UALBANY’S LUKE SCHOEN TIES FOR SECOND IN NCAA EAST REGIONAL POLE VAULT

Tallahassee, Fla. — University at Albany’s Luke Schoen matched his own school record in tying for second
place in the men’s pole vault at the NCAA East Regional Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at
Florida State University’s Mike Long Track. Schoen advanced to the NCAA Division | Championships on June
11-14 in Des Moines, lowa. The top-five finishers in each event automatically qualify for nationals.

Schoen, a sophomore from Bohemia, N.Y., cleared the bar at 17-feet, 5-inches on his second attempt
to equal a program mark he established at the UAlbany Spring Classic three weeks ago. Schoen, who
finished15th in NCAA regional competition as freshman, won the America East Conference title and placed
second at the IC4A meet earlier this month.

Clemson’s Mitch Greeley won the pole vault by clearing 17-feet, 9-inches, a height the senior made on
his first approach. Schoen and Virginia Tech’s Yavgeniy Olhovsky tied for the runner-up position after each
vaulter missed three times at Greeley’s winning mark.

“It’s a sweet feeling to make nationals” said Schoen, whose father, Ken, played on UAlbany’s first three
varsity football teams from 1973-75. “Technically, it was one of my best days. | just got a new pole, and it
gave me some extra height. | just missed at 17-9, so | feel there’s more to come.”

Mike McCadney, a junior who was coming off victories at the America East and IC4A championships,
was not as fortunate in the men’s triple jump. McCadney went 50-feet, 3.25-inches on his first try, but then
fouled on his next two attempts. McCadney, who narrowly missed a trip to NCAA nationals last year, ended up
in 12th position.

In the women’s triple jump, Jenn Gurrant placed 17th after posting a distance of 40-feet, 8.75-inches on

@... second attempt. Gurrant, who was making her second consecutive regional appearance, took third at the
ECAC meet on May 19. Arina Gerasimova was 22nd in the same event with a leap of 39-6.50. Laura

Cummings, the America East champion in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, finished in 21st place with
a time of 11:00.17.

Albany, N.Y. — Pete Eichner went 3-for-3, including a double, and scored the game-tying run to lead UAlbany
to a 9-6 come-from-behind victory over Stony Brook in the season finale on Saturday, May 17 at Varsity Field.
The Great Danes won three of four games in the America East Conference series.

Stony Brook (31-24, AE 14-10) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Brian Witkowski and Chad
Marshall drew walks and Michael Stephan was hit by a pitch to open the frame. After a strikeout, Steven
Mazzurco laced a double down the left-field line to plate Witkowski and Marshall. Three batters later, Stephan
raced home on a wild pitch.

UAlbany (17-37-1, AE 10-14) took a 4-3 lead with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Sean Donovan
doubled down the right-field line and Gary Pitcheralle walked to start the frame. Brendan Rowland followed
with a single through the right side to knock in Donovan. Pitcheralle then scored as Rowland safely reached
second as the second baseman dropped a throw on an attempted double-play ball. After a successful sacrifice
bunt moved Rowland to third and Mike Konstanty to second, Rowland and Konstanty scored on consecutive
wild pitches.

The Seawolves regained the lead with a pair of runs in the second. Justin Echevarria walked and
Witkowski was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Following a UAlbany pitching change and a groundout, Rob
Dyer singled up the middle to drive in Echevarria and Witkowski.

The Great Danes, still trailing 5-4 in the seventh, plated three runs on three hits to regain the lead.
Eichner doubled and Tom Zink reached on an error to start the rally. Freshman Kyle Crean then pulled a 3-2
@ i down the right-field line to knock in Eichner from second and move Zink to third. Donovan walked to load

the bases. After Stony Brook reliever Devin Will recorded a strikeout, Rowland plated Zink with a single up the

game and induced a pop up to second base and a fly out to right field.

The Great Danes delivered the final score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth. Junior Dave
West singled and Eichner reached on an error by the pitcher during a sacrifice bunt. Following a fielder’s
choice by Zink in which West was forced at third, Eichner and Zink executed a double-steal with the catcher’s

baseball action on Saturday, May 10 at Varsity Field. The Great Danes took game one, 7-3, and won the
nightcap, 8-3.

UAlbany (14-35-1) opened a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning of the first game. Following lead-

the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but junior Sean Gregory induced a fly out to end the frame. Joe
Lucente opened the inning with an infield single. Following consecutive walks to load the bases, pinch-runner

LUKE SCHOEN SETS POLE VAULT RECORD AT 14TH ANNUAL UALBANY SPRING CLASSIC

Albany, N.Y. — Luke Schoen set a school and facility record in the men’s pole vault to highlight the list of
performances at the 14th annual UAlbany Spring Classic on Saturday afternoon at University Field. Schoen
cleared the bar at 17-feet, 5-inches, tying the 11th-best national collegiate mark this season.

Schoen, a sophomore, broke his own UAlbany standard and shattered a 13-year-old facility record on

his first attempt at that height. Ryan Dall established the previous record of 17-0.75 in 1995. Schoen had the

bar raised to 17-7, but missed all three attempts.

“It couldn't have gone better,” said Schoen, who will compete at the IC4A championship in Princeton,

N.J. next weekend. “l am set up pretty well to make the NCAAs. It was nice to get a personal best at home

and my parents were here to see it.”

All-America hurdler Joe Greene continued his way back from a leg injury suffered this past winter to
run a season-best 53.88 seconds in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. Jeffrey Barnes (Albany H.S.) and
Fred Casimo (Shaker) posted I|C4A-qualifying marks in the 100-meter dash and long jump, respectively.
Barnes, the current America East Conference 200-dash champion, sprinted 10.90 seconds. Casimo won the
long jump in 23-feet, 4.50-inches.

In the women’s competition, freshman Rebecca Kelly qualified for the USAT&F Junior National
Championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a time 1:03.12. Kelly's performance will take her to Columbus,
Ohio on June 20-22 where she will compete at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

“| never would have guessed that | would qualify for nationals,” explained Kelly, who began competing
in the hurdles as a high school senior and made the junior standard by two-hundredths of a second. “Kamilah

vicshine) got me off to a good start. | was so into it today. | hit most of my steps.”

In addition, Wilfredo de Jesus Elias won the hammer throw with an IC4A distance of 183-06. The
men’s 4x100 relay also improved its IC4A standing with a season-best 41.46 seconds. Raphael Jean-Baptiste,
Torshiro Jenkins, Drew Harrison and Barnes are relay members. Brenna Militello advanced to the ECAC

championship in the high jump. Her height of 5-7 is just three-quarters of an inch off her school record.

STONY BROOK DEFEATS UALBANY IN AMERICA EAST SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Albany, N.Y. — Alyssa Struzenberg fired a four-hit shutout to lead Stony Brook to a 4-0 win over UAlbany in the
championship round of the America East Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Albany Field.
The Seawolves, who won their first-ever conference title to secure an automatic NCAA berth, became the
fourth team in the last seven years to go undefeated in postseason tournament play.

Struzenberg, the championship’s most outstanding player, struck out five and walked three in posting
her ninth shutout of the season. She was aided by three double plays that wiped out scoring threats in the first
and third innings. Right fielder Ashley Westphal made a catch toward the line and fired to first base to get the
force on UAlbany’s Michelle Connors in the opening frame. Shortstop Vicki Kavitsky later dove to her right in
the hole to rob Andrianna Walraven of a base hit, before doubling off Jessica Bergin with a throw to second
base.

Stony Brook (33-21-1) broke through in the second when first baseman Marissa Fleury drilled the
second pitch she saw over the center field fence just to right of the 210-foot sign for her seventh home run of
the season. In the fourth, Kelsi Fanelli and Fleury both singled with one out. Catcher Jade Clare then blasted
a 1-2 pitch, a three-run homer that hit the scoreboard in left field.

“| thought the pitch before (Clare’s homer) was on the corner, and so did my catcher,” said UAlbany
right-hander Marissa Powell, who fell to 13-10 on the season. “I left the next one over the plate. Give her
kudos, she took the pitch given to her and hit it.”

Struzenberg, the America East pitcher of the year, also worked out of her own trouble in the fifth when

@ carve Tillman singled up the middle and Kat Smith walked to start the inning. But Struzenberg, who beat
UAlbany (34-17) for the second straight day after scattering seven hits in a 7-2 triumph in a winner’s bracket
game, regrouped by striking out two of the next three batters. The sophomore improved to 24-8 in the circle, a
school record for single-season victories.

“They came into the tournament hitting the ball well,” said UAlbany coach Chris Cannata, whose
program had captured the previous three conference championships. “We couldn't get a big hit when we
needed one. It’s part of the game. This was a good experience for a young team; we will be back.”

Leah Mcintosh, who threw a one-hit shutout in Friday’s elimination game against UMBC, was one of
three UAlbany players voted to the all-championship team. Amber Maisonet, a four-time all-conference
outfielder, and third baseman Meagan Butsch were also selected.

UALBANY ADVANCES TO AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AGAINST STONY BROOK

Albany, N.Y. — Leah Mcintosh tossed her ninth shutout of the season, a one-hitter, as UAlbany advanced to the
championship round of the America East Conference Tournament with a 4-0 victory over UMBC in an elimination
game on Friday afternoon at Albany Field. Stony Brook defeated the Great Danes, 7-2, in the winner’s bracket
earlier in the day to make the final for the first time in the program's history. The two teams will play for an
automatic NCAA berth.

UAlbany (34-16) broke up a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Nicole Kothe singled to right
field, before Amber Maisonet bunted to reach base safely. After Andrianna Walraven fouled out to the third
baseman, Michelle Connors worked a 1-2 count into a walk to load the bases. Meagan Butsch then ripped the first
pitch she saw up the middle to drive in a pair of runs. Freshman Gina Mason followed with a two-run single, as she
sent a 2-2 pitch to the left of the second-base bag and into centerfield.

Mcintosh, who improved to 17-6 on the year, struck out seven and walked three in registering her 20th
complete game. She worked out of a mild trouble in the third. Lynn Pronobis started the inning with an infield single
and moved to third base after two sacrifices, but the sophomore hurler fanned Julia Culotta on an inside pitch with
the count full. McIntosh, who struck out the side in the fourth and threw 90 pitches overall, had two runners aboard
in the seventh, but ended the uprising when Pronobis popped out to end the game.

“| felt more pressure in the first game (against Stony Brook),” said McIntosh, whose team is the tournament's
top seed after winning the regular-season title. “Il stepped it up (in the second game), but the catcher does all the
work. She makes all the calls. The first five innings were hectic, but then we scored some runs. It is easier to pitch
when you have more than a one- or two-run lead.”

© In the first game of the day, Molly Kestranek had three hits, including her third home run of the season, in
leading Stony Brook (32-21) to a 7-2 triumph. The Seawolves jumped on Mcintosh with three runs over the first two
innings. Marissa Fleury’s soft-liner over the shortstop’s right shoulder plated Vicki Kavitsky, who had reached on a
fielder’s choice and stole second base. Kestranek drove a 1-2 pitch over the left-field fence to begin the second.
Casey Jacobs, who followed in the order, would walk on five pitches and later score on Kavitsky’s sacrifice fly to
right field.

The Seawolves, who upended second-seed Boston University, 3-0, in Thursday’s opening round, built a 6-0
lead after fourth innings against reliever Marissa Powell. In the third, Kestranek singled up the middle with two outs.
She later came across on Kelly Oberto’s line drive over the second baseman’s head. Crista Cerrone knocked in
another run by slapping an 0-2 pitch the other way over the shortstop’s glove. Kelsi Fanelli led off the fourth with her
eighth homer of the year over the 210-sign in centerfield.

UAlbany broke through against Stony Brook’s Alyssa Struzenberg, the conference’s pitcher of the year, in
the fifth. Maisonet, who went 3-for-4 at the plate in the first contest, singled and scored on Michelle Connors’ base
hit to left field. Maisonet added a RBI double in the sixth.

Struzenberg, who improved to 23-8 overall and has beaten UAlbany twice this spring, scattered seven hits
and struck out five in recording her 20th complete game. The sophomore right-hander has already established the
school’s single-season record for pitching wins.

“We had a little better attitude going into the second game,” offered UAlbany coach Chris Cannata, whose
Squad is in the championship final for the fourth consecutive year. “Leah had more speed and movement and she
had neither in the first game. It’s going to be tough to win twice tomorrow.”

UALBANY BLANKS UMBC, 4-0, INOPENING ROUND OF AMERICA EAST SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

Albany, N.Y. — Leah MclIntosh fired a two-hit shutout and struck out 12 batters in leading UAlbany to a 4-0
victory over UMBC in the opening round of the America East Conference Softball Championship on Thursday
afternoon at Albany Field. The Great Danes, who are the double-elimination tournament’s top seed, advanced
to Friday’s winner's bracket contest at 11:00 a.m.

McIntosh, a sophomore right-hander, was in complete control in upping her record to 16-5 in the circle.
She gave up Amanda Fefel’s lead-off single in the second and her one-out double down the left-field line in the
seventh. McIntosh, who recorded her eighth shutout of the season, has allowed two hits or less in six starting
assignments this season.

UAlbany (33-15) broke up a scoreless deadlock in the fourth with a two-out uprising. Meagan Butsch
walked in between a pair of fly outs, before right fielder Jessica Bergin lined a single into the left-field gap.
UMBC center fielder Lynn Pronobis was unable to come up the ball, allowing it to roll all the way to fence, and
Butsch came around to score. Leanne Tillman followed with an RBI single up the middle to provide her team
with a two-run advantage.

The Great Danes, who won the conference’s regular-season title with a three-game sweep last
weekend, tacked on two runs in the fifth. Amber Maisonet laid a bunt down the third-base line for a base hit,
before shortstop Andrianna Walraven walked on a 3-2 pitch. Butsch was hit by a pitch to load the bases with
two outs. Freshman Gina Mason then went the opposite way with a single near the right-field line, aided by a
northwest wind, that scored a pair of base runners.
© “The first game (of a tournament) is the most important,” said UAlbany coach Chris Cannata, whose

program has produced 30 or more wins in seven consecutive seasons. “You don’t want to play all day
tomorrow. It was good to get the nerves out.”

McIntosh, who struck out the side in the first and second innings and threw 84 pitches in recording her
20th complete-game effort of the season, finished off UMBC (24-28) with two strikeouts to end the game
following Fefel’s double. She sent down third baseman Emily Thompson on a 1-2 pitch and then got left fielder
Lauren Brummell swinging.

“Everything was working and this is the time that it needs to work,” commented Mcintosh, a first-team
all-conference selection who has registered 12 or more strikeouts against six opponents this spring. “I just
went out and hoped for the best. When you get four runs and your hitters are hitting, it makes you feel

comfortable.”

LE MOYNE RALLIES FOR 15-8 WIN OVER UALBANY IN NON-CONFERENCE BASEBALL ACTION

Albany, N.Y. — Chris Haynes smacked a three-run homer in the eighth inning to Le Moyne to a 15-8 come-
from-behind win over UAlbany in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday, May 6 at Varsity Field.

UAlbany (12-35-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of home runs. Sophomore
Brendan Rowland followed a walk to Dave West with a two-run shot down the left field line. Following
consecutive walks to Mike Konstanty and Ryan Gugel, junior Gary Pitcheralle drilled a three-run blast to right
center for his fifth homer of the season. Le Moyne matched the score with five runs over the next two innings.
Haynes singled and Corey O’Neill was hit by a pitch with one out in the second. After a wild pitch, Sean Paino
doubled down the left field line to plate Haynes and O’Neill. Matt Nandin opened the third by getting hit by a
pitch. Sophomore Chris Edmondson followed with a two-run homer down the right field line. Two batters later,
Robby Perez singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. O’Neill followed an out with a run-scoring single
to left center to drive in Perez.

The Great Danes regained the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs on two hits. Rowland
opened inning with a walk and Konstanty followed with a double off of third base. Gugel plated Rowland with a
groundout and Pitcheralle singled to shortstop to drive in Konstanty. In the fourth, Sean Donovan led off with a
single and came around to score on a single up the middle by Gugel following an infield error. The Dolphins
got two runs back in the fifth on two hits. Perez opened the frame with a blast to right center to cut the
Dolphins’ gap to 8-6. After Haynes walked and O’Neill singled, Paino laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the

e”" over. Aaron DiFruscio then registered a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to drive in Haynes.

Le Moyne (25-20), the MAAC regular season and tournament champions last season, blew the game
open in the top of the eighth with eight runs on six hits. Phil St. Amant started the rally with one-out single to
center. Perez then walked to knock UAlbany reliever Chris Ott out of the contest. Haynes then greeted Sean
Gregory by blasting the first pitch over the fence in right center. O’Neill followed by slamming a 2-0 pitch down
the right field line. After Paino was hit by a pitch, Alex Del Valle singled to center on a hit-and-run and an errant
throw allowed him to move to third and Paino to score. Stephen Crawford then tripled to the wall in left center
to drive in Del Valle. After a UAlbany pitching change, Nandin plated Crawford with a single to right field. With
the base loaded following consecutive walks, Nandin raced home on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.

Chris Ott suffered his first loss of the season for the Great Danes, tossing 1.1 innings, while allowing
two runs. Tom McDermott picked up win by pitching three scoreless innings, with five strikeouts, out of the

bullpen for the Dolphins. The Great Danes return to action on Friday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Varsity Field

UMBC DOWNS UALBANY, 15-8, TO WIN AMERICA EAST BASEBALL WEEKEND SERIES

Baltimore, Md. — Joe Fowler hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to lead UMBC to a 15-8 win over UAlbany in
America East baseball action on Sunday, May 4 at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC. The Retrievers took
three of four games during the weekend series.

UMBC (19-24, AE 11-9) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening inning. Will Delawter doubled to left
center to plate Scott Peddicord, who reached on a single, with the first run. Shawn Retz followed with a two-run
single to right center to drive in Delawter and Fowler, who walked to get on base. The Great Danes responded
with four runs over the next two innings. Junior Gary Pitcheralle started the scoring with a two-run blast to left
field, his fourth home run of the season, to drive in classmate Ryan Gugel, who was hit by a pitch. In the third,
junior Dave West connected for a solo homer to left center with one out. After consecutive hits by sophomore
Brendan Rowland and Mike Konstanty, Gugel grounded out to knock in Rowland.

The Retrievers regained the lead in their half of the fourth inning. Tom Meaney and Steve Russo
opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Meaney scored on a groundout and Russo
crossed home plate on a wild pitch. Konstanty put the Great Danes back in front, 6-5, in the fifth inning with a
two-run shot to left center to tie the program’s single-season record with 12 home runs.

UMBC blew the game open in the sixth inning on Fowler’s grand slam to center field. The Retrievers
loaded the bases on a double by Russo, a walk to Rich Conlon and an infield single by Brad Brainer. Following
a UAlbany pitching change and a strikeout, Fowler gave the Retrievers a 9-6 lead. In the seventh inning,
UMBC tacked on five runs on six hits. Wink Nolan singled and Meaney doubled to open the frame. Russo then

@’ out to right field to plate Nolan and Conlon followed with a run-scoring single to drive in Meaney. Following

a strikeout, Peddicord doubled in Conlon to give UMBC a 12-6 lead. Fowler and Delawter recorded

Danes loaded the bases as Tom Zink was hit by a pitch and Pete Eichner and Sean Donovan singled. UMBC’s
Austin Drewyer then uncorked a wild pitch to allow Zink to score. The Retrievers got the run back in their half

SOFTBALL DEFEATS BOSTON U., 3-0, TO CLAIM AMERICA EAST REGULAR-SEASON TITLE

Albany, N.Y. — Sophomore second baseman Michelle Connors drove a solo home run over the left-field fence
to lead UAlbany to a 3-0 win over Boston University in a showdown for first place in the America East
Conference standings on Sunday afternoon at Albany Field. UAlbany’s victory completed a three-game sweep
of the Terriers and clinched the conference’s regular-season title. The Great Danes, who finished 32-15 overall
and 16-5 in league play, will be the top seed for this week’s America East postseason tournament.

UAlbany scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early lead. Senior first baseman
Leanne Tillman led off with a single to right field and was replaced on the base path by Tara Dalton. Right
fielder Jess Bergin reached on a Boston U. error, and both runners advanced an extra base on the play.
Catcher Kat Smith then hit a ground ball to the shortstop, but Dalton beat the throw to the plate and Bergin
moved up to third on the fielders’ choice. Center fielder Nicole Kothe grounded out to the third baseman during
the next at bat, allowing Bergin to cross the plate. Boston U. pitcher Kelley Engman then induced two ground
outs to end the inning.

Connors gave the Great Danes a three-run cushion in the third with her team-leading eighth home run
of the season. UAlbany hurler Leah Mcintosh tossed her second shutout game in as many days, striking out
Six Opposing batters and scattering four hits in a complete-game performance.

Engman also threw a complete game, allowing four hits and issuing just one walk without recording a
strikeout for Boston U. (29-21, AE 15-6). Right fielder Rachel Moeller had two of the Terriers’ four hits.

“We haven't played well consistently all year long,” said UAlbany head coach Chris Cannata, who has
guided the program to three consecutive America East Conference tournament titles and three NCAA berths. “1

@rousr that we would be playing better as the season went on because of our younger kids. We played well all
week, against Siena and Manhattan, leading into the weekend. Taking three games from any team is tough, let
alone a good team like Boston.”

UAlbany, which went 16-1 on its home field this season, will host the America East Conference
Championship, a double-elimination tournament, on May 8-10.

UMBC RALLIES TO DEFEAT UALBANY, 14-13, IN AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Baltimore, Md. — Freshman midfielder Jamie Kimbles scored the game-winning goal with two minutes and 12
seconds remaining as UMBC completed an improbable comeback with a 14-13 victory over UAlbany to win the
America East Conference championship on Saturday evening at UMBC Stadium. The Retrievers, who are
ranked No. 7 in both national polls, earned an automatic NCAA berth.

UMBC (12-3) trailed by much as nine goals in the first half before regrouping to capture their second
conference championship in the last three years. The Retrievers, who were still behind 11-4 at halftime, scored
four goals in the opening three minutes and seven seconds of the third quarter to jump-start their rally.
Sophomore attack Matt Latham, who had four goals and one assist, scored on a man-advantage 24 seconds into
the period. After Maxx Davis and Chris Jones netted unassisted goals, Latham came open in the middle of the
zone with 11:29 left in the period.

The Retrievers, who were edged, 15-14, by UAlbany in last year’s title game, would later run off three
unanswered to close the gap to 12-11 with 9:53 remaining in the final quarter. Dom Scalzo hit an empty-net in a
man-up situation after the Great Danes failed to clear the ball. Kyle Wimer, who totaled three goals and one
assist, circled from left of the cage to fine the net, before Alex Hopmann ripped a shot from above the crease.

After UAlbany’s Corey Small gave his team a two-goal lead with a blast from the left side, UMBC would
score three times in a two-minute-and-nine second span to post its school-record 11th straight win. Latham cut to
the top of the crease to finish off Terry Kimener’s feed. Alex Hopmann, who accounted for two goals and three
assists, drove from the right to send a low shot to far post that drew his team even at 13 apiece. Kimbles would
connect on a 12-yard blast off a pass from behind by Davis to put his team ahead. UAlbany’s Brian Caufield has
an opportunity to get the equalizer, but his shot from the left went wide with seven seconds to play.

“It was a tale of two halves where we dominated the first and they dominated the second,” said UAlbany
coach Scott Marr, whose team was meeting UMBC in the championship for the third consecutive year. “We
weren't as aggressive in the second half. They dodged harder, got the looks they wanted, and there were a
couple of penalties that hurt us.”

UAlbany (8-8) came firing out of the gate by scoring the game’s opening five goals, including four in a
stretch of two minutes and 25 seconds. Caufield, a freshman attacker, found the net three times in that
sequence, and began the outburst by coming around the cage from the left.

Mike Ammann then connected from 10 yards in the middle after Small worked through the defense to
deliver a crossing pass. Steve Ammann, who scored twice and handed out one assist, came out of the box
following a penalty to force a turnover that led to Caufield’s fastbreak goal. Defenseman Craig McDonald whistled
a shot past goalkeeper Jeremy Blevins from 15 yards away to finish off a play in transition. Caufield completed
the run when he again came around the net from the left.

UMBC’s Wimer put his team on the scoreboard by shooting through a defender into the top right corner
with 1:15 remaining in the first quarter. UAlbany freshman Joe Pompo answered with back-to-back goals in the
final nine seconds of the period. He beat the quarter-ending horn by wheeling to his right shoulder after midfielder
Jordan Levine collected a ground ball off the face-off and threw long into the offensive zone.

The Great Danes led by as much as 11-2 midway through the second stanza when Pompo tallied his
fourth goal of the half. He deposited Levine’s crossing pass from right of the crease with 6:41 to play. Latham
and Kimener, the championship’s most outstanding player, each scored before halftime, both assisted by
Hopmann.

“That was the story of our season,” offered Levine, who had three assists and was voted to the all-
championship team along with goalkeeper Brett Queener (14 saves) and Caufield. “We had six one-goal losses
and that’s the toughest way to lose. They attacked the goal harder in the second half. They made plays and we
didn’t and got to loose balls at key times.”

MASON’S GRAND SLAM LEADS UALBANY SOFTBALL TO DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF BOSTON U.

Albany, N.Y. — Freshman designated player Gina Mason drove a grand slam over the left field fence to lead
UAlbany to a 7-0 win over Boston U. in the first game of an America East Conference softball doubleheader
Saturday afternoon at Albany Field. Mason also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the second game to
help the Great Danes post a 3-2 defeat of the Terriers.

UAlbany (31-15, AE 15-5) took an early lead in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning. Left
fielder Amber Maisonet led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Andrianna
Walraven. Maisonet scored the game’s first run on a Boston U. error, while Michelle Connors, who reached
base after being hit by a pitch, was driven in by Mason on a ground out to short.

Mason recorded her second RBI of the game in the third, doubling down the left field line, sending
Connors home. The Great Danes loaded the bases in the bottom half of the fifth, led off with a single to
centerfield by Nicole Kothe. Connors reached after being hit by a pitch and Butsch drew a walk off Boston U.
pitcher Cassidi Hardy. Mason then drove her fifth home run of the season, and her first career grand slam,
over the scoreboard in left field to give the Great Danes a 7-0 lead.

The Terriers got runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh to try and stay alive, but the Great
Danes caught designated player Tyler Benson out at third to end the game. Hardy went 4.2 innings in the circle
for Boston U., fanning three. Kelley Engman replaced Hardy in the fifth, recording three strikeouts over 1.1
innings.

UAlbany’s Leah McIntosh earned the complete-game shutout win for the Great Danes, striking out 15
opposing batters and scattering four hits. McIntosh, who threw her 18th complete game of the season,
improved to 14-5, and recorded her sixth shutout.

Boston U. (29-20, AE 15-5) scored first in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
Left fielder Shayne Lotito knocked a single up the middle and stole second, before scoring on a UAlbany error.
Brooke Hudson knocked an RBI single to short to score catcher Christy Leath, who reached on a walk issued
by UAlbany’s Marissa Powell.

The Great Danes responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Maisonet led off with a base hit for the
second straight game. Walraven reached on a fielder’s choice, as Boston U. got Maisonet out at second base.
Butsch followed with a single to right to advance Walraven. Mason then knocked a base hit, and advanced to
second on the throw, which allowed Walraven to score. Mason advanced to third on an error by the Terriers’
right fielder, which also allowed Butsch to score, but was then called out due to interference to end the inning.

The score remained knotted at 2-2 until the bottom of the fourth, as Connors took first after being hit by
a pitch. Butsch singled down the left field line to advance Connors to second, while Mason followed with a
double to right centerfield, scoring Connors.

Boston U. got runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not capitalize. Powell induced
three straight outs in the seventh to end the game and give UAlbany the doubleheader sweep. She finished
with five strikeouts in a complete-game performance. Megan Currier recorded a complete game in the circle for
the Terriers, fanning one opposing batter over six innings of work.

The teams, who are tied for first in the conference standings, will complete the season series on
Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. The winner of the final game will be crowned regular-season champions and earn
the right to host the America East Conference Tournament on May 8-10.

ALBANY'S SEFCU ARENA WILL HOST THE 2009 AMERICA EAST MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — University at Albany will play host to the 2009 America East Men’s Basketball Championship at the 4,538-seat SEFCU Arena on
campus in Albany, N.Y. The decision was reached in a vote by the conference’s athletics directors.

The nine-team tournament in 2009 begins with a first-round game on Friday, March 6. Quarterfinal and semifinal games follow on Saturday, March 7 and
Sunday, March 8, respectively. The championship game will be played Saturday, March 14 at the home court of the higher remaining seed and will be
televised by ESPN2.

“We are very proud that our colleagues have chosen the University at Albany to host this championship,” said Lee McElroy, Albany Vice President & Director
of Athletics. “The America East basketball championship has been extremely successful and we hope to continue the tradition. We look forward to the chal-
lenge of working with the conference membership in presenting a prestigious college basketball event to the university community and Capital Region.”

“We are very excited about going to Albany for the 2009 Men’s Basketball Championship,” said America East Commissioner Patrick Nero. “The experience
and dedication of Albany’s staff, combined with the passion for basketball in the Capital Region, will make for a promising championship. All of our teams
return young, talented players from last year and this can only add excitement to the 2009 tournament.”

SEFCU Arena opened in the spring of 1992 as an $11 million state-of-the-art facility. The playing surface on the arena’s three basketball courts and the
surrounding .11 mile track were completely renovated in December of 2004. SEFCU Arena, formerly the Recreation & Convocation Center, played host to
the 2006 America Men’s Basketball Championship title game.

The America East Championship has utilized the present format of a single site for the first rounds, with the championship game played at the higher
remaining seed since 1996. Binghamton University’s Event Center was the site of the championship in 2006 and 2008. Boston University hosted at Agganis

Arena in 2007 and at Walter Brown Arena in 2003 and 2004, while the Terriers were a co-host in 2002 at Matthews Arena. The championship was played
at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del. from 1996 to 2001.

America East will consist of nine teams for the 2008-09 season: Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, Univer-
sity of Maine, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont.

Game times and ticket information for the America East Men’‘s Basketball Championship will be announced at a later date.

UALBANY ADVANCES TO AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL WITH 12-9 SEMFINAL WIN

Baltimore, Md. — Corey Small had five goals and one assist in leading UAlbany to a 12-9 victory over Stony Brook
in the semifinal round of the America East Conference Men’s Lacrosse Tournament on Thursday afternoon at
UMBC Stadium. The Great Danes, who reached the championship for the seventh consecutive year, will play in
Saturday’s final at 7:30 p.m.

UAlbany (8-7) used a run of four consecutive goals to break a 6-6 deadlock in the third quarter. Stony
Brook’s Jordan McBride, the conference rookie of the year, tied the contest with just 12 seconds elapsed in the
second half by scoring from left of the crease with a two-man advantage. Small, a junior attacker who was
making his first appearance since April 12 after suffering an injury, put his team ahead by ripping a shot from the
left side into the top right corner with 10:02 left in the period.

The Great Danes, who earned the championship’s No. 2 seed after defeating Stony Brook in the regular-
season finale five days ago, then got back-to-backs goal from Joe Pompo. The left-handed freshman converted
Small’s behind-the-back pass. He later cut to the top of crease to connect off a feed from Brian Caufield. The
play originated after reserve goalkeeper Dan McKeon made a Save on the previous SBU possession. Jordan
Levine increased the lead to 10-6 when he worked around the cage and found the net on an inside roll from right
of the crease.

The Great Danes, who have pushed over the .500 mark for the first time season after starting the
schedule with five straight losses, carried that four-goal margin to the final minutes. But the Seawolves closed the
gap to 11-9 with a pair of scores 14 seconds apart. Owen Adams nailed a 15-yard blast after his squad caused a
turnover with a double-team in the defensive end. Bo Tripodi then one-timed a pass from Rhys Duch after the
Seawolves won the subsequent face-off. UAlbany’s John Alpizar sealed the outcome by hitting an empty net with
1:05 to play.

“| have been itching to get back,” said Small, whose six points was one off his career-best total. “The
doctors cleared me two days ago. | definitely was winded early, but then things felt normal. We are just playing
for our seniors. We don't want their season to end.”

Stony Brook (7-7) trailed 3-2 early in the second quarter, but then reeled off three unanswered. Michal
Trojanowski worked around the around the cage to score at point-blank range from right of the crease. Ryan
Hughes put his team in front with a jump-shot from the right point, before Bobby Trenkle dodged a defender to
convert Trojanowski’s crossing pass with 10:15 remaining in the period.

The Great Danes countered with three straight goals. Small finished off Caufield’s pass after starting
goalkeeper Brett Queener cleared the ball from the defensive end. Mark Cometti drew his team even at five
apiece with a low underhanded shot from the left side. The junior midfielder then spun to his right shoulder from
the middle of the zone to give his team a 6-5 halftime lead with 1:29 left before the break.

“We never gave them the lead early in the third quarter when we had that unreleaseable penalty,”
explained UAlbany coach Scott Marr, whose program will play for a possible fifth NCAA berth in the championship
final. “We grabbed the momentum by keeping them off the scoreboard, expect for the man-down goal, and that
gave us a lift. It was good to have Corey (Small) back in the lineup. He is a great finisher and adds a shooter to
our attack.”

UAlbany’s Caufield had one goal and six assists, tying the second-highest total in the program’s Division |
era, while Queener made 13 saves. The Seawolves’ Trenkle had two goals and one assist. Rob Camposa
turned aside 11 shots.
