoen finished
second in the pole vault as he cleared the bar at 14-feet, 9.25-inches. Renauld Buck was fifth in the
shot put with a throw of 50-feet, 4.75-inches, his best mark of the season. Jean Juste, the America

UALBANY SOFTBALL SPLITS GAMES ON FIRST DAY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA TOURNAMENT
Orlando, Fla. — Junior leftfielder Amber Maisonet drove a triple to right center and scored the first run of
the game in the opening frame to lead UAlbany to a 3-2 win over Alabama State on the first day of the Central
Florida Tournament on Friday, Feb. 23 at the UCF Softball Complex.
Senior Kelly Ogden hit a ground-out back to the pitcher, which allowed Maisonet to cross home plate in
the first inning. The Great Danes added another run in the third, as freshman second baseman Michelle
Connors, who opened the frame with a single, was driven in by catcher Kat Smith.
Alabama State (4-4) sparked a comeback in the fourth, tying the game at 2-2 as leftfielder April O’Neal
advanced two bases on consecutive wild pitches by the Great Danes’ Marissa Powell. Hornet first baseman
Whitney Valentine then drove a home run over the fence to bring in the two runs.
The game remained knotted until the bottom of the seventh, before junior pinch hitter Leanne Tillman,
who singled up the middle to get on base, reached home on an error. Freshman right-hander Leah Mcintosh
earned her second win of the season, pitching the final two hitless innings, fanning three.
In the second game of the day, Allison Kime allowed just one hit, while striking out eight Great Dane
hitters, to lead Central Florida (8-5) to a 1-0 win.
UAlbany (2-2) leftfielder Amber Maisonet opened the game with that lone hit as she reached on a bunt
single. Maisonet was left stranded as she would be the last UAlbany player Kime allowed to reach base in the
contest, sitting down the next 21, including eight by strikeout to record her third shutout of the season.
UAlbany's Casey Halloran, who allowed one unearned run in the first, gave up a single to third
baseman Cici Alvarez in the sixth, as neither pitcher issued walk in the contest.

UALBANY DROPS 9-2 DECISION TO LIBERTY IN NON-CONFERENCE BASEBALL ACTION
Lynchburg, Va. - Tommy Bussey knocked an RBI triple down the right field line to start off a five-run fourth
inning in leading Liberty to a 9-2 win over UAlbany in non-conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at
Worthington Stadium.
UAlbany (0-3) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, as second baseman Al Barbato kicked off the
game for the Great Danes with a double to right field. Right fielder Leo Corvino reached first after being hit by a
pitch, while catcher Tom Hill took base on an error, which scored Barbato. UAlbany loaded the bases when
shortstop Sean Donovan was hit by a pitch by Liberty’s Michael Solbach. Solbach struck out the next UAlbany
batter, but walked left fielder Tom Zink to bring in the second run of the inning for the Great Danes.
Those would be the only two runs UAlbany would score, however, as the Flames would put together a
four-run third and a five-run fourth to overhaul the Great Danes’ early lead.
Starter Casey Walsh struck out four batters across three innings for UAlbany, earning his first loss of
the season. Barbato, Zink and centerfielder Dave West each had one hit for the Great Danes.
Bussey finished with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI for Liberty (4-3). Designated hitter Tim
Nanry also drove in two runs for the Flames, while Solbach went six innings on the mound, fanning six.

Stony Brook, N.Y. — Jamar Wilson scored 19 points and Jason Siggers added 15 in leading UAlbany to
a 66-46 America East Conference victory over Stony Brook on Thursday evening at SBU Arena.
The Great Danes, who set the program's Division | record with its ninth road win of the season,
improved to 19-9 overall and 12-3 in the conference. Stony Brook fell to 9-18 and 4-11.
The Great Danes, who have won four straight in this series, moved out to a 48-22 lead early in
the final when Jon lati drilled a 3-pointer. UAlbany was never really threatened from that point
forward as they held the Seawolves to 36.2-percent shooting, including 1-of-9 from the three-point
arc.
UAlbany led 37-17 at halftime, its second largest lead at the break this season, by shooting 52
percent. The Great Danes leaped to a 15-4 lead in the opening five-plus minutes. Jamar Wilson had
eight points in that stretch. Jason Siggers, who had 10 first-half points, later buried a three-point field
goal for a 24-10 advantage. Brian Lillis' rainbow 3-pointer pushed the margin to 20 points.
“It was a good way to get back on track and at same time gain some momentum,” said
UAlbany head coach Will Brown. “I thought we played solid defense the last eight minutes of the first
half. We used a little zone to give them something different to look at. We are learning as we go with
that defense."
Mitchell Beauford led SBU with 20 points and was the lone player in double figures. UAlbany's
@sian Lillis added 11 points and seven rebounds, and has scored in twin figures in five of his last eight
Starts. Wilson, who along with Siggers and David Bauman will be honored this Sunday in a senior
ceremony at SEFCU Arena, made 6-of-13 from the field with six assists and four rebounds.
"We hit open shots and did a good job of finding the open people,” said Jamar Wilson. “We
showed them some things on defense that we haven't done in the past. We wanted their younger
players to try and beat us. | just want to make the best of every game as | get closer to not wearing a

UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE CLAIMS FIRST WIN OF SEASON, 16-12, OVER LONGWOOD
Farmville, Va. — Junior midfielder Brittany Scott scored a career-high four goals to lead UAlbany to its
first victory of the season, a 16-12 win over Longwood on Thursday afternoon at the Athletics
Complex.
UAlbany (1-1) rattled off four goals to start the game, as sophomore midfielder Julie Bush
found the back of the net less than a minute into the contest. Scott added her first tally of the day at
27:25, followed by goals by Erin Fiztmartin and Jane Bush.
Longwood (0-2) cut the deficit in half on back-to-back goals by sophomores Britt Farquharson
and Liz Sellmayer. The Great Danes would add goals by Sarah Spillett and Rory Redmond midway
through the half before closing out the stanza with three straight. Scott scored two goals within thirty
seconds of each other under the two minute mark while Spillett added her second of the day with 25
seconds left on the clock to give UAlbany a 9-5 advantage at the half.
Longwood’s Shannon Strain slipped the ball past Great Dane goalkeeper Jen Daly at 29:34 of
the second half but UAlbany responded with consecutive goals by Julie Bush and Kate Fontana. The
Great Danes would score five more times in the game before Longwood sparked a comeback.
With 5:07 remaining, the Lancers’ Michelle Owen took an assist from Kathleen Barry to score
the first of four goals in the closing minutes. Farquharson netted an unassisted goal with 2:25 left,
which would prove to be as close as Longwood would get.
Daly saw the majority of time in the net for UAlbany, making six saves. Sophomore Katie Neer
layed the final 5:53 of the game, making one save for the Great Danes. Junior Jennifer Holliday and
freshman Eliza Coughter combined for 17 stops for Longwood.

UALBANY ENDS SKID WITH 75-68 WIN OVER NEW HAMPSHIRE
Albany, N.Y. — Junior forward Kristin Higy scored a career-high 21 points and freshman guard Charity
lromuanya netted a career-best 17 to lead UAlbany to a 75-68 win over America East Conference
rival New Hampshire, breaking the Great Danes’ eight-game skid on Wednesday evening at the
SEFCU Arena.
UAlbany (8-19, AE 4-10), which held a 29-28 halftime lead, took the lead for good late in the
second half, going on a 10-0 run sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from junior forward Gia
Sanders and Iromuanya.
With the game separated by two points at 60-58, the two combined for the first basket at 3:14,
with lromuanya dishing off to Sanders on the left side. Less than a minute later, they reversed the
handoff, and gave the Great Danes an eight point lead, 66-58. Iromuanya, who also recorded one
block, five steals and a career-high six assists, then drained two free throws to put UAlbany up, 68-
58.
Higy helped the Great Danes achieve their highest shooting percentage of the season, hitting
81.8 (9-11) from the floor. UAlbany, which shot 58.8 percent as a team, went 16-of-24 (66.7 percent)
in the second half. Higy also recorded a team-high seven rebounds to go along with three steals and
an assist.
“We took the opportunity to break the streak,” said Higy, who netted double-digit points for the
13th time this season. “We knew we needed to step up and win this game.”
Sanders and freshman guard Britney McGee also reached double figures, scoring 11 and 10
points, respectively. Sanders, who shot 5-of-9 from the floor, also recorded five boards, two assists
and a pair of steals.
“This was our best offensive showing of the season,” said head coach Trina Patterson, who
was coaching her third game after returning from giving birth to her third son. “The best part is, we did
it against a zone defense, which has been a problem for us all season. This gives us confidence
going into this last stretch because now we know that we can score against any defense.”
New Hampshire (8-17, AE 3-10) was led by senior forward Danielle Clark, who recorded her
fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Amy Simpson
scored a team-high 14 points, while senior guard Whitney Edwards recorded 13 points and eight
assists.
GREAT DANES SOFTBALL SPLITS SEASON-OPENING DOUBLEHEADER AT STETSON
DeLand, Fla. — After getting shut out by Stetson in the first game of a doubleheader, 5-0, the
UAlbany softball team used two home runs from third baseman Kelly Ogden to register a 6-2 victory
in the nightcap, in college softball action at the Stetson Softball Field.
The Great Danes could only muster two singles by right fielder Michelle Pechacek in the
opener, as the offense was largely shut down by Hatters starter Erica Demers, who threw a complete
game and struck out three hitters for her third victory of the season. Stetson scored four runs on two

Blacksburg, Va. — Virginia Tech center fielder Nate Parks was 2-for-3 with two RBI and three
runs scored as the Hokies defeated UAlbany, 8-2, in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday
afternoon at English Field.
Virginia Tech (3-2) drew first blood with designated hitter Jose Cueto’s solo home run to
center field in the second. The Great Danes (0-2) responded with two runs in the third, one on a
sacrifice fly by catcher Tom Hill and the other on an RBI single from shortstop Sean Donovan,
bringing home right fielder Leo Corvino (Columbia).
The Hokies came back with two in the bottom half of the frame on RBI singles by Parks and
third baseman Bryan Thomas, and added another three in the fifth on first baseman Sean O’Brien’s
two-out, bases-clearing double. Virginia Tech then sealed the victory with single insurance runs in the
sixth and eighth innings.

UALBANY BASEBALL DROPS SEASON-OPENER TO DUKE, 7-1

Durham, N.C. — Duke posted a four-run sixth inning behind home runs by rightfielder Jimmy
Gallagher and Nate Freiman to defeat UAlbany, 7-1, in the Great Danes’ season opener on Tuesday
afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings before Duke got on the scoreboard
on an RBI single by Matt Williams in the bottom of the fourth that scored Gallagher.
UAlbany (0-1) recorded four hits on the day, with senior catcher Chris Wood scoring the only
run for the Great Danes. Shortstop Sean Donovan, leftfielder Mike Konstanty and centerfielder Dave
West all knocked a hit in the game. West’s single in the seventh scored Wood.
Duke (7-0) was led by two hits apiece from Gallagher and catcher Matt Williams, who also
drove in one run. The Blue Devils, who have scored double-digit runs in all but two games this
season, had a strong outing on the mound from freshman right-hander Alexander Hassan. Hassan
went five innings for Duke, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
Senior right-hander John Naples (Catholic Central) started the game on the hill for the Great
Danes, going five innings, striking out three and allowing four earned runs. Southpaw Cory Warrings
came in on middle relief, fanning two Duke batters in his one inning.
The Great Danes will continue their southern swing on Wednesday, as they visit Virgina Tech
at 3 p.m.

UALBANY HAS 61 STUDENT-ATHLETES ON A-EAST FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
Boston, Mass. — Arlette Westdorp was named the America East Conference Scholar-Athlete for field hockey,
while Stephan Hall earned the top award in men’s soccer for the second consecutive year, as UAlbany placed
61 student-athletes on the league’s fall academic honor roll, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
More the 594 student-athletes across the conference posted a grade point average of 3.0 or better in
the fall of 2006. The Great Danes also had 34 representatives among the 305 who were named to the
Commissioner’s Honor Roll, acknowledging a GPA of 3.5 or better.
Hall earned his second scholar-athlete award from the conference after achieving a 3.98 GPA while
pursuing his master’s degree in information technologies. He was selected to the national CoSIDA/ESPN the
Magazine All-Academic First Team in 2005 and 2006, plus is a three-time All-District | selection. On the soccer
field, Hall started all 74 matches in his career and was a team captain as a junior and a senior.
Westdorp, a sophomore economics major, has also been a member of the A-East All-Academic Team
and the UAlbany Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. After leading the nation with 1.12 assists per game, Westdorp,
who helped lead a defense which was ranked tenth in the country, was named the America East’s defensive
player of the year. She became the program’s all-time assists leader, recording 33 assists in her two seasons
with the UAlbany program.
Hall joined 14 other members of the men’s soccer team, which had the most representatives for
UAlbany. Men’s soccer also had 11 members on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, to lead the athletic program

1ockey had nine representatives, while men’s cross country had eight and women’s cross country had five. All
five student-athletes on the women’s cross country team also earned Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades.

NATIONALLY-RANKED VANDERBILT UPENDS UALBANY IN LACROSSE OPENER
Nashville, Tenn. — Margie Curran and Cara Giordano scored four goals apiece to lead Vanderbilt, the
nation’s 19th-ranked women’s lacrosse team, to an 18-5 victory over UAlbany in the season opener
for both teams on Monday afternoon at Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
The Commodores, who are ranked by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches
Association (IWLCA), scored six times in the opening eight minutes of play. Curran, who entered the
contest with more than 100 career points, scored back-to-back goals nine seconds apart to ignite that
early run. Giordano, a sophomore midfielder, then found the net from the top of the crease before
later converting a pair of free-position opportunities.
Anastasia Adam, a freshman, and Kendall Thrift each had a pair of first-half goals in staking
Vanderbilt to a 13-1 halftime advantage. Thrift, a senior attack, finished with three goals and one
assist. The Commodores, who compete in the American Lacrosse Conference, meet top-ranked
Northwestern in their next outing on Feb. 25.
The Great Danes’ Kayla Best (Guilderland H.S.) scored twice early in the final period. A 2006
U.S. Lacrosse high school All-American, Best was playing in her first game as a collegian. Sarah
Spillett, Julie Bush and Christine Grueniger added unassisted goals. Senior goalkeeper Jen Daly, the
school's all-time saves leader, stopped nine shots.

UALBANY FOOTBALL RECEIVES COMMITMENTS FROM 18 STUDENT-ATHLETES
Albany, N.Y. — University at Albany head football coach Bob Ford announced today that 18 student-athletes have
signed commitments to play for the Great Danes in the 2007-08 academic year. UAlbany finished with a 7-4
record and tied for second place in the Northeast Conference standings last season.
The 2007 signing class is comprised of eight players from the state of New York, plus three from
Florida, three from Pennsylvania, two from New Jersey and one each from Texas and Maryland. The break-
down by position includes three quarterbacks, four offensive linemen, two wide receivers, two running backs,
three defensive linemen, one linebacker and three defensive backs.
"We were able to sign three excellent defensive linemen and two cover cornerbacks," said Ford, who is
second among active Division I-AA coaches with 217 career victories. "Those two areas were needs for a
defense that is coming off a pretty good year. Terrell Dobbins has a chance to be a great tailback with his size,
balance and vision. | like that fact that we attracted two big wide receivers and three quarterbacks, plus we
eo. depth to our offensive line."
The Great Danes landed three all-state players from New York, including defensive tackle Zach Gallo,
wide receiver Luke Weaver and defensive end Kyle Hussey. Gallo, a Class A first-team selection by the New
York State Sportswriters Association, earned All-Long Island honors twice. Athree-time All-Suffolk County
choice, Gallo totaled 54 tackles and six sacks as a senior. Weaver was named to the Class AA third team and
was a consensus first-team All-Area wide receiver. He had 29 receptions for 581 yards and eight touchdowns,
plus totaled 50 tackles and five interceptions as a defensive back. Hussey, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive
end, made the Class AA all-state fourth team. He recorded 73 tackles, six tackles and three pass deflections
and was chosen first-team All-Area by the Albany Times Union and Schenectady Daily Gazette.
UAlbany extended its reach into the state of Pennsylvania. Tailback Terrell Dobbins was named to the
Associated Press and Pennsylvania Football News Class AAA all-state first team after rushing for 1,343 yards
and 16 touchdowns. Dobbins also had 15 receptions out of the backfield. Wil Moushey, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound
defensive end, was tabbed by Pennsylvania Football News to its honorable mention all-state team. Moushey, a
member of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 North squad, accounted for 67 tackles and three sacks.
Offensive lineman Keith Peifer (6-6, 265) led his team to the school's first-ever district title and an appearance
in the PIAA Eastern final.
The Great Danes picked up three players from Florida and two from New Jersey. Daniel Avery and
Dwann Ivey, a pair of defensive backs from Miramar Everglades High, earned honorable mention All-Broward
County recognition. Avery will also compete as a hurdler on UAlbany's track and field team. John Lullen (6-2,
185) provides the offense with another big target at wide receiver. He had 30 receptions and was the top scorer
@- his high school's basketball squad. Dan Di Lella, a two-time all-area quarterback who passed for 1,500-
plus yards as a junior and senior, and linebacker Marc Wargo played on the scholastic level in the Garden
State. Di Lella is the tallest signal-caller in the UAlbany football program's history at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds.

UAlbany signed five other players from the state of New York, including second-team all-area
quarterback and Glens Falls High standout Denny Wilhelm, who threw for 1,259 yards and 14 touch-
downs. Mike Tracy led Sayville High to a Nassau County championship as a second-team All-Long
Island quarterback. Jeff Benway, a starting quarterback who passed for six touchdowns and ran for
three more at Queensbury High, will move to free safety at the collegiate level. Kyle O'Keefe (6-3, 280)
and Chaz Mitchell (6-4, 235) bolster the UAlbany offensive line at the center/guard and tackle positions,
respectively.
Andy Sparano, the son of Dallas Cowboys' assistant head coach Tony Sparano, will play offen-
sive guard for the Great Danes. He was named to the District 5-5A squad by the Dallas Morning News
and Fort Worth Star-Telegram. His brother, Tony, is a sophomore defensive end on the UAlbany team.
In addition, Mohamed Yansane, an honorable mention All-Montgomery County cornerback, had four
interceptions as a high school senior.

UALBANY MEN WIN FOURTH AMERICA EAST TRACK & FIELD CROWN IN PAST FIVE YEARS
Boston, Mass. — Junior David Parker (Niskayuna) set a school record in the heptathlon,
finishing first in the event, as the UAlbany men’s track and field team won the America East
Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship for the fourth time in the past five years on Saturday.
The Great Danes tallied 203.5 points in the meet, breaking the previous meet record of 202 points,
set by Northeastern in 1991. The two-day meet was held at Boston University’s Track & Tennis
Center.
Parker, who tallied 4,914 points and qualified for March's IC4A meet, won the heptathlon’s 55-
meter hurdles in 8.16 seconds and the pole vault with a height of 15-feet, 2.75-inches, and tied for
first in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, 4.75-inches. The previous school record in the heptathlon
was held by Fred Frese, who registered 4,849 points in 2004.
The Great Danes earned three other victories in track events, with sophomore Pat Weider
winning the 200-meters in 21.57 seconds and sophomore Jean Juste taking the 55-meter hurdles in
7.52 seconds. In addition, Weider was a member of the first-place 4x400-relay team, which also
consisted of sophomore Andrew Overbaugh, freshman Nick Lemp and senior Junior Burnett. The
relay registered a time of 3:16.99.
Burnett finished second in two individual events, clocking in at 6.42 seconds in the 55-meters
and at 21.63 seconds in the 200-meters. Elsewhere, freshman John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville)
@inisne second in the 800-meters in 1:50.83, his best time as a collegian, while Lemp came in third in
the 500-meters in 1:05.40. Another school record was set by the 4x800 relay team, as Jared Jupin
(Shaker), Ricardo Estremera, Joe Belokopitsky (Shaker) and Moore placed second in 7:38.73.
In field events, sophomore Mike McCadney won the triple jump with a leap of 49-feet, 1.75-
inches. Sophomore Freddie Wills, who won Friday’s long jump, finished second in the high jump with
a distance of 6-feet, 7.5-inches, and came in third in the triple jump with a leap of 46-feet, 7.25-
inches. Wills, who totaled 27 points, also had a sixth-place finish in the hurdles. Junior Renauld Buck
placed second in the shot put with a throw of 50-feet even.
‘| told our team that it was a privilege to coach them and that they have continued a winning
tradition,’ said UAlbany coach Roberto Vives, a member of the America East coaching staff of the
year. ‘It was a team effort all the way, especially to score that many points in both the long jump and
triple jump. David Parker has become a bonafide multi-event athlete after competing in the
heptathlon for the first time just two weeks ago. Freddie Wills had an exceptional meet by scoring in
four different events.”

e Boston, Mass. — Sophomore Jessica Ortman, who won the 1,000-meters and the mile run
and was a member of the record-setting 4x800 relay team, was named the Most Outstanding Track
Performer at the America East Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship. The Great Danes
finished second with 155 points, 23 behind first-place Boston University. It was the third second-place
finish for the indoor team in the past four years.
Ortman was the first-ever UAlbany women’s athlete to earn most outstanding performer
honors at the America East indoor meet. Her time of 2:50.74 in the 1,000-meters shattered her own
mark of 2:50.90, set at the 2006 Terrier Classic. She also registered a time of 4:54.76 in the mile. The
4x800 relay team, made up of Adanna Andrews, Anisha Andrews, Helene Abiola and Ortman, set
both an America East championship and UAlbany record with a time of 9:02.66. The previous
conference record was 9:06.11, set by New Hampshire in 2003, while the previous school record of
9:08.42 was set in 2001. The time was also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
After winning the 5,000-meters on Friday, senior Alyssa Lotmore (Bishop Maginn) followed
with a first-place finish in the 3,000 with a season-best time of 9:51.40. Sophomore Kamilah
McShine also won her second event of the meet, taking the 55-meter hurdles in 8.16 seconds. She
was victorious in the pentathlon the previous day. In other track events, Adanna Andrews came in
second in the 500-meters in 1:14.53, breaking her own school record of 1:14.54, set at last year’s
America East indoor meet, while Anisha Andrews finished third in the 400-meters in 57.15 seconds.
Junior Brenna Militello’s record-breaking victory in the high jump was a highlight of the field
events. Militello’s leap of 5-feet, 7.25-inches, surpassed the school mark of 5-feet, 5-inches, set by
Janna Johnston in 1998 and by Militello earlier this season. Senior Sarah Charles broke her own
@-Arvany record in the triple jump with a leap of 40-feet, 4-inches, good for second place. Sophomore
Jenn Gurrant placed third with a triple jump of 39-feet, 8-inches and fourth in the long jump with a
distance of 1/-feet, 9.75-inches.
“We had hoped for more, but | am not sure we could have done anything else,” said Ortman
about her team’s second-place finish in the team standings. “The field went out slow in the 1,000, but
| felt comfortable enough to go for it (the lead) in the last 200 meters and was able to execute. |
wanted to help my teammates win a championship in the 4x800 (relay). When | got the baton on the
final leg we had closed the gap to six seconds, | gradually worked my way up to the front.”

Hartford (18-7, AE 11-1) used a 14-2 run to break a 13-13 tie with 6:17 left in the opening
period. Hood, a 6-foot-1 junior who grabbed seven rebounds, ignited that stretch with a layup and
later buried a jumper in lane. Delva, who had 10 first-half points, made six free throws and a basket
in the lane. The Hawks, who have won nine of 10 games at home this season, settled for a 27-15
halftime advantage.
UAlbany (7-19, AE 3-10) trailed by as much as 15 points early in the final period before cutting
into that margin. Devran Tanacan, a 6’4” sophomore, converted a three-point play when she was

Hawks’ Lisa Etienne drilled a three-point field goal with 1:40 left to thwart any comeback. Etienne,
who was the fourth Hartford player in double figures with 11, made three fouls shots in the stretch to
keep her team in front.
“In the second half we played aggressive and confident,” said UAlbany coach Trina Patterson,
whose squad made just 5-of-25 field goal attempts in the first half. “Our defense was good, but our
offense was not there in the first twenty minutes. We need to have five players on the same page
that are noticed for forty minutes. When that happens we will string some wins together.”
Freshman Britney McGee had 12 points for the Great Danes, who suffered their eighth
consecutive setback. Kristin Higy and Charity lromuanya had nine and eight points, respectively.

“We let them get away from us in that last five minutes of the first half,” offered Mikus, who

BOISE STATE EDGES UALBANY, 83-82, INESPNU BRACKETBUSTERS SHOOTOUT
Boise, Idaho -- Anthony Thomas scored 16 points and made the go-ahead three-point field goal with
32 seconds remaining to lift Boise State past UAlbany, 83-82, in the fifth annual O’Reilly ESPNU
BracketBusters on Friday evening at Taco Bell Arena.
UAlbany (18-9) took an 82-80 lead when Jamar Wilson made a conventional three-point play
when he was fouled on a drive from the free throw line. Wilson, a 6-foot-1 senior, finished with 22
points and five assists. Thomas answered back on his team’s next possession when he drilled a
long-range jumper from the top of arc off a screen. The Great Danes had several chances to regain
the lead in the final moments. Brian Lillis missed a bank shot from the left side off a dribble drive with
two seconds left and Brian Connelly failed to convert the follow shot as the horn sounded.
In a game that featured 33 lead changes and six ties, UAlbany snapped a 76-all tie when Brent
Wilson canned a 3-pointer from the right side. Wilson, a 6-foot-8 junior, ended up with 16 points and
seven rebounds. The Broncos, who have won 12 of 13 games at home this season, went back
ahead, 80-79, as Seth Robinson, who scored 11 off the bench, hit a baseline jumper and Eric Lane
converted a fastbreak layup after a steal.
“The two teams battled each other the whole game, so there really was no loser in this one,”
said Brent Wilson, whose squad had won 10 of its last 12 entering the contest. “Both teams are

ersonnel, it's going to difficult to hold each other down defensively.”
Boise State (15-10) reversed a 21-13 deficit in the first half with a 13-4 run. Reggie Larry, a
66” junior who led his team with 22 points, and Thomas led that comeback, before Seth Robinson
put his team ahead on a three-pointer following a turnover. In a period where the lead switched
hands 13 times, BSU's Tyler Tiedeman broke a 37-37 deadlock with a long-range shot. Thomas, who
made 6-of-9 from the floor, would later launch a 40-footer that beat the buzzer and gave the Broncos
a 43-39 lead at the intermission.
“Both teams made plays down the stretch, they just made one more than we did,” explained
UAlbany coach Will Brown, whose club endured a travel schedule that included a bus trip to
Washington, D.C. and two separate 2,500-mile airplane rides to Boise due to a snowstorm that
battered the east coast two days earlier. “It was a high-level game where both teams executed and
didn't panic in the situation. We had every opportunity to make excuses going into this game, but |
am proud of this team because they played with a purpose and were focused throughout.”
Jason Siggers and Lillis each had 12 points for the Great Danes, who were playing a
nationally-televised BracketBusters games for the second straight year. BSU’s Eric Lane had 16
points, including four 3-pointers. Coby Karl, the son of Denver Nuggets’ head coach George Karl,
was held to five points. However, the Broncos, who have won four straight and seven of their last
nine outings, overcame their top scorer’s off night by shooting 56.9 percent from the field and making
11-of-22 from three-point range.

Boston, Mass. — Sophomore Kamilah McShine’s school record-breaking victory in the
pentathlion highlighted the first day of competition for the UAlbany men’s and women’s track and field
teams on Friday at the America East Conference Indoor Championships, held at Boston University’s
Track & Tennis Center. The conference meet concludes on Saturday with finals in 27 events.
With five events completed, the men’s squad finished the opening day in first place with 50.5
points. UAlbany athletes took the top four spots in the long jump, led by sophomore Freddie Wills,
who won the event with a leap of 23-feet, 6-inches, and junior Felipe Reyes (Christian Brothers
Academy), whose jump of 23-feet, 3.5-inches, was good for second place.
The distance medley relay squad, consisting of freshman John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville),
sophomore Joe Greene, sophomore Joe Belokopitsky (Shaker) and junior Ricardo Estremera,
came in third place in a time of 9:55.62, breaking a 15-year-old school record of 9:57.66. Junior
David Parker (Niskayuna) finished fourth with a pole vault of 14-feet, 9-inches, and is the first-day
leader in the heptathlon with four of the seven events completed. Sophomore Jean Juste came in
first place in the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries in 7.58 seconds, while Greene finished first in the 400-
meter preliminaries in 47.68 seconds.
The UAlbany women ended the opening day third overall with 47 points, 11 behind first-place
Boston U. McShine finished first in three of the five events in the pentathlon, registering a school-
@ecord 3,594 points and qualifying for March’s ECAC meet. She is also a favorite to win the 55-meter
hurdles after finishing first in today’s preliminaries in a career-best time of 8.14 seconds. She qualified
for the ECACs in that event as well.
After a third-place finish last season, senior Alyssa Lotmore (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn)
won the 5000-meters in a time of 16:59.82, nearly 24 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Sophomore Jenn Gurrant finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 9.75-inches. Senior
Adanna Andrews had the best time in the 500-meter preliminaries in 1:15.77.

UALBANY TIED FOR FIRST IN AMERICA EAST MEN’S LACROSSE PRESEASON POLL
Boston, Mass. — UAlbany, winners of three of the last four league crowns, and defending conference champion
UMBC have each received a total of 32 points to share the top spot in the America East Conference Men’s
Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Great Danes earned three first-place votes, while the Retrievers
garnered two.
The Great Danes, who open their schedule on Saturday, Feb. 24 against sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins
on ESPNU, return all but one starter from last year’s 8-7 squad that made its fifth consecutive appearance in
the America East tournament championship final. UAlbany has five scorers returning with 20-plus points from
an offense that was ranked third nationally at 11.73 goals per game. Frank Resetarits and Merrick
Thomson, a pair of three-time all-conference selections, lead that group. Resetarits, the nation’s leading
scorer, totaled 45 goals and 19 assists. Thomson, who is first among active NCAA scorers with 175 career
points, had 31 goals and 11 assists.
Head coach Scott Marr, who is in his seventh season, also returns first-team all-conference
goalkeeper Brett Queener. The senior netminder led the league in saves per game (12.13) and posted a .547
save percentage. Craig McDonald, a second-team All-America East defenseman, was third on the team in
ground balls (38). All-Conference performers Jordan Levine (first team) and Matthew Green (second team)
are active in the midfield. Levine, who was eighth among the Division | leaders with 88 ground balls, had 14
goals and 13 assists.

UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM CHOSEN FIFTH IN AMERICA EAST COACHES’ POLL
Boston, Mass. — In a preseason poll of America East Conference head coaches, the UAlbany women’s
lacrosse team was picked to finish fifth among seven lacrosse-playing schools. New Hampshire was chosen to
win the league, while Boston University was voted second.
The Great Danes finished 8-8 overall last season, including a 2-4 conference record. The eight wins
tied the program's Division | record. Leading the list of returnees this season are senior midfielders Kate
Fontana and Katelyn Primomo and goalkeeper Jen Daly, a first-team All-America East selection. Fontana
recorded 34 goals and 10 assists, and was ranked first nationally in ground balls (4.94 pg) and second in
caused turnovers (3.13 pg). She enters her final season ranked fifth on the school’s all-time scoring list with
146 points (118 goals, 28 assists). Daly is the school’s career saves leader with 545, after posting a 9.39 goals
against average and a .530 save percentage one year ago. Primomo, a 16-game starter, had 24 ground balls
and 16 caused turnovers for a defensive unit that allowed 9.5 goals per game.
Second-year head coach Lindsey Hart will rely on All-America East second-team attacker Sarah
Spillett, a senior who led the Great Danes in scoring with 45 points (24 goals, 21 assists). Her assist total
matched the fourth-best single-season mark in the program’s history. Sophomore midfielder Julie Bush, an
America East all-rookie honoree in 2006, added 25 goals and 16 assists. Other key veterans include senior
midfielder Krissy Rajczak (29 goals, 13 assist) and junior midfielder Brittany Scott (9 goals, 5 assists).
The Great Danes open their season on Monday, Feb. 19 against 19th-ranked Vanderbilt. UAlbany will

UALBANY COMPETES AT AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Albany, N.Y. — The University at Albany men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at the
America East Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 16-17 at Boston University’s Track and
Tennis Center. The UAlbany men have won three of the last four conference indoor titles, while the
women seek their first crown after finishing second one year ago.
Sophomore Pat Weider looks to repeat as the men’s 200-meter champion after setting a
school record with a time 21.47 seconds at last weekend’s Tyson Invitational in Arkansas. Joe
Greene, who was second in the 400m dash last year, owns the best time among conference
competitors this season after sprinting 47.60 seconds. Freddie Wills, third in the high jump at the
2006 championship, and Mike McCadney, who set a school record in the triple jump with a mark of
49-feet, 10.25-inches, are also in the hunt for titles.
John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville), Felipe Reyes (Christian Brothers Academy) and David
Parker (Niskayuna) enter the America East meet with the top performances in their respective events
this winter. Moore ran 1:50.85 in the 800-meter run at Boston U.’s Terrier Invitational, while Reyes
has leaped 23-feet, 8.25-inches in the long jump. Parker posted a first-place finish in the heptathlon
at the Syracuse Invitational with 4,833 points.
In the women’s championship, the Great Danes have placed second in the team standings in

BOSTON U. RALLIES IN FINAL EIGHT MINUTES TO UPEND UALBANY IN A-EAST PLAY
Albany, N.Y. — Freshman Aly Hinton scored 20 points and Kasey Devine added 14 off the bench as
Boston University rallied for a 64-53 America East Conference victory over UAlbany on Wednesday
evening at SEFCU Arena.
Boston U. (13-12, AE 5-7) trailed 49-44 with 8:18 remaining, but then scored 11 of the game’s
next 13 points to take control. Hinton, a 6-foot-1 freshman, made a conventional three-point play
when she was fouled on a basket in the lane, before tying the contest at 49 apiece on a baseline
jumper. Hinton, who made 7-of-12 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds, would later put her
team ahead for good, 53-51, on a pair of free throws.
The Terriers, who have won 11 of 13 meetings in this series, still led 55-53 with three minutes
left, but pulled away by scoring the contest’s final nine points. Katie Meinhardt drilled a three-point
field goal from the top of the arc to ignite that stretch. Devine, a 6’3” junior who had 12 second-half
points, followed with a pair of foul shots before Hinton delivered in the lane.
UAlbany (7-18, AE 3-9) built a 29-18 lead in the first half behind the play of junior forward
Kristin Higy, who recorded her third career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Great
Danes, who settled for a 29-24 halftime lead, would push out to another 11-point lead with 14:46
remaining. Sherri Mikus, who had 19 points, nailed a 14-foot jumper and sank two foul shots for a 41-
30 cushion.
r “The press slowed us down and we rushed some shots,” explained Mikus, who canned 7-of-14
from the floor. “We were giving up too many easy shots at the other end. We were better executing
against the zone defense which we have been struggling with all season. We need to put it all
together.”
Gia Sanders added eight points and eight rebounds for the Great Danes, who suffered their
seventh consecutive loss. The Terriers, who have won three of their last four, shot 52.2 percent from
the field in the final period on 12-of-23 attempts.

DEFENDING A-EAST SOFTBALL CHAMPION UALBANY PICKED SECOND IN COACHES’ POLL
Boston, Mass. — UAlbany, the defending America East Conference Champion, was picked to finish
second in the league, according to a vote of the conference’s head coaches. Boston U. earned five
first-place votes to earn the top spot in the poll, as released by the conference office on Wednesday.
The Great Danes, who finished 36-13-1 overall last season, posted a 14-6 conference record
en route to earning their second-straight conference title and NCAA Tournament berth. The team
graduated four all-conference players last spring, but returns America East pitcher of the year Casey
Halloran, who boasted a 1.51 ERA and a school-record 252 strikeouts.
Junior left fielder Amber Maisonet, the conference’s rookie of the year in 2005 and an all-
conference first-team member last season, also returns to the diamond. Maisonet batted .333 with 53
hits and 25 stolen bases. Senior infielder Kelly Ogden, who finished with 43 hits, including a team-
high 12 doubles, is working her way up several career records charts. Ogden is already the career
record leader in RBI (112) and home runs (16) and Is fourth in career hits (145) and runs scored (95).
She also stands third on the career doubles chart (29).
Sophomore outfielder Meagan Butsch, who started 46 games for UAlbany primarily in right
field last season, hit .243 in her freshman campaign en route to earning all-rookie honors. She tallied
2 hits, five doubles and one triple to go along with her 11 RBI last season.
UAlbany is led by head coach Chris Cannata, who Is entering her 13th season as the
winningest head coach in the history of the UAlbany softball program. She has earned 342 career
victories with the Great Danes and has coached over 20 all-conference players in her tenure.
The Great Danes begin their 2007 campaign with a doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at
Stetson. The team will kick off play at home against crosstown-rival Siena on Tuesday, March 23 with

The Great Danes finished 20-30 last season, the fifth consecutive campaign with 20 or more

The team returns 19 letterwinners from last season, including first-team all-America East
@aicher Tom Hill, wno was second in the conference with a .372 average in 2006. Hill was recently
selected to this season’s Wallace Watch list for the national player of the year. Also returning are
senior third baseman Steve Wyland and sophomore shortstop Sean Donovan, both of whom were
named to the conference’s second team.
On the mound, second-team all-conference righthander Sean Gregory, who went 2-0 with a
3.06 ERA in 14 appearances last season, along with junior transfer David Noble and junior Casey
Walsh, will lead the starting rotation. Senior Alexander Beaulieu, who led the America East with five
saves last season, will be the team’s stopper out of the bullpen.

Boston, Mass. - University at Albany's Jessica Ortman has been selected the America East
Conference's women's track performer of the week, while sophomore Jenn Gurrant was named the
women's field performer of the week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Ortman, a sophomore, set a school record as she finished fourth in the championship division
mile run at Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational. She posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:52.35 to break
Alyssa Lotmore’s previous UAlbany standard of 4:53.29 set in 2004. Ortman also won the 800-meter
run to highlight her team’s performance on the second day of the meet as she finished first in the
championship division with a time of 2:08.12. She became second UAlbany athlete to win an event at
the Tyson Invitational defeating athletes from Baylor, Florida and Georgia. A native of Williamsville;.'
N.Y., Ortman was named the women's track performer of the week for the third time this season.
In a triangular with Syracuse and Binghamton on Feb. 9, Gurrant qualified for the ECAC
championships in March by winning the triple jump with a leap of 40-feet, 0.75-inches. Gurrant was
just three-quarters of an inch off the school record mark. She also ran the third leg on the first-place
4x400-meter relay that hit the tape in 3:55.11.

Baltimore, Md. — Senior guard Brittnie Hughes scored 14 points to pace three players in double
figures as UMBC snapped a four-game losing streak in a 66-41 America East Conference victory
over UAlbany on Saturday evening at Retriever Activities Center.
UMBC (11-13, AE 4-7) jumped out a 17-6 lead in the opening 10 minutes of play. Amanda

The Retrievers, who held the visitors to 25.5-percent shooing on 12 of 47 attempts, moved out
to a 32-15 advantage with 2:15 remaining in the period. Hughes, who had 12 first-half points, made a

UAlbany (7-17, AE 3-8) trailed 34-22 at halftime, but then fell behind by as much as 20 points
early in the second half. The Great Danes, who have dropped six consecutive outings, missed their

“We always seem to get ourselves into a hole that we can't get out of because we don't come
out hard enough,” offered UAlbany forward Kristin Higy, whose squad won the first meeting this
season between the teams, a 70-51 decision on Jan. 10. “We need to get over the fear we have of

JESSICA ORTMAN WINS 800-METER RUN AT ARKANSAS’ TYSON INVITATIONAL
Fayetteville, Ark. — University at Albany's Jessica Ortman won the 800-meter run in the women’s
championship division to highlight her team’s performance on the second day of competition at the
2007 Tyson Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track
Complex.
Ortman, a sophomore who set the school record in the mile run on Friday and finished fourth,
crossed the finish line in 2:08.12 and was 45-hundredath of a second better than second-place finisher
Lauren Hagans, of Baylor University. Ortman established UAlbany’s 800m standard (2:07.34) at the
New Balance Collegiate Invitational last weekend. She became the second UAlbany athlete to win
an event at the Tyson Invitational as Gered Burns captured the 800-meter run last year.
Freshman John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville) placed third in the men’s 800-meter championship
race with a time of 1:52.98. Michigan’s Andrew Ellerton (1:49.92) was first, while Florida’s Eric
Alberter (1:50.71) took second. Moore was second at the 2006 New York State outdoor high school
championship meet.
In other events, Pat Weider was first in his heat and 14th overall in the 200-meter dash ina
school-record 21.47 seconds. Weider, who eclipsed his own UAlbany mark, also ran the lead-off leg

JESSICA ORTMAN SETS SCHOOL RECORD IN MILE RUN AT TYSON INVITATIONAL
Fayetteville, Ark. — University at Albany’s Jessica Ortman set a school record as she finished fourth in
the women’s college mile run at the 2007 Tyson Invitational on Friday afternoon. The two-day track &
field meet is being held at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Complex.
Ortman posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:52.35 to break Alyssa Lotmore’s previous
standard of 4:53.29 set in 2004. Northern Arizona’s Katja Rosenplaenter won the mile in 4:50.84.
Caldwell Ashley of UCLA, was second in 4:51.29, while Duke’s Maddie McKeever placed third in
4:61.62. Ortman, a sophomore, established UAlbany’s 800-meter mark one week ago at the New
Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City.
Joe Greene ran his fastest time of the year in the 400-meter dash to finish third in his heat and
15th overall. Greene’s time of 47.60 seconds qualifies him for the |C4A championships in March.

UALBANY MEN WIN TRIANGULAR MEET WITH SYRACUSE AND BINGHAMTON
@vesiai N.Y. — Sophomore Michael McCadney won the long jump and was one of seven individual
winners in leading the UAlbany men’s indoor track & field team to victory in a triangular meet with
Binghamton and Syracuse on Friday evening at the Events Center. McCadney, who established a
school record in the triple jump last weekend, posted an IC4A-qualifying mark of 23-feet, 6.75-inches.
Freddie Wills cleared the high jump bar at 6-feet, 7-inches and Felipe Reyes (Christian
Brothers Academy) went 46-1.25 in the triple jump to win their events. Jeffery Barnes (Albany H.S.)
was first in the 200-meter dash in 22.91 seconds. Other first-place finishers for UAlbany were
Raphael Jean-Baptiste (55-meter dash), Alan Nimblette (400), Ricardo Estremera (3,000) and the
4x400-meter relay squad.
In the women’s competition, sophomore Jenn Gurrant qualified for the ECAC championships in
March by winning the triple jump in 40-feet, 0.75-inches. Gurrant was just three-quarters of an inch
off the school mark. She also ran the third leg on the first-place 4x400-relay that hit the tape in
3:55.11. Other relay members were Anisha Andrews, Stacy Gregory (Colonie Central) and Adanna
Andrews. Kamilah McShine, who leaped 18-6 in the long jump, and Helene Anbiola, who ran 2:26.63
in the 800-meters, also recorded wins.

UALBANY WOMEN’S TENNIS EARNS FIRST WIN IN NON-LEAGUE MATCH
Albany, N.Y. — Junior Aimee Kern won in straight sets at first singles as UAlbany swept
Providence, 7-0, in a non-league women’s tennis action at Bubble on Friday afternoon. The Great
Danes provided head coach Elissa Kinard with her first-ever win.
UAlbany won two doubles matches starting with Kern and Christina Suarez beating Ashley
Rissolo and Alisson Cohen, in an 8-4 pro-set. Sophomore Kim Weltman teamed with Kimberly
Westcott to beat Meghan Gilroy and Kerry Schulz, 8-2, and secure the point.
Kern won her No.1 singles match by defeating Rissolo, 6-1, 6-0. She was followed by Suarez
over Gilroy at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2 and Weltman over Schulz at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. Hall defeated Cohen ina
third set tiebreaker, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6. Westcott won 6-2, 6-0 over Hawkins-Hodgson at No. 5 and Patel
posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cusack at No. 6 to complete the Great Danes sweep.

UALBANY DEFEATS MAINE, 71-55, FOR EIGHTH STRAIGHT VICTORY
Orono, Maine - Jamar Wilson scored 24 points in leading UAlbany to a 71-55 America East
Conference victory over Maine on Wednesday evening at Alfond Sports Arena. The Great Danes
reached the win column for eighth straight time and tied the program's Division | record for
consecutive victories.
UAlbany (18-7, AE 11-2) led 49-44 with 7:38 remaining, but then broke free with 11
unanswered. Freshman center Brett Gifford started that outburst by scoring off an offensive
rebound. Brian Lillis, who had 10 points and seven rebounds, followed with a baseline jumper,
before Wilson converted a fastbreak layup. Lillis finished off that decisive stretch with a pair of free
throws.
Maine (11-13, AE 6-6) trailed 42-30 in the second half, but then regrouped with eight straight
points. Kevin Reed, a two-time all-conference standout who had 12 points and eight rebounds, drilled
a three-pointer before Philippe Tchekane Bofia scored in the lane to close the gap to 42-38.
The Great Danes, who have won 10 of their last 11 outings, stalled the comeback attempt
when Wilson tallied five straight markers. He made a conventional three-point play by being fouled as
he split two defenders on a driving layup. Brent Wilson posted his second career double-double with
14 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Bruff led the Black Bears with 13 points, while Junior Bernal had

® "We did a good job defensively against the hottest team in the league. Maine is difficult to
guard because they can score in many ways. We were passive for awhile on offense because they
were switching, UAlbany coach Will Brown said. “But then we started attacking and Jamar (Wilson)
became aggressive and got into the flow."
UAlbany trailed 20-18 in the opening period, but then went on an 11-2 run over the next five
minutes. Jamar Wilson, who had 12 first-half points, put his team in front with a three-point field goal.
Wilson added a pair of baskets, including a slam dunk in transition. Brent Wilson completed that
stretch with a 12-foot bank shot. The Great Danes, who limited the home team to 33-percent shooting
in the half, led 37-25 at the break.
“It is easier to score when you are playing defense. | feel more mobile and felt better now that |
do not have to wear a knee brace," added Jamar Wilson, who is now averaging 21.6 points in eight
career games against Maine.
Brent Wilson said, "We came out of the gate terrible. They outplayed us the first ten minutes.
But then we got our legs and our energy. We have a big game coming up on Sunday (against
Vermont), so we need to correct starting slow by the time we play them."
The Great Danes face Vermont on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. in a matchup of the conference’s
top two teams.

UALBANY FALLS TO MAINE, 71-63, INAMERICA EAST MATCHUP
Orono, Maine — Senior guard Ashley Underwood scored a career-high 30 points to lead
Maine to a 71-63 win over UAlbany in America East Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at
Alfond Arena.
Maine (11-10, 5-5 AE) led 42-36 at halftime, but UAlbany (7-16, 3-7 AE) narrowed the lead to
four points, 44-40, with 16:57 to play after a layup by Kristin Higy. It was as close as the Great
Danes would get, as the Black Bears then went on a 10-2 run to build a 54-42 lead, capped off by
seven consecutive points by Bracey Barker. The Black Bears led by eight points or more for the rest
of the game.
"We didn't do what we wanted to do on defense,” said UAlbany assistant coach Melissia
Patterson, who is running the team while head coach Trina Patterson is away after the birth of her
third child. “They are very deep in the post and we are a little undersized. We did better on
Underwood in the second, but she is a scorer - she's going to get points."
After a close first half that saw the game tied eight times, Maine took a six-point halftime lead
behind 20 points from Underwood, who went 4-of-4 from three-point range and 6-of-6 from the free-
throw line. The two teams exchanged threes late in the half, as Britney McGee hit two in less than a
minute, sandwiched around one by Underwood. Mcgee's second of the stretch tied the game at 32-32
Quit 3:25 on the clock. The Black Bears then outscored UAlbany 10-4 to end the half.
Three Great Danes scored in double figures. Higy, UAlbany’s America East player of the
game, had 14 points and six rebounds. Charity lromuanya added 10 points, tying her season-high,
to go along with two rebounds, while McGee netted 10 points. For the Black Bears, Barker had 21
points, 11 rebounds and six assists and was named Maine’s player of the game.

UALBANY WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT OVER HARTFORD, 61-55
West Hartford, Conn. — Jason Siggers scored 18 points as UAlbany slowly pulled away in the second
half for a 61-55 America East Conference victory over Hartford on Monday evening at Chase Arena.
The Great Danes won for the seventh straight time, the second longest streak in the program's
Division | history.
UAlbany (17-7, AE 10-2) led 42-40 with 5:06 remaining, but then ran off eight unanswered.
Jimmie Covington started the outburst with a steal and two free throws. Brian Lillis, who had all 10 of
his points in the final half, came up with another theft that led to two foul shots and added a driving
layup from the top of the key. Brian Connelly stole another pass and later fed Siggers for a 50-40
advantage.
"Brian Connelly and | know we have to create energy as defensive stoppers,” said Lillis. “We
knew we had to play defense and execute on offense. We had to find a way to take control (of the
game) and make it happen. You get it in trouble when you wait for it to happen."
Hartford (9-15, AE 3-8) would make the game a foul-shooting contest over the last one minute
and thirty seconds. The Hawks, who have now lost eight in a row and had a short bench due to a
conference suspension, got as close as 58-53 in the stretch on a layup by freshman Joe Zeglinski,
who had 14 points. The Great Danes stayed ahead by scoring their final 11 points from the charity
stripe.
© “It was not a work of art. Hartford deserves all the credit,” said UAlbany head coach Will
Brown. “They worked the clock down and lulled us to sleep. But our team responds with its back
against the wall. We think we will win close games."
UAlbany took an 18-12 lead midway through the opening period when Jon lati buried a three-
point field from the top of the arc. The Great Danes still led 24-19 with 4:40 left in the period, but then
went scoreless the rest of the way. The Hawks, who employed a ball-control offense that worked the
shot clock, closed the gap by halftime. Bo Taylor, a 6-foot-5 senior, netted 11 first-half points,
including a basket with 37 seconds left.
Brent Wilson was the third UAlbany player in double figures with 10 points. The Great Danes,
who have won nine of their last 10 games, posted the team's seventh road win of the season. Taylor
had 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting for the Hawks, who went 0-for-11 from the three-point arc to end a
string of 461 consecutive games in which they had made at least one long-range shot.

ORTMAN SETS SCHOOL RECORD IN 800-METERS AT COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
New York, N.Y. — Sophomore Jessica Ortman set a school record in the championship of the 800-
meters, finishing second overall, as members of the UAlbany track and field team competed in the
second and final day of the Collegiate Invitational at the New York Armory on Saturday. 106 men's
teams and 104 women's squads participated in the meet. Team scores were not recorded.
Ortman’s time of 2:07.34 broke her own school record of 2:09.08, set earlier this season. Her
time also met the NCAA's provisional standard and qualified her for March’s ECAC meet. In women’s
track events, senior Sarah Charles finished second in the college division of the triple jump with an
ECAC-qualifying leap of 40-feet, 10.5-inches, also a new UAlbany mark.
On the men’s side, in his first meet for the Great Danes, sophomore Michael McCadney
shattered the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 49-feet, 10-inches, placing sixth overall in
the championship division and qualifying for the IC4A meet. Senior Junior Burnett finished ninth
overall in the 60-meter finals in 6.88 seconds, after breaking the 60-meter school record in
yesterday's qualifying race with a time of 6.77 seconds. The men’s 4x400 relay squad also finished
tenth in the championship race.
Along with junior Corinna Hengen’s record-setting pole vault of 11-feet, 3.75-meters
yesterday, five school records were broken in the UAlbany squad’s two days at the meet.
The Great Danes return to action next weekend, with athletes competing at the Binghamton tri-

DAVID PARKER VICTORIOUS IN HEPTATHLON AT SYRACUSE INVITATIONAL
@ syracuse, N.Y. — Junior David Parker (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) won the heptathlon as
several other members of the UAlbany men’s and women's track and field teams participated at the
two-day Syracuse Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
After UAlbany athletes won three events on Friday, Parker qualified for March’s IC4A meet by
earning 4,833 points in the heptathlon. His pole vault of 14-feet, 11-inches was a season-best, while
his time of 8.21 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles was a personal-best.
In Saturday's only other event, sophomore Kamilah McShine had a third-place finish in the
pentathlon, including a victory in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35 seconds.

UALBANY HOLDS OFF BINGHAMTON, 65-62, FOR SIXTH CONSECUTIVE WIN
Albany, N.Y. — Jamar Wilson scored 16 points to pace four players in double figures as UAlbany held
off Binghamton, 65-62, in America East Conference play for its sixth straight win on Saturday evening
before a capacity crowd of 4,538 at SEFCU Arena.
Binghamton (10-13, AE 3-8) took a 44-39 lead with seven consecutive points midway through
the final period. Lazar Trifunovic, a 6-foot-8 freshman who had 15 of his 22 points after halftime, hit a
jump hook off the dribble and a bank shot in the lane to ignite the run. Steve Proctor, who had 12
points, later converted a layup after Troy Hailey’s steal to complete that stretch.
UAlbany (16-7, AE 9-2) responded with 12 of the game’s next 14 points to go ahead for good.
Jon lati, who scored 14 off the bench, drew his team even at 46 apiece on a three-point field goal
from the right corner. Brent Wilson finished off a fastbreak following a steal before Jamar Wilson
buried a three-pointer from the top of the arc for a 51-46 advantage with 8:12 remaining.
The Great Danes, who dropped the first meeting of the season between these teams on Jan.
6, led by as much as six on three occasions over the next six minutes, but could never shake the
visitors. Trifunovic, wno made 8-of-17 from the field and added six rebounds and five assists, hit a
jump hook on the right baseline to close the gap to 63-61 with 47 seconds left. After Brian Connelly
connected in the lane from a driving Jason Siggers, Binghamton’s Mike Gordon split a pair of free
throws. The Bearcats would get an opportunity to tie the contest on their last possession, but
Gordon's long-range jumper was off the mark with four seconds to play.
“We survived,” said UAlbany coach Will Brown, whose team was playing before the second
home sellout of the season on Big Purple Growl, the university’s winter homecoming. “It was a
tremendous environment and they (the fans) were our sixth man. Binghamton has as much talent as
anyone in this league and they give us fits. Trifunovic made some tough shots. We wanted him to
beat us one-on-one and stay home on their three-point shooters.”
In the opening half, UAlbany erased a 15-9 deficit with a run of 13 unanswered. lati, who had
11 points in the period, made two of his four 3-pointers in that stretch, plus converted a drive from the
left wing. The Great Danes, who shot 50 percent from the floor before the break, took a 31-26 lead to
the locker room.
Brent Wilson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds for the Great Danes, who have won
15 of their last 16 at home. Jason Siggers, who has scored in double figures in 10 of his last 11
outings, was the fourth UAlbany player in twin figures with 11. Gordon, who was making his 66th
consecutive start, totaled 15 points, five assists and three steals.
“These teams know each other well,” Brent Wilson offered. “You know it’s going to be a battle
every time. It was a game of runs and we just had to hang with it and play defense. Trifunovic is an
active four-man who is good off the bounce and tough to double. He is going to be a good player in
this conference.”

BINGHAMTON WOMEN DEFEAT UALBANY, 70-60, AT 10" ANNUAL BIG PURPLE GROWL
Albany, N.Y. — Binghamton’s Laine Kurpniece scored a career-high 22 points, including going
10-of-12 from the free throw line to lead the Bearcats to a 70-60 win over UAlbany at the Great
Danes’ 10th Annual Big Purple Growl on Saturday evening.
Binghamton (8-14, AE 4-5) used the momentum from a one-point halftime lead to take a five-
point lead, 43-38, two minutes into the second half on back-to-back three pointers by Rebecka
Lindgren. The Bearcats would then convert 6-of-6 free throw shots to build a nine-point lead, 49-40,
at the 13:37 mark.
UAlbany (7-15, AE 3-6) would cut the lead back to five, 53-48, on a layup by Kristin Higy with
just over nine minutes remaning, but it would be as close as the Great Danes would get, as
Binghamton would take advantage of strong free throw shooting down the line, going 6-for-6 in the
final five minutes of play.
UAlbany led by as many as nine in the first half, which was a battle of runs for both teams. The
Great Danes posted a 10-2 run to open the game, followed by a 7-0 stretch by Binghamton to cut the
lead to 10-9 at the 14:00 mark. UAlbany then posted a 9-3 spurt to get ahead 19-12 at 9:40. The
Bearcats would not give in, however, outscoring the Great Danes 7-1 over a three minute span
leading up to halftime.
The two teams fought for the halftime lead in the closing seconds, with Juta Jahilo hitting a
@umeshot with 44 seconds remaining to give Binghamton a one-point lead, 33-32. Amanda Ward
reclaimed the advantage for UAlbany, converting a layup of her own with 13 seconds on the clock,
but Lindgren knocked down a jumper with four ticks left to give the Bearcats a 35-34 lead going into
the locker room.
“We gave up too many offensive rebounds and Binghamton got to the free throw line way too
much,” said UAlbany coach Melissia Patterson, whose team was outrebounded 41-34 and gave up
22 team fouls. “Kurpniece caused us problems inside, and we just didn’t make the shots we needed
in the second half.”
Ward led the Great Danes with 16 points, while Higy recorded 13 points to go along with three
rebounds, four steals and an assist. Britney McGee added nine points while Charity lromuanya
chipped in with six points, six boards, five assists and a steal.
Lindgren added 17 points for Binghamton. Laura Sario scored 14, including going 4-of-4 from
the free throw line. Juta Jahilo added six points, while also grabbing a game-high nine rebounds for
the Bearcats.

REYES WINS LONG JUMP AS UALBANY TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES IN NEW YORK
New York, N.Y. — Junior Felipe Reyes (Rensselaer, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and
sophomore Freddie Wills finished first and third, respectively, in the college division of the long jump
as members of the UAlbany track and field team competed at the Collegiate Invitational in New York
City’s Armory on Friday afternoon. 106 men’s teams and 104 women’s squads participated in the
meet.
Reyes won the long jump with a leap of 23-feet, 0.5-inches, six inches further than the nearest
competitor. Wills had a jump of 22-feet, 5.75-inches. It was the second long jump victory for Reyes
this season.
In men’s track events, senior Junior Burnett finished tied for ninth in the 60-meter dash
preliminaries in 6.77 seconds, qualifying for Saturday’s finals. Freshman John Moore placed third in
the college division of the 800-meter run, registering a time of 1:53.71.
On the women’s side, senior Alyssa Lotmore (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) came in third in
the 5000-meter championship in 16:57.77, her fastest time in the event this season. Senior Anisha
Andrews finished 11th in the 500-meter dash in 1:15.58, a career-best. Junior Brenna Militello
finished second in a jump-off in the consolation division of the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 4.5-
inches, after tying for first place.
The Great Danes finish competition at the Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.

UALBANY EARNS VICTORIES IN THREE EVENTS AT SYRACUSE INVITATIONAL
Syracuse, N.Y. — Sophomore Kamilah McShine, junior Amy Morrison and senior Chase
Frazer won their respective events as members of the UAlbany track and field team competed at the
Syracuse Invitational, hosted by Syracuse University, on Friday evening.
McShine had a season-best time of 8.30 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles en route to winning
the event. Freshman Meghan Crowe clocked in at 9.30 seconds, a season-best and good for fourth
place. Morrison won the pole vault with a height of 9-feet, 10-inches, her first victory of the season
and tying for her best leap of the year.
Frazer won the long jump with a distance of 21-feet, 9.5-inches. Junior Anthony Basile and
freshman Danny Hu finished third and fourth in the event, respectively.
The Great Danes finish competition at the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday morning.

Athletic Director Pledges to Deliver Football Stadium for UAlbany
Athletic Program Success Also Highlighted as McElroy Receives Five-Year Extension
ALBANY, N.Y. (February 2, 2007) -- University at Albany Provost and Officer in Charge Susan
Herbst announced that Lee A. McElroy, vice president for athletic administration and director of
intercollegiate athletics, received a new five-year appointment running through 2011. McElroy, in
his seventh year in charge of university athletics, provides leadership for UAlbany’s NCAA Division
I 19-sport intercollegiate athletics program for men and women.
During McElroy’s tenure, UAlbany has won 18 conference championships and made NCAA
appearances in men's basketball, men's lacrosse, women's volleyball, softball and men's and women's
track and field. In 2004-05, the Great Danes were awarded the Commissioner's Cup as the America
East Conference's top athletic program. In 2005-2006, UAlbany’s NCAA academic progress rate
(APR) -- the formula NCAA member colleges and universities have adopted to improve academic
success and graduation of student athletes -- was above the 90th percentile for the third consecutive
year.
McElroy has also worked to renew the men's and women's basketball cross-town rivalry with
Siena College, led the development of a master plan to upgrade UAlbany’s athletic and recreational
complex, including plans to construct a new stadium for the university’s Division I-AA football
team. Fund-raising efforts for the University’s top non-academic project, which will also benefit the
Capital Region community, have been initiated.
McElroy was instrumental in securing a $2.75 million commitment from SEFCU to name the
university's Recreation and Convocation Center for a 10-year period. The facility, known as the
SEFCU Arena, is the home for UAlbany's men's and women's basketball teams.
“It is with great pleasure that I extend a new five-year appointment to Lee as the University
at Albany’s vice president for athletic administration and director of intercollegiate athletics,” said
Herbst, who also serves as UAlbany’s provost and executive vice president. “Dr. McElroy has been
instrumental in overseeing the academic and on-field success of our students, and we are happy he
will oversee the next phase of success for the UAlbany Great Danes.”
“The previous seven years have been successful due to the commitment and dedication of
student athletes, coaches and staff who achieved academic and athletic excellence while maintaining
the highest standards of integrity and public service,” said McElroy. “The future looks brighter due
to the support of the faculty, the student body, alumni and the Capital Region community.”

McElroy also worked at the University of Houston from 1981 to 1988 as an assistant director of
men’s and women’s sports and as an associate director of athletics, and for one year as the
director of athletics at The University of the District of Columbia. Before joining the Houston
staff, he taught in the public school systems of Santa Monica, California and Beaumont, Texas,
and was a high school principal in Beaumont.
Along with his duties for the NCAA, McElroy has testified before congressional committees on
issues in college athletics, such as gender equity, the welfare of the minority student-athlete, and
the academic/athletic balance. McElroy serves on the boards of the National Consortium of
Academics and Sports, Athletic Business magazine, and the National Minority Golf
Association. He is also a fellow at the Institute of Ethics and Sportsmanship at the University of
Rhode Island.
McElroy, who resides with his wife, Karen, in Slingerlands, earned his B.S. in political science
and history from UCLA in 1970. He later received a M.Ed. from the University of Southern
California, and an Ed.D. from the University of Houston.
