UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY NAMES JON MUELLER HEAD BASEBALL COACH
AND CARLYLE LAWRENCE DIRECTOR OF RECREATION AND INTRAMURALS
ALBANY, N.Y. -- University at Albany Interim Director of Athletics Gail Cummings-Danson announced
today the hiring of Jon Mueller as head baseball coach and Carlyle Lawrence as director of
recreation and intramurals.
Mueller, a volunteer baseball assistant at Albany last year, has played on the minor league
professional level since 1994 with the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs, Adirondack Lumberjacks and
Marshall (Minn.) Mallards. A 6-foot-5, 245-pound infielder and designated hitter, Mueller had a career
.283 batting average with 54 home runs and 232 RBI prior to the 1999 season.
Mueller, who hails from Stillwater, N.Y., was the head junior varsity coach at the College of St.
Rose in 1993-94, and has been a teacher/instructor with Mechanicville City Schools, Saratoga
BOCES and Duanesburg School District. He earned a B.S. in sociology from Eckerd College in
an and has a master's in secondary education from the College of St. Rose.
Mueller, 29, takes over for Doug O'Brey, who led Albany to a 21-21 record and an ECAC
championship final appearance in the program's final NCAA Division II campaign.
Lawrence will administrate the University's recreation and intramural program for an
undergraduate and graduate study population in excess of 17,000. He also manages the swimming
facility and coordinates the school's aquatics program.
A native of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Lawrence has worked for the University in various capacities
since 1991. He spent the last four years as assistant director of residential life and quad coordinator,
where he was responsible for the overall management of 1,200 students, and supervised residence
directors, graduate assistants, and student and clerical staff. Lawrence has also served as residence
director, administrative assistant for summer planning conference, summer conference housing
manager, and graduate assistant for multicultural programming.
Lawrence, 31, received a master of arts in africana studies from the University at Albany in
1994, and has a B.A. in history from Union College.
Albany moves its entire 19-sport intercollegiate athletics program for men and women to the
NCAA Division | level, effective in 1999-2000. Football is competing in the I-AA classification.

MICHAEL LAMARCHE RECEIVES CAPITAL DISTRIC? STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Guilderland Native Will Be Recognized at Giants Media Day on Thursday
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany announced today that Michael Lamarche will receive this
year's Capital District Student Scholarship, which is sponsored by New York Giants Football, Inc., the
University, and the Albany Times-Union. Lamarche, a native of Schenectady, N.Y., will be
recognized as part of a welcome program at Giants Media Day on Thursday, July 29.
The Giants Media Day barbecue is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. under a tent on Dutch Quad
Field. Giants head coach Jim Fassel and City of Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings will be among the
dignitaries attending, and will speak during the 12-noon program.
A graduate of Guilderland High School, Lararche will enter the University as a freshman in
september. He has been admitted as a Presidential Scholar, and plans to study business

Lamarche, who is physically disabled and uses a wheelchair, is a National Honor Society
member, and was involved in Key Club, schoo! newspaper, and several church-related activities. He
served as President of the Senior Class at Guilderland High School.
Lamarche, a lifelong Giants fan, also attended Farnsworth Middle School and Guilderland
Elementary. He lives with his parents, Normand and Alison, and teenage sister Jenelle.
The Capital District Student Scholarship Fund provides Lamarche with a monetary award
equivalent to the tuition costs for four years at the University at Albany. The annual Meet the Giants
Fan Party, slated for Wednesday, August 4 at 5:00 p.m. in University Gym, generates funding for this
scholarship.

TICKETS FOR GIANTS TRAINING CAMP EVENTS ON SALE TUESDAY
Intrasquad Scrimmage and Meet the Giants Fan Party Are Part of Festivities
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany announced today that ticket sales for New York Giants
training camp events begin on Tuesday. The Meet the Giants Fan Party (August 4) and Intrasquad
Scrimmage and Barbecue (August 7) tickets are available, as well as parking decals for all practice
sessions.
The Fan Party and Scrimmage/Barbecue can be purchased at the University's Athletic Ticket
Office in the Recreation and Convocation Center and Armory Automotive (Central & Colvin Avenues).
Albany's ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The phone number is
518-442-3919.
Giants Training Camp parking decals (non-transferable) for all practice sessions are priced at
$10.00, and can be purchased at all local Stewart's Shops. The daily parking fee is $5.00. Dutch
Quad Lot will still be used as the primary parking facility, but due to construction fans are encouraged
to use the Western Avenue and Washington Avenue (northeast corner) entrances to campus. The
QWashington Avenue (northwest corner) entrance will be closed, and delays are expected at Fuller
Road.
The Meet the Giants Fan Party is scheduled for Wednesday, August 4 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. at
University Gymnasium on campus. The cost is $50.00 for adults and $25.00 for youth (16 and
under). Proceeds benefit the Capital District Student Scholarship Fund sponsored by the New York
Giants, Albany Times-Union, and the University at Albany. Fans have an opportunity to meet Giants
players and coaches, obtain autographs, and join in a prize raffle and other festivities. Food and
beverage stations, along with music, will be provided.
Individual intrasquad scrimmage tickets are also available. Reserved seating is $10.00, and
general admission is $8.00. The ticket price for the August 7" scrimmage includes parking.
The Scrimmage Day Barbecue begins at 12 noon under a tent in the west end zone of
University Field. The price is $35.00 per person, and includes a reserved seat for the scrimmage and
a picnic menu, featuring chicken, ribs, chili and hot dogs.
