TERESA COVERT QUALIFIES FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 100-HURDLES
Fairfax, Va. — University at Albany’s Teresa Covert placed fourth in the women’s 100-
meter hurdles final at the NCAA East Regional Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and
Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.

Covert, who overcame a slow start when she grazed the first hurdle, finished in
13.54 seconds to earn one of five automatic berths to the NCAA Division |
Championships that will be held at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium on June 11-14.
She becomes the first UAlbany track athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships
since the program sent six women to the Division II nationals in 1997. The Great Danes
upgraded to their current status in the 1999-2000 season.

“| Knew | was falling back during the race,” said Covert, who ran the fourth-fastest
time in qualifying (13.47) on Friday. “I tried to dig deep and catch up, and was able to
pass two or three runners at the last hurdle and sprint to the finish. It’s more relief right
now because that was close.”

South Carolina’s Tiffany Ross hit the tape first in 13.12, and was followed by
Miami's Sharianne Lawson (13.25) and Florida’s Andrea Bliss (13.31). Covert, the
ECAC and America East hurdles champion, edged Hyleas Fountain, of Georgia, by five-
hundredths of a second for fourth place.

“When you're a runner you are always looking ahead, so | haven't had time to
think about this accomplishment,” explained Covert, a Temple transfer who had not
competed for two years prior to this season due to family commitments. “But | am
amazed how it has all happened; | had no idea how far this would come in such a short
period.”

lane to finish second in her preliminary heat behind South Carolina’s Tiffany Ross
(13.35). Florida’s Andrea Bliss ran the day’s best time, as she was clocked in 13.34.
Covert’s time was six-hundredths of a second off the school record she established in

ALBANY VOLLEYBALL SIGNS FIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES FOR 2003 SEASON

Albany, N.Y. -- University at Albany volleyball coach Kelly Sheffield announced today that five
student-athletes have committed to play for the Great Danes this fall. Albany is coming off a 12-
win turnaround from the previous season, going 16-15 and advancing to the America East
Conference postseason tournament for the first time in school history.

Among the signees for Sheffield, who is in his third year, are three all-state high school
players, a Canadian Junior National team member and a transfer from the University of
Memphis.

Blair Buchanan, a 5-foot-10 setter from Muncie, Ind., is a two-time first-team all-state
player who led Delta H.S. to the state championship the last two seasons. She also earned

6 first-team All-America honors at the 2001 Junior Nationals. Buchanan will not have to look far to
find a familiar face, as teammate Ashley DeNeal has also signed to play with UAlbany. DeNeal,
a 5-foot-8 outside hitter and libero, was also a two-time first-team all-state player and led the
Lady Eagles in kills and digs both her junior and senior years.

Joining the Delta teammates are Kristin Fiorillo, Shelby Goldman and Ashley Green.
Fiorillo, a 5-foot-4 setter from Painted Post, N.Y., was named to the New York Class B all-state
first team and led Corning West H.S. to a runner-up finish at the state tournament. Goldman, a
0-foot-11 outside hitter from Whitby, Ontario, was a member of the 2001 Canadian Junior
National Team and her squad placed second at the 2000 national championships. Green, a 6-
foot-1 athlete from Indianapolis, Ind., spent her freshman year at Memphis seeing action as both
an outside and middle hitter in 58 games. During her senior season at Brebeuf H.S., she had
405 kills and posted a .504 hitting percentage as the 2001 Indianapolis Star Player of the Year.

“lam very excited about this class coming in," commented Albany coach Kelly Sheffield,
whose team will begin its 2003 schedule at the Niagara University Tournament on August 29.
"First and foremost, they are great kids. Secondly, this group is coming in with a lot of past team
and individual success. All of them are great athletes that have also excelled at sports other
than volleyball. There's probably not too many groups of players that are more excited about the
month of August arriving that these five are."

ALBANY, N.Y. — University at Albany head football coach Bob Ford announced today that 21 student-
athletes have committed to play for the Great Danes in the fall of 2003. UAlbany, the defending Northeast
Conference champion, begins its schedule against Atlantic 10 Conference opponent and NCAA Division
|-AA playoff team Northeastern on Sept. 6.

“It's a good recruiting class," said Ford, who has 194 career victories as a college head coach
and was the 2002 NEC coach of the year. "On defense we addressed our needs at both inside and
outside linebacker. We found running backs with size and speed, picked up a quarterback who can run
and throw, and are excited about the three incoming wide receivers."

The 2003 class features 20 high school standouts and one prep school athlete, The group is
comprised of 17 players from the state of New York, plus three from New Jersey and one from Massa-
© chusetts. The breakdown by position includes three wide receivers, four running backs, one quarterback,

two tight ends, one offensive lineman, one placekicker, five linebackers, two defensive linemen and two
defensive backs.

The Great Danes landed seven all-state players, including Chenango Forks' Kelsey Jenks, a
two-time first-team Class B selection by the New York State Sportswriters Association. Jenks, a 6-foot-
1, 220-pound athlete who will play linebacker in college, was named the Binghamton Press & Sun-
Bulletin Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,502 yards, played nose guard on defense and will particpate
in the Governor's Bowl on July 12. Defensive end Andrew Berg (6-2, 240) and outside linebacker
Trevor DuPont (6-1, 210) each earned first-team all-state honors in Class AA and Class A, respectively.

County's top lineman. DuPont (Victor Central) was a member of the All-Greater Rochester first team.

Balog (Brockport), a pair of second-team all-state performers. Marzano ran for 1,375 yards and 14
touchdowns for the Class C program. Balog, who competed in Class AA, earned All-Greater Rocheter
and All-Monroe County recognition. Zach Tarnowski (Chenango Forks), a third-team Class B tight end,

squad as a second-team selection. He also was a member of the The Sports Network and Football Gazette All-America
teams. Jones, who established nine single-season school records and broke two conference marks, was voted the North-
east Conference Offensive Player of the Year. A first-team AIl-NEC choice, Jones was tabbed as as the Football Gazette |-

ALBANY ENDS SEASON WITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF NEW YORK TECH

Albany, N.Y. — Freshman right fielder Brad Daniels drew a one-out walk with the bases loaded
in the bottom of the seventh to push across the winning run, as Albany swept a non-conference
doubleheader from New York Tech on Saturday afternoon at Heritage Park. The Great Danes
took the first, 4-2, and won the nightcap, 8-7, to split the four-game series.

Albany (20-32) began the seventh with a single by Tony Vallone (Greenwich Central),
who had four hits and three RBI in the twinbill. After a wild pitch, Dan Britton relieved Jamie
Roggenkamp. Britton walked Derek DeGrazio and Kirt Zimniewicz to load the bases before
retiring Fred Estes, who had a two-run double in the third, with a strikeout. Daniels worked out a
walk when Britton's 3-2 pitch was high and inside to force home Vallone to end the Albany
baseball season with a victory.

New York Tech (15-32) tied the game at six with a four-run fourth. Garret McDevitt
provided the big blow when he hit a Kyle Thomas offering over the fence in left field to drive in
three and even the score. After DeGrazio helped Albany retake the lead with an RBI-double in
the fourth, the Bears matched that run in the top of fifth when Sean Braithwaite raced home on
a passed ball.

Steve Emmerthal picked up his fifth win of the year, pitching the final two innings and
worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh to preserve the tie. Brendan Chiavaro
had three hits and Joe Lamb scored twice for the Great Danes, while Tim Smith and Jelani
Arnold had two hits apiece for the Bears.

In the first game, Vallone doubled to right-center field to drive in two and then scored on
an error by the catcher to give the Great Danes an early 3-0 lead. Jeff Mazzola relieved starter
Will Haskell, who pitched in his final game, in the second and finished the contest, allowing one
run on three hits to win his third game of the season.

NEW YORK TECH SWEEPS A DOUBLEHEADER FROM ALBANY

Albany, N.Y. — Junior right fielder Anthony St. George went 3-for-4 with a run scored in game
two as New York Tech swept a non-conference doubleheader from Albany on Friday afternoon
at Varsity Field. The Bears took the first, 3-0, and came-from-behind to win the nightcap, 8-4.

Albany (18-31) jumped out to an early lead in game two by scoring three in the bottom of
the first. After Brad Daniels doubled and Joe Lamb was hit by pitch, Brendan Chiavaro’s
sacrifice bunt was thrown away by New York Tech starter Chris Perez, which allowed Daniels
to score. Lamb would touch home on Dan Schoonmaker’s groundball to third, which was
mishandled by Brian MacMurray. MacMurray then threw wide of third attempting to get
Chiavaro, who ran home to tally the third run of the inning.

New York Tech (14-30) took the lead with a four-run fifth. Tim Smith singled with the
bases loaded to drive in one and Sean Braithwaite’s sacrifice fly tied the game at 3. Anthony
Mangione broke the deadlock with a two-run single to give the Bears a 5-3 advantage. New
York Tech added two in the sixth and one in the seventh to increase their lead.

Perez went the distance, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out four
to pick up his third victory. Braithwaite had two RBI and Jelani Arnold scored twice for the
Bears.

In the opener, Andrew Karkoulas tossed a two-hitter and the Bears scratched across a
run in the fifth and two in the sixth to end their five-game losing streak. Everyone for New York
Tech but Karkoulas had one hit off Albany starter Mike Mueller, who made his final appearance
at Varsity Field.

The Great Danes wrap up the 2003 season with a twinbill against New York Tech
tomorrow at Heritage Park. The first game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.

Bristol, Conn. -- Sophomore shortstop Joe Lamb went 2-for-2 with three runs scored in game
two, as Albany split an America East Conference doubleheader with Hartford on Sunday
afternoon at Muzzy Field. The Great Danes lost the first, 9-4, but took the nightcap, 9-2, to
prevent being swept in the series by the Hawks.

Lamb singled to left field and then stole second. After a Brendan Chiavaro, who had two hits,
three runs and four RBI in the doubleheader, walk and a double steal, Tony Vallone
(Greenwich Central), who had four hits in the twinbill, singled to right field to drive in a pair. The
Great Danes added two in the third, as Lamb and Chiavaro scored when Hartford pitcher Joe

© Connolly threw Dan Schoonmaker's sacrifice bunt attempt down the right field line to make
the score 4-0.

Hartford (9-30-1, AE 7-11) cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third on RBI-singles
by Brian Eck and Josh Topp. The Great Danes increased their lead to 8-2 with a four-run
sixth. Chiavaro added the big blow with a two-run single to right center, which plated Brad
Daniels and Lamb, who homered in the first game. Freshman Kyle Thomas went the distance,

NCAA Tournament - First Round

Princeton 16, Albany 10

Princeton, N.J. - Sophomore attack Jason Donegar had five goals,
including four in the decisive third quarter, in leading Princeton to a 16-10
victory over Albany in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on
Saturday afternoon before 2,436 fans at Class of '52 Stadium.

Princeton (11-3) broke a 5-5 halftime tie with five consecutive goals
in the third period. Senior midfielder Will MacColl, who had a season-high
four goals and added one assist, put his team on top for good when he
drove around Albany's Matthew Fiasconaro and scored from the right
side with 10:36 left in the quarter.

The Tigers, who have won six national titles and reached the
championship final twice since 1992, then scored three more times over
the next two minutes. Josh White, who had two goals and two assists,
connected from eight yards out on an extra-man opportunity. Donegar then
found an open net 16 seconds later after the Great Danes turned the ball
over deep in their territory.

Donegar, who has 40 goals on the season, later scored from the top
of the crease, before MacColl finished off a drive from the left side for a 10-
S lead with 4:14 remaining in the period. Donegar added two more goals in
the final three minutes of the stanza to provide his club with a comfortable
12-6 cushion heading into the final quarter.

“We put a scare in them, but they showed why they have been to the
final the last three years in that third quarter," said Albany coach Scott
Marr, whose program was making its first-ever NCAA appearance. "The
turning point was that stretch of four goals in two minutes; we played way
too much defense and it certainly helped that they won so many face-offs."

Albany (10-6) gave the fourth-seed Tigers all they could handle in
the first half. Princeton took a 4-3 lead on back-to-back goals by Sean
Hartofilis and Donegar. But the Great Danes came back when freshmen
Chris Martocchia, who had three goals and two assists, and Matthew
Green scored consecutively to regain the lead. White drew the Tigers even
with four seconds to play in the half, as he drove from the right and placed
a high shot over Albany goalkeeper Kevin Rae. |

"| was proud of the way we played," said America East player of the
year Luke Daquino, a sophomore who had two goals and three assists.
“Princeton took it to us in the third quarter, but our seniors played their
hearts out and went out strong in that final period."

Albany's Chris Driscoll added a pair of goals, including a spin move
that gave the Great Danes a 2-1 lead early in the second stanza. Rae
finished with 11 saves, the eleventh time he has reached double figures
this season. All-American midfielder Brad Dumont had two goals and one
assist for the Tigers, who will play the winner of Sunday's Syracuse-
Dartmouth first-round game in the quarterfinals next weekend.

Hartford Sweeps Albany in America East Doubleheader

Bristol, CT -- The University of Hartford baseball team picked up its first
doubleheader sweep of the season by downing Albany 4-2 and 7-4 at
Muzzy Field on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Great Danes to 17-29 overall and 9-14 in
America East play while the Hawks improve to 8-29-1 and 6-10 in the
conference.

In game one, Hartford right-hander Jeff Swedberg recorded his first
victory of the season to improve his record to 1-7. Swedberg held Albany
to two runs on six hits while striking out six in a complete game
performance. Albany's Steve Emmerthal (4-6) struck-out five batters in
the loss.

The Great Danes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a
pair of two out hits by Jason Martin and Dan Schoonmaker. Martin
drove a double down the left field line scoring Brendan Chiavaro and
schoonmaker, who was 4-for-6 on the day, followed with an RBI single.
The lead would be short lived, however, as Hartford's Ryan Cuscovitch
blasted a three-run homer in the third to give the Hawks a 3-2 advantage.
Ron Acabbo then gave the Hawks an insurance run in the fourth with a
solo homerun to right center field that put Hartford up 4-2.

In game two, the Great Danes fell behind early as Hartford scored
three runs in the first and added two more in the second. The Hawks were
powered by the hitting of Matt Denorfia, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI in
game two and Acabbo, who finished the day 3-for-6 with two homeruns
and two RBI.

Albany and Hartford will meet again tomorrow for another
doubleheader at Muzzy Field. The start time of the first game has been

moved up to 11 a.m.

ALBANY ADVANCES TO AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH 3-0
WIN OVER BU

Stony Brook, N.Y. — Junior left fielder Jen Nolette went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a
run scored, as Albany defeated Boston U., 3-0, in the semifinals of the America
East Conference postseason softball tournament at University Field.

The Great Danes (34-8) now advance to the championship game on
Saturday, May 10 to face Boston U., who defeated Maine, 19-5, in the losers
bracket on Friday afternoon. The winner receives an automatic berth to the
NCAA Tournament.

Albany starter Andee Lindgren and Boston U.’s Tiffany Finateri, who
had defeated the Great Danes twice last week, were locked in a pitcher's duel for
the first six innings. The Great Danes changed all that with three unearned runs
in the top of the seventh. After Maegan Larsen led off the inning with a bloop hit,
she came around to score when Stacy Kowal’s groundball to short was thrown
down the right field line to give Albany a 1-0 lead. Brittany Burnham, who came
on to run for Kowal, touched home on Nolette’s line drive to second, which hit the
ground right before Kristin Knesek was able to catch it. Finateri’s throwing error
on Katrina Dunning’s grounder allowed runners on second and third with one
out, before Lindgren, who had two hits, singled through the left side to plate
Nolette and increase the lead to 3-0.

“It was a well-played and exciting and we able to take advantage of
Boston's mistakes,’ stated head coach Chris Cannata, who broke the school
record for wins in a season. “Tomorrow will be another battle and we need to
come ready to play, because we know Boston will.”

Lindgren, who matched the school record for wins in a season with 20,
tossed her second straight shut out and ninth of season by going the distance,
allowing three hits and striking out four.

Boston U. (30-21), the regular season champions, was unable to advance
pass second base. Its best opportunity came in the bottom of the sixth when Liz
Weiboldt threw out Julie Henneke, who was trying to go from first to third on Liz

Alley’s single.

America East Conference Softball Championships

First Round — Albany 1, Maine 0

Stony Brook, N.Y. — Junior pitcher Andee Lindgren tossed her eighth shutout of the
season in leading Albany to a 1-0 victory over Maine in the first round of the America
East Conference postseason tournament on Thursday afternoon at Stony Brook’s
University Field.

Albany (33-8) now faces the regular-season champion Boston University on
Friday, May 9 at 11:00 a.m., with the victor advancing to Saturday’s championship game.
Boston U. blanked Stony Brook, 2-0, in the other first-round contest of this three-day,
double-elimination tournament. The champion receives a NCAA automatic berth.

The Great Danes, who tied the school record for most wins in a season, jumped
on top in the second when Liz Wieboldt tripled down the right field line. As Wieboldt slid
into third, the throw by Maine second baseman Sara Asadoorian sailed high allowing the
Albany outfielder to score the game’s only run. Shortstop Maegan Larsen, the America
East rookie of the year, had two of the Great Danes’ five hits.

“It feels good to win the first game and advance to the all-important winners’
bracket,” stated Albany coach Chris Cannata, who also guided the Albany program to 33
wins in 1999. “Andee (Lindgren) was once again terrific and she keeps on getting better
and better.”

Maine (25-21) managed three hits off Lindgren, who went the distance and struck
out eight to improve to 19-4 on the season. The Black Bears failed to advance a runner
to second, as Albany catcher Stacy Kowal threw out both base runners who attempted
to steal. Losing pitcher Jenna Merchant, whose record fell to 14-9 on the mound, also
turned in a solid performance with four strikeouts.

America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship

Albany 7, Hartford 5

West Hartford, Conn. -- Freshman attack Chris Martocchia scored three goals in leading Albany to a 7-5 victory
over Hartford in the America East Conference championship on Saturday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field. The
Great Danes, who have won six straight, earned the program's first-ever NCAA tournament berth by capturing
the conference title.

Hartford (9-8), the tournament's top seed, took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. Freshman midfielder Garett
Kikot scored in front on a faked-pass play, before Travis Eckler fired a shot inside the left post with 4:02 left in
the period.

Albany (10-5) rallied to take a 3-2 halftime lead. Brendan Russell got his team on the scoreboard when he
converted a drive from the right side with 48 seconds left in the opening period. In the second quarter, freshman
Matthew Green tied the contest off a pass from behind from Bobby Gabriel. Martocchia then put his team
ahead with 1:31 to play before the break on a spin move to his right.

The Great Danes, who lost to Hartford, 10-5, during the regular season, used a three-goal third quarter to take
command. Martocchia finished off a fastbreak from the left side early in the period on a play that originiated
off a failed clear. Michael Solazzo then scored 48 seconds later with his 31st goal of the season for a 5-2 lead,
after Luke Daquino fired a pass to him on the top of the crease.

Hartford closed within 6-4 in the fourth quarter as Andrew Rohmer found the net from the right side of the
crease off a short pass from Chris Sauro. However, Martocchia regained his team's three-goal margin by

oring in transition following a successful clear by long-stick midfielder Ryan Olmstead with 7:34 remaining.
Albany goalkeeper Kevin Rae, the championship's most outstanding performer, and the Great Danes' defense
kept the lead safe in the stretch.

“We were outstanding on defense, especially the play of Luke Smith and Emil Bove," said Albany coach
Scott Marr, whose team lost in last year's championship final. "We worked a whole year to prove that we could
win this (championship) and those two seniors really showed that this team wanted to get the job done."

Eckler led the Hawks with two goals, including his 42nd of the season, while goalkeeper Rorke Greene made
nine saves. Albany's Russell scored twice, and Green added one goal and one assist.

“This has been a long dream for us," said Rae, who made nine saves after stopping 16 shots in his team's
semifinal win over defending champion Stony Brook. "But now it's happening and it is real. Our team doesn't
take too well to losing and what happened in last year's championship was an experience that helped us today."

TRINA PATTERSON NAMED ASSISTANT COACH ON WOMEN'S PAN AMERICAN TEAM
Colorado Springs, Colo. -- The 2003 USA Basketball Women’s Pan American Games Team
coaching staff was completed with the addition of a pair of collegiate head coaches, Indiana
University's Kathi Bennett and University at Albany’s (N.Y.) Trina Patterson. The two will
serve as assistant coaches to previously named USA head coach, University of Virginia’s
Debbie Ryan, USA Basketball announced today.

The selections were made by the USA Basketball Women’s Collegiate Committee,
chaired by University of Texas Senior Associate Athletics Director for Men’s and Women’s
Athletics Chris Plonsky. The Pan American Games, held every four years in the year prior to
the Olympics and organized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), is a multi-sport
competition open to men and women representing countries from North, South and Central
America and the Caribbean. This summer the Pan American Games will be held Aug. 1-17,
with the women’s basketball competition slated for Aug. 2-9, in Santo Domingo, Dominican
Republic. The field of participants for the women’s basketball competition, which will include
teams from six nations, is not yet known.

The 2003 USA Basketball Women’s National Team Trials, which will be used to select
the 12-member USA Women’s Pan American Games Team, will be held May 22-25 at the U.S.
Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Training for the USA Pan Am squad is
expected to begin approximately July 15 at a site to be announced.

“It will be an honor and a privilege to work with Kathi Bennett and Trina Patterson on the
Pan Am staff,” said Ryan. “Kathi is a rising star in our profession and | have admired her teams
for their hustle and determination. Trina is a special member of this staff because she has
international experience that will be valuable during our competition in the Dominican Republic.
Both Trina and Kathi will contribute in all aspects of the game as we compete for a gold medal.”

The University at Albany’s Patterson is a familiar face to USA Basketball after serving on
the coaching staff as an assistant for the 1998 USA R. William Jones Cup Team that competed
in Taipei, Taiwan, and Beijing, China. The gold-medal-winning squad's roster included current
WNBA players Edwina Brown, Erin Buescher, 2002 World Championship gold medalist Tamika
Catchings, Summer Erb, Becky Hammon, Lynn Pride, Semeka Randall and Tamika Whitmore.

“Having prior experience with USA Basketball allows me to say that this opportunity is
both very grand and unique,” said Patterson, whose husband, Carl, is an active Master
Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps after 19 years of service. “Working with both outstanding
players and coaches along with representing our country during these sensitive
times will make this experience extra special.”

She joins Ryan on the USA Pan Am staff after playing for her at the University of Virginia.
Patterson earned four varsity letters (1983-84 to 1986-87) and was a member of four
consecutive NCAA Tournament teams. The Cavaliers captured three Atlantic Coast Conference

regular season titles and won 20 or more games in each season of her tenure. In her senior
season as team captain, Virginia posted a 26-5 record and reached the NCAA's regional
semifinals. The Cavaliers ended the season ranked 10th by USA Today and 11th in the
Associated Press polls.

“It is a privilege to work with one of the best coaches in our nation. Debbie Ryan is a
phenomenal motivator and teacher and | look forward to assisting and learning from her.”

On May 6, 2002, a new era in the University at Albany Women's basketball program
began when Albany announced the hiring of Patterson as women's head basketball coach.
Patterson, who brought nine years of Division | head coaching experience to the position, was
named as the ninth coach in the Albany basketball program's history.

In her first year at the helm of the Great Danes, Patterson led the team to the school's
second-best mark (9-18) since joining Division | in 1999. The nine victories were a five-win
improvement from the previous year and the team had a winning record (7-6) at home for the
first time since the 1999-2000 season. In addition, the team captured its first two America East
Conference wins and for the first time Albany had players named to the All-America East teams.
Prior to arriving at Albany, Patterson served as the head basketball coach at the College of
William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., for eight seasons (1991-92 through 1998-99). She took
over a program that fought to establish an identity in the Colonial Athletic Association, and had
not experience a winning season at the Division | level. By her third year, Patterson guided the
team to a 20-8 record and a third-place finish in the conference standings. She was voted as the
1993-94 CAA Coach of the Year, and the squad established single season records in scoring
average and assists. During the previous campaign, the Tribe advanced to the championship
game of the 1992 CAA Tournament. Patterson, who mentored five all-conference players,
remains the school's all-time winningest coach.

In 1999-2000, Patterson spent one year as the head coach at the University of Maryland-
Eastern Shore, a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
