UALBANY GETS BACK ON WINNING TRACK WITH 4-2 VICTORY OVER LIU

Albany, N.Y. — Lisa Klarmann led a sweep of the top three singles matches as UAlbany
defeated Long Island, 4-2, in an abbreviated match on Friday evening at the UAlbany Bubble.

Klarmann and Kim Weltman recorded straight-set victories at first and second singles, as
UAlbany improved to 8-2 this season. Courtney Michels dropped the first set, before rallying
for a win at No. 3 singles. Aimee Kern earned the fourth and deciding point for the Great
Danes with a 6-0, 6-1 decision.

Ashley Harvey and Amy Hosotsuji registered singles wins for the Blackbirds.

UALBANY SOFTBALL SWEEPS BINGHAMTON TO OPEN AMERICA EAST PLAY

Albany, N.Y. — Casey Halloran (Columbia) allowed only one run in two games of work to lead
UAlbany softball to a sweep of Binghamton in the America East Conference opener for both
teams at Albany Field on Friday afternoon. The Great Danes downed the Bearcats 10-1 in the
first game of the day and recorded a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap.

UAlbany (17-3-1, AE 2-0) scored five runs in the bottom of the first to reverse a 1-0
deficit. That rally which was capped by back-to-back doubles by Laura Gremillion and
Meagan Butsch, who drove in a combined three runs in the inning.

Ashley Rios blasted a grand slam to centerfield with no outs in the second inning to
give the Great Danes a commanding 9-1 lead. Rios, who recorded her first homer of the
season on that play, finished with five RBI in the day’s first game.

Binghamton (4-17, AE 0-2) saw its only run of the day come on a solo shot by Rose
Barre in the first inning of the 10-1 loss. Halloran, who earned a win in each game to improve

@° 12-2 with a 0.89 ERA on the season, baffled the Bearcats, holding them to four hits in her
next 10 innings of work.

The Great Danes took an early 1-0 lead in the nightcap on a leadoff homer by Maegan
Larsen. The team would add four more in the fifth, capped by an RBI double by Amber
Maisonet and an RBI single by Kelly Ogden.

UAlbany is slated to close out the season series with Binghamton on Saturday at 11:00
a.m. The final game was moved due to weather concerns.

UALBANY SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH CROSSTOWN-RIVAL SIENA

Loudonville, N.Y. - Maegan Larsen was one of three UAlbany players who hit home runs as
the Great Danes slugged their way past Siena, 9-0, in the first game of a non-conference
women’s softball doubleheader at Siena Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints edged
UAlbany, 11-10, in the second game of the day. The Great Danes maintain a 10-9 lead in the
all-time series with the Saints.

UAlbany (15-3-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the first game when
Ali Meacham singled up the middle to plate third baseman Kelly Ogden. The Great Danes
broke things open in the next inning, when Larsen smacked a two-run homer, her team-
leading fifth of the season, over the left field fence. Ogden followed two batters later with her
first round-tripper of the season to drive in two and make the score 5-0 after five frames.

The Great Danes would add four insurance runs in the top of the sixth, including a
leadoff home run by Leanne Tillman, her first this season and second of her career. Pinch
hitter Katie Desimone capped that relay with a two-run double. Casey Halloran (Columbia)
hurled six innings of two-hit ball en route to her 10th win and fourth shutout of the season,

In the second game of the day, Siena (7-18) rallied from an 8-7 deficit with two outs in

@"° seventh inning as junior Kelly Boyle hit a game-winning two-run homer to left field. Boyle,
who started off the scoring for the Saints with a grand slam in the first inning, finished with six
RBI on the day.

Ogden led the Great Danes’ offense with five RBI in the two-game set. Larsen, who
finished 4-for-4 at the plate in Game 1, drove in three to add to her team-leading 19 RBI on
the season. Amber Maisonet blasted her second home run of the season in the nightcap,
finishing 3-for-3 in that game.

UAlbany opens America East Conference play with a homestand against Binghamton
this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00.

FIVE UALBANY ATHLETES NAMED TO AMERICA EAST ALL-ACADEMIC SQUAD

Boston, Mass. — Andy Allstadt leads a group of five University at Albany track and field
athletes that were named to the America East Conference 2006 Winter All-Academic teams.
Allstadt, the 2006 Track Performer of the Year, is joined by Alyssa Lotmore (Bishop
Maginn), Jillian Sherman (Academy of the Holy Names), Adanna Andrews and Sarah

Charles.

Allstadt captured both the 3,000-meter run and the 5,000m en route to helping the UAlbany
men win their third America East indoor title in the last four years. He boasts the highest
grade-point average on the conference’s academic squad with a 3.90.

Lotmore, a junior, set a school record in the 5,000m in finishing third at the conference meet.
She leads the female Great Danes with a 3.82 GPA, which is the second-highest on the
conference team behind Maine’s Erin Hatch. Sherman posted third-place finishes in both the

95-meter hurdles and long jump to help the UAlbany women to a second-place finish at the
championship meet. Andrews won the 500m, while Charles placed third in the triple jump.

cumulative 3.00 GPA entering the season, plus finish in the top three in his or her event(s) at
the conference championship.

UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY ANNOUNCES 2006 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

Albany, N.Y. -- University at Albany Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy announced today the
school's football schedule for 2006. The Great Danes, who tied for third in the Northeast Conference standings
last year, will play seven games against conference opposition. The non-league schedule features 2003 na-
tional champion Delaware, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, and a first-ever meeting with Cornell.
UAlbany opens with consecutive Patriot League opponents in Lehigh and Fordham.

The Great Danes begin on the road for the sixth time in the last eight years against Lehigh on Saturday,
Sept. 2. The Mountain Hawks were ranked in the top-25 in both national polls in 2005. Fourteen starters return,
including three All-Patriot League performers, for a program that has won eight or more games in eight straight
seasons. UAlbany will meet Fordham in the home opener at University Field on Sept. 9. Kickoff is 6:00 p.m.
Former Central Connecticut State mentor Tom Masella is in his first season as the Rams' head coach. He has
four all-league players back, including 1,000-yard rusher James Prydatko.

UAlbany will travel to both Delaware (Sept. 16) and Cornell (Sept. 30). The Blue Hens, who are coming

6. a 6-5 campaign, captured back-to-back Atlantic 10 Conference championships in 2003 and 2004. All-
America running back Omar Cuff, who ran for 1,205 yards and 14 touchdowns, will be a candidate for the
Walter Payton Award. Cornell finished with a 6-4 record in 2005, including a season-ending triumph over
Pennsylvania. Luke Siwula, a first-team All-lvy League selection, posted six 100-yard rushing games.

St. Francis, Pa. will be the opponent for Homecoming and Family Weekend on Oct. 21. NEC-rivals
Central Connecticut State (Sept. 23), Wagner (Oct. 28) and Monmouth (Nov. 11) also visit University Field. All
four home games start at 4:00 p.m.

Bob Ford, who is second among active Division I-AA coaches with 210 career victories, has 40
letterwinners, including 17 starters, back from last year's UAlbany squad. Colin Disch, the NEC's top defender
and Football Gazette's mid-major linebacker of the year, tops the list of returnees. Defensive end Andre
Coleman and defensive tackle Michael Dungey also earned all-conference recognition on a defensive unit that
ranked 11th nationally in scoring defense (17.6 ppg). AIl-NEC offensive linemen Jacob Anderson and Sam

Pagano are members of an offense that basically returns intact. Quarterbacks Daniel Bocanegra and Brett Hall
split time in their first year as starters last season.

FOUR UALBANY TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES EARN AMERICA EAST ACCOLADES

Boston, Mass. — Junior Burnett and Jenna Ortman were named the America East
Conference Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week as announced by the
conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Marc Pallozzi (Waterford, N.Y.) and Ritshell
Verdier were tabbed the conference’s co-field performers on the men’s and women’s side,
respectively.

Burnett captured the 100-meter dash at the Puerto Rico Spring Break Classic on March 18.
He anchored the 4x400m relay which set a school record with an IC4A-qualifying time of
3:12.33, and he was also part of the 4x100m relay also reached the IC4A standard. Burnett
won the 400m at Army’s Dick Shea Open on March 25 and also posted a third-place finish in
the 200m.

Ortman, who won the 1500m in Puerto Rico, also placed third in the 800m to qualify for
USAT&F Junior Nationals in both events. She also ran the second leg of the winning 4x400m
relay. Ortman claimed the 800m title at Army in a time of 2:16.32.

@Paliozzi started the outdoor season by shattering his own school record with a javelin throw of
217-feet, 3-inches at the Puerto Rico Classic, which qualified him for the NCAA Regional. His
mark ranks third in the nation this season. At Army, Pallozzi won the javelin for the second
Straight meet with a throw of 207-feet, 10-inches.

Verdier won the discus and set a new school record with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 138-
feet, 11-inches at Army last weekend. Verdier also captured the shot put at Army after
recording second-place showings in both events at the Puerto Rico Classic.

LISA KLARMANN TABBED AMERICA EAST TENNIS PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Boston, Mass. — Freshman Lisa Klarmann was voted the America East Conference

Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday
afternoon.

Klarmann went 2-0 in singles matches last week, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Hartford
and a 6-2, 7-6 decision versus New Hampshire. She teamed with Courtney Michels for a 2-0
showing at first doubles with a pair of 8-1 victories.

Klarmann is 10-1 overall, including 4-0 this spring, while her and Michels stand at 10-1 in
@rouvies action. The Great Danes, who have won four straight, have posted their best spring

UALBANY EXTENDS MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH WILL BROWN'S CONTRACT
Brown Will Serve as the Great Danes' Mentor Through the 2010-11 Season

Albany, N.Y. -- University at Albany Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy announced today that
the school has agreed to terms on a five-year contract for head men's basketball coach Will Brown. The new
agreement will make him UAlbany's head coach through at least the 2010-11 season.

In his fifth season as head coach, Brown guided the Great Danes to their first-ever America East Con-
ference regular-season and tournament championships. UAlbany posted a 21-11 record in reaching the NCAA
Tournament for the first time as a Division | program.

“Will Brown and his staff have done an excellent job of building a young Division | basketball program,"
McElroy said. "Our student-athletes are following the right path both academically and athletically. The team
accomplished many historical things this season. The foundation has been laid for the program to be success-
@° for years to come, something that our students, alumni and fans can enjoy with great pride."

Brown was appointed as UAlbany's head coach on March 13, 2002. At age 34, he ranks 11th among
the youngest Division | head coaches in the nation. In 2004-05, the Great Danes made great strides with a 13-
15 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the America East Conference. That trend continued this season
when UAlbany set the program's Division | record for single-season victories (21) and posted its highest win
total since the 1993-94 campaign. UAlbany's many accomplishments include the most America East Confer-
ence wins (13), most Division | home victories (10), most Division | away wins (8), and the first postseason
triumph since 1995.

“lam grateful to the University at Albany for the opportunity and support that | have received," Brown
said. "My student-athletes and assistant coaches have worked hard to get the program to where it currently

DARTMOUTH RALLIES PAST UALBANY, 12-9, INMEN’S LACROSSE ACTION

Hanover, N.H. — Brad Heritage and Jamie Coffin each scored twice in a second-half run, as
Dartmouth rallied for a 12-9 non-league victory over No. 15 UAlbany on Monday afternoon at
Scully-Fahey Field.

Dartmouth (4-2) trailed 9-6 midway through the third quarter, but then reeled off three
goals in a span of three minutes and 53 seconds. Heritage, a senior attacker, tallied one of
his four goals with 4:09 remaining in the period before Coffin drew his team even 37 seconds
later off a pass from Nick Bonacci, who handed out a career-high seven assists.

Coffin, who had three goals and one assist, gave his team the lead for good early in the
fourth quarter. Heritage provided the Big Green a two-goal advantage with 8:22 remaining in
the contest. Alex Hufnagel, who scored twice, then connected right after a 30-second man-
advantage situation expired.

UAlbany (4-3) trailed 5-4 in the second period before running off four unanswered goals
to end the half. Jim Stankard’s man-up goal put the Great Danes in front. Chris
Martocchia, who totaled three goals and one assist, followed more than one minute later,
before Frank Resetarits converted in transition with 22 seconds left before the intermission.

@ Resetarits, the America East Conference’s top scorer, finished with two goals and two

ssists. Goalkeeper Brett Queener had 16 saves for the Great Danes, who had their three-
game win streak halted. The Big Green, who was playing its home opener, was coming off a
12-goal loss to No. 4 Maryland just six days ago.

JEN DALY NAMED AMERICA EAST WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFENDER OF THE WEEK

Boston, Mass. — Junior goalkeeper Jen Daly has been named the America East Conference

Defender of the Week in women’s lacrosse as announced by the conference office on
Monday afternoon. It is Daly’s first award of the season and second of her career.

Daly tied her season-high with 13 saves in a 10-6 victory over Le Moyne last Wednesday.
She added four ground balls and caused one turnover as the team continued its best start in
its Division | history. Daly registered 13 saves and corralled two ground balls in the team’s

America East opener against UMBC on Sunday.

Daly, the school’s career saves leader, ranks first among America East goalkeepers with a
7.13 goals against average and a .575 save percentage. She has allowed six goals or less in
four of seven games this season. Her 73 saves rank 12th on the program’s single-season

chart.
UAlbany (5-3, AE O-1) returns to action on Tuesday at No. 14 Syracuse.

Boston, Mass. — Junior catcher Tom Hill was named the America East Conference Player of
the Week in baseball as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Redshirt-
freshman infielder Sean Donovan shared rookie of the week honors with Binghamton’s Jeff

Dennis.

Hill batted .500 (6-for-12) in four games against Yale last weekend and walked four times. He
belted three home runs, drove in nine and scored six runs. Hill, who has homered in five of his
last six games, has a nine-game hit streak and is batting .406 with five homers and 14 RBI in
that stretch. He leads the Great Danes with a .359 average, five round trippers and 17 RBI

this season.

In his only start of the series, Donovan went 3-for-5 with five RBI and set a single-game
school record with three triples in helping the Great Danes earn a series split with Yale in a
17-5 rout on Sunday. He delivered a two-out, bases-clearing triple in the first and drove in two
more with a three-bagger down the right-field line as part of a seven-run fourth. Donovan is
batting .270 with one homer this season and is tied for fourth on the team with 10 RBI. He
leads the Great Danes with three triples and is slugging .514.

DONOVAN SETS SCHOOL RECORD AS UALBANY EARNS SPLIT OF WEEKEND SET

Albany, N.Y. — Freshman Sean Donovan set a single-game school record with three triples
and drove in five runs to lead UAlbany to a 17-5 win over Yale in the nightcap of a
doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the fifth
inning of game one and held off a late UAlbany rally to earn a 7-5 victory. The two teams split
the four-game, weekend series with the Great Danes taking the first and last games and Yale
winning the middle two.
The first game was scoreless going into the fifth, wnen the Bulldogs struck for the first five
runs of the game. With two outs, Yale (11-8) strung together seven consecutive hits, including
a two-run double by catcher P.J. GorynskKi.
The Great Danes came back with two in the bottom half of the frame on a sacrifice fly by
Leo Corvino (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and an RBI single by Steve Wyland. The Bulldogs led
7-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, but the Great Danes cut the deficit in half on a double
by Corvino and a single by Tom Hill. UAlbany had the tying runs in scoring position with one
out, but pinch hitter Nate Olson flied out and Rashad Barksdale popped up.
In the second game, Donovan drove in three in the first with a bases-clearing triple.
UAlbany (6-14) led 6-3 and blew the game open with seven in the fourth. Hill, who extended
6.1; hit streak to nine games, delivered an RBI single, while Donovan plated two with his
second triple of the game. In the fifth, Hill hit his fourth home run of the weekend and
Donovan set the school mark with a triple down the right-field line.
Nick Murphy struck out five over five innings to earn his first win of the year for the Great
Danes. Steve Sayre (East Greenbush, N.Y.) broke out of a slump with eight hits in 15 at bats

in the series.

UMBC’s LATE GOAL DOWNS UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE IN A-EAST OPENER

Baltimore, Md. — Kara Dorr scored the game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining as
UMBC downed UAlbany, 9-8, in America East Conference women’s lacrosse action on
Sunday afternoon at UMBC Stadium. The contest was the conference opener for both teams.

UAlbany (5-3, AE 0-1) reversed an early deficit by scoring three straight goals to gain
the 3-1 advantage with 22:09 left in the first stanza. Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville), who
led the Great Danes with five points on three tallies and two assists, scored the first goal of
the rally as Sarah Spillett earned an assist on the play.

UMBC (5-4, AE 1-0) battled back with three goals in a stretch of nearly 12 minutes to
grab a 4-3 lead with 2:08 to play in the first half. However, Rajczak would add her second
goal of the day, an unassisted shot, to tie the contest at four apiece. Nikki Donohue followed
by converting a pass from Julie Bush with 1:01 on the clock to give the Great Danes the 5-4
halftime lead.

The teams would trade goals throughout the first 17 minutes of the second half, as
UAlbany built an 8-6 lead wiith 13:13 remaining. UMBC’s Heather Licht then scored ona

West Point, N.Y. — Freshmen Ritshell Verdier and Isabella Katsarelis set school records in
the discus and javelin events, respectively, at the Dick Shea Invitational hosted by Army on
Saturday. Verdier, who won both the discus and shot put events, qualified for ECAC’s in the
discus with a toss of 138-feet, 11-inches. The throw broke the existing standard of 136-feet,
8.5-inches set by Alexis Bowens in 2002.

Katsarelis, wno broke her own school record set last week, tossed the javelin 125-feet, 4-

#17 UALBANY UPENDS HARTFORD, 20-9, IN AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE OPENER

West Hartford, Conn. — Frank Resetarits had four goals and Eric Wolf and Corey Small
each scored three times in leading No. 17 UAlbany to a 20-9 victory over Hartford in the
America East Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Yousaf Al-Marzook
Fields.

UAlbany (4-2, AE 1-0) posted its third straight win and reached the 20-goal mark in a
game for the fifth time as a Division | program. The Great Danes, who won their opening
conference game for the fourth time in the last five years, are ranked in both the USILA (#17)

UAlbany raced to a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter. Small, a freshman attacker,
tallied a pair of man-advantage goals in the opening period. Resetarits, who added two

Raleigh, N.C. — Corinna Hengen broke her own UAlbany pole vault record at the Raleigh
Relays, held at Paul Derr Track. Eight UAlbany athletes traveled to the meet, hosted by N.C.
State on March 24-25.

Hengen, a sophomore, recorded a vault of 10-feet, 10-inches, six inches better than her
previous UAlbany standard. Danielle Trimpop also had a personal best in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase, crossing the line fourth in her heat with a time of 11:23.05.

Robbie Freeman, a senior, covered the 5,000m in a personal-best 14:44.74 to finish
29th overall in a field of 53 runners. He finished less than one minute back of the leader,
Norfolk State’s David Kemboi, who crossed the line in 13:58.51. Ryan Gaedje
(Shenendehowa), who placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at last year’s America
East Conference championship, recorded a time of 9:32.45 at Raleigh.

Nick Jones (Shenendehowa), David Parker (Niskayuna) and Mike Reynolds were set
to compete in the pole vault, but only three men in the entire competition cleared the starting
height as swirling winds picked up at the start of the event.

DUNNING DRIVES IN CAREER-HIGH FOUR AS UALBANY DOWNS LEHIGH

Bethlehem, Pa. — Katrina Dunning drove in a career-high four runs as UAlbany downed
Lehigh, 12-2, in non-conference women’s softball action on Saturday at Kaufman Field. The
Great Danes also defeated lona for the second time in as many days with a 7-2 win later in
the afternoon.

UAlbany (14-2-1) struck in the top of the first against Lehigh (14-6) to score four runs,
including a two-run single by Dunning. First baseman Ashley Rios, who finished with three
RBI in the first game, scored next on a groundout by Ali Meacham.

Casey Halloran (Columbia), who hurled her fourth complete game of the season, saw
her scoreless streak of 15.0 innings come to an end when Lehigh catcher Mary Wieder hit a
sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1 in the first frame.

The Great Danes added three more in the top of the second, when Rios doubled to
drive in two runs. Dunning, who missed hitting for the cycle by a home run, followed with a
double to right field to plate Rios, making the score 7-1.

The team also rallied for five in the fourth, when Dunning started the scoring with an
RBI triple. Julie Gannon capped the inning by smacking an RBI triple in her only at-bat of the
day, giving UAlbany the 12-1 advantage. The game was called after five innings due to the
eight-run rule.

Leslie Busch led the way against lona (4-9), finishing 3-for-3 at the plate with two
triples and a double in the 7-2 win. Busch tripled to lead off both the third and fifth inning,

scoring each time on a sacrifice fly by Maegan Larsen. Rios made the score 3-0 when she
tripled in Kelly Ogden in the fifth inning. Ogden capped UAlbany’s four-run sixth inning with a
two-run triple.

UALBANY SOFTBALL SPLITS TWO CONTESTS AT LEHIGH

Bethlehem, Pa. — Casey Halloran (Columbia) hurled a six-hit shutout to lead UAlbany past
lona, 4-0, in non-conference women’s softball action on Friday at Lehigh’s Kaufman Field.
The Great Danes fell to Lehigh, 5-2, later in the day. The three teams were originally
scheduled to participate in Radford’s Highlander Mid-Spring Classic, but moved their games
due to the weather.

UAlbany (12-2-1) got on the board in the third inning on an RBI single by third baseman
Kelly Ogden. The Great Danes would cruise behind Halloran, who struck out seven Gaels en
route to her third shutout this spring. lona (4-8) mounted its only threat during the second
inning, the only time the team would manage back-to-back hits. Halloran, who has not
allowed an earned run in 15.0 innings, regrouped with a strikeout, and Alexis Garbowski
lined out to end the inning.

The Great Danes would add three insurance runs in the seventh when freshman
Meagan Butsch led off and started a rally with her third double of season. Amber Maisonet,
who finished 2-for-3 at the plate in the opener, plated Butsch when she tripled. Ashley Rios
and Katrina Dunning each added an RBI single.

@ In the second game of the day, Lehigh’s Mary Wieder, one of four returning 2005 all-
Patriot League selections, scored twice and drove in two runs on three hits. Wieder scored
the first run of the game to give Lehigh (14-5) a 1-0 lead after two innings. UAlbany would

The Mountain Hawks, who have won seven straight Patriot League regular-season

UALBANY FOOTBALL RECEIVES COMMITMENTS FROM 25 STUDENT-ATHLETES FOR 2006

Albany, N.Y. — University at Albany head football coach Bob Ford announced today that 25 student-athletes have
signed commitments to play for the Great Danes in the 2006-07 academic year. UAlbany won five of its last six
games last season to finish in a tie for third place in the Northeast Conference standings.

The 2006 signing class is comprised of 10 players from the state of New York and eight from New
Jersey, plus three from Florida, and one each from Georgia, Texas, Rhode Island and Ohio. The breakdown by
position includes one quarterback, three offensive linemen, three wide receivers, four running backs, one tight
end, six linebackers, three defensive linemen, three defensive backs and one kicker.

"We were able to attract a good bunch of players," said UAlbany's Bob Ford, who is second among
active Division I-AA coaches with 210 career victories. "We addressed our needs at linebacker and
cornerback, plus picked up a group of capable tailbacks, three good wideouts and some solid offensive line-
or: Now that the program is able to offer scholarships, we can spread ourselves into bigger and better high

school football hotbeds and take another step up in terms of the people we can talk to."

The Great Danes landed five all-state players from New York, including running back Colin Simmons,
the Syracuse Post-Standard's Co-Player of the Year. Simmons, who rushed for 1,384 yards as a senior, was a
Class AA second-team all-state selection by the New York Sportswriters Association. Defensive lineman
Trevor Anderson (Cobleskill-Richmondville) and offensive lineman Matthew Faughnan were members of the
Class B first team. Wide receiver Jason Poore (Hoosick Falls Central) earned Class C first-team recognition
after hauling in 40 passes for 561 yards and eight touchdowns. Linebacker Chris Simpson, an All-Finger
Lakes and Messenger Post all-star, made the Class A third team.

Defensive back Dan Morris, a member of the Associated Press all-state third team, heads a group of
eight incoming players from New Jersey. Morris, who played three positions on the scholastic level, including
quarterback, also earned All-Group IV first-team honors. Linebacker Justin Brancaccio (Group IV first team),
linebacker Matt Fitzpatrick (Group II first team) and defensive end Mike Kelly (Non-Public third team) will also
bolster the UAlbany defense. Justin Gannon was a Group IV second-team running back.

The Great Danes also extended their recruiting area beyond the eastern corridor. Charles Guadagno,
who was positioned at both quarterback and running back, rushed for 1,124 yards and 13 touchdowns and was
named to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times All-South Texas first team. Julius Harris, one of three players from
the state of Florida, was the starting quarterback on the Class 6A state championship team. Frank Blasinsky
and Chris Van Zelfden are the first recruits from Ohio and Georgia, respectively. Blasinsky was an All-District
Northeast Lakes Division || quarterback. Van Zelfden made 101 tackles, including 11 for aloss and three sacks

voted the Troy Record Defensive Player of the Year after accounting for 81 tackles and six interceptions.
Vince Gonzalez, a 6-foot-4, 260-pound offensive lineman from Ballston Spa High, was a member of
the Albany Times Union and Daily Gazette first team. Makki Goodbee, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end
from Christian Brothers Academy, was chosen to the Troy Record's all-area third team.

KRISSY RAJCZAK SCORES THREE GOALS IN 10-6 VICTORY AGAINST LE MOYNE

Albany, N.Y. — Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville) scored three times, including the go-ahead
goal with 11:47 remaining, in leading UAlbany to a 10-6 non-conference victory over Le
Moyne on Wednesday afternoon at John Fallon Field. UAlbany (5-2) is off to its best start as
a Division | program.

Rajczak, a junior midfielder, broke a 6-6 deadlock with her third goal of the game.
Freshman Julie Bush drove around the back of the net and found Rajczak in a one-on-one
situation with Le Moyne goalkeeper Samantha Falcone. Kate Fontana gave her team a
two-goal advantage one minute and 34 seconds later when she converted a free-position
opportunity. Bush and Stacey Brown added insurance goals in the final six minutes.

Le Moyne (3-2) trailed 6-4 early in the final period, but drew even on back-to-back goals
by Emily Donnells and Lauren Byrne. Donnells, a sophomore midfielder, finished with two
goals and one assist. The Dolphins had their three-game win streak halted after opening with
a 12-11 loss to Mount St. Mary’s.

The Great Danes, who are above the .500 mark this late in the season for the first time

BRETT QUEENER NAMED AMERICA EAST LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany's Brett Queener has been selected as the America
East Conference Player of the Week in men’s lacrosse, as announced today by the
conference office. Queener, a junior goalkeeper, led the Great Danes to pair of one-goal non-
league victories over seventh-ranked Massachusetts and Drexel.

Queener made 11 saves, including one as time expired, in a 9-8 come-from-behind win
against UMass on March 14. He also had five ground balls as the Great Danes defeated the
highest-ranked opponent in the program's history. Last Saturday against Drexel, Queener
turned aside 12 shots in an 8-7 decision. He has made double-figure saves in all five starts
this season.

A native of Penn Yan, N.Y., Queener has a 10.56 goals against average and a .556
save percentage in five games played. UAlbany (3-2) has met three top-20 opponents this
season.

UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFEATS MONMOUTH, 8-5

Albany, N.Y. — Sarah Spillett scored the game-winning goal as UAlbany used three goals in less
than a minute to defeat Monmouth, 8-5, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at John
Fallon Field.

UAlbany (4-2), which snapped a two-game losing skid, held a 5-3 lead before Monmouth’s
Ashley Waldman converted a free position attempt to pull the Hawks within one with 4:27
remaining in the second half.

The Great Danes responded with three goals in a span of 56 seconds to open up an 8-4
advantage. Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville), who led the Great Danes with three goals, fed
Spillett on the right side for what proved to be the game-winning tally. Rory Redmond scored 31
seconds later on a feed from Julie Bush before Rajczak added an unassisted goal at 2:54.

Jen Daly made 10 saves in goal for UAlbany, including eight in the second half for her second
double-figure performance this season. Jane Bush finished with two goals, while Brittany Scott
added two assists. Kate Fontana stuffed the stat sheet with one goal, one assists, seven ground
balls and six caused turnovers.

Monmouth (1-4) owned a 3-2 halftime lead as Erica Evangelisti scored on a free-position
attempt and then assisted on Jeanette Stott’s tally. Goalie Monica Johnson totaled 15 saves,

Greensboro, N.C. — Guy Welsh recorded two hits and drove in three runs to lead UNC Greensboro
past UAlbany in the rubber game of a three-game set on Sunday afternoon at UNCG Baseball
Stadium. The Spartans, who plated five runs in the fifth, took advantage of three UAlbany errors to
score six unearned runs.

UAlbany (4-12) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Tom Hill delivered an RBI single and
Steve Sayre (East Greenbush) forced home a run with a walk. In the Spartans’ five-run fifth, Adam
Deleo crushed a two-run triple to right-center. Two Great Dane miscues prolonged the frame and
UNCG took advantage. Jermaine Mitchell roped an RBI single through the left side and Welsh
added a two-run base hit to give the Spartans a 5-2 lead.

UNCG (6-14) added two more in the seventh on singles by Welsh and Logan Smith. The Great
Danes cut the score to 7-4 with two in the eighth as Sean Donovan delivered a pinch-hit home run

FOUR UALBANY TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR IC4A & ECAC MEETS

Carolina, Puerto Rico — Freshman Joe Greene won the 400-meter dash and qualified for
the IC4A Championship at the Puerto Rico Classic on Saturday afternoon. Greene's time
of 47.33 broke the previous school record of 47.82.

Junior Burnett captured the 100m with an IC4A-qualifying time of 10.72 seconds,
while Pat Weider placed third. Marc Pallozzi (Lansingburgh) shattered his own school
record in winning the javelin with a throw of 217-feet, 3-inches to qualify for the IC4A meet.
The men’s 4x100m relay also hit the IC4A standard and finished third in 41.60.

Ricardo Estremera had a second-place showing in the 1500m with a time of 3:57.47.
Jesse Bennett and Jean Juste captured second and third in the 110m hurdles. Joe
Belokopitsky (Shaker) placed fourth in the 800m in 1:55.09.

In the field events, Freddie Wills earned a pair of third-place finishes in the long and
high jumps. Renauld Buck placed second in the shot put, while Ray Gilman (Berne-
Knox-Westerlo) finished second in the triple jump.

On the women’s side, freshman Jessica Ortman set a school mark with a winning time
of 2:10.81 in the 800m to qualify for the ECAC Championship. Her sister Jenna, who won
the 1500m, placed third in the 800m. Alyssa Lotmore (Bishop Maginn) took third in the
1500. Kamilah McShine added a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles, while the 4x100
relay also placed third.

Ritshell Verdier led the way in the field events with second-place showings in the shot
put and discus throw. Brenna Militello earned second in the high jump, while Isabella
Katsarelis was third in the javelin.

GREMILLION & MAISONET SPUR UALBANY SOFTBALL PAST ST. PETER’S
Georgetown, Del. - Amber Maisonet delivered a three-run inside-the-park home run as UAlbany
rolled to an 8-0 victory over St. Peter's on the final day of Delaware State’s Bash at the Beach, held at
the Sports at the Beach complex on Saturday afternoon.

Maisonet’s first homer of the season came in a five-run fourth inning as the Great Danes built an
8-0 lead. Laura Gremillion, who finished 2-for-3 on the day, added a two-run blast in the frame.

UAlbany (11-1-1) struck first with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Kelly Ogden
smacked an RBI single, while Leslie Busch and Gremillion also added hits in the rally.

Junior pitcher Casey Halloran (Columbia) scattered one hit and struck out eight in earning her
seventh win this season. She retired 11 consecutive batters after allowing a lead-off single in the first
inning. Florence Williams took the loss for St. Peter's.

UAlbany’s second game of the day against Delaware State was cancelled due to weather. The

UALBANY WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS SACRED HEART, 6-1
Albany, N.Y. — UAlbany won five singles matches en route to a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on
Saturday afternoon in the UAlbany Bubble.

Lisa Klarmann posted a straight-set victory at first singles, while Kim Weltman earned her eighth
win of the season in the second spot. Courtney Michels rallied for a three-set decision at third
singles, while Christina Suarez and Aimee Kern rounded out the singles winners.

Nicole Betz earned the only point for Sacred Heart with a three-set victory at fourth singles.

COREY SMALL’S LAST-MINUTE GOAL LEADS UALBANY PAST DREXEL, 8-7
Albany, N.Y. — Freshman Corey Small scored the game-winning goal with 55 seconds
remaining as UAlbany rallied in the final period for an 8-7 non-conference victory over Drexel
on Saturday afternoon at John Fallon Field.

Drexel (4-2) rebounded from a three-goal deficit in the first half to draw even by the
intermission. Mike Filippone scored from just outside the crease to tie the contest at six
apiece with 52 seconds left in the second quarter. Filippone put his team ahead midway
through the third stanza when he found the net in a man-down situation.

UAlbany (3-2) got the equalizer with 9:14 remaining as Matthew Green fired a seven-
yard shot into the top right corner. The Great Danes went ahead in the last minute as Small
took a pass from Chris Martocchia and delivered a blast from the left side.

“It was a little sloppy on both sides - it's tough to play when it's windy and cold," said
UAlbany coach Scott Marr, whose team edged seventh-ranked Massachusetts in its last
outing four days ago. “We couldn't get much going and were lagging. After beating a
nationally-ranked team, you have such an emotional high that it's hard to have the same
enthusiasm in the next game."

The Great Danes roared to a 5-2 lead after the opening period. Merrick Thomson, who
moved into third place on the school’s all-time list with 111 goals, and Martocchia each scored
ice in the quarter, while Frank Resetarits added the first of his two goals. The Dragons
ripped off three unanswered goals to tie the contest in the second stanza. Yoni Cohen found
the net with the man-advantage, before Adam Dennis scored on a bounce shot.

UAlbany’s Brett Queener made 12 saves, his fifth consecutive game in double figures,
while Martocchia and Resetarits each finished with two goals and one assist. Drexel’s Jeff
Pfeffer scored twice and added an assist.

Greensboro, N.C. — Jermaine Mitchell had three hits, including a three-run triple in his
team’s six-run seventh inning, as UNC Greensboro defeated UAlbany, 10-5, in the first game
of a three-game series on Friday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

UAlbany (3-11) got on the board first on an RBI single by Tom Hill in the opening inning.
The Great Danes built a 2-0 lead as Al Barbato, a junior transfer from the University at
Buffalo, scored his second run of the game in the third.

UNC Greensboro (5-13) took the lead with four in the fifth as David Adams, Brandon
Harvey and Wes McCall contributed three straight RBI singles. The Great Danes regained
the advantage with three in the sixth when Brad Daniels smacked an RBI triple and scored
on an RBI single by Barbato. But, the Spartans took control with six in the seventh powered
by Mitchell's bases-clearing triple.

Patrick Currin pitched two and one-third innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory for

when Teresa Strano scored unassisted for her first career goal. The tally came on Strano’s
first shot as a collegian. St. Bonaventure (2-0) answered back with four straight goals,
including two unassisted tallies by Faas in a span of 48 seconds.

The teams traded goals the rest of the first half. Kate Fontana made the score 4-2
when she converted a free position shot for UAlbany with 8:36 remaining in the half.
Freshman Sara Wolf added her first career goal for the Great Danes, and Brittany Scott
closed out the half with seventh of the season to make the halftime score 6-4.

Julie Bush started the second stanza with a goal for the Great Danes on an assist

RUTGERS HANDS UALBANY SOFTBALL ITS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

Georgetown, Del. — Christine Yard allowed only one hit to lead Rutgers past UAlbany, 1-0,
in non-conference women’s softball action on Thursday afternoon at the Sports at the Beach
complex. The Scarlet Knights handed the Great Danes their first loss of the year and evened
the season series at one apiece.

Brittany Loisel singled to lead off the first inning for Rutgers (4-12), advancing to second on
an error by UAlbany’s Leslie Busch. With two outs, Kaitlyn Valiante tapped a single into
short center field to drive in the only run of the game.

Christine Yard held UAlbany (9-1) to one hit to halt a nine-game winning streak, their longest
since winning 11 in 2005 (3/20 — 4/6). Ashley Rios had the Great Danes’ Ione hit, a single
with two outs in the seventh inning. Katrina Dunning followed, reaching base after being hit
by a pitch, but both runners were left stranded when Ali Meacham struck out to end the

JORDAN LEVINE LEADS UALBANY MEN’S LACROSSE TO 9-8 WIN OVER #7 UMASS

Amherst, Mass. — Sophomore Jordan Levine scored a career-high four goals, including the game-
winning tally, as UAlbany downed No. 7 Massachusetts, 9-8, in non-conference men’s lacrosse action
on Tuesday afternoon at Garber Field. The Minutemen are the highest-ranked opponent the Great
Danes have ever defeated.

With the game knotted at 8-8 in the final minute, Levine drove from the top of the box to the right
side of the net and hit the top left corner. UMass’ Clay Stabert fired a shot at the buzzer that Brett
Queener saved to ensure the victory. Queener finished with 11 saves, including four in the fourth
quarter.

“We have so much respect for UMass,” said UAlbany head coach Scott Marr, whose team
defeated the Minutemen for the third straight time. “Our kids get really excited to play them because
they are such an established program and have had so much success. | really challenged our team
on Saturday night and they responded today.”

Levine, an America East All-Rookie selection last season, knotted the game at 8-8 two minutes
earlier on the same play as the game-winning goal. The Great Danes, who held a 7-5 lead, had to
rally for the victory as UMass dominated most of the final period.

Sean Morris, an All-American honoree who leads the nation in points per game, fed Bret
Caretsky to trim the gap to 7-6. Andrew Recchione capitalized on an extra-man opportunity before
ory Pedrick put UMass in front, 8-7, with 10:36 to play.

UMass, who had won 13 straight games at Garber Field, had not lost at home since an 11-10
setback against UAlbany on March 16, 2004.

UAlbany (2-2) jetted out to a 2-1 lead early in the second period behind goals from Chris
Martocchia and Frank Resetarits. UMass goalie Doc Schneider kept the game close, making eight
of his 14 saves in the first quarter.

The Minutemen, who entered the day as one of eight undefeated teams in the nation, rattled off
three straight to open up a 4-2 advantage with 6:55 remaining in the second quarter. Morris, who
finished with two goals and four assists, recorded a tally and then assisted on Recchione’s goal six
minutes later. Pedrick converted in transition and Morris added his second of the game as UMass
built a 5-3 cushion at halftime.

UAlbany exploded for three goals in the final 3:39 of the third period. After peppering Schneider
with three straight shots, Merrick Thomson dropped the ball in the back of the net. Martocchia added
his second on the day before Levine’s goal in transition gave the Great Danes a 6-5 margin with nine
seconds left in the quarter. Steve Amann pushed the score to 7-5 at 12:52 of the fourth period.

BIG EAST FOE ST. JOHN’S POUNDS OUT 16 HITS TO BEAT UALBANY

Queens, N.Y. — Gil Zayas recorded two hits, including a solo home run in the second inning
that started his team’s scoring, as St. John’s defeated UAlbany, 17-1, in non-conference
baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at The Ballpark at St. John’s.

St. John’s (6-6), which won the Big East regular-season title last season and qualified for
the NCAA Tournament, went up 2-0 in the fifth inning when Ryan Vogl tripled and scored on
a groundout. The Red Storm added two more in the sixth before the Great Danes got on the
board. Steve Wyland led of the seventh with a double and was brought home on a two-out
double by Steve Sayre that closed the gap to three.

The Red Storm pulled away with eight in the bottom half of the seventh and five more in
the eighth. Zayas, who had three RBI on the day, had an RBI double as part of the eight-run
outburst, while junior catcher Ryan Mahoney added a three-run homer. In the eighth, Chris
Joachim smashed the second three-blast in as many innings for the Red Storm, who
pounded out 16 hits in the game. Jared Yecker allowed one run on three hits over seven
innings to earn his second win of the season.

UAlbany’s home opener against Holy Cross, scheduled for tomorrow at Varsity Field, has
been postponed. The Great Danes will return to action this weekend with a three-game series
at UNC Greensboro beginning Friday at 6 p.m.

FRANK RESETARITS CHOSEN AMERICA EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Frank Resetarits has been chosen the America East
Conference Player of the Week in men’s lacrosse, as announced on Monday afternoon by the
conference office. Resetarits, a 2005 first-team All-America East selection, earned player of
the week honors for the first time in his career.

Resetarits has totaled 12 goals and four assists in three games this season. He seta
career high with six goals in the Great Danes’ 14-9 victory over Siena on March 4. The junior
attackman scored five goals and added one assist in his team’s loss to 18th-ranked Delaware
on March 11. Resetarits has 113 career points on 68 goals and 45 assists.

UAlbany, ranked 19" in USILA rankings released on March 6, is 1-2 this season. The
Great Danes travel to No. 7 Massachusetts on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

ALI MEACHAM AND CASEY HALLORAN EARN AMERICA EAST SOFTBALL AWARDS

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Ali Meacham has been chosen the America East
Conference Co-Player of the Week in softball, as announced by the conference office on

Sarah Bennis, respectively.

Meacham leads the Great Danes with a .526 batting average and 12 RBI in eight
games this season, and is also one off the team lead with two home runs. The senior catcher
was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate in the first three games of Delaware State’s Hornet Classic,
with a double, triple and two home runs in that stretch. Her 12 RBI this season are on pace to
shatter her previous career high of 15, set in 2005. She is also one home run away from tying
her career high of three, also set last season.

Halloran leads Albany pitchers this season with a 5-0 record and a 0.90 ERA. On
sunday, March 12, she became the first pitcher in Albany Division | history to hurl a perfect
game, shutting out Delaware State in the championship game of the Hornet Classic. She
tallied 12 strikeouts against Hornet batters, and is averaging 0.90 strikeouts per inning. She
did not allow a run in her three appearances at the Hornet Classic and only allowed two hits in
that stretch.

The Great Danes have opened their season with a perfect 9-0 record, their best start
since going 10-1 in 2000. The team returns to action at Delaware State’s Bash at the Beach
on March 17-18.

CASEY HALLORAN HURLS PERFECT GAME FOR UALBANY’S NINTH STRAIGHT WIN

Dover, Del. — Casey Halloran (Columbia) hurled the first perfect game in UAlbany Division |
softball history to lead the Great Danes past Delaware State, 6-0, in the championship game
of the Hornet Classic, held at Delaware State’s Hornet’s Nest, on Sunday. UAlbany also
downed Coppin State, 8-0, in five innings to start the day. Halloran’s win was the ninth of the
season for the Great Danes, who are off to their best start since going 10-1 in 2000.

Halloran fanned 12 batters over seven frames for her fifth win of the season for UAlbany (9-

0). Her performance was the fourth time a UAlbany pitcher has recorded a shutout since the
team moved to Division | in 2000. The junior also teamed with Amanda Morin to no-hit Stony
Brook on April 16, 2005.

Ashley Rios and Katrina Dunning would provide all the offense needed as each drove in
two runs. Maegan Larsen added a solo home run for the Great Danes.

Earlier in the day, Laura Gremillion shut out Coppin State on five hits. UAlbany jumped out
@° an early 1-0 lead when Larsen scored on a sac bunt by Amber Maisonet. The Great
Danes would add three in the third and four in the fifth to end the game due to the eight-run

GERED BURNS BECOMES UALBANY’S FIRST TRACK ALL-AMERICAN

Fayetteville, Ark. — University at Albany’s Gered Burns (Guilderland) finished fifth in the 800-
meter run in a tightly-bunched field at the NCAA Division | Track and Field Championships,
held at the University of Arkansas' Randal Tyson Track Complex on Saturday evening. Burns
becomes the first Division | All-America track and field athlete in UAlbany history.

Burns, a senior, shattered his own school record in a time of 1:47.97. He finished 95-
hundredths of a second behind the winner, Texas Christian’s Jackson Langat, who was first
across the line in 1:47.02. A mere 23-hundredths of a second separated the runner-up from

the fifth-place finisher.

“Right now, I’m so excited that I’m out of my mind,” said Burns, who improved on his UAlbany
standard in the event by 83-hundredths of a second. “Fifth place was probably better than
anyone expected. It feels good because | always knew | could do it, and | finally got the
chance to prove to everyone | could.”

Burns, a three-time IC4A indoor champion in the 800-meters, competed in a field that

@inciuded two previous All-Americans. He suffered a disappointing injury at last year’s NCAA
outdoor east regional when he was to withdraw from the preliminary round due to an achilles
tendon ailment.

“He handled it like a pro,” commented UAlbany track coach Roberto Vives. “He ran a very
smart race, and he looked like he’d been here all four years.”

Albany, N.Y. — Lisa Klarmann posted victories at first singles and doubles in leading UAlbany

No. 18 UALBANY LACROSSE FALLS TO No. 11 DELAWARE, 18-11

Newark, Del. — Marty Kupprion scored five goals to lead No. 11 Delaware past No. 18
UAlbany in a non-conference men’s lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at Rullo
Stadium. The Blue Hens remain undefeated this season in winning their seventh straight
game.

Delaware held a 6-5 lead at the start of the second quarter, but opened things up with six
consecutive goals in that period. Kupprion, a junior, had back-to-back goals in a stretch of two
minutes and 20 seconds during that run to give the Blue Hens the 11-6 advantage. The teams
traded a pair of goals to make the halftime score 12-7.

UAlbany (1-2) could not overcome the halftime deficit, despite Frank Resetarits’ five
scores. Resetarits had consecutive goals to span the second and third periods, as well as
tallied his fourth assist of the season. Junior Merrick Thomson scored three times, including
the Great Danes’ last two.

Brett Queener had 18 saves between the pipes for Albany while allowing 18 goals in 55-
plus minutes of play. The freshman also scored for the second time this season. The Great
Danes have lost twice to top-20 teams this season.

The Great Danes, who have played four straight home games, continued to lead until the final

an error in the second inning. With one out, Meacham drilled a home run to give her team a 2-
0 lead.

The Great Danes expanded on that lead when seven batters crossed the plate in the
third inning to make the score 9-0. Rios started the scoring with a double to drive in two runs.
Meacham, who missed hitting for the cycle by a triple, singled and drove in the next run.
Maegan Larsen capped off that inning with a bases-clearing double to drive in three.

Casey Halloran (Columbia) earned her fourth win of the season as she held the Mount
hitless in three innings of work. Kelly Ogden allowed three runs in two innings of relief. Mount

Old Westbury, N.Y. — Four New York Institute of Technology pitchers combined to surrender
just two earned runs in two games as the Bears swept UAlbany, 4-3 and 1-0, ina

doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Presidents Field. The victories were the first of the
year for the Bears, who lost three games to Florida International last weekend, while UAlbany
fell to 3-8.

© In the opener, the NYIT (2-3) got out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Great Danes came
back with two in the top half of the second. Chris Wood, who had three hits in the game,
singled home Zac Halloran (Albany, N.Y.) to give his squad the lead. NYIT reclaimed the
lead in the home half of the inning on a double by Mike LaLuna. UAlbany’s Nate Olson tied
the game with his third home run of the year in the seventh inning, but the Bears won the
game in the seventh on a bases-loaded single by catcher Mike Kenefick. Casey Walsh
didn’t allow an earned run over six innings of work in the loss.

Game two went scoreless into the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Andrew
Karkoulas singled to right and then stole second. Esposito, who reached base three times for
the home team, plated Karkoulas with a base hit to left. NYIT’s Eric Johnson, a freshman
right-handed pitcher, allowed two hits over six innings and struck out six. Frank Sonnenberg
threw a perfect seventh to earn the victory. Tony Kirbis threw six one-hit, shutout innings for
UAlbany.

The two teams wrap up the weekend series tomorrow at 1 p.m.

UALBANY’S GERED BURNS QUALIFIES FOR 800m FINAL AT NCAAs

Fayetteville, Ark. — University at Albany’s Gered Burns (Guilderland) qualified for the 800-
meter finals of the NCAA Division | Track and Field Championship, held at the University of
Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Complex on Friday.

Burns, a senior, finished second in his heat with a time of 1:50.40. The top two finishers
from each heat advance to the finals automatically, along with the next four fastest times.

Burns will compete against two previous 800m All-Americans in the eight-person final.
He defeated two All-Americans en route to winning the Tyson Invitational, held at the same
facility, on February 11. The men’s 800m final is slated for Saturday, March 11 at 7:35 EST.

UALBANY SETS DIVISION | PROGRAM RECORD WITH 13 RUNS IN AN INNING

Dover, Del. — UAlbany scored 13 runs in the second inning as the Great Danes downed
Georgetown, 15-2, in five frames at the Hornet Classic, held at Delaware State’s Hornet’s
Nest, on Friday. UAlbany’s 13 runs, which were all recorded with two outs, set the program’s
Division | record for runs in an inning and ties with two teams for the seventh-most runs in an
inning in NCAA Division | history.

© UAlbany (6-0) had nine consecutive hits in the 17-batter inning as seven players
notched at least one RBI. Katrina Dunning had an RBI triple, followed by Ali Meacham’s
first home run of the season to score the eighth and ninth runs of the inning.

Georgetown (0-3) allowed eight unearned runs in that inning as reliever Anna
Wheatley came in for Hoyas’ starting pitcher Courtney Clark. Kelly Ogden recorded her
second win for the Great Danes.

UAlbany took the second game of the day, 12-2, in five innings against host team
Delaware State (4-5). The Great Danes strung five singles together with one out in the fourth
inning and Laura Gremillion capped a rally with a two-out, two-RBI double.

Hornets’ starting pitcher Ashley Gray evened her record to 1-1 with the loss. UAlbany’s
Casey Halloran improved to 3-0 on the season, helping the Great Danes to their best start

West Hartford, Conn. — Ashley Underwood tied her career high with 24 points in leading
Maine past UAlbany, 73-56, in the first round of the America East Women’s Basketball
Championship at the University of Hartford’s Chase Arena on Thursday evening.

UAlbany (7-21) took a 33-29 lead with 1:32 remaining in the first half on one of Jen
Schumacher’s four three-pointers. Schumacher, the schools all-time leader in three-point
field goals with 197, led the Great Danes with 14 points. The Black Bears tied the game at 35
before intermission on a long-ranger jumper by Bracey Barker with eight seconds left.

Maine (10-18) led 51-50 midway through the second stanza, but scored 22 of the game's
final points. Underwood, who tied her own school record with six three-pointers on 10
attempts, canned consecutive long-range jumpers to give her squad a 61-53 advantage with
6:01 remaining. Abby Schrader, who had all 12 of her points in the second period, scored
the next four points for the Black Bears, who tallied the game’s final 11 points.

“Our kids played a great 20 minutes and we played a tough game,” said UAlbany head

UALBANY FOOTBALL COACH BOB FORD HONORED AT 69th MAXWELL AWARDS

Albany, N.Y. — University at Albany’s Bob Ford was honored on the occasion of his 200th
career win at the school at the 69th Annual Maxwell Awards Banquet in Atlantic City, New
Jersey last Friday. Ford recorded his milestone win in a 20-17 come-from-behind victory
against Robert Morris on Nov. 5, 2005.

Maxwell Awards President Ron Jaworski, the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback
and presently an ESPN pro football analyst, presented Coach Ford with his 200th Collegiate
Win Award. In addition, Texas’ Vince Young received the College Player of the Year, while
Penn State’s Joe Paterno was given the George Munger Award as the College Coach of the
Year. Shaun Alexander, of the Seattle Seahawks, was presented the Bert Bell Award as the
Professional Player of the Year. Tony Dungy, of the Indianapolis Colts, earned the “Greasy”
Neale Award as the Professional Coach of the Year.

“This was a great tribute to the University to be recognized on such a distinguished
dais, said Ford, who has compiled a 201-132 record in 33 varsity seasons as the UAlbany
head coach. “To be honored along with Joe Paterno and Tony Dungy was a great thrill. This
recognition reflects favorably on our coaches, players and the entire university community.”

Coach Ford started the UAlbany football program as a club team in 1970. Since then,
the program has competed at the NCAA Division III, Division Il and Division I-AA levels. Ford
ranks second among active I-AA coaches with 210 career victories overall. He guided the
Great Danes to a pair of Northeast Conference championships in 2002 and 2003.

UALBANY’S GERED BURNS TO COMPETE AT NCAA TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

Fayetteville, Ark. - Gered Burns (Guilderland) was selected to compete at the 2006
NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, as announced Monday evening by the NCAA
Division | Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee. The Championships will be held at
the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Complex on March 10-11. Burns will be the
first UAlbany track and field athlete to compete at an NCAA indoor championship.

Burns, who won his third consecutive IC4A indoor 800m title last weekend, eclipsed his
own UAlbany standard when he ran a 1:48.80 to win the 800 at the New Balance Collegiate
Invitational, held at the New York City Armory on Feb. 4. He also repeated as America East
Conference 800m indoor champion on Feb. 18.

The first time the senior competed at Arkansas was earlier this season at the elite Tyson
Invitational, when he defeated three All-Americans with a winning time of 1:49.86.

Burns will compete against a field which includes three 800m All-Americans and two
USAT&F Junior All-Americans. The preliminaries are slated for 4:30 on Friday.

UALBANY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SEEDED NINTH FOR A-EAST TOURNAMENT

@arvany, N.Y. — The University at Albany women’s basketball team is the ninth seed for this
week's America East Conference Women’s Basketball Championship. Hartford, the
conference’s regular-season champion, received the top seed in the nine-team tournament
which will be played at Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion in West Hartford, Conn.
from March 9-12.

UAlbany (7-20, AE 3-13) will meet eighth-seed Maine in the first round on Thursday at 7
p.m. The Great Danes are led by senior guard Jen Schumacher, who averages 10.9 points
per game and leads the league with 62 three-pointers. Sophomore guard Sherri Mikus adds

8.5 points and is among the top-10 in the conference in assists (3.15 pg) and steals (2.00 pg).
Junior forward Bracey Barker is the Black Bears’ top scorer with 13.9 points per game,

while junior guard Ashley Underwood contributes 13.0 points. Senior center Abby Schrader

leads the America East in double-doubles and averages 11.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per
game.

Hamilton, N.Y. - Kim Weltman won her second singles match to tally the only point for

took the match by a 6-1 final, handing the Great Danes their first loss of the season.

Jackie Couture, a junior, led Colgate with a win at first singles over Courtney Michels.

Men’s Basketball — Albany 67, New Hampshire 54

Vestal, N.Y. — Brent Wilson scored 16 points in leading UAlbany to a 67-54 victory over New
Hampshire in a America East Conference Tournament semifinal round game on Sunday
afternoon at Binghamton University’s Events Center. The Great Danes, who advanced to the
championship for the first time, will meet Vermont in the final on their home court on Saturday,
March 11 at 12 noon. ESPN2 will televise the championship nationally with the winner
receiving an automatic NCAA berth.

UAlbany (20-10) led 8-7 early in the first half, but then broke things open with nine
unanswered points. John lati hit back-to-back three-point field goals before Jason Siggers
canned another long-range jumper from the top of the arc. The Great Danes pushed out to a
2/-16 advantage when Brian Connelly was credited with a fast-break layup following a
goaltend.

The Great Danes, who led 31-25 at halftime, moved out to a double-figure lead early in
the final period. Lucious Jordan made a three-point play when he was fouled on a jumper in
the lane. Wilson, who made 7-of-8 from the field and grabbed five rebounds, then finished a
fast-break layup on a feed from Jamar Wilson. UAlbany still led 43-32 with 15:00 remaining,
but then took firm control with eight straight points. Levi Levine, a 6-foot-6 senior, had five of

@"* nine points in that run. Jamar Wilson, who finished with eight points and four assists,
capped that outburst with a three-point play as he was fouled on a drive to the basket.

New Hampshire (12-17) would slice the deficit in half wnen Blagoj Janev, who led his
team with 12 points, buried a three pointer to get his club within 58-48 with 5:16 left. However,
the Great Danes held the lead when Brent Wilson hit a layup and made a three pointer from
the left corner.

“We did a much better job defending this time,” said head coach Will Brown, whose
team dropped a pair of overtime decisions to New Hampshire in the regular season. We didn’t
allow them to beat us from the three-point line. We stayed at home and were not anxious to
help. Our team was focused because we didn’t want to be the next upset in this tournament.”

UAlbany’s Jason Siggers finished with nine points and five rebounds off the bench for
the Great Danes, who held the Wildcats to 35.7 percent on 15-of-42 attempts. Tyrese Gibbs
was the only other UNH player in double figures with 10 points.

“We have been working on getting back to the RACC all season,” explained Levine,
whose team was playing in its first America East semifinal. “We know if we continue to play
consistently that we can get a championship.”

“It was huge that everybody was able to contribute,” said Brent Wilson, whose club
reached the 20-win mark for the first time since the 1993-94 season. Everybody took it to
heart they needed to be involved today. New Hampshire may have proved to some that we
were vulnerable in this tournament and we needed to show that we were not.”

BURNS CAPTURES THIRD STRAIGHT IC4A TITLE AS UALBANY MEN TAKE SEVENTH

Boston, Mass. — Gered Burns (Guilderland) captured his third straight |C4A indoor 800-meter
title at the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championship, held at Boston University’s Track and
Tennis Center on Sunday. Jenna Ortman won the ECAC 1,000m title in women’s
competition at the Reggie Lewis Center. The UAlbany men earned 28 points for a seventh-
place showing, while the women captured 16th place at the ECAC Championship with 19
points. Both UAlbany teams posted their best-ever finish at the championships.

Burns recorded a time of 1:49.35, over half of a second better than his nearest
competitor. The senior, who became only the second UAlbany track athlete to win an IC4A
title in 2004, is the first to post multiple IC4A wins. Joe Greene, a freshman, set a new
UAlbany standard of 47.41 to finish third in the 400m. In field events, Ray Gilman (Berne-
Knox-Westerlo) earned a seventh-place showing in the triple jump with a leap of 47-feet, 6.5-
inches.

Burns and Greene were also members of the winning 4x400 relay which shattered its
existing school record with a time of 3:09.39, which provisionally qualifies the relay for the
NCAA Championsip. Junior Burnett ran a lead leg of 47.7 seconds, followed by Stephen

@ vans and Burns with splits of 47.5 and 47.2, respectively. Greene ran an anchor leg split of
46.9 to seal the win by six tenths of a second. All four relay members ran personal bests in
their effort.

Jenna Ortman upset the 1,000m field at the ECAC Championship, winning the event in
2:52.76. The freshman became the first UAlbany woman to win an ECAC indoor title at the
Division | level. Her twin sister Jessica Ortman turned in a fifth-place showing in the 800m,
finishing in a time of 2:09.89, only 13-hundredths of a second off her own school record.

sarah Charles, a junior, took eighth place in the triple jump with a leap of 38-feet, 5.5-
inches. Alyssa Lotmore (Bishop Maginn) captured fifth in the 5,000m in the first day of

UALBANY BASEBALL EDGES VMI IN SLUGFEST TO SALVAGE WEEKEND SERIES

Lexington, Va. - Dave West went 4-for-6 with five RBI as UAlbany slugged out 18 hits in a
14-13 win over VMI in the final game of the three-game set on Sunday afternoon at Patchin
Field. The win snaps the Great Danes’ four-game losing skid and also halts the Keydets win
Streak at nine.

Each team scored one run in first inning and UAlbany added three more in the second.
Al Barbato and Rashad Barksdale both singled and scored on a base hit by West, while
Steve Wyland, who had three hits on the day, delivered an RBI single. UAlbany (3-6) opened
9-2 lead with two runs in the third and three more in the fourth, as Zac Halloran and Nate
Ison each hit their second home runs of the season.

VMI (11-4) rallied for seven unanswered runs to tie the game at nine after six, including
oe five-run fourth inning. Chad Rice, Klint Reed and Kelly Sweppenhiser smacked three
consecutive RBI singles in the inning. The Great Danes regained the lead with two in the
seventh only to have the Keydets take it back with four in their half of the frame. But UAlbany
took the lead for good in the eighth when Barbato scored on a two-out base hit by Barksdale
after delivering a two-run single that tied the contest at 13.

Giorgio Fuda and Alexander Beaulieu combined to throw two and two-thirds innings
of scoreless relief with Beaulieu picking up his second victory of the season. Sweppenhiser,

UALBANY ADVANCES TO AMERICA EAST SEMIFINALS WITH 79-65 VICTORY OVER UMBC

Vestal, N.Y. -- Lucious Jordan scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half in leading UAlbany to
a 79-65 victory over UMBC in the America East Conference tournament's quarterfinal round on
Saturday evening at Binghamton University's Events Center. The Great Danes, the top seed after
winning the regular-season title, won their first postseason game as a Division | program.

UMBC (10-18) took a 22-20 lead on pair of free throws by sophomore Brian Hodges with 7:43
remaining in the opening period. UAlbany (19-10) responded with 11 unanswered points. Jamar
Wilson, the America East player of the year who had 18 points and seven rebounds, gave his team
the lead for good with a three-point field goal. He ended the run by drilling another long-range jumper
from left of the key.

The Great Danes, who blistered the nets at 68.4 percent on 13-of-19 shooting in the first half, led
by as much as 12 points before settling for a 39-30 advantage at the intermission. Brent Wilson, a 6-
foot-8 sophomore, had eight of his 12 points in the period, plus had five assists and three blocks.

UMBC was still within striking distance early in the second half and trailed 53-43 with 14:23 to
play. But Jordan tallied six straight points, including a 3-pointer from the left corner, that broke the
contest open. The 6-foot-2 senior made 8-of-14 from the field, including five long-range shots, in
posting his second-best scoring total of the season.

"This is special for our program but we have two more games to play," said Jordan, who reached
the 20-point mark for the first time since Dec. 3. "It was time for me to step it up. There are several
players who can do that on this team and tonight was my night."

The Retrievers, the eighth seed who defeated Stony Brook in Friday's opening round, never got
closer than 10 points in the stretch. Jerell Dinkins led three players in double figures with 14 points.
Jay Greene and Chris Pugh added 11 and 10, respectively. Hodges, who scored a career-high 33
points against Stony Brook, was held to nine markers on 1-of-6 shooting.

“We got one under belt by making some plays to win the game," offered Wilson, whose team shot
a season-best 57.5 percent. "Lucious (Jordan) did a good job defensively on (Brian) Hodges. If we
continue to play composed and confident, the sky's the limit."

Kirsten Zoellner, a 7-foot-1 senior, added 10 points for the Great Danes, who ended a string of
nine straight losses in postseason play by recording their first victory since the 1995 NCAA Division III

Albany, N.Y. — Frank Resetarits scored a career-high six goals, while Corey Small added
two goals and three assists as No. 19 Albany defeated crosstown-rival Siena, 14-9, in the
first-ever men’s lacrosse game at John Fallon Field on Saturday afternoon.

UAlbany (1-1) got out to a 2-0 advantage as Resetarits and Small netted unassisted goals.
Matt Girsh got Siena (0-1) on the board off a pass from Chris Viviano with 9:18 remaining in
the first quarter.

The Great Danes led 4-2 after the first period, but scored the first three goals of the
second quarter as Chris Martocchia, Merrick Thomson and Resetarits all found the back of
the net. Siena’s Matt Walsh cut the deficit to four with his first of two goals on the day with
9:32 left in the half, but UAlbany’s Mike Ammann scored on a breakaway to give the Great
Danes a 7-3 lead at the intermission.

Lexington, Va. — Michael Roberts drove in three runs with a two-run single and a sacrifice fly
as VMI upended UAlbany, 8-3, in non-conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon at
Patchin Field. With the win, the Keydets extended their program-record win streak to nine,
while the Great Danes have dropped four in a row.
UAlbany (2-5) struck first as Brad Daniels, who had three hits on the day, led off the game
with a double and scored on a groundout by Steve Sayre. VMI (11-3) evened the score with a

run in the home half of the first and exploded for five in the second to take a 6-1 lead. The first
@10 Keydets to come to the plate reached base and singles by Roberts and Chad Rice plated
three of the five runs. The support was all VMI hurler Travis Smink needed as he improved
to 4-0 on the season, allowing one run on five hits over six innings of work.

Rice and Robert Crumpler each had two hits and scored twice for VMI. UAlbany’s Tom
Hill, who went 4-for-4, had two RBI singles in the seventh and ninth innings, respectively.
Freshman pitcher Matthew Herrick threw five scoreless innings in relief for the Great Danes,
who wrap up their series with the Keydets tomorrow at 1 p.m.

UALBANY ATHLETES COMPETE AT FIRST DAY OF IC4A/ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Boston, Mass. — Junior Burnett set a school record in the 200-meter dash at the first day of
the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championship, held at Boston University’s Track and Tennis
Center on Saturday. Alyssa Lotmore (Bishop Maginn) took fifth in the 5,000m at the first day
of the women’s ECAC Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Burnett, who earned conference honors in the 55m dash at the America East
Conference championship, qualified for the event finals in both the 200m and 55m dash. He
covered the 200m in 21.56 seconds to eclipse the previous standard of 21.75, set by
freshman Pat Weider at the conference championship two weeks ago. Weider also advanced
in the 200m with a time of 21.66 seconds. Burnett’s performance of 6.39 seconds in the 55m
dash was one-hundredth of a second off school-record pace.
Also advancing to the finals for UAlbany were two-time defending IC4A 800m champion
Gered Burns (Guilderland), as well as freshman Joe Greene, who ran the 400m in a season
best 47.63. Greene anchored the 4x400 relay which advanced in a school-record pace of
3:13.20. Weider, Burnett and Stephen Evans teamed with Greene on the relay.
Lotmore turned in a fifth-place showing in the 5,000m, finishing in a time of 16:46.69.
@rne junior eclipsed her own UAlbany standard, set earlier this season, by nine seconds. Her
fifth-place finish in the finals is the first time Lotmore has scored in an indoor ECAC
Championship.
Freshman twins Jessica Ortman and Jenna Ortman advanced to the finals of the
800m and 1,000m, respectively. Anisha Andrews anchored the women’s 4x400 relay which

set a new school record of 3:51.59. She teamed with Melissa Lee, Jenn Gurrant and twin
sister Adanna Andrews in the event preliminaries.

FONTANA & BUSH GUIDE UALBANY WOMEN’S LACROSSE TO THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Albany, N.Y. — Kate Fontana scored three goals and Julie Bush added two goals and three
assists as UAlbany defeated Niagara, 18-2, in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on
Saturday afternoon at John Fallon Field. The Great Danes improved upon their best start in
the program’s Division | history, moving to 3-0.

Bush, who set a career high with five points, scored twice in the opening five minutes
as the Great Danes built a 4-0 advantage. Brittany Scott also netted two first-half tallies as
UAlbany led 9-1 at the intermission. Jane Bush and Fontana each tacked on two goals in the
second half as Albany won its third straight game at Fallon Field.

Krissy Rajczak (Scotia-Glenville HS) finished with two goals and three assists, while

Rory Redmond added a career-high two goals and one assist.

SCHUMACHER LEADS UALBANY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO WIN OVER UMBC

Albany, N.Y. — Jen Schumacher scored a season-high 20 points, including nine in the final
minutes as UAlbany held off UMBC, 63-55, in the America East Conference regular-season
finale on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center.

UAlbany (7-20, AE 3-13), who led by as many as 18 points in the first half, was clinging to a
53-49 lead with 2:47 remaining when Schumacher stepped up. The senior guard, who was
playing in her final home contest, drained a jumper to stretch the margin to 55-49. After a
UMBC turnover, Sherri Mikus found Schumacher for an open three-pointer and a 58-49
advantage with 1:17 to go. Two possessions later, Schumacher made a steal and was fouled,
converting both free throws to rebuild a double-digit cushion.

“Coach told me that | hadn't scored yet in the second half,” said Schumacher, who moved to
10th on UAlbany’s career scoring list. “She told me to go find some shots and make
something happen. This win was what we needed going into the tournament next week.”

@."° Great Danes raced off to their best start of the season and held a commanding 26-8

advantage midway through the opening period. UAlbany, which made a season-high nine
three-pointers, shot a sizzling 54 percent (13-of-24) in the stanza. The squad played a
smothering man-to-man defense and limited UMBC (15-12, AE 7-9) to 28-percent shooting
(8-of-28).

“We harbored around the three-point line,” said UAlbany coach Trina Patterson, whose team
registered a season-high 17 assists on 23 field goals. “We double-teamed (Sharri) Rohde, we
didnt stretch out and we were really stingy on the inside. We showed today that at the right
time, this team can do something special.”

Mikus added 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals for UAlbany. Gia Sanders
finished with 14 points for her first double-figure scoring game since Jan. 29.

Brittnie Hughes paced the Retrievers with 15 points, while Matea Pender and Amanda

Robinson added 12 and 11, respectively. Sharri Rohde, the team’s second-leading scorer,
was limited to eight points on 4-of-10 shooting.

Lexington, Va. — B.T. Good had three hits and scored three runs as Virginia Military Institute
defeated UAlbany, 14-2, in the first game of a three-game series on Friday afternoon at
Patchin Field. The Keydets, who have won a program-record eight straight games, are off to
their best start in school history with a 10-3 mark.

VMI took advantage of two UAlbany errors in the second inning and plated two unearned
runs. First baseman Robert Crumpler, who was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, hit
a solo home run with one out in the third to give his squad a 3-0 advantage. The Keydets
added three more in the frame as UAlbany pitchers combined to walk five batters. VMI scored
also scored four the fourth as Michael Roberts and Jacoby Fields had RBI singles as part of
the rally.

UAlbany (2-5) got on the board with two in the fifth when Steve Wyland was hit by a pitch,
forcing in a run. Steve Sayre followed with a sacrifice fly, but that was the lone scoring for the
Great Danes, who managed only two hits in the game.

Trey Barham (2-1) didn’t allow an earned run over five innings for his second win of the
season. Mark Suchowiecki (1-1) suffered the loss, giving up seven runs over two and one-
third innings of work. The two teams resume the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m

UALBANY’S JAMAR WILSON NAMED AMERICA EAST PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Brent Wilson and Kirsten Zoellner Also Named to All-America East Squad

Boston, Mass. — University at Albany’s Jamar Wilson has been named the 2006 America East
Conference Player of the Year as announced today by the conference office. Wilson was
chosen to the first team, while Brent Wilson and Kirsten Zoellner were selected to the third
team in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Wilson, who earned All-America East recognition for the third time, became just the fifth
player in conference history to receive the league’s top player and rookie award during a
career. Reggie Lewis (Northeastern), Taylor Coppenrath (Vermont), T.J. Sorrentine
(Vermont) and Tunji Awojobi (Boston University) also accomplished that feat.

Wilson, a 6-foot-1 junior from Bronx, N.Y., is second in the conference in scoring at
17.6 points per game, plus averages 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals. He has scored
20 or more points on 13 occasions this season, including 30 against Maine on Feb. 11.
Wilson, the first player in school history to combine for more than 1,400 career points and 300
assists, was recently named to the NABC All-District Il second team.

Brent Wilson, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, averaged 10.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in his first
season as a Starter. A native of Cedar Rapids, lowa, he scored in double figures 16 times,

@ cluding a career-high 19 against Oakland. Wilson, who ranked seventh among the
conference leaders with 52 three-point field goals, was a member of the 2005 America East
all-rookie squad.

Kirsten Zoellner, a 7-foot-1 senior from Hannover, Germany, averaged 7.6 points, plus
was third among the America East leaders in blocked shots (1.32 pg) and 11th in rebounding
(5.2 pg). Zoellner, who led the team in field goal percentage (.568), transferred from Boston
College prior to the 2004-05 campaign. He grabbed 10-plus rebounds three times this year.

The Great Danes, who will be the top seed in this weekend’s conference postseason
tournament, have an 18-10 overall record, the most victories in the program’s Division |
history. UAlbany won its first-ever America East regular-season title with a 13-3 mark.

KURPNIECE RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE AS BINGHAMTON DOWNS UALBANY

Albany, N.Y. — Laine Kurpniece tallied 17 points and added 10 rebounds to lead three
players in double figures as Binghamton upended UAlbany, 77-56, in America East
Conference play on Wednesday night at the Recreation and Convocation Center.

Kurpniece, who made 7-of-10 field goals, scored 14 points in the first half as Binghamton
opened up a 38-26 halftime advantage. The Bearcats owned a 16-9 margin with 11:40
remaining in the half before drilling seven of their next 10 shots to build a 35-21 cushion. Jen
Blues, who finished with 13 points, hit a jumper and a three-pointer in that spurt.

“Binghamton had too much offense for us tonight,” said UAlbany coach Trina Patterson,
whose team surrendered 70-plus points for the tenth time this season. “They were efficient in

their scoring and had solid post play.”

UAlbany (6-20, AE 2-13) closed to within 48-40 on a layup by Tanya James at 13:26, but the
Bearcats countered with seven of the game’s next 10 points to rebuild a 55-43 cushion with
11:32 remaining. Rachel Laws, who added nine points and nine rebounds, converted a follow

shot and Blues drilled a three to fuel Binghamton (15-11, AE 8-7).

Jen Haubrich netted 13 points and seven rebounds for Binghamton, which shot 43.9 percent
from the field and held a 41-36 advantage on the glass.

Amanda Ward, who scored in double figures for the seventh straight game, led the Great
Danes with 15 points and a career-high five assists. Jen Schumacher finished with 13 points,

while Sherri Mikus was the third player in double digits with 11 points.

Danes would play in the second of two semifinal games on Sunday, March 5 at 2:30
