UMBC UPENDS UALBANY, 9-8, TO EARN AMERICA EAST TOURNEY’S TOP SEED

Albany, N.Y. — Drew Westervelt scored three of his four goals in the first quarter, as UMBC held
off UAlbany for a 9-8 America East Conference victory in the regular-season finale for both teams
on Saturday evening at University Field. The Retrievers earned a share of the conference’s
regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for next week’s postseason tournament.

UMBC (7-7, AE 5-1) jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening period, when Westervelt
found the net on a man-advantage opportunity. The 6-foot-4 sophomore later scored with two
seconds left in the quarter, as he converted a crossing pass following a turnover.

The Retrievers, who won 15 of 20 faceoffs to control the tempo of the game, possessed
the ball for most of the second period. Rob Cross gave his team a 5-2 lead at halftime by driving
around a defensive midfielder from behind the cage.

UMBC would run off three consecutive goals in the third stanza in building an 8-3
advantage. Andy Gallagher, who had three goals and one assist, scored back-to-back 49
seconds apart, before Westervelt added his fourth goal of the contest with 5:05 left in the period.

UAlbany (8-5, AE 5-1) still trailed 9-5 in the final quarter, before mounting a comeback.
Frank Resetarits connected on a jump shot from the left side in a man-down situation to slice the
deficit in half. Freshman Derek Dale closed the gap to 9-8 on an extra-man goal with 1:37 to
play.

@ The Great Danes, who were coming off a 14-13 loss to Syracuse eight days ago, had an
opportunity to draw even on the following face-off. But midfielder Jordan Levine was stripped of
the ball by a UMBC defender as he sped toward the goal.

“We've won a couple of tough games, this team is battle tested,” said UMBC coach Don
Zimmerman, whose squad will meet Stony Brook in the America East semifinal round on

Wednesday. “It's great to see them excited, and the fact that they have accomplished
something.”

Merrick Thomson led the Great Danes with two goals and two assists, while Luke
Daquino and Resetarits each scored twice and added one assist. Daquino became the school’s

all-time leading scorer with 220 points, breaking a mark set by Cort Kim, who had 218 from 1989-
92.

“They gave us a great game, we played poorly, but we still had a chance,” said Daquino,
who has 95 goals and 125 assists as a collegian. “We did the wrong things on a wet field, like
trying to change direction, plus we didn’t execute our fastbreak.”

SPILLETT AND RAJCZAK SCORE FOUR GOALS AS UALBANY DOWNS BINGHAMTON

Vestal, N.Y. — Sarah Spillett and Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville) each tied their career-
high with four goals as UAlbany defeated Binghamton, 15-10, in the final America East
Conference regular season game for both teams on Friday afternoon.

Binghamton (3-12, AE 0-6) opened up a 4-2 lead midway through the first half, as Heather
Grose scored a goal and assisted on two others. Anna Riordan, who paced the Bearcats
with two goals and one assist, added a free-position goal.

UAlbany (6-11, AE 4-2), who has won five of its last six games, countered with six
unanswered goals to build an 8-4 cushion. Rajczak tallied three goals in the spurt, while Erin
Fitzmartin, who set a career-high with two goals, scored both in a five-minute span.

With UAlbany holding an 11-6 lead in the second half, Binghamton rattled off three goals in
three minutes to close the gap to 11-9. Laura Gabbamonte scored her first of two goals in
the game before Riordan fed Lauren Wetherall. Danielle Edwards capped the scoring spurt.

@:1.- Great Danes ended the threat by scoring four of the next five markers. Rajczak and Kate
Fontana, who recorded her 100th career point, scored 23 seconds apart to restore a 13-9
lead.

UAlbany goalkeeper Jen Daly made 14 saves, while Binghamton’s Christa Quon stopped 18
shots. The Great Danes will play in the America East postseason tournament that starts on
Thursday, May 5.

CETTE LEADS UMBC PAST UALBANY AT AMERICA EAST TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

New Haven, Conn. — Pascaline Cette posted a singles and doubles win to help third-seeded

MBC defeat sixth-seeded UAlbany, 4-0, in a quarterfinal match of the America East Tennis
Championship held at the Connecticut Tennis Center on Friday. The match was called after
UMBC achieved the four points needed to determine the winner.

Cette defeated Kim Westcott at No. 5 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-1. Cette then teamed with
Idil Un for an 8-2 showing at third doubles. Aimee Lim and Un each registered singles
victories for the Retrievers.

UAlbany is scheduled to meet Hartford, who lost to Binghamton, in a consolation match on
Saturday at 10 a.m. UMBC moves on to face Binghamton in the semifinals.

LOTMORE QUALIFIES FOR ECAC’S IN 3,000-METERS AT PENN RELAYS

Philadelphia, Pa. - Alyssa Lotmore qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 3,000-
meter run, finishing sixth with a time of 9:51.24 on Thursday, April 28 at the 111" Penn
Relays.

On Friday, the men’s sprint medley relay team set a school record with a time of 3:23.55. The
team of Junior Burnett, Shamere Boland, Stephen Evans, and Gered Burns finished third
overall behind Kansas and Abilene Christian.

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Ed Hilts, Shamere Boland, Drew Harrison and Dale
Hopkinson placed 16" overall with a time of 42.72 seconds. Meanwhile, the 4x400-meter
relay team posted a 6"-place finish in their heat. The team of Burnett, Jerry Wilson, Tim
O’Riley and Burns recorded a time of 3:18.28.

In the women’s triple jump, Arina Gerasimova finished 14" with a distance of 37-feet, 2.75-

UALBANY SOFTBALL'S MORIN FIRES HER SIXTH ONE-HITTER OF THE SEASON

Albany, N.Y. — Junior pitcher Amanda Morin (South Glens Falls) fired her sixth one-hitter of the
season as UAlbany downed Vermont, 2-1, in the opening game of the doubleheader in America East
Conference softball. Vermont rallied to take the nightcap in a non-conference tilt, 6-5.

Morin tied her season-high for strikeouts in a game with 10. The lone hit she allowed was a
fourth inning lead off home run by third baseman Kate DeForge. Morin retired 11 of the final 12
batters she faced and is now 11-2 on the season. Aimee Kern took the loss for the Catamounts,
dropping to 8-9. She struck out four in going the distance.

UAlbany (26-11, AE 12-2) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first wnen shortstop Maegan
Larsen stole third base and scored on a throwing error. The Great Danes scored the winning run in
the bottom of the fourth when third baseman Kelly Ogden scored on a throwing error by DeForge.

In the nightcap, Ogden set the single season record for RBI by a Great Dane when she drove
in her 38th run on a RBI single in the bottom of the first. UAlbany led 3-1 before Vermont (15-17, AE
3-12) rallied with a five-run fourth inning. Shortstop Kate Haber put the Catamounts ahead 4-3 ona
two-run single to right field. Christine Toomey and Kate Ramsey extended the lead on RBI
doubles. UAlbany cut the deficit to 6-5 in the bottom half of the fourth on two unearned runs.

Vermont's Sara Burke picked up the victory to go to 7-7 on the season and Kern recorded her
third save of the season. Danielle Buyea was on the short end of the decision and is now 1-2.

© UAlbany returns to action on Saturday, April 30 with an America East doubleheader at
Binghamton. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

TONY VALLONE SPARKS UALBANY TO 9-8 VICTORY OVER ST. FRANCIS N.Y.

Brooklyn, N.Y. — Tony Vallone (Greenwich Central) smacked a go-ahead two-run double in
the eighth inning to give UAlbany a 9-8 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) in non-conference
baseball action at Key Span Park on Thursday afternoon.

With the Great Danes trailing 8-7 entering the eighth inning, Vallone delivered his ninth
double of the season to put UAlbany back in front 9-8.

Giorgio Fuda earned the win in relief and improved to 4-0. Closer Shawn Ryan (Stillwater

Central) pitched 1.1 innings to earn his seventh save. Fred Estes chipped in with two hits and
two RBI for the Great Danes.

UAlbany (12-13) started the game with a seven-run first inning. Rashad Barksdale (Hudson)

drilled a solo home run and Joe Lamb added his first of the season, a two-run blast to fuel
the outpouring.

St. Francis (6-24) slowly chipped away and eventually tied the game at 7-7 with two runs in
the bottom half of the fifth. The Terriers scored a run in the sixth off UAlbany reliever

UALBANY AND ORCHARD CREEK HOSTS AMERICA EAST GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Albany, N.Y. — Diane Onofry, last year’s medalist, and the University at Albany women’s golf
team will look to defend their titles at the 2005 America East Conference Championships on
May 2 and 3. The stroke-play championship is a 36-hole event, with rounds of 18 holes each
day to be held at the Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont.

UAlbany, Boston University and Hartford will compete for the women’s championship
with first-round play beginning at 11:50 a.m. Hartford, Binghamton and Boston U. will battle
for the men’s title and will tee off at 11 a.m. The championship’s second round will start with
the women at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men at 9:20 a.m.

UAlbany returns three of its top five finishers from the 2004 championship squad.
Besides Onofry, the Great Danes’ Jill Friedman and Anne Lyons placed second and fifth,
respectively.

UALBANY WOMEN’S TENNIS SEEDED SIXTH AT AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
New Haven, Conn. — Defending champion Boston University earned the top seed for the
America East Women’s Tennis Championship, as announced by the conference office. The
Terriers have won 10 consecutive conference titles.
The America East Championship will be held Friday through Sunday at the Connecticut
ennis Center in New Haven, Conn. The event is a team-match format with the finals
scheduled for Sunday at 12 noon. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the
NCAA Tournament.
UAlbany is seeded sixth in the championship and will take on third-seed UMBC on
Friday at 10 a.m. Freshman Amanda Hall leads the Great Danes with a 16-11 singles record
this season. Hall and classmate Kim Westcott have paired for a 12-7 showing at No. 2
doubles. Head coach Chrissy Short’s squad has posted a seven-win improvement over the
previous season.

UALBANY ATHLETES RECEIVE CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARDS
Albany, N.Y. — State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King recently announced
that seven University at Albany student-athletes are recipients of the Chancellor's Scholar-
Athlete Award. UAlbany athletes honored are Andy Allstadt (cross country), Roman Dubiel
(baseball), John Eleby (lacrosse), Jill Friedman (golf), Ashley Heilmann (lacrosse), Alexis
Johnson (field hockey) and Susan Spierre (volleyball).

The Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes a combination of academic
excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. The winners were selected by athletic
directors at SUNY’s Division | institutions. The awards were presented on Monday, April 25
at a ceremony at the Wyndham Hotel in Syracuse.

Friedman, a senior golfer from Liverpool, N.Y., received the Chancellor's Award for the
second consecutive year. She has a 3.69 cumulative grade point average in business
administration with an emphasis in marketing. Friedman led the Great Danes in stroke
average at 83.82 per round during the fall 2004 schedule. UAlbany hosts the America East
Conference championships on May 2-3 at Orchard Creek Golf Course.

Allstadt, a senior cross country competitor from Endicott, N.Y., has a 3.64 GPA in
biology. He earned All-America East Conference recognition for the third straight season with

oe seventh-place finish at the conference championships. He has been accepted into the
University’s biology graduate program.

A native of Andover, N.J., Johnson led the UAlbany field hockey team in scoring with
nine goals and four assists for 22 points. She finished her career fourth on the school’s all-
time scoring list. The senior has a 3.20 GPA in psychology with a dual minor in criminal
justice and education.

Spierre, who has a 3.61 GPA in atmospheric science, was a starter at middle hitter on
UAlbany’s America East Conference champion volleyball squad. The Great Danes became
the first women’s program in school history to earn a NCAA Division | tournament berth with a
2/-7 record. Spierre, who hails from West Sand Lake, N.Y., averaged 1.81 kills and 0.81
blocks, plus had a .301 hitting percentage.

Eleby, a senior defensive midfielder on the men’s lacrosse team from Valatie, N.Y.,
already has earned a B.S. in criminal justice with a minor in East Asian Studies. He was
named the 2004 America East Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in his sport with a 3.65
GPA. The Great Danes are currently ranked No. 13 in the latest USILA national poll.

A senior who is majoring in communication and linguistics, Heilmann is a four-year
member of the women’s lacrosse team. She received an Initiatives for Women Award to
conduct research on speech patterns among male and female student-athletes. Heilmann,
who has a 3.73 GPA, is also a member of UAlbany’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Dubiel, a senior pitcher from Longueuil, Quebec, has a 3.82 GPA in urban studies with
a minor in Spanish. In 10 relief appearances this season, he has a 1-1 record with a 1.00

@ earned run average. Dubiel, wno has appeared out of the UAlbany bullpen on 54 occasions
during his career, is a Presidential Leadership Award Winner.

UALBANY DEFEATS STONY BROOK, 16-5, IN AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE ACTION

Stony Brook, N.Y. — Tom Hill went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a career-high six RBI to lead
UAlbany to a 16-5 win over America East foe Stony Brook on Monday afternoon.

With the score tied at 5-5 heading into the fifth inning, Tony Vallone (Greenwich) knocked a double
down the left-field line. Starting pitcher Brian Murtagh intentionally walked first baseman Steve
Sayre (Columbia) before allowing an RBI single to Leo Corvino (Columbia). After replacing Murtagh,
Mike Errigo walked Justin Meagher (Colonie) to load the bases. Derek DeGrazio hit a sacrifice fly
and Hill followed with a two-run single to center field to give the Great Danes a 9-5 lead.

UAlbany (11-13, AE 3-6) opened up the game in the sixth inning, posting six runs to shut down the
Seawolves (15-21, AE 4-5). Joe Lamb started off the inning with a double to center field. Lamb later
scored on an error by Stony Brook pitcher Matt Restivo. Craig Farley hit a two-run single before Hill
crushed his first homer of the day, a three-run shot that scored Sayre and Farley.

Hill closed out the game as the lead-off batter in the top of the ninth inning, hitting his second home
run of the day to give the Great Danes the 16-5 victory.

UAlbany opened the game with a two-run first inning, scoring on two errors by Stony Brook catcher
om Pennino. The Great Danes struck again with a two-run third, as Sayre knocked his second
home run of the season to score Wyland.

The Seawolves scored all five of their runs in the first two innings. Matt Devins led Stony Brook,

going 2-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI. Isidro Fortuna finished 1-for-3 with a team-high two
RBI.

Mark Suchoweicki earned the win for UAlbany, tossing six innings, striking out two.

MERRICK THOMSON CHOSEN AMERICA EAST CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) has been chosen
the America East Conference Co-Player of the Week in men’s lacrosse, as announced today
by the conference office. Thomson has won or shared the weekly award on four occasions
this season.

Thomson totaled five goals and two assists in last Friday’s 14-13 loss to seventh-
ranked Syracuse in a matchup of national top-20 teams at the Carrier Dome. The sophomore
attackman is on fire with 29 points (23 goals, 6 assists) over his last four starts. He has
scored three or more goals against eight consecutive opponents.

Thomson, who has 45 goals and 17 assists this spring, leads the nation in goals at 3.75
per game, plus is second in points with a 5.17 average.

SOFTBALL’S AMBER MAISONET NAMED AMERICA EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Boston, Mass. — Freshman left fielder Amber Maisonet has been named the America East
Conference Rookie of the Week in softball, as announced today by the league office. This is
the second time she has won the award this season.

Maisonet recorded three multi-hit games last week as the Great Danes won three of
@'° games. She went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in an 8-1 victory at Army on April 20.
Against Maine on Sunday, she had three hits in four at-bats with two RBI. In the first game of
Saturday's doubleheader with Maine, she had two hits and two RBI in a 7-0 victory. For the
week, she hit .471 with four RBI.
For the season, Maisonet is second on the team in batting with a .366 average and in
hits with 41. She leads the squad in stolen bases (14) and is third with 21 RBI.

UAlbany (25-10, AE 11-2) hosts Vermont in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 27
with first pitch at 2:30 p.m. The Great Danes have won 22 of their last 26 contests.

MEN’S LACROSSE RANKED NO. 13 FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WEEK IN NATIONAL POLL
Baltimore, Md. — UAlbany’s men’s lacrosse team is ranked 13th for the third consecutive
week in the USILA Geico/STX Coaches Poll, as announced today by the U.S. Intercollegiate
Lacrosse Association.

UAlbany (8-4, AE 5-0) is coming off a narrow 14-13 loss to seventh-ranked Syracuse
on April 22 at the Carrier Dome. The Great Danes meet America East Conference-rival
UMBC on Saturday in the regular-season finale at University Field. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
UAlbany can clinch the conference’s regular-season title and secure home field for the
America East postseason tournament with a victory.

STONY BROOK WINS FIRST TWO OF AMERICA EAST SERIES WITH UALBANY

Stony Brook, N.Y. — Jon Lewis threw a complete game to earn his 25th career victory and set a new
Stony Brook record for wins as the Seawolves swept a doubleheader from UAlbany on Sunday, April
24 at University Field. Lewis allowed just six hits in the nightcap, leading Stony Brook to a 8-4 victory.
The Seawolves also took the early game, 8-2.

UAlbany (10-13, AE 2-6) opened the scoring in Game One on an RBI single by Justin Meagher
(Colonie) in the second inning. Steve Sayre (Columbia), who led off the inning with a double off the
left field wall, scored on the play. Stony Brook (15-20, AE 4-4) answered in the bottom of the frame,
as Isidro Fortuna drew a leadoff walk and was plated on a line-drive home run by Chris DiBiaso.
Nick Theoharis also drilled a home run in the inning to put the Seawolves up 3-1.

The Great Danes drew within 3-2 on an RBI double by Steve Wyland in the third inning. Sayre than
knocked a single to bring Wyland home, tying the game. The score remained knotted at three until
the bottom of the fifth inning as Stony Brook brought home three runs to go up 6-3. Chris Sipp and
Matt Devins each added two-out RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to give the Seawolves an 8-3

lead.

Graay plated a run in the seventh to pull within four, and then loaded the bases with only one out in
the eighth, but Matt Restivo came out of the bullpen to record the final two outs of the inning and sit
down the next three UAlbany batters in order to preserve the Stony Brook victory in the ninth.

In Game Two, Stony Brook jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as Andrew Larsen and
Fortuna singled and were brought home on a Tom Pennino double. The Seawolves broke open the
game in the third inning, scoring four runs off UAlbany pitchers Ethan Vaiana and Jeff Mazzola.
DiBiaso crushed his second home run of the day, a three-run shot, followed by an RBI double by Jon
Pasieka to put Stony Brook up 6-0.

The Great Danes got on the board in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Meagher and Leo
Corvino (Columbia). However, the Seawolves answered in the bottom of the inning to a two-run
homer by Fortuna to give Stony Brook a seven-run lead. UAlbany attempted to start a rally in the top
of the seventh, but were able to plate just one run, allowing the Seawolves to hold on for an 8-2 win.

Sayre led the Great Danes, going 5-for-9 on the day, including his tenth double of the year, with two
RBI. Corvino went 4-of-7 with an RBI for UAlbany.

The America East series will conclude tomorrow at 12 p.m.

DIANE ONOFRY FINISHES 11TH TO LEAD UALBANY TO A FOURTH PLACE TEAM FINISH

south Hadley, Mass. — UAlbany’s Diane Onofry shot a round of 87 to finish 11th overall to lead the
Great Danes to a fourth-place team finish at the Northeast Intercollegiate Championships, held at The
Orchard Golf Club on Sunday.

The 36-hole tournament was shortened to one round due to rainy weather at the site of the 2004 U.S.
Women’s Open.

Jill Friedman was the second UAlbany finisher, placing 17th overall with a 17-over par score of 89
(45-44). Anne Lyons tied for 25th with a total of 91 (47-44), while Maggie Taylert was 36th
individually with scores a total of 95. Freshman Samantha Williams was 32nd with a score of 94 (50-
44).

Jennifer Cronan led Harvard to the team title, finishing first individually with a six-over par score of
78 (38-40). Harvard posted a team score of 331. Middlebury was second as a team with 349 strokes,

ALBEE SCORES CAREER-HIGH SIX GOALS AS NEW HAMPSHIRE DOWNS UALBANY

Albany, N.Y. — Senior Jill Albee scored a career-high six goals in leading New Hampshire to
a 17-7 victory over UAlbany in America East Conference women’s lacrosse action on Sunday
afternoon at Varsity Field. The loss snaps the Great Danes’ win streak at four games.

Albee scored three of New Hampshire’s first four goals as the Wildcats jumped out to a 4-1
lead midway through the first half. UAlbany’s Brittany Scott dodged past a defender to slice
the deficit to 4-2. New Hampshire (9-6, AE 4-0) countered with the final four goals of the half
to build an 8-2 cushion. Jess Burnap, who recorded her 200th career point in the game,
scored twice in that stretch.

Kim Reny pulled UAlbany to within 8-3 on a bounce shot from the right wing at 26:01. But
New Hampshire’s offense pounded out six consecutive goals to increase the margin to 14-3
at 15:21. Albee scored two of her goals in the span, while Burnap added a goal and an assist.

UAlbany (5-11, AE 3-2) attempted a rally with three straight goals to make the score 14-6 at
9:43. Scott notched her second of the game before Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville)

@received a pass from Sarah Spillett and scored from the right side. Reny capped the spurt

Albee’s sixth goal of the game stopped the rally and ensured the win for New Hampshire.

one-out RBI double as Maine snapped UAlbany's nine-game America East Conference

winning streak with a 9-5 victory on Sunday afternoon at Kessock Field. The Great Danes had

won the first two games of the weekend series.

Maegan Larsen cut the deficit to 3-2. Third baseman Kelly Ogden evened the scored ona

base hit that plated Larsen.

The Great Danes later scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-5 on a two-
run double by left fielder Amber Maisonet. In the bottom half of the frame, Maine added three
insurance runs on a two-run homer by shortstop Brittany Cheney and a solo shot by
McKinney to provide the final margin.

Senior hurler Jenna Merchant picked up the victory for the Black Bears in relief and is now 3-
3 on the season. UAlbany's Casey Halloran (Columbia) took the loss, snapping her 13-game
win streak on the mound. The sophomore pitcher is now 13-5 on the season.

UAlbany returns to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Vermont at

BURNS AND LOTMORE LEAD UALBANY TRACK & FIELD AT UCONN INVITATIONAL

Storrs, Conn. — Gered Burns (Guilderland) finished first in the 800-meter run while Alyssa Lotmore
(Bishop Maginn) was second in the 1,500-meter run to highlight the University at Albany men’s and
women’s track and field teams’ performance at the UConn Invitational on Saturday, April 23.
UAlbany’s men placed second among six teams, while the women were third of nine squads.

Burns posted a time of 1:52.70 in his victory, over two seconds faster than the second-place runner.
Lotmore, who also competed the women’s 800-meter run, ran a time of 4:42.51 in the 1,500.

Other individual winners for the men team included Tim O’Riley in the 400-meter hurdles, Kamar

Elliott in the triple jump and Eric Opuana in the hammer throw. O'Riley finished in a time of 55.04
while Elliott posted a distance of 47-feet, 1.5-inches. Opuana had a toss of 172-feet, 10.5-inches to
earn the victory in his event.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay team was also victorious for the Great Danes, who finished second in
ee team standings with a total of 201 points. The team of Junior Burnett, Stephen Evans, O'Riley
and Burns ran a time of 3:22.25.

men’s and women’s team competitions were won by host team UConn with 213 and 225.5 points,

UALBANY SOFTBALL TAKES AMERICA EAST DOUBLEHEADER FROM MAINE

Borcno. Maine — Junior pitcher Amanda Morin (South Glens Falls) hurled her fifth one-hitter of the
season, as UAlbany shut out Maine, 7-0, in the opening game of an America East Conference softball

doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Kessock Field. In the nightcap, the Great Danes scored two
runs in the fifth inning en route to a 3-1 win.

Morin struck out seven in the opener and is now 10-2 on the season. The lone hit she allowed was a
@irst-inning single by center fielder Jess Brady. For the Black Bears, Sarah Bennis took the loss and
falls to 6-6 on the season.

UAlbany (25-9, 11-1 AE) broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by shortstop
Maegan Larsen that plated pinch-runner Danielle Buyea. The Great Danes made it 3-0 in the sixth
on asolo home run by first baseman Ashley Rios and a RBI groundout by designated player Erika
Enocksen. Left fielder Amber Maisonet highlighted a four-run seventh with a triple that drove in a
pair.

In the second game, Maine (12-20, AE 6-4) led 1-0 in the fourth inning when UAlbany third baseman
Kelly Ogden homered to tie the game, her eighth of the season. Center fielder Leslie Busch put the
Great Danes ahead 2-1 on a RBI single and an error on the same play allowed another run to score.

Sophomore pitcher Casey Halloran (Columbia) won her 13th straight decision to improve to 13-4 on
the season. She scattered five hits and struck out three in the contest. Maine's Jenna Merchant was
on the short end of the decision and drops to 2-3.

UAlbany solidified its first-place standing in the conference with a three-game lead in the loss column.
The two teams complete the three-game weekend set on Sunday morning with first pitch scheduled
for 11 a.m.

#7 SYRACUSE HOLDS OFF #13 UALBANY 14-13 INNON-LEAGUE ACTION

syracuse, N.Y. — Brian Crockett tied a career-high with six goals and added one assist in
leading seventh-ranked Syracuse to a 14-13 victory over No. 13 UAlbany in a battle of top-20
teams on Friday, April 22 before 4,488 fans at the Carrier Dome.

syracuse (7-4) snapped a 10-10 tie early in the fourth quarter with a pair of goals exactly one
minute apart. Mike Leveille, who had two goals and two assists, hit the lower right corner off
Crockett’s feed before Brett Bucktooth drove around the cage to score his fourth goal of the
game.

UAlbany (8-4) closed within one goal on three separate occasions over the final 10 minutes.
After Leveille gave his team a 14-12 lead with 2:05 remaining, Merrick Thomson scored in
transition 32 seconds later to slice the deficit in half. SU goalkeeper Jay Pfeifer then sealed
the outcome, when he stopped Brendan Russell’s low shot with 26 seconds to play.

@. was disappointed in some of the events at the end of the game, but satisfied with the way
we played against the defending national champions,” commented UAlbany coach Scott Marr,
whose team had won six of its previous seven contests. “They played a zone the last two or
three minutes, and we used a floating set to find a good matchup. (Russell’s shot) didn’t go
where he wanted. It was a good shot, but it was just the wrong placement.”

The Orange, who have won six of their last seven starts, led 7-5 early in the third quarter. But
the Great Danes came back with three straight goals to go ahead. Frank Resetarits, who
had three goals and two assists, found the upper corner off a short crossing pass that tied the
contest at seven apiece. Thomson, who totaled five goals and two assists, gave his team the
lead with a man-advantage goal.

UAlbany later led 9-8 after Chris Martocchia converted his third goal of the game, but SU
scored twice in the late stages of the third period to regain the lead. Greg Rommel connected
on a spin shot that drew his team even, before Crockett rifled a 15-yard shot into the net with
one second left in the quarter.

FONTANA SCORES CAREER-HIGH SIX GOALS TO LEAD UALBANY PAST VERMONT

Albany, N.Y. — Kate Fontana scored a career-high six goals, including the game-winning
tally, in helping UAlbany rally to a 10-9 win over Vermont in America East Conference
women’s lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Varsity Field. The victory extended UAlbany’s
winning streak to four games.

Vermont (4-10, AE 1-4) opened up a 6-3 halftime advantage and led 9-5 with 7:05 remaining
before UAlbany mounted its comeback. Nikki Donohue sparked the scoring, dishing to
Sarah Spillett on the right side of the net off a free-position opportunity. Fontana, who

recorded her 11th multiple-goal game, scored unassisted goals 10 seconds apart to close the
margin to 9-8 with 3:41 left.

Spillett won the ensuing draw control to give the ball back to the Great Danes. After working
the perimeter, Kim Reny spun past a defender and knotted the game at 9-9 with 2:24 left to
play. Fontana picked up the next draw control before delivering the game-winning goal with
42 seconds remaining. The Catamounts were unable to gain possession in their offensive

Reny, who finished with two goals, put UAlbany (5-10, AE 3-1) on the board, scoring low on
the first shot of the game. Vermont countered with four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead.
Sara Talbot notched two in that stretch, while Vanessa Cox, who is Vermont’s all-time
scoring leader, added a goal and an assist.

After a goal by Fontana made the score 4-2, Becky Kenison and Christen Faltermeier

rebuilt a 6-2 cushion for the Catamounts. Fontana bounced in her second goal of the game to
cut the deficit to 6-3 at the half.

Jen Daly made 10 saves in goal for UAlbany, while Meaghan Hanley stopped eight shots for

CASEY HALLORAN HELPS UALBANY SOFTBALL TO SPLIT AT ARMY

West Point, N.Y. — Sophomore Casey Halloran (Columbia) won her twelfth straight game as
UAlbany split a non-conference doubleheader at the Army Softball Complex on Wednesday
afternoon. Halloran allowed one run in six innings as the Great Danes won game two, 8-1.
Army captured the first game, 2-0, behind a strong outing from pitcher Leigh Harrell.

UAlbany (23-9) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two as the first three Great
Dane hitters reached base. With the bases loaded and one out, Katrina Dunning had an RBI
groundout to plate Amber Maisonet who had singled. Then Ali Meacham added an RBI

single to left and Brittany Burnham (Voorheesville) capped the scoring with a two-run single.

Kelly Ogden hit her team-leading seventh home run of the season in the third inning to put
UAlbany ahead 5-0. Ogden broke the school’s single-season home run record with the blast.
The Black Knights cut into the lead in their half of the third as Lindsay March lined a single to
left to plate Lindsey Romack, who had also singled.

UAlbany regained its five-run cushion on Maegan Larsen’s solo home run in the top of the
ourth. The Great Danes added a second run after Army pitcher Kelly Trout threw away
Maisonet’s bunt attempt, allowing her to come all the way around. Erika Enocksen tacked on
a solo homer to right field in the top of the fifth, stretching the score to 8-1.

Halloran, who improved to 12-4, surrendered four hits in six innings. Danielle Buyea worked
a scoreless seventh. Veronica Barth took the loss for Army, giving up five runs on five hits in
2.2 innings.

Army (27-17) struck first with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Romack led off with a
bunt single and scored on Nikki Posey’s ensuing double to the right-center gap. Lauren
Gobar followed with a bunt single and stole second base to put runners at second and third
with no outs. UAlbany pitcher Amanda Morin (South Glens Falls) worked out of the jam by
setting down the next three batters in order.

Army added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Romack reached on a fielder’s choice
and stole second. Posey also reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced Romack to third.
Romack and Posey then executed a double steal, with Romack making the score 2-0.

Harrell pitched her fifth complete game of the season, scattering four hits over seven innings.

ALTINAY SPARKS BINGHAMTON TO 7-0 SWEEP OF UALBANY TENNIS

Vestal, N.Y. — Zeynep Altinay captured first singles and second doubles in helping to guide
Binghamton to a 7-0 sweep of UAlbany in women’s tennis action on Wednesday afternoon.

Altinay defeated Courtney Michels, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and then teamed with Alyssa
Freeman for an 8-0 showing at No. 2 doubles. Jelena Koprivica and Lya Kushnirovich
posted victories at No. 2 and 3 singles for the Bearcats (14-5).

UALBANY TAKES 11-5 WIN OVER LE MOYNE IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Syracuse, N.Y. — Leo Corvino (Columbia) and Steve Wyland each recorded three hits to lead
UAlbany to an 11-5 non-conference win over Le Moyne on Tuesday, April 19 at Dick Rockwell Field.

UAlbany scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead. Tony Vallone (Greenwich) plated
the go-ahead run with an RBI double to right center off a 3-2 pitch, sending Derek DeGrazio home.
Corvino, who finished with three RBI, recorded his second hit of the day on a single to center field,
scoring Vallone. The sophomore right fielder than stole second before scoring a run off an RBI single
by Joe Lamb. Wyland plated the final run of the inning for the Great Danes, reaching on a fielder’s
choice, sending catcher Fred Estes over the plate.

Le Moyne started the game of with a two-run first inning before the Great Danes scored two of their
own in the top of the second. Justin Meagher (Colonie) knocked a double to left center to advance
Steve Sayre (Columbia), who reached after being hit by a pitch. DeGrazio than hit a base hit back to
Dolphin pitcher Craig Soja, plating Sayre. Corvino had his first hit of the day in the inning, an RBI
single through the right side, scoring Meagher.

UAlbany posted single runs in both the fifth and sixth to pad their lead, and then finished the game
er a three-run ninth inning. Le Moyne reliever Andre Enriquez walked Estes, followed by a base hit
by Rashad Barksdale (Hudson). Lamb, the reigning America East player of the week, than hit an

JONATHAN JONES EARNS AMERICA EAST TRACK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany's Jonathan Jones has been named the America East
Conference Field Performer of the Week in men’s track and field as announced by the
conference office on Tuesday, April 19.

Jones, a senior, won the long jump at the UAlbany Spring Classic on April 16. Jones posted
an NCAA-qualifying mark of 24-feet, 1.5 inches in helping the Great Danes to the team title.
He also finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 48-08.25. Jones will compete in next
month's NCAA East Regional.

UALBANY MEN'S SOCCER SIGNS EIGHT STUDENT-ATHLETES FOR 2005 SEASON

Albany, N.Y. -- University at Albany men's soccer coach Johan Aarnio announced today that
eight student-athletes have committed to play for the Great Danes, beginning with the 2005
season. Timba Bimont, Steward Ceus, Don Johnson, Brent "Tufi" Long, Kurt Ruhe-
Lischke, Erik DiLorenzo, Taylor McNamara and Gabriel Seguin-Gauthier have signed
e" letter of intents to become members of the UAlbany program.
“We are extremely pleased with our incoming recruiting class which brings us height,
athleticism, and talent," Aarnio said. "Timba (Bimont) and Tufi (Long) will add strength and
quickness to our forward line. McNamara and Johnson are talented midfielders, while the
other two Canadian defenders, Lischke and DiLorenzo, will give us size in the back. Ceus is a
huge goalkeeper who was highly recruited by others."

Bimont, a transfer from The Globe Institute, joins the Great Danes after scoring four goals and
five assists for 13 points last season. He was named the best offensive player and helped his
squad to the regional championship in 2003 with an 8-5-1 record. The Stockholm, Sweden
native played for Tensta Gymnasium, which won the 1999 City of Stockholm High School
Championship.

Ceus, a 6-foot-6 goalkeeper from West Haverstraw, New York, was a four-year starter in the
net for North Rockland. He recorded 36 shutouts and was named to The Journal News first
team all-star in his senior season. He also participated for the Hudson Valley in the scholastic
division at the 2004 Empire State Games.

DiLorenzo, a defender from Bolton, Ontario, was named the school's player of the year in
2004 as a junior. He is a two-year captain and a member of three division championship
@"* He scored 13 goals a year ago. DiLorenzo competed on the Toronto Junior Lynx, who

eached the finals of the Dallas Cup.

Johnson tallied 53 goals and chipped in with 18 assists for 124 points in two seasons at

aarp Spellman. The Bronx, New York native was the team's most valuable player in 2003

and 2004, first team all-Catholic League in 2003 and co-league MVP in 2004. The
midfielder/forward helped Cardinal Spellman to a 16-1 record this past season and the
Catholic League Championship.

Long scored 66 goals and added 23 assists for 155 career points at McKinley High School. A
forward, he was a two-time all-state selection, including third team as a sophomore and
second team as a senior. The Canton, Ohio native is the first player from his high school to
receive a Division | men's soccer scholarship.

McNamara helped lona C.S.S. to the Peel Division regular-season crown in 2004, when they
went 8-0. The midfielder scored three goals and added 10 assists for 16 points. The Bolton,
Ontario product also played on the Toronto Junior Lynx club team and had 36 points on eight
goals and 20 assists.

Ruhe-Lischke, a defender, played for the Toronto Junior Lynx U-17 squad. The team was
undefeated against all other Canadian teams in the age group and did not lose in Super Y
League play. The Lynx won the Super Y League Heartland Division Championship and were
Super Y North American semi-finalists.

seguin-Gauthier scored four goals for Champlain College and helped his team finish 8-1-3.

Orne Chateauguay, Quebec native has played on the U-17 Canadian National Team and
earned 13 international caps. He also played on the U-16 FC Select Rive-Sud in the 2002
national championships.

In 2004, UAlbany went 12-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the America East Conference, sharing the

LAMB NAMED AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Joe Lamb was named the America East Conference
Player of the Week in baseball as announced today by the conference office.

Lamb earned his first award of the season after a stellar four-game performance. The
senior shortstop went 11-of-17 at the plate for a .647 average. Lamb knocked out two
doubles, scored four runs and recorded four RBI. He also notched his fourth stolen base of
the season to move his career total to 47.

In the second game of a doubleheader against Northeastern, Lamb went 4-for-4 at the
plate with one run scored and a RBI. In the final game of the weekend series, he was 4-of-5
with two runs and a RBI. Lamb, who did not strike out once in 17 at-bats, raised his batting
average 105 points to .269 on the season.

DAQUINO EARNS A-EAST CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS IN LACROSSE
Boston, Mass. - UAlbany's Luke Daquino has been selected as the America East
Conference Co-Player of the Week in men’s lacrosse, as announced today by the conference

==. Daquino earned the weekly award for the second time this season.

Daquino totaled six goals and eight assists in a pair of America East victories, as his
team clinched a spot in the upcoming conference postseason tournament. The senior
attacker had three goals and three assists in a 16-9 triumph over Vermont and totaled three
goals and five assists in a 16-8 victory against Quinnipiac.

Daquino, who is among the NCAA Division | leaders in scoring and assists with 22
goals and 26 assists, also became the school’s all-time assists leader with 120. He broke a
mark established by Blake Kim, who had 119 from 1989-92.

MEN’S LACROSSE REMAINS NO. 13 IN USILA NATIONAL RANKINGS
Baltimore, Md. — UAlbany’s men’s lacrosse team is ranked 13th for the second straight week
in the USILA Geico/STX Coaches Poll, as announced today by the U.S. Intercollegiate
Lacrosse Association. The Great Danes made their debut in the national top 20 on April 4.

AMANDA MORIN CHOSEN AMERICA EAST SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
@soston, Mass. - UAlbany's Amanda Morin (South Glens Falls) has been chosen the America
East Conference Pitcher of the Week in softball, as announced today by the league office.

Morin received the honor for the fourth time this season.

Morin tossed a total of eight innings in two starts this week, allowing just one hit and
pitching to the minimum in seven innings. She retired all nine batters she faced against Stony
Brook on April 16 and then set down the first 12 hitters against the Seawolves the following
day. Morin fanned seven hitters in the eight innings.

Morin is 9-1 on the season and leads the conference with a 0.41 ERA and five
shutouts. In 68.1 innings, she has fanned 69 hitters and is holding opponents to a .100 batting
average (23-for-230).

UAlbany (22-8, AE 9-1) travels to Army for a non-conference doubleheader on
Wednesday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m.

JEN DALY NAMED AMERICA EAST WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Boston, Mass. - University at Albany goalkeeper Jen Daly has been named the America East
Conference Defender of the Week in women's lacrosse, as announced today by the

conference office.

Daly, who earned the award for the first time in her career, recorded 15 saves in
leading UAlbany to a 13-12 victory over America East-rival UMBC on April 15. The
sophomore net-minder added a career-high six ground balls and one caused turnover.

©} Daly, who has reached double-digit saves six times this season, has a 13.29 goals
against average and a .426 save percentage. With the 15 saves, Daly became the Great
Danes' all-time leader in that category with 328. She surpassed Kim Martini's previous

standard of 327.
UAlbany (4-10, AE 2-1) has won three straight games and returns to action on Friday,

April 22 at 4 p.m. against Vermont.

DAQUINO SETS CAREER ASSISTS RECORD IN UALBANY’S 16-8 AMERICA EAST WIN
Albany, N.Y. — Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) scored five goals and Luke Daquino
added three goals and five assists in leading 13th-ranked UAlbany to a 16-8 America East
Conference victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon at University Field.

In winning for the sixth time in its last seven outings, UAlbany (8-3, AE 5-0) clinched at
least a share of the conference’s regular-season title and secured home field advantage for
the America East postseason tournament's semifinal round.

The Great Danes used a run of five consecutive goals to build a 6-1 lead in the second
quarter. Daquino, who became the school’s all-time assists leader and moved into second on
the UAlbany career points list, ignited the scoring, when he fed a wide-open Thomson on the
left side in transition. The senior attacker then hit the top left corner on an angle after his first
shot was blocked. Freshman Steve Ammann and Derek Dale later found the net 28
seconds apart to complete the outburst.

Quinnipiac (2-9, AE 1-3) closed within 8-5 early in the third quarter, when Leigh
DiPace drove from the right and bounced a shot into the net for his second goal of the day.
UAlbany answered with six of the game’s next seven goals. Frank Resetarits, who had
three goals and one assist, connected on a jump shot, before Chris Martocchia converted

ae goals. Thomson, who also had two assists, added a pair of goals in that scoring
spree, including an underhanded shot off a Daquino pass for a 14-6 cushion with 13:48
remaining.

“As the game developed, we connected on our passes, started to run and were much
sharper in transition,” said UAlbany coach Scott Marr, whose team has won 19 of its last 22
regular-season games against America East opponents. “Thomson and Daquino have been
putting up numbers on a consistent basis throughout the year.”

UAlbany goalkeeper Kevin Rae made 16 saves, including eight in the first quarter.
Martocchia finished with three goals and one assist. Sophomore Tucker Prudden totaled
two goals and one assist for the Bobcats, who had won two of their last three coming into the
contest.

“We picked it up after a sloppy start,” said Daquino, who now has 120 assists to eclipse
a mark set by Blake Kim from 1989-92. “Il am more happy about winning than the assists
record. | have good guys around me who can finish, so it’s easier to get assists.”

UALBANY SOFTBALL COMPLETES SWEEP WITH 8-0 WIN OVER STONY BROOK

Albany, N.Y. - Center fielder Leslie Busch hit her first career home run in the bottom of the
fifth, to highlight an eight-run fifth inning as UAlbany defeated Stony Brook, 8-0, in America
East Conference softball action on Sunday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep.

UAlbany (22-8, AE 9-1) took a 1-0 lead when Stony Brook (14-24, AE 5-5) catcher
Margaret Blair dropped the ball when applying the tag to pinch-runner Danielle Buyea,
allowing Buyea to score. Catcher Ali Meacham gave the Great Danes a 2-0 edge on a run-
scoring single to right field. Busch then hit a two-run shot over the right-center field wall to put
her team up 4-0. Second baseman Katrina Dunning gave UAlbany a 7-0 lead on a two-run
single up the middle. Junior right fielder Julie Gannon ended the game on a RBI single that
scored Dunning.

Junior pitcher Amanda Morin (South Glens Falls) tossed her fourth one-hitter of the
season, improving to 9-1. She struck out four batters and pitched to the minimum in four of
the five frames. The only hit Morin allowed was a fifth-inning leadoff single by Kristen Brust.
For the Seawolves, Sarah Hoffman took the loss and falls to 8-8 on the campaign. She
allowed seven hits and five runs, of which three were earned.

@rve to right field to start the inning. Tony Vallone reached on an error by the third
baseman, while Lamb, who stole second, scored on the play. Leo Corvino was hit by a pitch
to advance Vallone. Third baseman Justin Meagher doubled to center field to plate two runs.
Northeastern was able to get out of the inning, striking out Tom Hill swinging.

UAlbany posted three more runs in the bottom of the fifth before scoring four in the
sixth to take a 10-9 lead. Meagher started the sixth inning with a home run, his second of the
season, to right field. Hill followed with a double before Brad Daniels got a base hit and
advanced on an error by the left fielder. Hill scored on the play. Lamb knocked a double to
score Daniels, followed by a groundout RBI by Steve Wyland to send Lamb across the plate.

Designated hitter Matt Morizio hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to tie the
game at 10-all before Heriot gave the Huskies the win with his homer in the eighth.

Lamb finished 4-of-5 for UAlbany while Meagher, who went 2-for-4, led the Great Danes with

UALBANY SPLITS AMERICA EAST DOUBLEHEADER WITH NORTHEASTERN

Albany, N.Y. — Steve Wyland slammed a two-run homer off the scoreboard in right field to lead
UAlbany to a 3-1 America East Conference victory over Northeastern in the second game of a
doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at Varsity Field. The Huskies claimed the first game of the day, 3-
2.

Northeastern (11-15, AE 4-1) held a 1-0 lead after the top of the third. The Huskies picked up two
quick outs in the bottom of the inning, striking out two UAlbany batters, before Joe Lamb knocked a
base hit to right field. Wyland followed with his first home run of the season to put the Great Danes up
by one.

UAlbany (9-10, AE 2-3) tacked on an insurance run in the fourth, as Lamb, who finished the game 4-
for-4 with an RBI, hit a single to center field to score Rashad Barksdale. Barksdale walked to get on
base, and then stole second for his team-leading fourth swipe of the season.

Shawn Ryan entered the game in the sixth inning and earned his sixth save.

@: the first game of the day, UAlbany led 1-0 before Northeastern scored two runs in the top of the

bighth. Husky catcher Dan Milano hit a double to left field before Chris Emanuele reached on an
infield single.

After the runners advanced on a passed ball, shortstop Arman Sidhu walked, and Jeff Heriot

followed with a groundball to short to score one run. Emanuele then scored on another passed ball by
UAlbany catcher Tom Hill to put the Huskies up by one, 3-2.

Northeastern hurlers Adam Ottavino and Tim Bush combined in the final innings to shut down the
Great Dane offense. Ottavino struck out nine for the Huskies.

The teams will conclude the three-game series on Sunday, starting at 12 p.m.

UALBANY MEN & WOMEN WIN 11TH ANNUAL SPRING TRACK & FIELD CLASSIC

Albany, N.Y. — University at Albany’s Jonathan Jones won the long jump with a NCAA-
qualifying mark of 24-feet, 1.50-inches to lead the Great Danes to the team title at the 11th
annual UAlbany Spring Classic on Saturday afternoon at University Field. UAlbany also
captured the women’s championship, as Alyssa Lotmore (Bishop Maginn) was a double-
winner in the 800- and 1,500-meter events.

Jones qualified for next month’s NCAA East Regional on his first jump of the
competition, and was well over seven meters on all six of his attempts. A senior from
syracuse, N.Y., he also finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 44-8.25.

“AS a senior, to go to nationals is something that I’ve dreamed about all year,” said
Jones, who was two inches off Luis Soto’s school record that was established in 1998. “l was
focused today and felt faster in the runway. This was a great atmosphere and | appreciated
the support from my family and the crowd.”

UAlbany’s Chris Pierson qualified for May’s IC4A meet with a first-place performance
in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Pierson’s time of 9:10.64 was 12 seconds better than his
previous best effort. Mike Reynolds was the Great Danes’ third winner, as he took first in the

@vr vault by clearing the bar at 14-8. UAlbany scored 199.50, and was 29 points ahead of
second-place Syracuse.

The Great Danes dominated the women’s meet with 245 points. Lotmore ran a
personal-best 4:34.68 in the 1,500 to record a 13-second triumph. She later came back to
take the 800 by a two-second margin in 2:18.34. Arina Gerasimova also pulled off a double-
victory in the triple jump (38-5) and long jump (17-5.50).

Other UAlbany winners were Patty Diedrich (100-hurdles), Eliana Durko (400-
hurdles) and Maureen Brown (3000-steeplechase). Nicole Susser (Colonie Central) led the
4x400 relay to a first-place finish in 4:02.60. Syracuse’s Brittany Pryor turned in the meet’s
top performance with three victories in the discus, hammer and shot put.

MEACHAM BELTS THREE HOME RUNS AS UALBANY SWEEPS STONY BROOK

Albany, N.Y. — Junior catcher Ali Meacham smacked three home runs and tallied four RBI to
lead UAlbany to a doubleheader sweep of Stony Brook in America East Conference softball
action on Saturday afternoon at Albany Field. The Great Danes posted scores of 14-0 and 10-

UAlbany jumped out early in the second game with a five-run first inning. Ogden hit a two-run
single to the left side and Gannon added her second home run of the day, this one a two-run

blast to left.

The Seawolves (14-23, AE 5-4) put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth, slicing the
gap to 5-2. Kristen Brust and Hayley Durham belted consecutive solo home runs. UAlbany
countered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 9-2. Enocksen led off the
inning with a solo homer before Meacham added a two-run shot later in the frame. Ogden
tallied her third RBI of the game on a single down the left-field line. Meacham then put an end
to the game with a solo home run to left in the bottom of the sixth.

Halloran went the distance to pick up her 11th consecutive victory and is now 11-4 overall.
She scattered three hits and two runs over six innings, while striking out six batters. Sarah
Hoffman got the loss for Stony Brook, allowing 10 hits and eight runs in four innings of work.

KRISSY RAJCZAK’S LATE GOAL LIFTS UALBANY LACROSSE PAST UMBC, 13-12

Albany, N.Y. — Sophomore Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville) scored the game-winning goal
with four seconds remaining, as UAlbany rallied for a 13-12 America East Conference victory
over UMBC in women’s lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Varsity Field.

UMBC (2-8, AE 0-3) took a 12-11 lead with 7:10 left, when Kelly Fiorani converted a
low shot on a free-position attempt. UAlbany (4-10, AE 2-1) tied the contest 30 seconds later,
as Sarah Spillett fired a shot inside the right post following a restart at midfield.

In the closing moments, the Retrievers’ Ede Carpenter turned the ball over in the
center circle with less than 20 seconds to play. UAlbany’s Kim Reny was later fouled as she
drove to the net in the scoring area to set-up a free-position opportunity. Reny then passed
off to Rajczak, who sent a high shot into the cage past goalkeeper Kristina Raab.

UMBC built a 9-6 lead early in the second half, as senior midfielder Anna Jacobs
connected on back-to-back goals, the second off an inside curl. Jacobs led all scorers with
four goals and two assists.

The Great Danes, who have won three straight contests, followed with three
consecutive goals to draw even. Nikki Donohue spun to her left around a defender, and
rifled a shot into the top corner to tie the game at nine apiece.

©} In a seesaw affair down the stretch, UMBC’s Jocena Venditti, who had two goals and
one assist, gave her team an 11-10 advantage after Fiorani won a draw and slid a pass to her
with 11:52 remaining. UAlbany’s Kate Fontana, who scored four goals for the third
consecutive game, got the equalizer 52 seconds later by going low with a free-position shot.

“We're used to getting in a hole, and then getting ourselves out,” said Rajczak, who
scored twice, including her 18th of the season. “This was a big step for us in the conference.
(Reny) knew | was wide open and had the better chance on that last play. It felt good (to
make the shot) after my turnover on our previous possession.”

UAlbany goalkeeper Jen Daly made 15 saves, while Reny tied a season-high with

three goals and added one assist. Fiorani tallied two goals and two assists for the Retrievers,
who have dropped four in a row.

career home run as the Great Danes downed Manhattan, 8-1, in the first game of the
doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Albany Field. In the second game, the Jaspers
scored six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-4 win.

Ogden set the mark in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run blast to left field to
give UAlbany (19-8) a 4-0 lead. The Great Danes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on

UALBANY SOFTBALL SWEEPS VERMONT IN AMERICA EAST DOUBLEHEADER

Burlington, Vt. — Ali Meacham singled in the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning of
the nightcap as UAlbany downed Vermont, 3-2, to complete the sweep of the an America
East Conference doubleheader at Post Field. In the opening game, the Great Danes used a
16-hit attack to record a 13-3 win.

Meacham's two-out single drove in second baseman Katrina Dunning, who led off the
inning with a double. It was the fifth RBI of the day for the junior catcher. UAlbany (18-7, AE
6-1) trailed 1-0 in the top of third inning when first baseman Ashley Rios cracked a two-run
home run to center field to put the Great Danes ahead. Vermont (13-10, AE 2-6) tied the
game in the bottom of the third frame on a double by Kate DeForge that drove in Christine
Toomey, who had tripled.

In the opener, UAlbany trailed 2-0 in the top of the second, when Meacham hit a two-
run double to right-center to even the score. The Great Danes took a 3-2 lead on a RBI
double by center fielder Leslie Busch. After the Catamounts tied the game in the bottom of
the second, Rios put her team up for good, 4-3, in the third inning. She tripled and scored on

THOMSON’S SIX GOALS LEADS NO. 13 UALBANY LACROSSE TO 16-9 A-EAST WIN

Burlington, Vt. - Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) had four of his six goals in the second
half in leading 13th-ranked UAlbany to a 16-9 America East Conference victory over Vermont
on Wednesday afternoon at Centennial Field.

Vermont (2-6, AE 0-3) took a 5-4 lead with 11:55 left in the third quarter, when Jamie
Kirk tallied his eighth goal of the season. UAlbany (7-3, AE 4-0) responded with four
unanswered goals to take the lead for good. Thomson, a sophomore attacker, scored twice
in that stretch, while Luke Daquino, who had three goals and three assists, put his team in
front off a feed from freshman Mike Ammann.

The Catamounts were still in the contest late in the third stanza, when Dan Zwirko
scored one of his four goals to close the gap to 8-6 with 2:08 left in the period. But UAlbany
exploded by scoring eight straight times to take control.

Chris Martocchia scored all three of his goals in the outburst. Daquino, who became
the third player in school history to reach the 200-career point mark, connected on back-to-
back shots 51 seconds apart at the beginning of the final period. Thomson, who has netted
three or more goals against seven consecutive opponents, added a pair in that run, including

“The biggest difference in the second half is that we played as a team,” offered
UAlbany coach Scott Marr, whose squad has won five of its last six contests. “Their defense
was very aggressive. They were locking on (Merrick) Thomson, and that left guys open on

GREAT DANES FALL TO MARIST IN NON-CONFERENCE BASEBALL ACTION

Albany, N.Y. — Justin Lepore smacked a two-run homer and finished four RBI to lead Marist to a 14-
3 non-conference victory over UAlbany on Tuesday, April 12 at Varsity Field.

After UAlbany opened the scoring with a two-run second inning, Marist posted a three-run third to
take the lead. Andy Kiriakedes singled to right field to score Travis Musolf before Keith Brachold
hit a two-run homer to right, scoring Kiriakedes.

The Red Foxes knocked in another four runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-2 lead. The Great
Danes attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run on a Leo Corvino single
that plated Tom Hill.

Marist (10-14) continued to pad its cushion, however, scoring another four runs in the top of the
seventh. Lepore, who hit his home run to right center, drove in two Red Fox runners after Musolf
scored on a Brachold grounder back to the pitcher.

Despite getting men on base in the seventh and ninth innings, UAlbany (8-9) was unable to get any
runners over the plate. Joe Lamb led the Great Danes, recording a double and two RBI in the second

over Siena in women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon in Loudonville. All six of the Saints
singles players were forced to play up as junior standout Denisa Hluchova continues her
recovery from a knee injury.

Freshman Karina Davis earned a 6-2 and 6-3 win at top singles and sophomore Julia Lebedev
won 6-1 and 6-4 at second singles to account for the two Siena points.

ALYSSA LOTMORE NAMED AMERICA EAST TRACK PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Alyssa Lotmore (Bishop Maginn H.S.) has been
named the America East Conference Track Performer of the Week as announced on
Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.

Lotmore finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run at the Duke Invitational on April 8. The
sophomore’s time of 16:51.77 qualified her for the NCAA East Regional meet. Lotmore
posted the first sub-17 minute clocking by a UAlbany female runner in the event. She also
shattered the school record by nearly 40 seconds, a mark she established in 2004.

UAlbany hosts its 11th Annual Spring Classic on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 at
University Field.

UALBANY WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT HARTFORD INVITATIONAL

West Hartford, Conn. — Hofstra’s Caitlin Munroe won medalist honors and St. John’s
captured the team title at the Hartford Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Wampanoag
Country Club. UAlbany finished eighth in the two-day, 36-hole tournament.

© Munroe shot a final-round 82 to edge Long Island’s Shauna Wilde by one stroke.
siena’s Jillian Blanchard fired a pair of 83s to finish in third place. Munroe, who was tied for
fifth after the first round, made up a two-shot deficit on the final day. First-round leader
Jennifer Rhee, of St. John’s, slipped into a tie for fourth with an 87 over the final 18 holes.
The Red Storm easily took first in the team scoring with a 24-stroke advantage over Hartford.

Freshman Maggie Taylert tied for 18th place to lead the Great Danes, who had a two-

round score of 723. Taylert carded an 86 over the par-73, 5,872-yard layout to go with her
opening-round 88. Diane Onofry tied for 25th with an 89 in each round, will Jill Friedman’s

final-day 87, nine strokes better than her first 18 holes, moved the senior into a tie for 34th
place.

MERRICK THOMSON EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT AMERICA EAST WEEKLY AWARD

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) has been
named the America East Conference Co-Player of the Week in men’s lacrosse as announced
by the conference office on Monday. He shared the award with Stony Brook’s Jason
Cappadoro. Thomson earned his second consecutive America East weekly honor and third

this season.

Thomson, a sophomore attack, scored a season-high seven goals and dished one assist in
UAlbany’s 12-6 America East victory over Binghamton on April 9. He fell one shy of tying the
school’s single-game record of eight that he established during the 2004 season. Thomson
also tallied three goals and one assist in a 19-6 loss to No. 1 Johns Hopkins on April 5.

A native of Stoney Creek, Ontario, Thomson leads the conference with 3.32 goals per game
and ranks second in points per game (4.56). He has registered 29 goals and 12 assists in
nine games this season.

KATE FONTANA RECEIVES AMERICA EAST WOMEN’S LACROSSE ACCOLADES

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Kate Fontana was named the America East
Conference Co-Player of the Week in women’s lacrosse as announced by the conference
office on Monday. Fontana shared the honor with Vermont's Vanessa Cox.

Fontana, a sophomore midfielder, scored four goals, including the game-winning tally with two
minutes left in UAlbany’s 11-10 victory over America East rival Stony Brook on April 9.
Fontana, who earned her first America East honor this season, added a game-high five
ground balls and three caused turnovers.

A native of East Syracuse, N.Y., Fontana ranks fifth in the conference with 2.38 goals per
game. Fontana also sits among the leaders in ground balls (3.54 pg) and caused turnovers
(2.23 pg). She has tallied 31 goals and four assists in 13 games this season.

Boston, Mass. - University at Albany's Kelly Ogden has been named the America East
Conference Player of the Week and Amber Maisonet received the Rookie of the Week
award in softball, as announced on Monday by the league office.

Ogden, a sophomore third baseman, hit .500 for the week with four home runs and 14 RBI as
the Great Danes went 6-1. She drove in both deciding runs in the doubleheader sweep of
Dartmouth on April 5, with a sacrifice fly in the opener and a grand slam in the nightcap. In the
first game against Hartford, Ogden hit a two-run go-ahead home run on April 6. At Boston
University on April 10, Ogden tied the UAlbany all-time home run mark with eight when she
cracked a two-run homer. She drove in her 50th career run on a single in the first inning of
game two against Boston U. on April 9. For the season, Ogden is leading the squad with five
home runs and 26 RBI, while batting .329.

Maisonet, a freshman left fielder, recorded three hits and drove in three runs as UAlbany
downed Boston U., 13-7, in game two on April 9. She recorded a hit in six of seven contests
this past week and plated six runs. Maisonet sparked a five-run rally against Hartford in the
first game with a bunt single. In the final two games against Boston U., she had five hits, four
runs scored and four RBI. She hit .409 for the week and made 16 putouts without an error.
Maisonet is hitting .324 this season and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with eight.

Rivas (16-7, AE 4-1), who has won 13 of its last 14, travels to Vermont for an America East

OGDEN TIES UALBANY SOFTBALL HOME RUN RECORD IN WIN OVER BOSTON U.

Boston, Mass. — Third baseman Kelly Ogden cranked a two-run homer in the fifth
inning as UAlbany defeated Boston University, 14-2, on Sunday afternoon in America East
Conference softball action to capture the three-game series. With the blast, she ties
Lynnette Bohannon (2001-02) for the UAlbany home run record with eight.

With one runner on base, Ogden hit the record tying shot to left center to give the Great
Danes a 5-1 lead on the Terriers. The home run was a part of a 15-hit barrage by UAlbany,
who Is now 16-7 overall and 4-1 in America East play.

Boston University (8-15-1, AE 2-3) led 1-0 going into the fourth inning before UAlbany
ignited with three runs to take the lead. First baseman Ashley Rios drove in left fielder
Amber Maisonet on a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Second baseman Katrina Dunning gave
the Great Danes the lead for good on a double to right center field, plating Ogden.
Designated player Erika Enocksen capped off the inning with a RBI single that scored
Dunning.

The Great Danes scored nine runs in the top of the sixth, sending up 14 batters to the
plate in the inning. Center fielder Leslie Busch had three RBI in the inning, while Rios

gant in two runs. UAlbany also got run scoring hits by shortstop Maegan Larsen,

Dunning and Maisonet. Busch and Rios each drove in three runs for the Great Danes.
Sophomore pitcher Casey Halloran (Columbia), who pitched her fourth complete game
of the season, won her eighth straight game and is now 8-4. She struck out five batters and
scattered six hits in six innings. For the Terriers, Jenna Grapensteter took the loss and falls
to 3-1 on the season.

UALBANY SNAPS MAINE’S SIX-GAME WIN STREAK WITH AN 8-6 A-EAST VICTORY

Albany, N.Y. — Tom Hill hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning in leading
UAlbany to a 8-6 America East Conference victory over Maine on Sunday, April 10 at Varsity Field.
The victory broke the Black Bears’ six-game win streak that began on April 1.

Maine starter Greg Creek allowed two base hits before walking Tony Vallone (Greenwich) to
@ox the bases. Hill then hit the ball off the center field wall, giving UAlbany a two-run lead, 6-4. The

home run.

Maine (15-9, AE 2-1) attempted another rally in the seventh when Ryan Quintal doubled down
the right field line. Barrett knocked a base hit up the middle for his third RBI of the day before Mike
Ferriggi hit into a double play. Alexander Beaulieu entered the game for his team-leading tenth
appearance to get the final out to end the Black Bear run.

UAlbany (8-8, AE 1-2) posted two more runs in the seventh. Rashad Barksdale (Hudson)
walked, than advanced to second on a passed ball. Barksdale moved on to third on a single to left
field by Steve Wyland, and crossed the plate on a balk by Maine reliever Nolan Boike. Derek
DeGrazio knocked a base hit, but moved on to second on an error by the Black Bears’ right fielder

Closer Shawn Ryan (Stillwater Central), who earned his conference-leading fifth save of the
season, entered the game in the eighth. In the top of the ninth, Ryan struck out the first two Maine
batters before Curt Smith reached on a passed ball. With a two-strike count, Frank Pesanello
singled to center field, plating Smith. Joe Hough then reached on an error by Wyland at second
base, loading the bases. Ryan followed by sitting down Matt McGraw swinging to end the game.

DeGrazio went 2-for-3 for UAlbany with one run scored and an RBI. Barrett led the Black

KATE FONTANA NETS GAME-WINNING GOAL AS UALBANY DOWNS STONY BROOK

Stony Brook, N.Y. — Kate Fontana scored a season-high four goals, including the game-
winner with two minutes remaining as UAlbany rallied for an 11-10 victory over Stony Brook in
an America East Conference contest on Saturday evening at LaValle Stadium.

After trailing 7-3 at halftime, UAlbany (3-10, AE 1-1) battled all the way back to later tie the
game at 9-9 on a goal by Nikki Donohue with 6:37 remaining in the game. The Great Danes,
who won their second straight game, took their first lead of the game a minute later on a free-
position goal by Erin Fitzmartin.

stony Brook (6-4, AE 1-1) answered right back as a yellow card on Michelle Michalenko
gave Carlee Buck a free-position opportunity that she used to knot the game at 10-10 at
9:02. Fontana then netted the game-winning tally on a free position at 2:02.

Fontana sparked the second-half rally with the Great Danes’ first two goals of the period,
closing the gap to 7-5. Amy Taylor countered with a transition goal after Jen Sandtorv made
@ save and threw the outlet pass, putting Stony Brook ahead 8-5.
The Great Danes continued to battle as Kim Reny netted a goal as Sandtorv was peppered
with three consecutive shots, bringing the score to 8-6 at 14:02. The two teams traded goals
over the next six minutes, with Domenica LoRe and Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville)
scoring for the Great Danes and Danielle Werner for the Seawolves.

UAlbany’s Jen Daly made seven saves, while Sandtorv stopped 10 shots for Stony Brook.
The Great Danes won the shot battle, 22-20, and limited the Seawolves to five shots in the

BURNS AND LOTMORE SET RECORDS TO QUALIFY FOR NCAA REGIONAL MEET

Durham, N.C. — Gered Burns posted an NCAA Regional-qualifying time of 3:47.78 in the
1,500-meter race, finishing fifth at the Duke Asics Invitational on Friday, April 8. Burns’ time
Quas a five-second personal best and was a new school record.

Alyssa Lotmore also qualified for the NCAA Regional meet, placing sixth in the 5,000-meter
run with a time of 16:51.77. The time, which was a 40-second personal best for Lotmore, set

a school record. The sophomore, who has only run the 5,000-meter event twice in her career,
became the first UAlbany female runner to post a sub-17-minute time in the event.

Senior Andy Allstadt captured the 10,000-meter run, posting a personal-best time of
30:56.53. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Chris Pierson finished first in his heat in a
personal-best time of 9:22.33. Ryan Gaedje was 13th in the heat while Bryant Cherry-
Woode placed 14th with personal-best times of 9:51.62 and 9:59.66, respectively.

Nicole Susser competed in the 1,500-meter race in the women’s competition, finishing
second in a personal-best time of 4:42. Patty Deidrich placed first in the developmental
section of the 400-meter hurdles, posting a personal-best time of 64.29 seconds.

Members of the UAlbany track and field team also competed at the Williams Relays on
Saturday, April 9. The 4x400-meter relay team of Tim O’Riley, Steven Evans, Shamere
Boland and Jerry Wilson finished first in the event in a time of 3:21.02.

@:e Ewing placed first in the 200-meter dash in 26.50, while Heather Angel set a
personal record of 65.24 in the 400-meter hurdles. In the field events for the Great Danes,
Joy Williams finished first in the shot put with a distance of 43-feet. Corrina Hengen also

In the men’s field events, Jonathan Jones was first in the long jump with a distance of 22-
feet, 9-inches. Marc Pallozzi, who is competing in the javelin for the first time as a collegian
this season, threw a personal record 172-feet in the event. Kamar Elliott, who finished
second in the 100-meter hurdles, leaped a height of 6-feet, 4-inches in the high jump in the

UAlbany (15-7, AE 3-1) scored runs in four of the first five innings to take control. The

MAINE BASEBALL CLAIMS BOTH ENDS OF CONFERENCE-OPENING

Albany, N.Y. — Maine reliever Scott Robinson ended a potential UAlbany rally in the
bottom of the seventh, allowing Maine to sweep the first two games in the America East
Conference opener at Varsity Field on Saturday, April 9.

Robinson entered the game with the bases loaded after starter Greg Norton walked in
a run to allow the Great Danes to pull within 3-2. Norton walked Justin Meagher to start the
inning, followed by a base hit to center field by Leo Corvino. Norton then hit Tony Vallone
with a pitch to load the bases before walking Rich Northrup, allowing Meagher to score.
Rashad Barksdale hit a groundball to shortstop Steve Gambale, who tagged out Northrup
on a fielders choice to end the game.

Maine’s Mike Ferriggi hit a home run off UAlbany starter Mark Suchoweicki as the
leadoff hitter in the third inning to get the Black Bears up 1-0. Maine posted another two runs
in the fifth off a two-run double by Greg Creek.

In the first game of the day, UAlbany got off to an early start when Derek DeGrazio hit
an RBI single to left field to send Barksdale across the plate. The Black Bears went ahead 2-1
in the top of the fourth, however, when Ferriggi hit a two-run single to right field. Matt
McGraw and Ryan Quintal, both of whom earned stolen bases in the inning, scored on the
play.

The Great Danes attempted a comeback in the fifth on three straight hits, with Meagher
olating Steve Wyland on a single down the right field line. UAlbany was unable to score
another run, leaving a total of 14 men on base in the game.

Maine (14-8, AE 2-0) added one run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to seal their

conference-opening win over the Great Danes (7-8, AE 0-2).

UAlbany will attempt to avoid the sweep by Maine in the final game of the series on
Sunday, starting at 12 p.m.

THOMSON NETS SEVEN GOALS TO LEAD #14 UALBANY PAST BINGHAMTON

Vestal, N.Y. — Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) scored seven goals and added one
assist as No. 14 UAlbany defeated Binghamton, 12-6, in America East Conference play on
Saturday. The Great Danes improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in conference action.

Thomson set the tone for UAlbany, scoring the first four Great Dane goals. His fourth tally
sent the Great Danes to a 4-2 halftime advantage. Steve Ammann picked up two assists,
while Frank Resetarits and Luke Daquino assisted on the others.

Stephen Smith scored off a pass from Jeff Kaylor, trimming the margin to 4-3 just 36
seconds into the second half. The Great Danes countered by rattling off three consecutive
tallies to build a 7-3 cushion. Daquino, who finished with three goals and three assists, started
the spurt with a short-handed goal. Mike Ammann added an unassisted score before
Thomson notched his fifth goal of the game off a feed from Chris Martocchia to cap the run.

Binghamton’s Brian Chaapel brought the Bearcats to within 7-4, scoring off an assist by Matt
McNamara at 7:25 of the third period. McNamara paced the Bearcats with two goals and one

@assist.

That was as close as Binghamton would come, as UAlbany struck with the next two. Daquino
managed back-to-back goals, making the score 9-4 with 14:47 left in the game.

UAlbany’s Kevin Rae faced 23 shots, making six saves, while Kevin McKeown stopped 11
for Binghamton (1-7, AE 1-1). Lee Busino (Niskayuna) helped the Great Danes to a 14-8

UALBANY DEFEATS FAIRFIELD, 9-6, INNON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Fairfield, Conn. - Shawn Ryan (Stillwater Central) worked his way out of two bases-loaded
innings to earn his fourth save of the season to lead UAlbany to a 9-6 non-conference victory
over Fairfield at Alumni Diamond on Wednesday, April 6.

The Great Danes broke open a 5-5 tie in the top of the eighth inning when Brad Daniels
scored on a wild pitch by Fairfield reliever Ric Gruber. Rashad Barksdale (Hudson) hit an
RBI single to plate Leo Corvino (Columbia). Steve Sayre (Columbia) followed with an RBI

base hit to left field scoring Barksdale. Steve Wyland also scored for UAlbany on an error by
left fielder Adam Chilelli.

The Stags loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth before Ryan entered the game and
got Brian Rudolph swinging. After recording two quick outs, Ryan found himself in another
bases loaded situation in the bottom of the ninth after committing a fielding error, hitting a
batter and walking the next. Jim Girolamo struck out looking to end the game, giving Ryan
his conference-leading fourth save.

@Barksdale finished the day 3-for-5 with two RBI, while centerfielder Tony Vallone (Greenwich
Central) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Giorgio Fuda (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)

earned the win for the Great Danes, allowing just one earned run while striking out three in
one inning pitched.

UALBANY SOFTBALL SWEEPS AMERICA EAST DOUBLEHEADER FROM HARTFORD
Albany, N.Y. —- Amanda Morin (South Glens Falls) threw a complete-game victory in the first
game and earned her second save of the season in the nightcap, as UAlbany swept a
doubleheader from Hartford in the America East Conference opener for both teams on
Wednesday afternoon at Albany Field. The Great Danes won the pair of games, 7-2 and 4-0.

In the opener, Morin scattered four hits and struck out seven with no walks en route to
her seventh win of the spring. She allowed her first earned run in 46.1 innings, when first
baseman Amy Sullivan smacked a 2-2 offering over the right-field fence in the fifth.
Sullivan’s two-run homer was her second of the spring.

UAlbany (14-6, AE 2-0) plated five runs in the bottom of the inning to reverse a 2-1
deficit. Kelly Ogden, who went 4-for-4 with two runs and four RBI in the contest, belted a
two-run home run to put her team in front. Erika Enocksen and Brittany Burnham
(Voorheesville) added RBI singles.

Ogden, who raised her batting average to .313 on the season, drilled her second home
run of the game and fourth this year in the sixth with a blast down the left-field line. UAlbany’s
third baseman added a RBI double in the first.

In the second contest, the Great Danes took a 3-0 lead in the fifth, wnen Katie Trott

Starting pitcher Casey Halloran, who improved to 6-4 on the mound by allowing just
four hits, got in a bit of a jam in the sixth. But Morin, making her third relief appearance of the

season, worked out of trouble by forcing Samantha Morrison to hit into a force play. She
struck out the side in the seventh.

Morrison collected a hit in each game for the Hawks, who fell to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in

the league. The Great Danes, who extended their winning streak to 11 straight, travel to

OGDEN DRIVES IN FIVE AS UALBANY SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM DARTMOUTH

Albany, N.Y. — Kelly Ogden hit a grand slam to key a second-inning outburst as UAlbany defeated
Dartmouth, 11-3, in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in the
home opener at Albany Field. The Great Danes, who extended their unbeaten streak to nine games,
also captured the opener, 2-1.

Dartmouth (3-9-1) held a 3-1 lead before UAlbany (12-6) erupted for seven runs in the second inning.
Ali Meacham singled to lead off and then Katie Trott blasted a two-run home run to left-center over
the scoreboard. Maegan Larsen followed with a base hit and Amber Maisonet walked to load the
bases. Ogden, who went 3-for-4 in the game, belted her second home run of the season just over
the left-field fence. UAlbany added an unearned run to cap the scoring.

Lauren Perk earned the win for UAlbany, surrendering five hits and three runs in six innings, while
striking out 10. Ashley Thorfinnson took the loss, giving up eight runs and seven hits in 1.1 innings.

In the opening game, Casey Halloran (Columbia) scattered six hits and allowed one run over six

innings. She improved to 5-4 on the season, her fifth straight win, with three strikeouts. Reliever

NO. 1 JOHNS HOPKINS DOMINATES UALBANY, 19-6, TO REMAIN UNBEATEN
Baltimore, Md. — Jake Byrne scored four of his career-high five goals in the opening half, and
top-ranked Johns Hopkins went on to post a 19-6 victory over No. 14 UAlbany on Tuesday
afternoon at Homewood Field.

John Hopkins (7-0) extended its home win streak to 31 straight, dating back to April 3,
2001. The Blue Jays’ string of victories ties the second-longest in Division | history.

Syracuse won 37 consecutive home games from 1982-87.

UAlbany (5-3) trailed 2-1 midway through the first quarter, before JHU exploded with six
unanswered goals. Byrne converted Peter LeSueur’s pass, before All-America midfielder
Kyle Harrison scored unassisted. A sophomore attack, Bryne completed the run with back-
to-back goals in the final 37 seconds of the opening period.

The Blue Jays, who have defeated three consecutive top-20 teams in Syracuse,
Virginia and North Carolina, rolled to a 12-2 halftime lead. Senior midfielder Joe Malo scored
the third of his four goals in the second quarter, while Harrison added three of his career-best
five assists in the period.

“They did a great job of taking away our transition game, and we struggled to clear the
ball,” said UAlbany coach Scott Marr, who played on Johns Hopkins’ 1987 national

BURNS & DIEDRICH CAPTURE AMERICA EAST WEEKLY TRACK HONORS

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany's Gered Burns (Guilderland H.S.) and Patty Diedrich
have been named the America East Conference men’s and women’s track performers of the
week as announced on Tuesday by the conference office. Eric Opuana and Joy Williams
received the men’s and women’s field performer of the week awards.

Burns finished third in the 1500-meter run at the University of South Florida Invitational with a
time of 3:57.92. Burns also ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay, posting a personal-best
split of 48.1 seconds. The relay placed first and qualified for the |C4A Championships with a
season-best time of 3:57.19. Burns will race in the 800- and 1500-meter events at the Duke
Invitational on April 8-9.

Diedrich captured fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles at the USF Invitational with a personal-
best time of 14.20 seconds. Diedrich, who will compete in the 100- and 400-hurdles at the
Duke Invitational, qualified for the ECAC Championships.

@Opuana won the hammer throw with a toss of 178-feet, 10 inches at the USF meet. Opuana
had reached the IC4A standard the previous week at Army.

Williams finished fourth in the hammer throw, tying her school record with an ECAC-qualifying

Hempstead, N.Y. — David Cole hit a RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the eighth inning to put

Hofstra up by a run, leading the Pride to a 6-5 non-conference victory over UAlbany on Monday, April
4 at University Field.

Hofstra scored one run in each of the first two innings before a two-run third inning put UAlbany on
top by one, 3-2. Rashad Barksdale singled through the right side before advancing to second on a
throwing error by the Pride’s Mike Walsh. Derek DeGrazio hit a sacrifice fly to score Barksdale
before Steve Wyland, who was walked by Hofstra starting pitcher Patrick Rogers and advanced on

UALBANY LACROSSE RANKED IN USILA NATIONAL TOP 20 FOR FIRST TIME
Baltimore, Md. — University at Albany’s men lacrosse team is No. 14 in this week's
GEICO/STX USILA national coaches poll. The Great Danes, who are off to a 5-2 start with
three wins against ranked teams, make their first-ever appearance as a Division | program in
the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association rankings. UAlbany is also ranked 18th
in the latest Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.

“One of our goals when | came here was to not only get in the top 20, but be
consistently among those teams,” said UAlbany coach Scott Marr, wnose squad faces the
nation’s top-ranked team Johns Hopkins on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. “This is a reward for all the
players’ efforts, but now we have to continue to work to stay there.”

UAlbany has won three straight games, including last week’s victories over No. 14
stony Brook and No. 19 Dartmouth. John Hopkins, last year’s national runner-up, improved

MERRICK THOMSON NAMED BOTH INSIDE LACROSSE DIVISION I NATIONAL
AND AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boston, Mass. — Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) has been chosen the Inside Lacrosse
Division | Player of the Week, as announced today by the national publication. He was also
named the America East Conference Player of the Week. Thomson received the
conference's weekly award for the second time this season.

Thomson, a sophomore attack, totaled seven goals and four assists in a pair of
victories over national top-20 teams. He had four goals and two assists in last Saturday’s 12-
9 America East win over No. 14 Stony Brook. Thomson scored once and assisted on another
in the fourth quarter, when his team broke a 9-9 tie. He added three goals and two assists in
a 9-7 victory over No. 19 Dartmouth on March 29.

A native of Stoney Creek, Ontario, Thomson is second in the conference in scoring at
4.14 points per game. He has 19 goals and 10 assists through seven games.

Inside Lacrosse Media Poll for 4/4/05

April 04, 2005

Baltimore, Md.- After this weekend of lacrosse one thing is certain:
nobody is safe in the IL media poll. Hopkins, Duke and Virginia retained
the top three spots in this week's poll, with Hopkins getting 15 first-place
votes and Duke nabbing three. However, it's a log-jam after that. Losses
by Maryland and Navy blew the field wide open. Georgetown moved into
fourth place, followed by Army, Syracuse and Maryland. The four teams
are separated by only 10 points, and Army is just one point out of fourth
place. Albany moved into the top 20 this week following wins over Stony
Brook and Dartmouth. Dartmouth rebounded from that loss with a victory
over Notre Dame, causing the Irish to fall and the polls and the Big Green
to rise. Stony Brook dropped out of the top 20, as did Princeton and North
Carolina. In addition to Albany, Denver and Loyola moved into the poll.

KATE FONTANA SPARKS UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE TO 8-5 WIN OVER OHIO

Troy, N.Y. —- Sophomore Kate Fontana scored four goals, including three in the second half
as UAlbany defeated Ohio, 8-5, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at

Rensselaer’s Harkness Field. The victory snapped a nine-game losing skid for the Great
Danes.

With the game knotted at four goals apiece at halftime, UAlbany (2-10) erupted for the first
three scores of the final period en route to a 7-4 advantage with 11:28 remaining. Fontana,
who registered her ninth multiple-goal game this season, capitalized on two free-position
chances in a two-minute span to put the Great Danes ahead 6-4. UAlbany added to its lead
during a two-on-one break when Sarah Spillett fed Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville), who
drew the goalkeeper out of the cage and found the empty net.

Ohio (3-6) closed to within 7-5 on a free-position goal by Kelley Windle with 5:19 to play.

UAlbany added an insurance goal when Fontana scored on a left-to-right crossing pass from
Rajczak.

6. the first half, Ohio took advantage of free-position opportunities by scoring on three

attempts. Caitlin Link scored twice in the half, while Dana Dobbie added a goal that gave
the Bobcats a 3-2 margin. UAlbany countered with a transition goal by Fontana, who carried

the ball all the way in from the defensive zone. Kim Reny then put the Great Danes ahead 4-
3, bouncing a free-position chance.

Jen Daly made eight saves in goal for the Great Danes as she surrendered the fewest goals
to an opponent this season. Jayme Levy stopped seven shots for Ohio.

UALBANY TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES AT USF INVITATIONAL

Tampa, Fla. — Eric Opuana finished first in the hammer throw with a distance of 178-feet, 10-inches
to help lead the UAlbany men’s track and field team at the University of South Florida Track and Field
Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2 at the USF Track and Soccer Stadium. Patty
Diedrich led the women’s squad, qualifying for the ECAC Championships with a personal best time

of 14.20 in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles.

Joy Williams was the top women’s finisher in the field events, tying her school record in the shot put
with a distance of 45-feet, 3.5-inches to finish fourth. Tequirra Cox paced the UAlbany runners,
finishing sixth in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 24.92.

Gered Burns (Guilderland) finished third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:57.92. Burns finished
just .04 seconds behind the reigning 800-meter indoor national champion, Kevin Hicks from Florida
A&M. Jonathan Jones placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 22-feet. Marc Pallozzi, who also
finished 13th in the event with a jump of 19-feet, was sixth in the javelin with a distance of 171-feet, 1-

The men’s 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth with a season-best time. The team of Junior
Burnett, Stephen Evans, Jerry Wilson and Burns posted a time of 3:15.97. Burns ran a personal

best 400 split of 48.1 seconds.

UALBANY LACROSSE DOWNS NO. 14 STONY BROOK IN AMERICA EAST PLAY
Stony Brook, N.Y. — Merrick Thomson (Albany Academy) totaled four goals and two assists in
leading UAlbany to a 12-9 victory over 14th-ranked Stony Brook in an America East Conference
contest on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. The Great Danes, who have won three
Straight, knocked off a national top-20 team for the second time in the last five days.

Stony Brook (5-2, AE 1-1) trailed 9-6 midway through the third quarter, but then responded
with three consecutive goals. Chris Tracey, a transfer from Herkimer County Community
College, did all of the scoring in that stretch, and finished with a career-high four goals. He
scored back-to-back 40 seconds apart, and then tied the game at nine apiece when he converted
Ryan Duchs’ pass with 1:10 left in the period.

UAlbany (5-2, AE 2-0) regrouped in the fourth quarter, as goalkeeper Kevin Rae made
four of his 11 saves in stanza when the Seawolves had three extra-man opportunities. Frank
Resetarits netted his 14th goal of the season to put his team ahead with 12:44 remaining after
Thomson found him alone in front of the crease. The Great Danes later scored a pair of goals in
an eight-second span. Chris Martocchia found the net in transition, before Thomson added
another off the following faceoff.

The Great Danes, who upended No. 19 Dartmouth earlier in the week, jumped out to a 4-1
lead in the opening period as Martocchia scored twice. The Seawolves rallied by scoring five

Q@eorsecutive times, including Jason Cappadora’s short-handed goal, in posting a 6-4 advantage.
However, Brendan Russell nailed a 12-yard jump shot with 0.8 seconds left to slice the deficit in
half.

In the third quarter, UAlbany used that momentum to regain the lead, as Luke Daquino
started a run of four goals during a six-minute stretch. Thomson, who had a season-best six
points, found the net twice in that outburst, including his 19th of the year that finished off
Resetarits’ feed with 7:14 to play in the quarter.

“It was a game of runs,” explained UAlbany coach Scott Marr, whose team will meet top-
ranked Johns Hopkins in Baltimore on Tuesday (April 5). “We played solid defense in the fourth
quarter, and Kevin (Rae) came up with some big saves.”

Callahan totaled 12 saves for the Seawolves, who had their 12-game home winning streak
halted. Martocchia and Daquino, a pair of Long Island natives, finished with three and two goals,
respectively.

“When you win you earn respect,” said Marr, as he referred to his team’s three wins over
top-20 opponents this season. “It shows you the direction we’re going, and the caliber of players
we have in the program.”

NO. 11 BOSTON U. DOWNS UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE, 17-3, IN A-EAST OPENER

Boston, Mass. — Alyssa Trudel scored five goals and added two assists to lead No. 11
Boston U. to a 17-3 victory over UAlbany in the America East Conference opener for both
Squads on Friday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

UAlbany (1-10, AE 0-1) struck first in the contest, as Katelyn Primomo found Kim Reny in
front of the net for a transition goal.

Boston U. (7-1, AE 1-0) then exploded for eight unanswered goals in staking an 8-1 lead with
4:07 left in the first half. Lindsay Lewis and Kaitlyn Cuneo scored twice for the Terriers, who
have won all five meetings in this series. Boston U. took advantage of UAlbany’s first-half
fouls, as free-position opportunities led to three goals.

The Great Danes’ Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville) stopped the run, sending a Kate
Fontana pass into the net, making the score 8-2 at halftime.

The Terriers, who are unbeaten in five home games this season, continued their offensive
outpouring in the second half, racing to a 15-2 lead. Trudel scored three of her goals in the
@opening eight minutes of the stanza, fueling the attack.

Jackie Davren notched UAlbany’s lone goal of the half, capitalizing on a three-on-one for her
first tally as a collegian.

Anne Sheridan made five saves for the Terriers, while UAlbany’s Jen Daly stopped nine

shots.

UALBANY FOOTBALL BEGINS SPRING PRACTICE ON SATURDAY, APRIL 2

Albany, N.Y. -- For the third consecutive spring, University at Albany head football coach Bob
Ford will face the challenge of finding a starting quarterback and reshaping his offensive line,
as his team prepares for its seventh campaign at the Division I-AA level. Ford must replace
10 starters -- seven on offense and three on defense -- from a squad that went 4-7 overall,
but finished third in the Northeast Conference standings.

The list of graduates includes All-America offensive tackle Geir Gudmundsen, All-NEC
center/guard Brandon Shaw, record-setting quarterback Nicholas Bazan, a pair of tailbacks in
Dustin Wilson and Rohann Vidal, and roverback Kurt Campbell, a defender with pro potential.

"Every spring presents a new set of objectives," states Ford, who has a 205-148-1
career record in 36 seasons at the collegiate level. "We need to establish our quarterback
situation on offense, plus shuffle our personnel on the line. Our defense looks solid where we
are deep at linebacker. The most important thing that will come out of the spring is finding
who our team leaders are and getting our coaches familiar with their new assignments."

The Great Danes begin preparations for the 2005 season on Saturday, April 2 with the
first of 15 NCAA-allowed spring practices. The scheduled spring practice dates are: April 2,

¢ 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 18, 15, 18, 20, 23, 25, 27 and 29.

OFFENSE: UAlbany's multiple attack will have a new leader as former line coach Peter
Rossomando has been promoted to offensive coordinator. He will have a decent group of
linemen, many quality receivers and tight ends, and several young quarterbacks to build
around.

Jacob Anderson (6-6, 285) earned second-team AIIl-NEC honors in his first year at
right tackle. Guards Aaron Kimball (6-3, 310), a Fonda-Fultonville graduate, and Sam
Pagano (6-3, 280), who played at Colonie Central, and center Pierce Brennan (6-1, 260)
were also regulars upfront. Tight end Eddie Unverzagt (6-1, 235) has the speed and agility
to be an all-league candidate.

Flanker Mike Wall was on his way to a spectacular red-shirt freshman season until a
broken collarbone sidelined him. He caught 13 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown,
plus ran for another score. Junior Topher Davey (Amsterdam) leads the list of returnees with
15 catches, including one fora TD. Irani DeAraujo (6-2, 200) and Gabe Gallucci (6-2, 185)
represent the future at this position.

The key to any offense is at quarterback, and a competition exists for the third
consecutive year. Daniel Bocanegra (6-1, 190) and Jason Boltus (6-4, 220) lead a group of
four red-shirt freshmen who will battle along with junior walk-on Tom Banach. Bocanegra, a
California native, and Boltus had impressive prep careers.

Fullback Dan Beigel (6-2, 230) had a productive rookie year. Beigel rushed for 244

Qrarcs and one TD, plus hauled in nine passes. Omar Johnson (168 rush yards) may
become the tailback on a full-time basis, but will miss the spring following surgery.

UALBANY FOOTBALL 2-2-2

@oerense: The Great Danes went through the transition, with a young corps of defenders, of
moving from a 4-4 alignment to a multiple scheme. Last year's teachings should result in a
more proven and aggressive unit.

Colin Disch (6-1, 208) and Saratoga Springs High product Brian Becker (5-11, 225)
are a pair of solid inside linebackers. Disch, the 2004 NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year, set
the school's freshman single-season record with 131 tackles, including 15 hits for a loss and
5.0 sacks. Becker, a two-year starter, was second on the team in tackles with 76, plus added
two interceptions and four pass break-ups.

Will Boone and Chris Stellato turned in credible junior campaigns at the inside and
roverback positions. Boone made 48 tackles, while Stellato totaled 42 hits, 5.0 sacks and one
interception. Sophomores Dan Barnes (24 tackles), Trevor DuPont and Mitch Pawluk are
ready to see more playing time among the linebackers. Mike St. Fleur (22 tackles) has
moved from the outside to roverback.

UAlbany returns both starting cornerbacks in the secondary. Kamar Elliott, a
conference triple jump champion, made 40 tackles to go with four pass break-ups. Ryan
Chrobak, a second-team AIl-NEC selection, was fourth on the squad in tackles (51) and
added three interceptions and seven passes defended. Safety Eric Neugebauer had 30
tackles.

Jermaine Lee (6-1, 230) and Justin Sands (6-1, 285) have seen many snaps on the
defensive line. Lee, a senior defensive end, led the Great Danes in sacks (7.5), plus had 55

ackles, including 10.5 for losses. Sands, who also works as a long snapper, made 14
tackles. Defensive end Michael Dungey (6-1, 260) showed lots of promise as a freshman.
KICKING GAME: All of the kicking and punting was handled by sophomore Chris Lynch,
who averaged 33.4 yards per punt. He scored 36 points (24-24 PATs, 4-11 FGs).
