ALBANY, N.Y. -- University at Albany's ‘Kimberly Toorie and Lisa Nesta have been named to the
GTE College Division District | Women's At-Large Team, as chosen by CoSIDA (Sallege Pports
Information Directors of America).
Toone, a track standout with a 3.76 grade point average in criminal justice and a minor in
business, and the other nine first-team selections move on to the:national ballot. The national
GTE all-academic unit will be announced on Thursday, June 22. Nesta, a sophomore distance
runner who has a 4.0 GPA in accounting, is a member of the District | second team.
A senior captain from St. Albans, N.Y., Toone was the 1995 Collegiate Track Conference
champion in the long jump, 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles, and qualified for NCAAs
in all three events. She set a meet and school record of 18' 9.25" jn the long jump at the Albany
Invitational. On the Indoor circuit, Toone was an NCAA qualifier and CTC champion in both the
long jump and 55-meter hurdles. An ECAC Merit Medal winner and a Presidential Scholar, she
will attend graduate school at Albany in criminal justice. , |
Nesta qualified for the NCAA championships in cross county, indogr track and outdoor
track. She became the school's first all-America cross country runner, when she finished 14th
at NCAAs, second at ECACs, and won the New York State title. Nesta, a native ef Binghamton,
was also a Division Ill national qualfier in the indoor 5,000-meter run and the oytdoar 10,000-
meter run. A Presidential Scholar, Nesta tutors Educational Opportuntitles Program (EOP)
students at Albany.
