UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE MAKE A-EAST TOURNAMENT FIELD WITH 16-7 VICTORY

Albany, N.Y. — Kate Fontana became the school’s all-time scoring leader with four goals and two assists in
leading UAlbany to a 16-7 America East Conference win over UMBC on Saturday afternoon at John Fallon
Field. The Great Danes earned the conference’s fourth and final postseason tournament berth with the victory.

UAlbany (7-8, AE 3-3) led 7-4 at halftime, but then reeled off eight consecutive goals over a 15-plus
minute stretch to pull away. Fontana, a senior midfielder, placed a free-position shot to the right of goalkeeper
Kate Quick before Kayla Best converted a drive from the middle of the field to ignite that decisive run.

Katelyn Primomo gave her team a 10-4 lead when she sent a free-position attempt high into the net.
Fontana, who broke the all-time scoring standard previously held by Maria Ferrucci (2000-03), and now has
189 career points, then drove from the right side, split two defenders, and rifled a shot to the far side of the
cage. Freshman Christine Grueniger delivered a pair of goals, before Stacey Brown completed the outburst by
curling inside for a 15-4 cushion with 14:26 remaining.

“The senior class deserves to be in the tournament,” said UAlbany coach Lindsey Hart, who is in her
second season at helm. “They played with confidence and have been getting better and better all year. We
have handle things on a day-to-day basis and learned how to move forward.”

UMBC (7-10, AE 2-4) trailed 4-3 with 10:51 left in the opening half after Jen Kasper spun from the left
side around a defender and scored from the edge of the crease. The Great Danes responded with back-to-
back goals. Erin Fitzmartin’s caused a turnover in the defensive half of the field which led to a fastbreak goal

@:: Rory Redmond, who finished off Jane Bush’s feed. Fontana, who has scored three or more goals seven

imes this season, then beat a couple of Retriever defenders on a drive before sending a blast into the top left
corner.

“We had a great week of practice and all the seniors played well today,” explained Fontana, whose
team missed last year’s America East postseason after qualifying in 2004 and 2005. “Our offense is working
well together. We feel comfortable with each other, especially our driving and passing. We were so much
faster than they were; we always had one person open.”

Freshman Kayla Best totaled three goals and one assist for the Great Danes, who will play in the
conference semifinals on May 4 at the highest seed’s home facility. Redmond and Grueniger each scored
twice, while goalkeeper Jen Daly made nine saves. UMBC’s Abbey Swift had two goals, both in the final
period. Kelly Fahey and Kasper each added one goal and two assists.

UALBANY RALLIES IN FINAL TWO MINUTES FOR 15-14 VICTORY OVER DARTMOUTH

For Immediate Release For Further Information
April 24, 2007 Brian DePasquale / 518-442-3072

Albany, N.Y. — Frank Resetarits scored the game-winning goal with 6.5 seconds remaining, as UAlbany
mounted an improbable comeback over the final two minutes for a 15-14 victory over Dartmouth on Tuesday
afternoon at John Fallon Field.

Dartmouth (4-8) reversed a 12-10 deficit in the final period with four unanswered in a six-minute-and-
three-second span. Sophomore Brian Koch, who had five goals and two assists, netted back-to-back shots to
tie the contest. Freshman attacker Ari Sussman, who totaled four goals and one assist, put his team ahead
when he scored in transition following a turnover. The Big Green, who nearly upset third-ranked Virginia last
Saturday, then took a two-goal lead with 3:52 remaining, as midfielder Wilson Handler cut to the middle and
finished off Koch’s feed into the left side of the cage.

UAlbany (12-1) closed the gap when Derek Dale picked up a ground ball and sent a pass to Resetarits
in front of the cage. The Great Danes, who were coming off a 17-13 loss at Syracuse four days ago, then
scored twice in the final minute to pull out the victory. Following a failed clear by the Big Green, UAlbany’s

Jordan Levine fed Resetarits who sent a shot into the left side of the net to draw his team even at 14 apiece

with 50.6 seconds to play. After Levine won the subsequent face-off, the scoring combination worked again.

The junior midfielder reversed to his left and found Resetarits who again placed a shot to the left of goalkeeper
Michael Novosel on the winning play.

“Derek Dale probably saved the game for us when he got that ground ball,” said Resetarits, who has
scored four or more goals in six games this season for the nation’s sixth-ranked team. “Jordan (Levine) did all

@:: the work on that last play. We knew we didn’t play well and were not getting to ground balls.”

In the third quarter, Sussman gave Dartmouth a 7-6 lead when he converted Koch’s crossing pass. But
the Great Danes responded with three goals in a 38-second stretch. Senior attacker Merrick Thomson, who

tied a season-best with five goals and added two assists, had a pair in that run, including an empty-net goal
when the goalkeeper was stripped of the ball. Corey Small’s unassisted goal following a successful clear
completed the outburst. :

UAlbany pushed their margin to three goals with 1:59 left in the third period, wnen Thomson sent a

blast from the right side inside the far post for his 38th of the season. But the Big Green sliced the deficit to 11-
10 early in the final period. Doug Rendall beat the third-quarter horn when he drove in from the right side.
Sussman scored from right of the crease off a pass from Nick Bonacci with 54 seconds elapsed in the final
period.

“We ran an open play at the end,” said Levine, who left the game for nearly two quarters after suffering
from dehydration. “Frank is one of the best finishers in college lacrosse and we just wanted to take advantage
of his ability to score quickly. This is a huge win because we want to start the postseason on a high note.”

Resetarits finished with a career-high seven goals, including five in the final 18-plus minutes of play,
and added one assist, while Small had two goals and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Dan McKeon, who
made his first start as a collegian for the injured Brett Queener, made a career-high 13 saves. Dartmouth’s
Jonathan Livadas added two goals and one assist.

“It's great when your best player steps up at the right time,” said UAlbany coach Scott Marr, who team
dropped a 12-9 decision to Dartmouth one year ago. “It was a heckuva win after Friday’s disappointing loss at
Syracuse. Things were not going our way and we played poorly at times, but we still found a way to win.”

SOFTBALL DROPS RUBBER MATCH TO AMERICA EAST FOE HARTFORD, 2-1

Albany, N.Y. - Sophomore left fielder Kristen Cericola drove a solo home run over the left field fence in helping
Hartford to a 2-1 win over UAlbany in America East Conference softball action on Sunday afternoon at Albany
Field. The teams split the series-opening doubleheader on Saturday.

Cericola knocked her homer in the top of the second inning to give Hartford (18-18, AE 9-4) an early
advantage. The Hawks scored what would prove to be the winning run in the top of the fifth, as second
baseman Amanda Dilworth recorded a base hit to advance Michelle Mariano, who then scored on a UAlbany
error.

UAlbany (21-13, AE 6-7) would have chances in the final two innings, but could only manage one run
on a solo homer by shortstop Meagan Butsch. The Great Danes had the go-ahead run on second base in the
bottom of the seventh, but strong pitching by Hartford’s Brittney Stratton induced a fly out by Michelle Connors
to get the final out of the game.

Stratton tossed a complete game, fanning three and walking one in a seven-inning performance.
UAlbany’s Casey Halloran also went the distance, striking out eight opposing batters and walking three. Left
fielder Amber Maisonet finished with three hits for the Great Danes.

MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS TO SYRACUSE, 17-13, FOR FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

Syracuse, N.Y. — Mike Leveille tied a career-high with five goals and added two assists in leading Syracuse
past UAlbany, 17-13, in a battle of top-20 teams before 5,384 fans at the Carrier Dome on Friday evening.

Freshman Max Bartig snapped a 13-13 deadlock with 1:06 remaining when he sent a blast to the far
side of the net off a pass from the middle by Leveille. Syracuse (5-6) kept its NCAA at-large berth hopes alive
with a three-goal third quarter. Leveille, who established a career-high with seven points, had one goal and
one assist in the final period. He finished off a fastbreak that was started by defenseman Steve Panarelli, who
scooped up a ground ball and found Kenny Nims near midfield.

UAlbany (11-1) scored four consecutive goals to take a 12-11 lead midway through the third period.
Frank Resetarits, who had five goals and one assist, found the net three straight times to put his team ahead.
He stole a clearing pass and drove to the cage to tie the contest, and then placed a shot through the
goalkeeper's legs.

The Orange, who have won all five meetings in this series, including last year's overtime decision,
would later go back in front on Dan Hardy's extra-man goal, his third of the game. SU's Greg Niewieroski
added three goals. Jordan Levine and Merrick Thomson each scored three times for the Great Danes, who
entered the contest ranked second in the USILA national poll.

"We knew how good they were because they played Cornell to a one-goal game,” said Levine.

“They have a good offense and controlled the face-offs. They gave their best effort. We're disappointed but
we have many games to play yet this season."

©} In an expected offensive shootout, the first half produced scoring runs by both teams. The Orange ran
O

ff four unanswered to take an 8-3 lead with 14:00 minutes left in the second quarter. Matt Abbott fired a shot
over the goalkeeper's left shoulder as Danny Brennan won the period's opening faceoff. Greg Rommel
finished off a transition play 51 seconds later after SU goalkeeper Peter Coluccini robbed UAlbany's Derek
Dale.

The Great Danes ripped off five straight to draw even at eight apiece. Thomson scored off a rebound
for his third goal of the half. Resetarits then netted back-to-back goals, the second as he rolled to the net and
connected off Levine's feed. Syracuse broke the tie with three goals over the final three minutes of the stanza.
Mike MacDonald hit the top right corner, before Niewieroski and Levielle scored seven seconds apart for an
11-8 halftime lead.

“We made mistakes at crucial times and gave them second and third chances,” said UAlbany head
coach Scott Marr. “We just had too many turnovers. With that said, we were still in a position to win the game.
We fought hard to get back into the game on several occasions. We just needed a few breaks to go our way."

MEN’S LACROSSE SETS SCHOOL RECORDS IN 14-7 AMERICA EAST WIN OVER VERMONT

Burlington, Vt. — Frank Resetarits and Merrick Thomson combined for six second-half goals as UAlbany
posted its eleventh straight win in a 14-7 America East Conference victory over Vermont on Saturday
afternoon at Moulton Winder Field. UAlbany (11-0, AE 4-0) established school records for consecutive
victories and most wins in a season.

Vermont (3-9, AE 0-3) built a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter behind the play of senior
goalkeeper Daryl Swarts, who totaled 20 saves. Alex Young and Adam Kornuth scored unassisted in the
first quarter, before Pete Hein tallied the first of his two goals with 12:50 remaining before halftime. The
Great Danes, who also trailed in the first half in their previous game against Yale, were able to draw even
by halftime on goals by Resetarits and Derek Dale.

UAlbany exploded with a nine-goal third quarter to take control of the contest. The Great Danes
ripped the net seven straight times in a four-minute-and 37-second span. Jordan Levine, who had two
goals and one assist, scored as he took an unnecessary roughness penalty. Corey Small connected 10
seconds later in a man-advantage situation. Dan Barnes then won the subsequent face-off that led to
defenseman Craig McDonald’s unassisted goal.

Thomson, who scored three times and had two assists, played a role in all four of his team’s goals
that led to a 10-3 advantage with 8:23 left in the third period. He set up Resetarits with a nifty pass and
then followed 14 seconds later off Dale’s feed. Resetarits, the nation’s second-leading scorer, finished

eo" four goals and one assist.

UVM's Trevor Wagar tallied the second of his two goals with 1:26 remaining in the third stanza to
slice the deficit to 11-6. But John Alpizar and Resetarits followed with back-to-back goals to seal the
outcome for the Great Danes, who are ranked No. 2 nationally in the USILA poll and No. 3 by Nike/Inside
Lacrosse.

“Their goalkeeper made a ton of good saves and they were beating us to ground balls in the first
half,” said Resetarits, whose team eclipsed the program’s previous consecutive win streak that was
established in 1972. “We played with more emotion in the second half. It’s nice that we are
accomplishing things, but we still want to play as far as into the month of May as possible.”

Small finished with two goals, while Alpizar and Dale each scored once and assisted on another.
The Great Danes, who won for 11th time this season by outshooting their opponent, 55-31, play at
Syracuse on Friday, April 20. UAlbany previously won 10 games on four occasions in the 1992, 2003,
2004 and 2005 campaigns.

“We raised our level in the second half and played with more of a sense of urgency,” UAlbany
coach Scott Marr said. “(Dan) Barnes won a lot of face-offs in that run and we passed the ball well. Our
opponents look at us as a great opportunity. We handled it well again today, didn’t panic, and stuck with
our game plan.”

11 minutes of the final period. Becky Kenison, who did all of her scoring in the second half, had two of her

Haigh, before Kristen Millar tallied from the top of the crease on pass from behind the cage by Emilie
Clark.

position attempt.

Wednesday, sliced the lead to two goals when Millar netted her 36th of the season with a blast over the
goalkeeper’s head in a free-position situation. Best, who totaled two goals and one assist, then pushed
the margin up to 11-8 with 5:45 to play. She scooped up a loose ball and scored off a rebound after UVM
goalkeeper Meaghan Hanley made one of her 19 saves.

The Great Danes reversed a 2-1 deficit in the opening half by reeling off four unanswered.
Fontana, who accounted for all of her points in the period, put her team ahead with a drive in the middle of
the field and then switching to her left hand on the finish. Rory Redmond added one of her two goals for a
5-2 advantage. Fontana, who added five caused turnovers, had a hand in a pair of goals over the last five

Goines of the stanza. The senior midfielder found the net off a rebound in front of the cage, before

NO. 2 VALBANY REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH A 12-10 WIN OVER YALE

New Haven, Conn. — Merrick Thomson had three goals and one assist as UAlbany held off Yale, 12-10, for its
tenth consecutive win on Wednesday evening at Reese Stadium.

UAlbany (10-0) snapped a 9-9 tie with four seconds left in the third quarter when Frank Resetarits
placed a shot inside the right post. Thomson gave his team a two-goal cusihion by scoring from the top of the
crease following a successful clear with 59 seconds elapsed in the fourth quarter. Yale (4-5) closed the gap
seven minutes later on James Ryan's goal. But Corey Small answered with 3:57 left as he spun to left and
rifled a shot into the right side of the cage.

Yale reversed a 4-2 deficit with three unanswered to take the lead after the first quarter. Chris
Kempner's extra-man started that run. Kyle Washabaugh put his team ahead from in front of the crease when
the ball barely crossed the goal mouth. The Great Danes reeled off three straight in the opening two-plus
minutes of the second period. Thomson finished off Derek Dale's pass from behind to regain the lead. Small
then blasted a 12-yard shot to the right of the goalkeeper 17 seconds later after his team won the subsequent
face-off.

“| give them credit, they didn't give us an inch to breath,” said UAlbany head coach Scott Marr. “Our
defense was outstanding despite the fact that they were on the field for a long time. That was a huge goal by
Frank (Resetarits) at the end of the third quarter. Our best players made plays at the right time."

The Bulldogs, who have dropped three straight by two goals or less, trailed 9-6 in the third quarter, but
rallied with three straight in a three-minute-17-second span. Kempner, who had three goals and two assists,
ignited that run by hitting the top right corner. Gregory DuBoff later drew his team even by winning a face-off

@ finishing off the drive to the net.

“They played inspired and came out hard in the first quarter,” said UAlbany goalkeeper Brett Queener.
“We kept our composure and had to fight for the win. They didn't give it to us. We lost our concentration for
awhile, but then we communicated better on defense."

Yale's Brendan Gibson had two goals, while goalkeeper George Carafides made nine saves.

Resetarits and Small scored twice for the Great Danes, who tied the program's longest win streak set in 1972.
UAlbany is ranked No. 2 in the USILA coaches' poll.

UALBANY BEGINS SPRING FOOTBALL PRACTICE ON MONDAY, APRIL 9

For Immediate Release For Further Information
April 5, 2007 Brian DePasquale / 518-442-3072

Albany, N.Y. — UAlbany posted a pair of top-25 wins and tied for second in the Northeast Conference
standings in 2006. But the Great Danes want to win a championship as they prepare for their ninth season at
the NCAA Division | Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) level. That quest begins with
the start of spring practice on Monday, April 9, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., at the Western Avenue Practice Fields on
campus. UAlbany will conduct 15 NCAA-allowed spring workouts. The scheduled dates are: April 9, 10, 11,
13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30 and May 2.

Head coach Bob Ford has 49 letterwinners, including 11 starters, back from a team that finished 7-4
overall. Once again, spring practice provides the coaching staff with an opportunity to evaluate personnel and
work on the fundamentals of the game.

“We need to identify our two starting cornerbacks and establish Frank Blasinsky as our quarterback,"
explains Ford, who has a 217-158-1 career record in 38 varsity seasons at the collegiate level. "Our receivers
struggled last year with catching the football, so we need to bring that group along. We will be taking a long
look at our kickers, Snappers and punt units on special teams."

Ford continues, "We are not in bad shape defensively, but we want to solidify our defensive line rotation and
be better in man coverage."

OFFENSE: Coach Ford is making changes on an offense that ranked sixth in scoring and seventh in total
yards among the NEC leaders. Daniel Bocanegra, last year's starting quarterback, will move to flanker and

Qo on special teams as a returner. Sophomore Frank Blasinsky has been installed in the No. 1 spot. He
played in nine games as a true freshman, throwing for 258 yards and one touchdown. Ford has help on the
way with three incoming freshman QBs.

The Great Danes will have to replace three all-conference offensive linemen. But both starting guards are
back in Sam Pagano (6-3, 305) and Jeff Wentzell (6-4, 295). Pagano was named to the Football Gazette |-
FCS All-America Team as an honorable mention selection. Raphael Nguti (6-6, 330) is ready to continue a
long-standing tradition of great tackles.

Omar Johnson is the top returning rusher with 435 yards and seven touchdowns. Johnson, a senior
tailback, is among the school's all-time leaders with 17 career rushing TDs. Colin Simmons, who like
Johnson will sit out spring workouts while recovering from off-season surgery, ran for 215 yards as a freshman.
Sophomores Justin Gannon and David McCarty will get most of the carries during the month of April.
Fullback Dan Beigel (6-2, 230) has been productive throughout his career. He ran for 160 yards and one
score last season.

lrani DeAraujo and Mike Wall started at split end and flanker, respectively, last year. DeAraujo had a
team-high 28 receptions for 270 yards. Mike Wall, who earned AIl-NEC honors as a kick returner, hauled in

15 passes for 217 yards and two TDs. Chris Lore (6-3, 260) is the likely starter at tight end with his blocking
ability.

DEFENSE: The Great Danes are coming off their best defensive campaign since moving to Division I-FCS.
UAlbany ranked among the top-five nationally in three categories, including points allowed at 13.0 per game.
Colin Disch is about to become the school's all-time tackles leader as he enters his senior campaign.

Disch is the team's most decorated individual as he made the AFCA (first team) and Football Gazette (third

team) All-America squads. He was also voted mid-major linebacker of the year and the NEC's top defender for
the second year in a row. Disch reached the 100-tackle mark for the third straight season (103) with his
@vickness and speed.
Trevor DuPoint (6-1, 220) and Mark Peretore (6-1, 230) were solid outside linebackers last season.
DuPont made 34 tackles and scored on an interception return. Peretore was fourth on the team in tackles
(48), including 25 unassisted.

MORE

UAlbany Sports 2-2-2

® UAlbany's defensive line performed at a high level throughout the season. Defensive tackle Michael

ungey (6-2, 275) earned All-Northeast recognition and was a first-team AIl-NEC choice. He accounted for 34
tackles, including eight for a loss. Defensive ends Jon Volpe (6-1, 260) and Mark Sheehan (6-2, 255) were in
the line's rotation. Tackle Tom Pandolf (6-0, 260) was the team's most improved player with 29 tackles and
4.0 sacks.

Graduation wiped out most of UAlbany's starting secondary. Cornerbacks Jean Juste (13 tackles) and L.B.
McCloskey (10 tackles) each saw significant time last year. Dave Casale and Dave West will get an
opportunity at the free safety position. Safety Dave Nicomini is a physical defender, who had 51 tackles and
two interceptions as a sophomore.

KICKING GAME: Junior Chris Lynch earned first-team all-conference honors after averaging 38.8 yards per
punt. Lynch, who handled the place-kicking duties as a freshman, and Rob Wood are the kicking candidates.

who plays for the Michigan Elite program, was also a member of the Ann Arbor News all-area squad.
“She can hit with power and has great shots as well,” Sheffield said. “She’s got a very good jump
serve that can score for points.”

, Cowdrey represented Canada at the 2006 Under-19 Beach World Championships. She
played for the national beach champions and on a pair of provincial winners. Cowdrey, the 2005

COLGATE ENDS UALBANY LACROSSE’S WIN STREAK IN 11-8 NON-LEAGUE DECISION

Hamilton, N.Y. — Sophomore midfielder Ashley Didio had three goals and one assist, all in the
opening half, as Colgate held off UAlbany, 11-8, on Tuesday evening at Tyler’s Field. The Great
Danes had their four-game winning streak halted.

Colgate (4-8) came out firing with five goals in first seven-plus minutes. Tara Casey, who
totaled three goals and one assist, ignited that outburst by setting up Katie Holland and then scoring
unassisted. Didio gave her team a 5-0 lead after UAlbany goalkeeper Jen Daly initially stopped
Holland's blast.

Casey, an All-Patriot League midfielder, improved her team’s advantage to 10-2 with nearly
eight minutes elapsed in the second half when she converted a free-position chance. But UAlbany
(5-5) came back with five unanswered over a four-minute-and-10 second span. Kate Fontana scored
two of her three goals in that stretch. Kayla Best (Guilderland) later converted a free-position shot,
before Fontana won the subsequent draw that led to Brittany Scott's goal seven seconds later.

The Great Danes, who tied their Division | mark for consecutive wins prior to the game, had
two more opportunities to get even closer than the 10-7 deficit. But Raider goalkeeper Sara Drexler
saved a free-position opportunity and UAlbany’s Sarah Spillett hit the post over the next four minutes.
Drexler, a sophomore, made five of her 11 saves down the stretch. Colgate has won four of its last
six after opening with six straight losses.

© UAlbany’s Erin Fitzmartin finished with two goals and one assist, while goalkeeper Jen Daly
turned aside nine shots. Fontana, a senior midfielder, now has 173 career points and needs 12 away
from becoming the school’s career leader.

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. — Nicole Kothe and Michelle Connors (Shenendehowa) hit back-to-back home runs in the
nightcap’s sixth inning to lead UAlbany to a non-conference doubleheader sweep against Marist on Tuesday
afternoon at Gartland Athletic Field. The Great Danes won the first game, 7-2, and the second, 2-1.

Marist (8-22) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the second contest. Shortstop Melissa Giordano led
off with a double and later came across on another two-bagger by Jessica Green. UAlbany (16-8) rallied with
consecutive homers in the sixth. Kothe belted her first of the season over the right-field fence before Connors
followed with a solo shot, her fourth of the year, to left.

Freshman right-hander Leah McIntosh improved to 5-3 on the mound by recording a season-high 12
strikeouts with no walks. She worked out of potential trouble in the last inning, when Green singled and moved
