Georgia Elizabeth Koch attended the New York State College for Teachers after graduating from Schenectady High School and pursued a degree in Home Economics.
While a student, she was active in campus organizations including the Consumer’s League, Newman Club, Music Club, Spanish Club, and the Girls’ Athletic Association.
She was elected to Omicron Nu, the national honor society for Home Economics, and was also a member of the Eta Phi literary society.
Koch graduated in 1922 and subsequently worked as a Home Economics teacher for approximately five years.
She married Verne V. Hemstreet in 1927 after meeting him in Schenectady,
