UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY TRACK & FIELD INVITATIONAL SET FOR THIS WEEKEND
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany will host the fifth annual Albany Track & Field Invitational this
Friday and Saturday (April 21-22) at University Field. The Great Danes are the defending men's
champion, while Cortland State will defend the women's title. Eighteen schools, which include Siena,
Rensselaer, St. Rose and Union, will send athletes to the two-day competition.
Albany's Geoffrey York, a four-time NCAA Division III individual champion, is entered in the 100-
meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, and the 4x100-meter relay. York, who won the 1995 NCAA indoor title in
the 55-meter hurdles, qualified last weekend for nationals with a time of 14.11 seconds in the 110-hurdles.
At the Williams Invitational on Wednesday, York, of Troy, N.Y., also helped his 4x100-relay team earn a
trip to the NCAA's in 41.72 seconds.
Vincent Hodnett, who won three events at the 1994 Albany Invitational for the Great Danes, and set
a meet record in the high jump at 6' 10.75", has also qualified for the NCAA's this spring in the 110-
hurdles and 400-meter intermediate hurdles. He posted the top time in Division III this season in the 400-
hurdles (52.33) at the Williams Invitational.
Cortland State, which finished second at the 1995 NCAA indoor track championships, is led by
Michelle LaFleur and Heather Swarts. LaFleur has two national titles this year, after winning the NCAA
Division Ill cross country championship last fall, and the indoor 1,500-meter run. In 1994, LaFleur won the
Albany Invitational's 10,000-meter event, while Swarts was a double-winner in the 1,500- and 3,000-races.
Friday's schedule begins at 4:00 p.m. with finals in the pole vault, hammer, javelin, and distance-
running events, and the first day of competition in the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.
Saturday's slate starts at 10:00 a.m. with the long jump, and runs through the men's 4x400-meter relay,
which is set for 6:15 p.m.

UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY NAMES THREE ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACHES
Former Syracuse Star John Reagan, Paul Petosa and Jason Jellie Are Selected
ALBANY, N.Y. -- John Reagan, Paul Petosa and Jason Jellie have been selected as assistant football
coaches at the University at Albany, as head football coach Bob Ford announced today. Reagan, a three-
year starter at center for Syracuse University, will work with the offensive line. Petosa, recently a
defensive back coach at Hobart College, will handle the secondary, while Jason Jellie, who played free
safety for four seasons at Springfield College, is responsible for special teams.
Reagan, who worked as a graduate assistant academic advisor at Syracuse last fall, was a first team
ECAC all-star for the Orangemen in 1993, when he served as team captain. Reagan led Syracuse to the
1992 Hall of Fame Bowl and 1993 Fiesta Bowl titles, and the '92 Lambert Trophy as a three-year starter,
and his senior class posted a combined 34-12-2 record. He was chosen on two occasions as a GTE
District | Academic All-America and to the Big East Conference all-academic unit. Reagan, who had a
brief professional career with the Arena Football League's Miami Hooters, received the Ben
Schwartzwalder Award as the most exemplary SU football player.
In his previous position, Reagan, 24, advised the 100-member Syracuse football team as an
academic counselor and monitor, and implemented the school's NCAA Life-Skills program. He received a
@ bachelor's degree in psychology and exercise science last spring, and was given the North Syracuse
Chamber of Commerce Keystone Award for academics and citizenship. A native of Delmar, N.Y., Reagan
attended nearby Bethlehem Central High School, where he was an all-state Class A offensive
guard/defensive tackle as a senior. He twice was named as both a Section II and first team all-Suburban
Council all-star.
Petosa, 25, joins Coach Ford's staff after a two-year appointment at Hobart, where he worked with the
secondary, special teams, and was the stréngth and conditioning coordinator. He also served as a
student assistant coach at the University at Buffalo in 1992, and was responsible for the tight ends.
A three-year letterwinner at Buffalo as a defensive back and long snapper on special teams, Petosa
earned his undergraduate degree in environmental studies in 1993. He served as president of Sigma Nu
Fraternity, and was a member of the school's Presidential Steering Committee. Petosa was a first team
all-Onondaga County and all-Section IIl, Class B center and nose guard at Solvay (N.Y.) High School,
where he captained his 1987 club to the Central League championship and a 7-3 record. He later
received the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.
Jellie, 22, recently completed a four-year career as a free safety on the Springfield football team,
where he recorded 89 career tackles and five interceptions. Jellie, who had 32 tackles, one interception
and four pass break-ups as a senior in 1994, received the program's Keith Scholar-Athlete Award. A
Dean's List student with a 3.7 grade point average, he will graduate next month with a B.S. in
history/secondary education, and is already certified to teach history and social studies.
Jellie, a native of Black River, N.Y., attended Carthage Central High School. He served as team
© captain on both the football and track teams, and was a two-time all-League/North football choice and
league track champion in the long and triple jumps.
After 22 years as an NCAA Division III football program, the University at Albany begins Division II
play in 1995.
