FOOTBALL CONCLUDES SPRING WITH SCRIMMAGE

Albany, N.Y. -- The UAlbany football team wrapped up spring practice with a 44-play
scrimmage on Friday evening at University Field. Quarterback Ryan Roeder completed
4 of 7 passes for 44 yards, and rushed twice for 25 more. Fullback Jon George (Burnt
Hills-Ballston Lake), a transfer from Hartwick College, registered the controlled
scrimmage's lone scoring play, when he scampered 5/7 yards to paydirt.

Defensive end Jason Pelosi (Broadalbin-Perth) totaled one sack and one pass
break-up. Alex Figueroa caught four passes, while freshman tailback Rohann Vidal
ran 11 times for 50 yards.

"We are still making too many mistakes in terms of our alignments and formations,"
said Bob Ford, who has a 170-108 record in 28 seasons as Albany's head coach.
"Roeder looked good running the team, and Jon George is a physical talent who is still
learning. Overall, we were able to identify some defensive linemen during the spring.
John Bolt (Watervliet), Kevin Gribbin and Josh MacAnn are going to help us appreciably
up front."

The Great Danes open their 2001 schedule at home on Saturday, September 1
against non-conference opponent Towson.

Siena College and the
University at Albany set to
renew basketball rivalry

CONTACT: . CONTACT:
JASON RICH For release: BRIAN DEPASQUALE
(518) 783-2411 Wednesday, May 2 2001 (518) 442-3072

ALBANY, N.Y.--Siena College and the University at Albany will renew their storied basketball
rivalry next season after a 21-year hiatus. The two have agreed to terms on a three-year
contract that will pair the schools" men's and women's basketball teams in an annual double-
header in Albany's 15,500-seat Pepsi Arena.

This year’s games will take place on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 beginning with a women's
contest at 6 p.m.

“I'm happy to see the renewal of the celebrated rivalry between these two great Albany County
schools," said County Executive Mike Breslin. "These games will be a boon not only for the
University at Albany and Siena, but for the Pepsi Arena, the City and County of Albany, and all
the basketball fans in the Capital Region as well."

Mayor Gerald D. Jennings added, “I am pleased that both universities will resume their
competitive tradition in downtown Albany and | look forward to a continued friendly rivalry that
will only increase in popularity and regional interest, while contributing to the renaissance this
great capital City is currently experiencing.”

Specific terms of the contract were not disclosed, other than it is a three year agreement.

“We are very excited to rekindle the historic Siena, Albany series,” said Siena College President
Father Kevin E. Mackin O.F.M. “These games will not only bring together the supporters of these
two great schools, but also all fans of College basketball in the Capital Region. We look forward

to the exciting moments the series is sure to provide, and hope this serves as the beginning of a
long-lasting relationship."

“It is wonderful that after so many years, the UAlbany-Siena basketball series is back,” said
President Karen R. Hitchcock of the University at Albany. "For decades, it was one of the
Capital Region's most competitive and anticipated sporting events. The two schools’ athletic
programs will benefit from it, the athletes will cherish the rivalry, and the region each year will
look forward to see which men's and women's programs win ‘bragging rights’ for the season."

Siena, which plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, holds a 23-17 series edge on the

men's side over Albany, which will be beginning its first season in the America East conference

next year. Albany won the last meeting during the 1976-77 season. The Siena women hold a 4-2
@ series advantage and won the last encounter in 1980-81.

WOMEN’S SOCCER ANNOUNCES SIGNINGS FOR 2001 SEASON

Albany, N.Y. — University at Albany women’s soccer coach Joanna Tomasino announced today
that nine student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play for the Great Danes next
fall. The signings mark Tomasino’s inaugural recruiting class as she was appointed the school’s
first full-time head coach in March 2000.

‘lam very happy with what we were able to accomplish in signing these student-
athletes,” said Tomasino, who will lead UAlbany into America East Conference play next year.
“| feel a lot of these players can come in and make an impact right away. They bring many
different qualities including tenacity, finesse and speed. With this group, | am hoping we can
generate more of an offensive attack. Many of them have already played together at the club
level so hopefully we can gel together quickly.”

Eight of the nine high school standouts hail from the Empire State, including two from the
Capital Region. Ashley Jurica, a 5-5 forward from Fonda, N.Y. (Fonda-Fultonville H.S.),
totaled 152 career goals, the third-highest total in Section II history. A six-year varsity player,
Jurica scored 52 goals during her senior season, while being named to the Class B all-state
second team. Jurica, a two-time Tri-Valley League most valuable player, led her squad to
consecutive league championships. Jessica Mulson, a 5-6 defender from Rensselaer, N.Y.
(Academy of the Holy Names), led the Adirondack team to back-to-back bronze medals at the
Empire State Games. A three-year starter, Mulson was named to the 2000 All-Colonial Council
squad. Mulson and Jurica are both members of the Capital United club team.

Toni Ann Burdi, a 5-3 forward from Ronkonkoma, N.Y., earned a silver medal for the
Long Island region at the Empire State Games (ESG). She also tallied 11 goals for Connetquot
High School as an all-league selection this season. Four other players have ESG experience
competing for the Hudson Valley team -- Julie Hirsh, Sara Rickard, Jennifer Schassler and
Jillian Schassler. Hirsh, a 5-5 midfielder from New Rochelle, N.Y. (New Rochelle H.S.), was
an All-Section | and All-Westchester Conference award winner after totaling 12 goals and 29

assists in her junior season. Rickard, a Class B all-state fifth-team representative, led John S.
Burke Catholic to a 16-4-1 overall record and a Section IX championship. She had 21 goals and
12 assists last fall. Jennifer and Jillian Schassler (Garnerville, N.Y.), three-time Section | all-
stars, guided North Rockland High School to the New York State Class A championship in 1999.
Hirsh and the Schassler twins currently play club soccer for the Yorktown Jaguars.

Michelle Wise, a 5-3 midfielder, comes to Albany from Fayetteville-Manlius High School
where she registered 20 goals and 25 assists as a four-year starter. In addition, she was a first-
team Onondaga High School League (OHSL) Class A-2 all-star. Alena Baisden, a 5-9 forward,
is the lone player from out of state. A two-time honorable mention All-Beach District selection,
