Albany 63, Wagner 60
} Albany, N.Y. — Senior forward Megan Buchanan’s three-pointer with seven seconds remaining

remaining, Albany (2-0) dribbled the ball up the court and called a timeout. Then, off a sideline
out-of-bounds play, Buchanan used a screen to score the game-winner. Wagner (0-2)
scrambled to bring the ball back up the court. Erin Loeser’s desperation three-point attempt
with two seconds left was unsuccessful and time expired after a loose rebound.

percent (24-for-48) from the field. The Great Danes out-rebounded Wagner, 40-27.
“This is a great win once again for us,’ said coach Mari Warner. “The kids listened well
and we were able to come back. Our squad raises their level of play each game. Wagner is a
great team with a lot of athletes, but we just stuck to our game plan. We're not where we want
to be, but we're getting closer.”

points while Lee added 12. The Seahawk defense caused 23 Albany turnovers in the loss.

ALBANY JOINS ATLANTIC SOCCER CONFERENCE IN 2000
Albany, N.Y. -- University at Albany's Interim Director of Athletics Gail Cummings-Danson
announced today that the men's soccer program will join the Atlantic Soccer Conference, a new
NCAA Division | conference, for the 2000-2001 academic year. In addition to Albany, the nine-
member league includes Adelphi University, Binghamton University, Florida International
University, Hartwick College, Howard University, Oneonta State University, Philadelphia
University, and the University at Stony Brook.
"This is a great opportunity for the nine members of the Atlantic Soccer Conference," said
Philadelphia University Director of Athletics Tom Shirley, who will serve as the conference's
president. "In the past, it was a monumental task making the NCAA Tournament as a Division |
independent. But with the new league, in two years we will have a guaranteed NCAA
Tournament play-in game. In addition, if the tournament goes to 48 teams, which is a
possibility, the league will be guaranteed an automatic bid."
Atlantic Soccer Conference programs have strong traditions. Hartwick has made 22
NCAA appearances during its history, and captured the national title in 1977. Florida
International was the 1996 national runner-up, while Philadelphia University has made 16 trips
to the NCAA Tournament.
“Conference affiliation for our men's soccer program provides an opportunity to play for a
conference championship, and eases the scheduling burden," Cummings-Danson said. "Since
all nine schools competed as independents this year, it makes sense to join forces with a
common goal in mind."
Albany finished 6-11-71 in its first NCAA Division | campaign this season.

Albany, N.Y. -- Senior tailback Greg Garrett rushed for a season-high 117 yards and two
touchdowns to lead Albany to a 41-0 Northeast Conference victory over Sacred Heart in the
Great Danes' season finale on Saturday at University Field.
Albany (7-2, NEC 6-1) finished with seven or more victories in four straight years for the
first time. The Great Danes were 10-1 and 11-1, respectively, the last two seasons, and went 7-
3 in 1996.
UA quarterbacks Eric Williams and Michael Oliva threw touchdowns passes on back-
to-back first-quarter drives for a 14-0 lead. Williams fired a 45-yard strike to split end Michael
Ettz, before Oliva hit flanker Jonathan Garrick with a 28-yard scoring pass.
Garrett, the school's all-time leading rusher with 2,958 yards, capped a 10-play march

great chemistry, they are good football players, but more importantly they're great people."
Senior linebacker Mike Grever, who had a:'team-high 11 hits, became the school's all-
time tackles leader early in the fourth quarter. Grever, a 5-foot-11, 215-pound defender, has
348 for his career, and broke a mark set by Frank: Sarcone (1984-87).
@ "He is a cut above at this level," Ford said, whose defense recorded its second shutout
this season by allowing 233 total yards. "He might be one of the two best defensive players
we've ever had here." aif

for 79 more. Halfback Kiheme Cowan, who rushed 17 times for 79 yards, and caught three
