Low ids on the third residence unit was $9.6 million, about $2,7
million mor than the first two. Low bidder was the Planet Construction
Company of New York Clty. Next higher was the Ioster - Iepkin Company
which is now finishing the Colonial Quad. After alternates are considered and the
low bidder fully Investigated the award will be made. Construction should
begin in the spring with the Jow rise portions planned for occupancy in
September 1967 pod the tower in Mebruavy 1968, 1, 315 students will be
housed in the completed unit.
One bid was received for the versitile particle accelerator to be
installed next to the physics building at a cost of $356, 414. The Carillon
tower is nciring completion with all outside structural work done,
Paining will be completed when all plumbing is finished. The tower
will be white and the grill work gold, The Alumni Association is
planning a dedication ceremony for the Carillon in June,
Students living in the Colonial Quadrangle will be eating in their
own dining hall shortly after Mareh 1, Occupancy begins Webruary 22
with finishing and equipment installation lasting about 4 week.

in the Junior Colleges, This panel is a sub-committee of the Commission on
Undergraduate Education in the Biologicai Sciences, which has ite main office

The responsibilities of Dr. Barry's panel will be to initiate conferences
and programs directed toward improving understanding of: the biology curriculum
in the two-year college; the preparation of inatructional personnel and the quality
of instruct jon in the two-year coliege; the need for scientific facilities in the
two-
sar college; and the relationship of the two-year college, the four-year
eollege. and the graduate university. Members of the panel will represent
all regions of the United States
Dr, Barry received a B.S, from Iowa State Teacher's College and a M.S
and Ph.D. from the State University of Iowa, He hag had extensive teaching
experience tn the biological sciences and he has been a member of the Visiting
Scientist program of the American Institute of Biological Sciences from 1959.
In 1958-8, Dr.. Barry received a Nattonal Science Foundation Faculty Fellowship
from Harvard University to puraue research in the history of science in America
in his poattion ac asetetant to the president for regional scientific and industrial
development, Dr, Barry represents State University of New York at Albany in
research and educational programs involving other institutions and industrial
