home runs. Scott committed two errors in 122 opportunities and was the only senior chosen to
the first team.
Emmerthal established himself as the ace of the Albany pitching staff in his first season
with the program. The sophomore right-hander is third among the America East leaders in
victories with a 6-1 record. His 2.38 earned run average ranks 31st nationally. Emmerthal
posted four wins against conference opponents, including two shutouts, and finished the season
with a 42/6 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Vallone, a freshman right fielder, also earned all-conference recognition and a spot on
the America East All-Rookie Team. He led the Great Danes with a .351 batting average, and
placed fourth among the conference’s top hitters. Vallone missed a 13-game stretch due to a
dislocated left thumb early in the season, but recovered with 18 RBI in 27 contests after the
return.

STONY BROOK WINS AMERICA EAST MEN’S LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP
Albany, N.Y. — Senior midfielder Tris Gillen scored the go-ahead goal with eight minutes
and 35 seconds remaining, as Stony Brook captured the America East Championship
with an 8-6 victory over Albany on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field. The Seawolves
earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth with the conference’s automatic bid.
Albany, the America East regular-season titleholder who finished with a 9-7
record, took a 6-5 lead early in the fourth quarter, when junior attacker Chris Driscoll
converted a man-advantage situation off a feed from Luke Daquino.
Stony Brook (10-6) drew even as senior midfielder Denis Scannell, the
championship’s Most Outstanding Player, scored his second goal of the game, a blast
inside the left post with 9:10 left in the contest. The Seawolves took the lead 35 seconds
later, when Gillen drove from behind the cage and slid an underhanded shot past Albany
goalkeeper Kevin Rae.
The Seawolves, the tournament’s No. 3 seed, but preseason favorite to win the
conference crown, added an insurance goal with 4:37 to play. Kevin Pall tallied his 48th
goal of the season, when he scored in transition from Steve Conlon on a play that
originated off an offensive turnover.
Stony Brook, who has reached double-figure victories for the first time since 1990,
erased an early 2-0 deficit with a four-goal second quarter. Scannell gave his team the
lead with a driving shot from the right side, before George LaFlare spun to his left and
bounced a shot into the net for a 5-3 advantage.
Albany's Daquino, who scored three times and added one assist, sliced the gap to
one goal with 44 seconds left before halftime. Michael Solazzo and Driscoll each had
one goal and one assist for the Great Danes, who made a dramatic turnaround from last
year's 3-8 campaign.

ALBANY SPORTS 4-4-4
The Great Danes threatened in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases on
singles by Jake Toms and Tony Vallone (Greenwich Central) and a walk by Delaney.
But Catamount closer Justin Bissonnette, who earned the save in both games, struck
out Fred Estes and Craig Farley to end the threat.
In the opener, Barry gave his team a 2-0 lead on a RBI single to center field in the
top of the fifth inning. The Great Danes, who trailed 3-1 with two outs in the sixth, looked
to rally when bases were loaded on three straight walks by Vermont pitcher Brian
Robinson. However, Toms was out at home after trying to score on a wild pitch by
Robinson. The pitch ricocheted off the backstop to catcher Jeff Tarigo, who flipped to
his pitcher for the tag.
Robinson allowed just two hits and one unearned run in six innings, upping his
record to 5-2 on the season for Vermont. Albany’s Delaney finished the day 3-for-6 with
one RBI, while Mike Grasso (Bishop Maginn) went 2-for-5 and stole his 26th base of the
season.
