HUTCHESON RECORDS THIRD STRAIGHT DOUBLE-DOUBLE TO LEAD UALBANY
Binghamton, N.Y. —-Danielle Hutcheson scored 18 points, including the gamewinning shot as
UAlbany beat Binghamton 50-49 in America East Conference action at the Binghamton Events
Center on Tuesday, February 8. The victory was the first for UAlbany as the visiting team in the
series since 1989.
With the score tied at 46, and 2:23 left to go, Rebecka Lindgren hit a three pointer from the top
of the key to put the Bearcats up 49-46. Maree Jones converted a jumper to bring the Great
Danes back within 49-48 with just 1:48 on the clock.
The two teams then traded turnovers before Laura Sario missed a running layup, with Alicia
Learn pulling down the rebound. Tanya James drove to the basket, handing the ball off to
Hutcheson, who hit a hook shot in the lane while getting fouled.
Sario grabbed the rebound off Hutcheson’s missed free throw with 12 seconds on the clock and
raced down the court, passing the ball off to Lindgren, who missed a jump shot as time expired to
seal the win for UAlbany.
“| thought about calling a time out, but | saw something in their eyes and | knew they were going
Oo get it done,” said head coach Trina Patterson, whose team has won four of their last five
contests. “Hutcheson is used to being double-teamed, but tonight she didn't take as many bad
shots. This win shows the character of our team.”
The Great Danes, who were winning 27-19 heading into the locker room, fell victim to a 10-3 run
by Binghamton to start the second half. The Bearcats went ahead, 30-29, on a three pointer from
the right corner by Jen Blues with 13:26 remaining. Binghamton converted 5-of-8 free throws
during the run.
Binghamton opened its biggest lead 43-39 after Laws grabbed a defensive rebound and passed
ahead to Lindgren, who put the finishing touches on a fast break layup at 4:52. UAlbany climbed
back on two straight shots by Jen Schumacher, including her lone three pointer of the night that
put the Great Danes up, 46-43.
“Binghamton is always a tough game because they are good rebounders and are very
aggressive,” said Schumacher “It bothered us that they took one at our place, so we were
determined to be strong at the end.”
Laws, who ended the game with a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10
rebounds, had eight of each in the second half. Jen Haubrich led the Bearcats with 11 points.
@tuicheson, who pulled down 12 caroms, notched her third straight double-double performance.

minute remaining in the extra period. UAlbany (9-10, AE 5-5) closed within one point on its next
possession on a pair of free throws by Jamar Wilson, who had all 13 of his points after halftime.
Freshman Bryan Geffen missed a jumper with 10 seconds left, and UAlbany’s Aquawasi St.
Hilliaire grabbed the rebound to set up a potential game-winning basket. After inbounding from the
sideline, Brian Lillis lost control of the ball in a play that was set up for Wilson. Lillis, wno had six
points and a career-high seven rebounds, missed a 16-footer on the right baseline as time expired.
“We were looking to force Jamar’s defender to help,” said UAlbany coach Will Brown, whose team
has lost all eight meetings in a series that began in the 2001-02 season. “However, Brian lost the ball
and had to gather himself for the last shot. We wanted him to make the decision because he has a
high basketball 1Q.”
Gite Great Danes trailed by as much as 10 points on three occasions in the second half, including 40-
30 midway through the period. UAlbany regrouped with 10 unanswered points while holding the
Terriers scoreless for nearly eight minutes. Wilson had four points in that run, before Levi Levine
sank two foul shots to draw his team even with 3:55 remaining.

apiece when he converted in the lane off a Levine pass. Geffen missed a jumper near the foul line,
and UAlbany’s Brent Wilson misfired on a three-pointer on each of the team’s last possessions in
regulation.
“Brian was trying to get us a win,” offered Jamar Wilson. “He did what he had to do in that situation. It

HUTCHESON HAS 18 POINTS AS UALBANY UPENDS BOSTON U. FOR FIRST TIME
Albany, N.Y. — Danielle Hutcheson had 18 points and eight rebounds to pace four players in
double figures, as UAlbany upended Boston U., 64-58, in America East Conference action on
Saturday afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center. The Great Danes defeated
the visitors for the first time in eight attempts since the series began in the 1999-2000 season.
Boston U. (9-8, AE 4-4) rallied from a 55-50 deficit with less than five minutes remaining.
Katie Meinhardt, who had 10 points off the bench, drilled a three-point field goal, before
freshman Cheri Raffo made a 10-footer in transition to draw her team even with 3:31 left.
UAlbany (9-8, AE 4-4) went back in front when Alicia Learn, who had 10 points, seven
rebounds and a career-high eight assists, sank two foul shots. After Boston U.’s Larissa Parr
split a pair of free throws, the Great Danes pulled away behind Tanya James’ play. James
converted a driving layup and then made two from the line, after being fouled in the
backcourt, for a 61-56 advantage with 30.9 seconds remaining.
Maree Jones, a 6-foot-1 senior who had 14 points and eight rebounds, made three of four
from the charity stripe at the end to hold that margin. The Great Danes were swept
convincingly in last year’s season series, including a 27-point loss in the previous meeting on
March 2.
_ “It was a tough game that required a lot of energy,” UAlbany coach Trina Patterson
commented. “We controlled the game from the start. The corps of the team came through
when we needed them. We hope that this win serves as a springboard for things to come.”
UAlbany led by as much as 32-23 in the opening period, but BU was back within one
possession early in the second half. Becky Bonner canned a 3-pointer from the right wing to
close the gap to 41-40 with 14:22 left. Corinne Jean, a 6-foot-1 freshman, scored a team-
high 15 points, including 5-of-5 from three-point range. The Terriers, who had a three-game
win streak halted, shot just 36.2 percent from the field, but offset that figure by connecting on
a season-high 12 three-point shots.
“The win means a lot to the older players,” said Hutcheson, who made 7-of-17 from the
field and blocked four shots. “The younger girls do not know what it is like to lose to them
twice a year. We played together as a team and that’s what pulled us through.”

Albany, N.Y. — Sophomore guard Jamar Wilson had a season-high 24 points in leading
UAlbany to a 61-42 America East Conference victory over Hartford on Thursday evening at
the Recreation and Convocation Center.
UAlbany (9-9, AE 5-4) led 14-13 with 9:05 remaining in the opening period, but then scored
18 of the game’s next 22 points to take control. Wilson, who made 8-of-13 from the field to go
with five assists and six rebounds, ignited that run to the locker room with a three-pointer.
The Great Danes still led 22-17 five minutes later before reeling off 10 unanswered points.
Freshman Brian Lillis converted a fastbreak layup off a Wilson feed and was followed by a
Lucious Jordan’s 3-point shot. Wilson then canned a pair of free throws and drilled a long-
range three-pointer from the top of the circle off a screen for a 32-17 halftime advantage.
UAlbany kept their double-digit lead throughout the second half, including a 20-point
margin early in the stanza. The Great Danes held the visitors to 37.5-percent shooting and
forced 20 turnovers and the results was the lowest scoring total by an opponent in more than
three years.
“We did a very good job defensively,” said UAlbany coach Will Brown, whose team also
defeated Hartford, 71-59, in the conference opener for both teams back on Dec. 18th.
@ raritora is quick and athletic, and (Aaron) Cook is one of the best offensive players in the
league. We were patient enough on offense to score points.”
Hartford (7-11, AE 3-6) was led by sophomore forward Bo Taylor, who had a double-
double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Aaron Cook added 12 points for the Hawks, who
are winless on the road in eight tries this season.
“Our defense and energy carried us to the win,” said Wilson, who extended his double-
figure scoring streak to 17 straight games. “We turned the ball over a little and were careless
at times, but we stayed composed by playing hard and keeping the intensity level high.”
Jordan, a 6-foot-2 junior, finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for the Great Danes,
who were playing at home for the first time since Jan. 12th after a three-game conference
road swing that covered more than 1,800 miles.

Albany, N.Y. - Jen Schumacher scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half to pace three
players in double figures, as UAlbany rallied for a 64-56 victory over Hartford in America East
Conference play on Wednesday evening at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
UAlbany (8-8, AE 3-4) trailed 43-36 with 13:16 remaining, but then ran off 10 consecutive
points. Danielle Hutcheson, a 6-foot-4 center, tallied six of her 15 points in that outburst.
Schumacher nailed a three-point field to draw her team even at 43 apiece, before Hutcheson
was fouled as she made a turnaround on the right baseline. Her conventional three-point play
put her team ahead for good.
The Great Danes, who forced the visitors to commit 12 of their 17 turnovers in second half,
later led 46-45 with 8:49 left before pulling away with seven straight points. Schumacher, who
was coming off a school-record 36-point effort in her last outing, drilled a 22-footer off an in-
bounds pass to ignite that run. Freshman Tanika Thrower then hit a short jumper in the lane,
and Maree Jones followed by splitting a pair of free throws.

@rsse™ sank two foul shots, but UAlbany netted the final six markers in the stanza.

driven and committed to doing well. Our defense led to our offense. You hope to get buckets
the easy way. That got us going and we created some good scoring opportunities.”
Jones, a 6-foot-1 senior, finished with 14 points, all in the second half, to go with eight
rebounds and five steals. Learn added eight points and seven rebounds for the Great Danes,
who have won four consecutive times in this series.
“This is a big win and helps us get started in building our confidence level,” commented
Schumacher, who made 5-of-9 from the field. “It’s never an easy game against them.
Shooting is all about timing and rhythm. Mine was off because of my knee (injury), but | have
worked through it.”

pointer to put UAlbany ahead to stay at 44-42 with 1:57 left to play. After a turnover by UMBC’s
Sharri Rohde, Sherri Mikus found Hutcheson under the basket for a layup and six-point
cushion.
“We wanted to win and we needed it,” said UAlbany head coach Trina Patterson, whose team
snapped a three-game losing skid. “Coming into the game, assists were my main concern. We
passed the ball better and our shots started to fall. We know we are going to get better.”
UAlbany (7-7, AE 2-3) came out of the gate strong, building a 13-2 lead behind two early trifectas
from Schumacher and another three-pointer from Maree Jones. A second three from Jones
helped the Great Danes extend their lead to 25-13 with 4:34 left in the half. Then UMBC caught
fire from behind the arc, as Morgan Hatten and Matea Pender made back-to-back three’s, and
sparked the Retrievers on an 8-2 run to close the half. UAlbany held a 27-21 halftime advantage.
The Great Danes struggled from the floor at the start of the second half and UMBC (6-8, AE 1-4)
jetted out on a 13-5 spurt that gave the Retrievers their first lead of the night. Rohde netted a
three-pointer and the go-ahead jumper during the run.
“You know you are not going to make every other shot,” said Schumacher, who finished with 12
points all coming from behind the arc. “That’s the ebb and flow of the game. You just have to play
through it and keep shooting.”
Rohde led all players with 18 points, while Matea Pender recorded a double-double for the
Retrievers, tallying 13 points and 11 boards.

UMBC RALLIES TO DOWN UALBANY IN AMERICA EAST ACTION, 67-62
Baltimore, Md. — Brian Hodges scored 10 of his 14 points in the final period, as UMBC came from
behind for a 67-62 America East Conference victory over UAlbany on Wednesday evening at RAC
Arena.
UMBC (7-9, AE 2-5) snapped a three-game losing streak by shooting 52 percent from the field after
halftime. The Retrievers reversed a 51-50 deficit with 8:27 remaining by scoring six consecutive
points. Mike Housman gave his team the lead for good with a pair of free throws. Hodges, who
made 6-of-8 from the field, hit two consecutive layups, the second coming after a goaltending call.
UAlbany (8-8, AE 4-3) closed within 56-55 on a pair of free throws by Levi Levine. But UMBC reeled
off another six-point run to pull away for good. Andrew Feeley, a 6-foot-9 senior, sank a foul shot
and hit a jump hook to ignite that spurt. Rob Gogerty finished off that stretch with two free throws for
a 62-55 advantage with 58 seconds to play.
"UMBC played harder than us," UAlbany Will Brown said. "These two trips (Maine and Baltimore)
back-to-back took a lot out of us. We had no energy and no legs. We just didn't do the things you
need to do in order to win."
© omar Wilson led all scorers with 21 points and added six assists, as the Great Danes took a 31-26
lead to the locker room. Lucious Jordan, who is in his first year with the program after transferring
from Loyola College, added 10 points, including the 1,000" of his career.
“| think we rushed things and fatigue set in," said Jordan, whose team committed 17 turnovers. "It
really hit me today. This has been a long haul for us and it might have been the difference for a lot of
guys.”

JORDAN AND WILSON LEAD UALBANY TO 58-49 A-EAST VICTORY
Orono, Maine — Lucious Jordan had 19 points and Jamar Wilson added 18, in leading
UAlbany to a 58-49 America East Conference victory over Maine on Sunday afternoon at
Alfond Sports Arena.
UAlbany (8-7, AE 4-2) moved into fourth place in the conference standings by holding Maine
(8-7, AE 3-3) to 27.6-percent shooting in the second half. The Great Danes, who won in this
series for the first time in seven tries, posted back-to-back league wins for the first time since
February 2003.
The Great Danes led 44-43 with 6:37 remaining, but then reeled off 10 unanswered points.
Wilson, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, hit a driving layup, before freshman Brent Wilson converted a
drive from left of the lane. Jordan, who made 8-of-19 from the field and had six rebounds,
later scored on the left baseline. Brian Lillis sank a pair of foul shots to complete the outburst
with 1:21 left.
The Black Bears, who shot 35.4 percent overall and committed 22 turnovers, snapped a 28-
all halftime tie with seven straight points to begin the final period. Ernest Turner, who had 13
@boints. hit a three-pointer and a layup to complete that run. The Great Danes, who recorded
their sixth road win of the season, got back into the contest with 11 of the game’s next 13
points. Jordan scored in the lane to draw his team even, before Jamar Wilson connected on
two foul shots for a 39-37 advantage with 11:35 to play.
“We were flat the first four minutes of the second half,” said UAlbany coach Will Brown,
whose team made 21-of-25 from the free throw line. “That was our best halfcourt defense this
season over the final 15 minutes. It was a collective effort. We did a good job of keeping
Turner out of the lane and limiting his penetration.”
Joe Campbell led Maine with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. UAlbany’s Levi
Levine added eight points and nine rebounds.
“We communicated as a team on defense,” said Jordan, whose squad had lost five of its
opening six America East games in each of the previous three seasons. “We helped each
other out and did whatever it took, whether that was helping out, taking charges or making
Steals or blocks.”

Portland, Maine — Missy Traversi scored 16 points to lead Maine to a 57-42 victory over UAlbany in
America East Conference basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Cumberland County Civic
Center.
Traversi tallied 13 of her 16 points in the first half. After a sluggish start, Maine led 9-4 five minutes
into the game before Traversi ignited. The senior guard drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key,
the first of 12 consecutive points for Traversi, as the Black Bears went up 21-8 with 9:02 remaining in
the first half. Maine took a 28-14 advantage into the locker room at intermission.
UAlbany leading scorers were Danielle Hutcheson and Maree Jones (Albany HS) were held to a
combined two points in the half. Jen Schumacher sparked the Great Danes with six points in the
opening stanza.
“We got the shots, but the concentration was not there," said UAlbany coach Trina Patterson, whose
team remains winless against the Black Bears. "We usually get offensive rebounds but we did not hit
the glass and that hurt us."
@aivany made a run to open the second half starting with a three by Schumacher. Sherri Mikus and
Hutcheson each scored in the paint and trimmed the lead to 30-21 with 17:50 remaining. Maine
countered with a 12-1 run over the next four minutes. Monica Peterson punctuated the spurt with

WILSON SCORES 19 AS UALBANY RALLIES FOR 68-62 WIN OVER BINGHAMTON
Albany, N.Y. — Sophomore guard Jamar Wilson scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half,
as UAlbany rallied for a 68-62 America East Conference victory over Binghamton on
Wednesday evening at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
Binghamton (4-10, AE 1-4) built a 48-34 lead with 13:46 remaining, when Nick Billings, a
7-foot senior, hit a six-foot jumper on the right baseline. The Bearcats, who made 13-of-27
from three-point range, had led by nine points at halftime. Sophomore guard Troy Hailey
tallied 11 of his 14 points in the opening period.
UAlbany (7-7, AE 3-2) responded with 16 of the game’s next 17 points to get back into the
contest. The Great Danes, who shot 63.2 percent from the field in the final stanza, closed
within one on Aquawasi St. Hillaire’s slam dunk following a steal. Levi Levine, who had 17
points, gave his team a 50-49 lead on a 19-foot jumper with 8:06 to play.
Binghamton’s Schafer Jackson would later draw his team even at 52 apiece with a long-
range 3-pointer from the right wing. However, UAlbany ran off six straight points to go ahead
for good. Wilson, who made 6-of-7 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the line, made a 15-foot
jumper in the lane to start the decisive run. Lucious Jordan, who added 13 points, sank a
oe" of free throws before Kirsten Zoellner hit a jump hook.
The Great Danes, who ended a string of seven consecutive losses in this series dating
back to 1999, converted eight of 10 free throws in the last minute to complete the comeback.
“It feels good to finally beat them,” said Levine, whose team used a full-court pressure
defense for most of the final period. “They have always outplayed in the past with their
intensity and toughness. We did a good job of pressuring their guards in the second half.”
Andre Heard, the Bearcats’ leading-scorer, finished with 14 points, including nine in the
opening stanza. Zoellner, a 7-foot-1, 275-pound center, was the fourth UAlbany player in
double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.
“The press was effective in the second half,” commented Wilson, whose team forced 13 of
Binghamton’s 21 turnovers after halftime. “The steals led to easy baskets, and we learned
how to grind out a win. | am happy for Kirsten (Zoellner), because he showed how good he
really is. Hopefully, this is his coming out game.

Binghamton (2-10, AE 1-2) came out firing in the first half and opened up a 31-12 advantage
with 5:55 remaining in the first half. The Bearcats canned six of their first seven three-point
attempts to fuel the run. Freshman Laura Sario was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc,
while Jen Blues drilled three straight trifectas. The Bearcats took a 32-18 lead to the locker
room.

Hutcheson added two more buckets and three free throws during the spurt as UAlbany
trimmed the gap to 49-41 with 2:23 remaining.
“We out-played them in the second half,” said UAlbany coach Trina Patterson, whose team
was playing its first home game of the season. “They protected the ball, and didn’t turn it over
enough in the second half for us to come back and win.”
After a free throw by Binghamton’s Rachel Laws, UAlbany’s Maree Jones made a three-
pointer to bring the Great Danes within six at 50-44 with 1:41 left in the game. Laws answered
right back with a three-point play to seal the win for the Bearcats.

eight boards. “We have to come out of our shells on the court and start showing what kind of
team we really are.”

MARCUS BARNES SCORES 19 IN NORTHEASTERN’S 73-70 WIN OVER UALBANY
Albany, N.Y. — Marcus Barnes scored 19 points and Jose Juan Barea added 17 in leading
Northeastern to a 73-70 America East Conference victory over UAlbany on Sunday afternoon
at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
Northeastern (7-6, AE 3-1) led 45-43 midway through the second half, but then ran off 10
of the game’s next 12 points. Barnes, a 6-foot-2 senior, hit a short jumper on the right
baseline to ignite that stretch. Barea, who added nine assists to his scoring total, canned a
pair of three-point field goals. The Huskies, who shot 63.6 percent from the field in the final
period, made 6-of-9 from beyond the arc after halftime.
UAlbany (6-7, AE 2-2) still trailed 64-54 with 5:56 remaining, but then began to chip away
at the margin. Aquawasi St. Hillaire, who had 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field,
converted a layup following Courtney Johnson’s steal to close the gap to 70-68 with 32
seconds left.
After Northeastern’s Adrian Martinez split a pair of free throws, Lucious Jordan got the
Great Danes even closer. Jordan, who led all scorers with 22 points, sank two foul shots with
7./ seconds to play in slicing the lead to 71-70. However, Barnes calmly made two more
from the line after being fouled in the backcourt, before Jordan was unable to get a good look
n a 3-pointer at the buzzer in an attempt to force overtime.
“We did not have the necessary energy on defense to win the game,” UAlbany coach Will
Brown said. “It can't be a good effort for 31 seconds on each possession; it’s got to be for 35
seconds. Barnes and Barea are good for a reason, but they had great contributions from the
other players on their team.”
The Huskies, who have won six of seven meetings in this series, and made 50.9 percent
from the floor overall, used a 17-2 run in the first half to snap an early tie. Barnes buried one
of his four 3-pointers from the left corner for a 32-17 advantage with 4:23 left in the opening
stanZa.
UAlbany was able to get back into the contest behind the play of sophomore guard Jamar
Wilson, who had 10 of his 17 points in the first half. The Great Danes trailed 34-26 at the
break, but were within one possession two minutes into the final stanza when St. Hillaire
scored in the paint from a driving Wilson.
“L was in foul trouble most of the night,” said Wilson, who missed key stretches of the
game before picked up his fifth personal with 1:36 left. “But | am happy that will still had a
chance to win with me not being on the floor. | am upset that we lost, but confident in the way
my teammates performed.”

UALBANY TAKES FIRST AMERICA EAST WIN OVER NORTHEASTERN IN OVERTIME
Boston, Mass. — Danielle Hutcheson scored 16 points, including four key free throws in the final 30
seconds of overtime to lead the UAlbany women’s basketball team to a 67-64 America East
Conference victory over Northeastern at Solomon Court on Saturday afternoon.
Hutcheson tied the game at 64 after being fouled by the Huskies’ Maralene Zwarich while grabbing
an offensive rebound. The Great Danes took the lead on Hutcheson’s second shot from the charity
Stripe.
Northeastern’s Shaleyse Smallwood missed a jumper with 5.8 seconds remaining, with Hutcheson
coming up with a key rebound in the paint. Hutcheson was fouled once again and capitalized, hitting
two shots from the line to extend the UAlbany (6-5, AE 1-1) lead.
The Huskies (5-6, 0-2), who were down by five with less than a minute to go in regulation, forced the
overtime after UAlbany’s Jen Schumacher missed the first shot of a one-and-one free throw
opportunity with under 30 seconds in regulation. Smallwood followed with a three-pointer before
Zwarich rolled in a bank shot with nine seconds left to draw the team even at 56 apiece. Alicia Learn
missed a three-point attempt for the Great Danes at the two-second mark to send the teams to the
or stanza.
Smallwood converted two consecutive baskets, followed by a Jody Barrows steal that led to a layup
by Zwarich to put the Huskies up by six early in the overtime. An offensive rebound by UAlbany’s
Maree Jones sparked the Great Danes back into offensive mode, as they rattled off an 11-2 run to
end the game.
"This is a veteran team with people who can make huge plays," said UAlbany coach Trina Patterson
about her team's comeback in overtime. "(Maree) Jones has great penetrating ability and (Jen)
Schumacher can hit big three's. We knew this would be one of those games where you have to win a
series of battles to win the war."
Learn, who hit both ends of a one-and-one during UAlbany’s run in overtime, recorded her second
double-double of the season with a 12-point, 10-rebound outing. Jones finished with 15 points and
seven boards.
"It was frustrating to be in foul trouble again at the beginning, | just tried to keep my composure,"
commented Hutcheson, who added seven rebounds for the Great Danes. "When we were down in
overtime, we just looked at each other and said let's get going. At the end, | tried to relax myself at
the line and make the shots."
Zwarich led all players with 23 points and 12 caroms. Smallwood chipped in 20 points, along with five
o7s.” and five assists. Michelle Decerbo was the third player in double figures for Northeastern
ith 13.

Durham, N.H. — Jamar Wilson scored 22 points as UAlbany posted its fifth road win of the
year with a 73-51 America East Conference victory over New Hampshire on Thursday
evening at Lundholm Gymnasium.
mM
UAlbany (6-6, AE 2-1) ripped off 14 unanswered points to take a 25-7 lead with 8:32 left in the
opening period. Brent Wilson and Jamar Wilson buried back-to-back three-pointers in that
stretch, while the Great Danes’ defense held New Hampshire (5-7, AE 1-2) scoreless for
more than five minutes. Lucious Jordan, one of four players in double figures with 14 points,
sank a pair of free throws to end that outburst.
The Great Danes, who held the Wildcats to 8-of-25 shooting in the first half, would take a 36-
18 lead to the locker room. Levi Levine tallied 11 of his 13 points in the stanza. Blagoj
Janev, who led his team with 15 points, got UNH within 46-33 with 15:23 remaining ona
three-pointer. But UAlbany pulled away for good with 13 of the game’s next 16 points. Wilson,
who made 7-of-12 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line, jumpstarted that stretch with a
jumper in the lane. He later scored on a driving one-hander in the paint.
Owe did what we needed to do,” said UAlbany coach Will Brown, whose team surpassed last
year's victory total. “We attacked their zone and didn’t settle for jump shots. We didn’t play our
best game, because we had several careless mistakes. However, we are just starting to
scratch the surface on how good we can be.”
Aquawasi St. Hillaire added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Great Danes, who are at
the .500 mark or better after the opening 12 games for the first time since 1997-98. UNH’s
Craig Walls had 12 points, while freshman Mike Christensen added 11.
“Everyone was aggressive and played their part,” said Levine, who added five rebounds and
two steals. “The program is moving forward, but we have many more things to achieve this
year.”

Durham, N.H. — Danielle Clark scored 12 points to lead New Hampshire to a 53-48 victory
over UAlbany in the America East Conference women’s basketball opener for both teams on
Wednesday evening at Lundholm Gymnasium.
New Hampshire (5-5, AE 1-0) took advantage of UAlbany’s foul trouble, as senior center and
leading scorer Danielle Hutcheson picked up her second foul five and a half minutes into the
game. With the score tied at 6-6 and Hutcheson on the bench, New Hampshire ripped off a

Wildcats connected on 47.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening period.

RASHAD BELL’S 23 POINTS LEAD BOSTON UNIVERSITY PAST UALBANY, 72-69
Albany, N.Y. — Rashad Bell scored 23 points to pace four players in double figures in leading
Boston University to a 72-69 America East Conference victory over UAlbany on Sunday
afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
UAlbany (5-6, AE 1-1) took a 50-48 lead with 9:31 to play, when Aquawasi St. Hillaire
buried a baseline jumper. Boston U. (8-3, AE 2-0) answered with seven straight points to
take the lead for good. Freshman Matt Wolff hit a layup after Tony Gaffney’s steal to put the
Terriers ahead, before Chaz Carr, who had 12 points, canned a three-point field goal off a
screen for a 55-50 advantage.
The Terriers, who shot 62.5 percent in the final period on 15-of-24 from the field, would
later lead by as much as seven points, and still were up, 70-64, on Gaffney’s slam dunk in
transition with 1:00 remaining.
UAlbany’s Brent Wilson, a freshman who had 14 points off the bench, sliced that deficit in
half with a three-pointer, before Lucious Jordan’s driving layup closed the gap to 71-69 with
11 seconds left. After Carr split a pair of free throws, Wilson misfired on a long-range jumper
in the closing moments. Boston U. has won all seven meetings in this series.
© Kevin Gardner, a 6-foot-9 junior, and Wolff netted 16 and 11 points, respectively, for the
ferriers, who shot 50 percent overall in posting their sixth road win of the season. Bell, who
made 8-of-12 from the floor, added three rebounds and three blocks.
“We had plenty of chances,” UAlbany coach Will Brown said. “They are a fine-tuned
machine. Their defense is excellent, they are patient on offense, and they do not beat
themselves. We just gave up too many easy baskets in the second half.”
Sophomore guard Jamar Wilson led the Great Danes with 21 points and handed out six
assists while playing all 40 minutes. Jordan finished with 11 points, his eleventh straight game
in double figures. The contest featured nine lead changes and eight ties, including a 25-25
deadlock at halftime.
“We had opportunities to win the game, especially if a few calls went our way or if we had
made some shots at the end,” said Wilson, who was two off his season-high total on 7-of-10
shooting. “It's encouraging that we had a chance with our freshmen producing and Levi
(Levine) and Lucious (Jordan) not having their best games.”
